Just a Poll for the Thread (Mages aren't Trained for Combat)
Decided that having a way of seeing where people stand on the topic

In general most mages start off with a basic level of combat training.
While not experts they have the basics.(Typically most mages start with hand to hand basic and or WPs)

Depends on the mage and the context.

agreed. some mages are. some mages are not. there is no requirement that a mage be combat trained. there is no requirement that a mage not be combat trained.

edit: to rephrase, there is not enough information to answer the question. it's like having a poll where, given we know that X + Y = 2, does X = Y? it might. it might not. we don't have enough information to make an informed guess.

Why no 'Who cares?' option?

isn't there a rule about alsways having a Taco's opition?

to the useful point you might want the options to be as follows:

All
Many
Some
None
Tacos
Who cares!

Some are, some aren't....Your average Mystic or Mystic Herbalist I don't see as having much, if any, in the way of combat skills aside from learning a few defensive spells or packing some protective gear, for example. A Conjurer or Combat Mage, of course, I'd see as having extensive combat training in addition to their spell magic arsenals.
The chances of combat training go up on Rifts Earth, which is a war zone almost everywhere, but go down in other settings where everyday life isn't a constant adventure/fight-for-your-life.

It depends on what your definition of is, is.

The question is too simplistic for the issue at hand. There are too many nuances for a simple binary answer.

The discussion about the topic is in another thread where we are trying to define it and talk about it I post the poll only to see where people stand in the discussion we have been having

There isn't any "poll is badly designed" option so I'll abstain =/

But that discussion seems to be tripping over the definition of key terms.

Even were that defined the question is to simplistic. What are mages in the terms of this question? Do you mean all mages? Some mages? Any mages? You either go all or nothing with the question.

As "combat training" is represented by/based on skills selected (h-t-h combat, W.P.s, physical skills such as boxing, wrestling, etc.), anyone, "mage" or not, with the option of selecting and that actually does select those skills, will have "combat training", at least to a degree.
