As far as creating a domain that has/stores/produces ancient melee weapons, as long as you work the design properly, that should work out fine.
The trick is accessibility, either teleporting in and out to grab things, or going with a cape or cloak tied as the portal with constructs passing the hilts out to you on the proper command.

I've considered similar for keeping a cannon at the ready.

A cloak with a connection an Astral realm that allowed you to pull out weapons and gear as needed.... that would be awesome.
