Weapon Damage

Unread post by Aaryq »

Howdy, folks. Was anyone else disgusted with weapon Damage? I mean how in the hey can a 30-06 do less than a 5.56? Has anyone else done updated damage tables?

I created a chart organized by caliber and I think it will make combat a little more realistic.

Well, in a sense we already have updated or better damage lists, in the Compendium of Modern Weapons.

Go with those stats instead. If you dont have it, GET IT!

NO NO NO NO! Sorry for my outburst. The Compendium of Modern weapons is Crap for damage. How can a 9mm out of 1 pistol compared to another with a similar barrel length do 2 different damages. How can a gun that I could use to drop an elk in 1 shot do less damage than a gun that is illegal in some states to kill a deer?

Well, in terms of bullet lethality - shot placement is more important than what you shoot - it's just some bullets have a larger margin of error.

That being said, a few revisions wouldn't be a bad thing.

Here's some general damage rules:

Low powered pistol round (.22, .32) 2D10
Pistol Round (7.62 Tokarev, 9mm, .45 ACP) 3D10
High Powered Pistol Round (.357 Mag) 3D10+5
Submachinegun/Carbine Round (.30 Carbine, 7.62 Tokarev, 9mm, .45 ACP from a long barrel) 3D10+5
Assault Rifle Round (5.56 NATO, 7.62 Soviet, 7.92 Kurtz) 4D10+5
Full Power Rifle Round (7.62 NATO, 7.62x54R, .30-06, 7.92 Mauser) 5D10+5
12 ga Buckshot - close range 5D10+10 - long range 3D10+5
12 ga Slug - 5D10+15 all ranges
Heavy Machinegun Round (.50 BMG, 12.7 Soviet, 14.5 Soviet) 6D10+25

I created a table.

It has

PISTOLS
Damage is for pistols. Add +5 damage and +1 P.V. for Sub-Machine Guns.
AMERICAN
.22LR 2D10 P.V.: 2
.38 Special 2D10+5 P.V.: 3
.357 Magnum 3D10+10 P.V.: 4
9mm Luger 3D10 P.V.: 4
.45 ACP 3D10+5 P.V.: 3
COMMUNIST
9mm Markov 3D10 P.V.: 3
7.62x25 2D10+5 P.V.: 4

SHOTGUNS
Damage is for Buckshot. Add +5 damage and +1 P.V. for slugs and subtract 1D10 and -2 P.V. for birdshot.
10 Gauge 5D10+5 P.V.: 4
12 Gauge 4D10+5 P.V.: 4
20 Gauge 4D10 P.V.: 3
.410 Bore 3D10+5 P.V.: 3

RIFLES
AMERICAN
30-06 Springfield 4D10+10 P.V.: 6
7.62 NATO 4D10+5 P.V.: 5
5.56 NATO 4D10 P.V.: 5
.30 Carbine 3D10 P.V.: 4
COMMUNIST
7.62x54R 4D10+10 P.V.: 6
7.62x39 4D10+5 P.V.: 5

Take a look at 7.62NATO (.308 Win) and 7.62X39. Compare that to 30-06 and 7.62X54R. The rounds are so much larger and they can do a lot more damage. If this post is breaking Palladium rules, delete it.

true, for the most part. then again not all rounds have the same effect as others. In reading Martin Fackler's work on what happens when one is shot. He uses Human thigh tissue substitute to determine what really happens when one is shot. it's never pretty. While shot placement is important one must also factor in both the size and design of the bullet being used. If I shoot someone in the chest with a 5.56X45mm Mk262 long range round I am going to do alot of damage. Should I use a 7.62X51mm M118LR I will do even more damage if the target and tragectory are identical. Then again most of this is a rather mute point given that 80% of combat takes place under 100m. At that sorts of range the 5.56X45mm NATO round fragments and creates a larger hole in things than it should.

Firearms Tactical Wound Ballistic's page:

It gives the wound tracts of several common calibers.

Then again this level of Detail is overkill for most games. I write for fun and I try to write as realistic as possible. This usually means that gunfights are short and rather messy. it also means that I end up spending time on the range, or roleplaying out scenes. One of the things that Recon Miniature rules are great for.

I used ratios to redo weapons damage.
