Nega-Psychics and Psi-Nullifiers on Space Stations

Forgive me if this topic is brought up in a book somewhere, but as I was considering space stations in the Three Galaxies, and in particular looking at Center, the question came up of Nega-Psychics and Psi-Nullifiers.

While as far as I'm aware the Nega-Psychic needs to be actively trying to negate effects, the Psi-Nullifier just passively disrupts magic/psionics near him.

So are these beings even allowed on space stations? Would they be allowed on most but in UWW space heavily persecuted for the fact they could accidentally disrupt the TW air-purifiers just by existing?

Am I missing something obvious?

The passive nature of the Psi-Nullifier ability is "to disrupt or interfere with magic and psionics that are directed against him or in close proximity" and "whenever psionic or magic force are directed against him or within 10ft (3m) of him." Using the ability in active manner has a range of 100ft/30m+10ft/3m per level. All per WB12 pg66-8.

This might not be an issue though from three angles:
1. the station/ships PPE reserve essentially overwhelms the negative PPE they emit (it be like them trying to disrupt a Ley Line powered device casting its spell chain in a TW device)
2. the negative PPE only works when PPE is spent, if the spell(s) effect(s) are already in place they could not be disrupted post casting.
3. the TW devices might not be considered "directed against" them depending on their function.

Even if it the above could be dis-proven, you'd still need to get a Psi-Nullifier w/n 10ft/3m of the TW device in question, for active efforts they might require "off limits" areas (which likely exist anyway) on the station/ships.

Unless things on the space station are psionically controlled, Both RCCs are no danger to the station. If the station works on magic power, only the psi-nullifier would be a danger to the station. The nega psychic st least has a say in whether he wants to nullify magic near his person.

No the Psi-Nullifier would not be a danger to the station in general. They can only disrupt spells as they are being cast and not already in effect. It also requires them to be within 20ft of the casting source (for passive action), which a GM can utilize to avoid the issue by just treating the TW device as far enough away (unless we're talking a small space station like Skylab/Salyut or the ISS, and not the massive stations of sci-fi like DS9/Babylon5/K-7/Deathstar). And if that wasn't enough the TW Device can likely draw upon a PPE source that likely can allow it to "win" any PPE expenditure battle.

A Psi-Dampener from Nightbane is more likely to prove a concern than the above classes. A Nega Psychic can choose to not negate an effect, a Psi-Nullifier has a limited range and in a power-laden enough environment quickly run out of ISP, while the Psi-Dampener has a passively activated field with scaling range and no ISP cost. Were the class around in a space setting it seems likely that the ability suppression drug they have access to would be as well.

Nega-Psychics pose a risk but have some control. Regulations likely exist for permitted use.
Psi-Nullifiers are a constant disruption. UWW's air filtration might be sensitive, leading to bans. Other areas might have stricter regulations.
Further Exploration:

Check the Three Galaxies lore for specific restrictions or ask on a fan forum dedicated to the universe.

No need to apologize, this is a great question about Three Galaxies lore! Here's how I see it:

Center Regulations: Center likely has regulations for Nega-Psychics and Psi-Nullifiers. Nega-Psychics might require permits or dampeners to avoid intentional disruption.

Psi-Nullifiers: Their passive disruption is a trickier issue.

Limited Range: The lore might specify a limited range for Psi-Nullifiers, allowing them on stations if they stay within designated areas.
UWW Space: UWW might be stricter due to TW air purifier reliance. They could:

Ban Nega-Psychics: For the risk of intentional disruption.
Regulate Psi-Nullifiers: Require certification or limit their activity near purifiers.
Double-Checking the Lore: It's worth checking resources like the Three Galaxies wiki or official guides for specific regulations.

Hope this helps!

No worries, good question! There's no definitive answer in any one book, but here's the common understanding:

Nega-Psychics: They should be fine. They only disrupt when actively using their powers, so as long as they're chill, no worries.

Psi-Nullifiers: Trickier. They do have a passive aura, so yeah, UWW space might be cautious. TW air purifiers shouldn't be a big deal though – those are usually tech-based, not psionic.

Here's what you could consider:

Licensing: Maybe UWW requires Psi-Nullifiers to be licensed and wear dampening tech to minimize disruption.

Designated areas: Some stations might have restricted areas for them.

Ultimately, it's up to you as the GM! You could have stations with varying policies based on their paranoia level.
