Unread post by Rogerd »

None. The closest there is is the game term explanations in the basic set books. But a comprehensive lexicon/capsule guide to the Megaverse and common terms? Nope.

What terms puzzle you? We can answer your questions.

Well all I am thinking is like many other games have some kind of glossary or lexicon - we should have one. Heck we could make a one, just brief descriptions of the settings?

So there would be entries for Atlantis, Chaos Earth etc. Perhaps even create names for some of the alternate Earth settings, e.g. Nightbane Earth?

So we are not doing any infringement, just a synopsis in your own words?

I can't remember which book it was in, but remember a section on slang terms commonly used in the three galaxies. Had stuff like "Don't go getting all tentacles and eyeballs on me." referring to splugorth/evil.

Like this?

Glossary Project

After the Bomb---Post-apocalyptic SDC setting, near-future where biotech has run wild, leading to the devastation of the human species, collapse of civilization, and the rise of numerous intelligent animal (and some plant) mutant species building their own new societies on the ruins of the previous(human) one.

Alien Intelligences---Supernatural non-human species, generally very powerful. Some are effectively gods or are mistaken for gods. Most of the eldritch horrors of the Palladium megaverse are Alien Intelligences. See Old Ones, Splugorth, Vampire Intelligences.

Aliens Unlimited----SDC superhero/space opera setting, set in the Heroes Unlimited universe.

Apocalypse Demons(The Four Horsemen)—A quartet of extremely powerful and dangerous evil demonic beings who wander the megaverse, leaving lifeless worlds in their wake.

Astral Plane---A psychic ‘overdimension’ that some psychics and magic users can tap into and visit.

Atlanteans---Ancient human sept, native to Rifts Earth, and adept at manipulating magic, until experiments with higher meta-magic caused the collapse of magic on Earth and the sinking of their homeland. Escaped to other dimensions and became, for the most part, a culture of wandering adventurers. Known for being long-lived and well-versed in magic. See also Lemurians.

Beyond the Supernatural---SDC paranormal adventure setting. Modern world with low ambient magic, but lots of things that go bump in the night. Less a single setting, and more sourcebooks for adventures in the modern era. Sometimes seen as a prelude to Chaos Earth and Rifts Earth, owing to the presence of Victor Lazlo and the Lazlo Society.

Center---A massive multilevel arcology-style complex on Phaseworld that acts as a giant interdimensional transit station.

Chaos Earth---MDC zombie/paranormal apocalypse setting. The prelude to the Rifts Earth setting.

Cosmic Forge---A powerful deity-level force or artifact said to exist somewhere in the Three Galaxies, and said to have the ability to rewrite reality. Hotly sought as the key to galactic, or even multiversal, domination. However, the Cosmic Forge is also said to be intelligent in its own right, and capable fo empowering cosmic guardians of its own, especially CosmoKnights.

Dead Reign---SDC zombie apocalypse setting. The zombie plague has been set in motion as part of a massive necromantic ritual to free a rapacious malign Alien Intelligence.

Demons----Extradimensional faction of predatory supernatural beings who prey on others. Generally prefer ugly brute force tactics and strategies to get what they want. Rivals of the Dyvals. See Minion War.

Dimensional Pyramid---A structure for tapping and controlling the power of ley lines and nexus points.

Dreamstream---Psychic plane associated with dreams. Some psychic or magical beings can travel the Dreamstream and visit the dreams of other beings. Generally associated with the Nightbane setting.

Dyvals----An Infernal faction of extradimensional predatory supernatural beings. Generally known for their cunning and seductive tactics that they use to manipulate others before destroying them, typically to devour their life force, but often for little more than entertainment. Rivals of the Demons.

Elemental Planes---Extradimensional realms dominated by the living personifications of one of the four Elements(Air, Earth, Fire, and Water).

Heroes Unlimited---SDC superhero setting, set more or less in the modern age. Specific setting locations are Century Station. The Earth-side of the Aliens Ulimited setting.

Lands of the Damned---A wasteland region of the Palladium Fantasy World, where Infernal factions, the Demons and the Dyvals, come from outdimension to wage war with their rivals.

Lazlo, Victor---Modern day (Earth) human paranormal activity investigator, introduced in the Beyond the Supernatural setting. He, or an alternate universe version of him, also appears on Rifts Earth, where his pre-Rifts writings and activities led to him being remembered and revered as far-sighted, leading to the establishment of two communities, devoted to the pursuit of knowledge and peaceful coexistence, being named for him; Lazlo and New Lazlo.

