Silly Question, but I need to Know.....

In the Ultimate Edition Main rule book, it gives me a bonus to parry and disarm with a bow. (Long Composite Bow.) I need to know if this is done by firing arrows in such a way as to parry or disarm or do I just do this wielding the bow as a melee weapon. Another words, can I only do this melee? Like, I imagine that if I could parry and disarm by firing a arrow, I might be able to do the same with projectile and energy guns.... but it only gives me bonus's to do this with a bow for some reason. Like it's special.

Could somebody clarify this for me?

It's the RIFTS Ul. Ed. core book. It has no official rules crossover to the other Games in the PB slate of games. So the name rifts needs to be said with the rest of that book's name.

It is using the bow as a melee weapon to parry a bow.
**This is something that is found in all the PB games.

Disarming with a ranged attack is difficult in the least, and there is a topic (a month or two ago) somewhere that covered this. I'm pretty sure there is someone who remember where it is.

Only for melee attacks.
BUT if I had a player who was really invested in the idea of parrying by shooting people/weapons with arrows, I might house-rule it as a no-damage option that uses an arrow each time, instead of as a bonus to parry attacks in melee with the bow.
There would, of course, be a penalty to parrying incoming arrows and such with your outgoing arrows.
