Ohtaei Raukieo

Unread post by GoliathReturns »

So, I've recently been running a simple PbP, and what was supposed to be a simple "oh, hey, cool" discovery turned into.. a lot more. So, me being me, I built upon it.

Deep below the Baalgor desert, rests a giant tomb, a resting place for the greatest warriors of the elven nation, during the Great War. Hundreds of burial vaults line the walls, each containing the interred remains of a great warrior.

At one end of this chamber, 6 vaults line one wall, separated from the others. These ones are a bit nicer, and definitely more ornate. A large book rests on a plinth in front of these vaults. The Title reads simple "Ohtaei Raukieo". For those reading ancient elven, literally "Warriors of Demons", or perhaps "Demon Warriors".

The book details the exploits of a select team of elves, with the blackest of black hearts, that went forth, and would routinely commit atrocities against the dwarven enemy. These were the Ohtaei Raukieo, the Demon Warriors, or simply Rauko, Demons. It was they who snuck into the Monastary of the Seven Spires, and slaughtered the nuns and monks, while not touching the ill and infirm that could not leave their beds, leaving them to waste away and die. The Battle of Deep Caverns, where they set hundreds of shadow beasts loose on miners, and killed any who tried to retreat to the stronghold; and the Death at Shatterpoint Mountain, where they snuck into a dwarven city, and killed every dwarf below the age of 100, including the children. These were not even their worst actions.

But these warriors were not called Demons simply because of the horrors they would commit readily. In order to join the Demons, one would have to fight, one on one, with a greater demon or deevil, and claim a portion of its body. You did not have to kill the demon or deevil, simply win, and with a part of the body. This piece of the supernatural would then be formed into a unique weapon or piece of armor, and the warrior would be renamed.

A very careful reading will find a passage that mentions that many of these supernatural beasts are still alive, and would like their body parts back. These vaults were designed to keep them from finding the weapons and gear, but once opened, they can be tracked.
Below is the Elven name (translation)

Uscano (Warleader)
Inside is an elven sized suit of leather armor, that is a black in color, and looks almost like polished ebony wood, with the flexibility of soft leather.
The armor itself has AR 16, and 150 SDC, and regenerates 1d6 sdc per hour
While wearing the armor, the wielder will regenerate 1d6 SDC/HP per hour, and can see the invisible twice per day, for 60 minutes (as per spell). If the wearer does not already have nightvision, they get 60ft range.
*GM Note- Made from the hide of a Gallu Demon Bull. And it's still alive. And wants its skin back. There are no individual curses, other than the fact that a Gallu is now actively hunting the character.

Naster (thing that stings/scorpion)*
-the bones in this vault are all monstrously large, and many are deformed- twisted, mismatching, etc. Inside is a giant sized whip, that looks to have a 15 inch long scorpion stinger on the tip. (does 1d8 damage, plus possible poison, twice per day, on command. The poison only caused 1d4 damage, but leaves the victim unable to do much besides writhe and scream in pain. They must make roll a d20 under their PE (nat 20 always fails) just to be able to crawl or move any. They will also be subject to a curse- arthropod attraction. Specifically scorpions. Unfortunately, the curse doesn't make those scorpions FRIENDLY.. it just brings them around.
--GM Note: Naster didn't care, because he was a Gigantes that was immune to them, with a hide so thick and tough that he didnt even notice when he was stung. The whips tip comes from a demon locust that is deceased.

Ráma (Talon/wing/feather)
The fragile crumbled and broken remains of an elf, with a pair of leather gauntlets, with claws in the fingertips and some tufts of feathers on the backs
Strength becomes supernatural. Damage is 1d6+PS bonus, cannot be disarmed. +5% on climb walls. However, all manual dexterity type skills (writing, pick locks, etc) become -10%, and the character is unable to grasp normal weapons.
--GM Note: The claws and feathers come from a Night Owl, who wants its claws back. It's not too concerned with the feathers, but it's upset about the claws.

Sámahen (Mind's eye)
A pair of goggles rests among the bones in this crypt... but the lenses look like they are real eyes, although somewhat ethereal and ghostly.
At all times, can see the invisible, nightvision 100 ft, can read (but not write) all languages, 98%
Curse suffers curses of rags and poverty.
--GM Note: The eyes came from a Wraith, that is still alive.

Angova (of the serpent)
A beautiful, golden cloak, ripping with small scales. It increases the PB of whoever wears it by 6 points, they are immune to horror factor, and once per day, the wielder can turn into mist for 1 hour.
The flip side is while they become more beautiful, they suffer from the curses of Dislike and hallucinatory noises.
--GM Note: came from a Serpent. Deceased

Mempo (Mask)
A demon mask, carved from the skull of a supernatural creature. It gives the wearer a HF of 16, nightvision 200 feet, and fire breath once per round, 4d6, 40 feet. The wearer can turn skin to stone for 4 hours, once per day, adding 200 SDC and 1d6 to punches and kicks.
The wearer has glowing eyes (which are part of the HF), and suffers from the curses of misunderstanding and mumbling
--GM Note: The skull of a gargoyle lord. Deceased.

Besides the curses associated with each item, there is also a curse that prohibits the item from ever being removed from the wielder. A cloak may be pushed back, or goggles lifted to the top of the head, or the whip attached to the belt, but the items cannot be REMOVED, unless there is a successful remove curse done with a 25% penalty. Then, each additional curse must be removed separately. If the initial remove curse is successful, but the item is not removed within 2 melee rounds, then the non-removal curse takes hold once more.

The Book itself is slightly different. It is bound in dwarven flesh, and inked in dwarven blood, with demon bones and sinew used to stitch the pages together. The entire book was enchanted to be indestructible.

Comment: Yesterday is history,
Tomorrow is a mystery,
But today is a gift.
That's why it is called "the present".
Location: Texas... what country are you from?

Not bad. Some pretty cool stuff with an interesting story behind them. Makes me wonder if the Dwarves had a similar assembly of warriors themselves and what they may have left behind.
Sure, lions and tigers are stronger...
But I've never seen a wolf jump through hoops in a circus

8-)

I refuse to comment at this time, seeing as the "goal" of the current adventure path is the location of a dwarven stronghold lost during the Great War, and some of my players do occassionally swing by the forums..

Terrible things, yes, but great nonetheless...
