Price to hire a Sunaj?

Unread post by darthauthor »

How much would it cost for a Sunaj to do a "job"?

I'd imagine, if I were a Sunaj, that it would depend on the job.
There would be a flat fee for the least I would work for but it would go up depending on the time it took (days), risks of failure, chances of success, and effort required.

1. How much for emperor Prozak?

2. His son?

3. A CS general?

4. Lord Duncan from the Federaton of Magic?

5. An Atlantean not of the Aerihman Clan.

6. What about just a CS special forces squad during the CS vs Tolkeen war?

7. A team of 4 Mystic Knights from the Federation of Magic?

So for the first time in many years I went back and perused World Book 2 page 63 and 64 and a thought occurred to me that had not the first time I read this section:
They are either slaves or blindly loyal servants depending on how you view them. the Sunaj have a special relationship with the splugorth and there's no betrayal or free-lancing. The two groups have some sort of special arrangement with each other and it doesn't look like they get paid in the traditional sense.
NOW, if for some odd reason you encounter one who has left behind his old ways and struck out on his own (good world-building deviation there) he might be a gun-for-hire but probably not. If he left behind professional murdering he may wish to do something else.
But if has no morals and needs the money, fine. He knows his skills are valuable and he also believes himself to be the best of the best. So at minimum, even for petty, minor jobs he's probably going to demand around 100,000 credits as well as basic services like hospitalization and armor repair. Probably ammo & grenades too. By basic I mean the local bully or demon-dog making life tough for farmers or travelers.
For something like major like an assassination he'd probably want anywhere from 5 to 50 million credits. Knowing that such payment could buy him a nice vehicle or a safe house with resources. Or perhaps a special magic or Phase World object.
He might do protection but he'd probably want something ridiculous like 20 thousand to 50 thousand credits a day, with bonuses if he actually kills an attacker, again along the lines of 100,000 each.

And again, this is all assuming you have that one in a million Sunaj renegade, someone who is crazy or desperate enough to betray the splugorth and flee Atlantis. The players don't know it but such a person is extremely dangerous. Could be the start of a new adventure. Help the rogue Sunaj? Or turn him over to slave-catchers?
So yeah, even if somebody hires him, he won't be around long, knowing his actions might be recognized and he may have to flee. He would probably request full payment in advance for most jobs. On things like security he may run off without warning. Probably would not bother explaining himself to his current employer.
And as with most other assassins, you'd have to decide what their own personal limits are. Would he kill a child? A little old lady? Are certain species or classes off limits? Would he kidnap? Extort? Bribe? Blackmail? Use chemical weapons? Biological weapons? Wipe out a whole city?
Again, all good role-playing foundations.

Oh, and with that advance payment he could also buy resources he needs or pay for some help.
Help is likely to be eliminated upon completion of job.