Lemurians---Ancient human sept and offshoot of the Atlanteans. The Lermurians have focused on living underwater, assisted by magically-enhanced biotech. Generally technophobic and condescending towards younger human septs.

Ley Line---A stream of magical energy, generally following a weakness or fold in local space/time.

Mechanoids---SDC space opera setting. Also a species of genocidal psychic cyborgs with a bitter hatred of humanoid life. Hinted at having extradimensional capabilities. Have appeared on Rifts Earth, but are implied to have appeared in other universes as well. A Palladium boogieman similar to the Daleks.

Megaverse---The whole of existence, including alternate universes.

Minion War---The neverending conflict, spanning megaversal dimensions, between the Demons and the Dyvals. The Minion War has the unfortunate habit of spilling out of common battlegrounds like the Land of the Damned and into other realms, drawing in others and doing massive collateral damage.

Naruni Enterprises---An intergalactic and possibly extradimensional weapons manufacturer wth few/no scruples about who they sell to or how they obtain payment. Rivals to the Splugorth. They are mentioned most often in relation to Rifts Earth and the Three Galaxies, but may appear elsewhere in the Megaverse.

Nexus---An origin/endpoint or convergence point for ley lines.

Nightbane---SDC post-apocalyptic supernatural setting. A modern day Earth has been secretly invaded by demonic alien beings who have infiltrated the world governments and are letting in supernatural predators to prey on human life. Secret organizations of uncorrupted government employees, secret magic societies, psychics, benign paranomal beings, and supernatural mutants are resisting the invasion.

Ninjas & Superspies---SDC martial arts/espionage setting(s). No single setting, but rather sourcebooks for modern day adventures. See also Beyond the Supernatural.

Old Ones---A group of Alien Intelligences said to dominate the megaverse at the beginning of recorded time. Said to have been eldritch terrors and tyrants until they were betrayed by one of their own and magically sealed away. Also said to be biding their time in their imprisonment until they can escape to run rampant over the megaverse again.

Palladium Fantasy World----A fantasy-setting SDC setting. Has a high ambient magic level, but not as high as Rifts Earth. Has some dimensional rifting, especially in the Lands of the Damned.

Phaseworld---- Promethean homeworld, located in the Three Galaxies and site of the heavily developed commercial dimensional transit complex known as Center.

Prometheans---Humanoid species native to Phaseworld and said to be masters of manipulating subdimensional space/time. They maintain Center as an open port for galactic and extradimensional travel and trade. Mature into Second Stage Prometheans, who are said to be god-tier extradimensional beings rivaling Alien Intelligences in power.

Rift--- Dimensional Rift. A hole or gateway in space/time.

Rifts Earth---Post-apocalyptic MDC sci-fi/magic setting. A high-tech Earth where magic levels rose catastrophically, resulting in unchecked dimensional rift activity and rampant paranormal activity.

Scrapers---SDC superhero/superpowers setting. Superhero world inhabited by various human(oid) species that has been invaded by aliens. Has the option of being set in the Three Galaxies setting, as a backwater system not far from Phaseworld.

Shadowrealms---Extradimensional realm characterized by unnatural darkness. Many of the inhabitants of the Shadowrealms can be easily summoned from, or travel of their own accord from, their native habitat to visit other worlds, where they more often than not display a vicious rapaciousness.

Splicers---Post-apocalyptic MDC robot uprising/biopunk setting. Earth(?) where a global Artificial Intelligence decided to exterminate its creators. The human survivors fight back with biotechnology that may be eroding their own humanity. Little to no magic/psionic activity or rifts.

Splugorth---A species of extradimensional Alien Intelligences known for empire-building and conquest. They are mentioned most often in relation to Rifts Earth and the Three Galaxies, but may appear elsewhere in the Megaverse.

Systems Failure---SDC alien invasion/survivalist apocalypse setting. Modern day Earth invaded by extradimensional alien Bugs that can travel through electrical grids, causing the collapse of modern networked society. Modern day tech, but also some xeno-biotech. No known magic or psionics.

Thoth---Ancient Egyptian God of Wisdom and observer of the megaverse, but unknowinglyis the transformed Old One Xy.

Three Galaxies---Space opera MDC setting. So named because of the cluster of three heavily-inhabited galaxies(the Corkscrew, the Anvil, and the Thundercloud) that are the primary location(s). Site of Phaseworld.

Vampire Intelligences---Alien Intelligences know and feared for their thirst for life energy, with blood being the conductive medium, as well as their ability to spawn minions via an infection process. Bitter rivals of the Splugorth.

Wormwood---MDC fantasy setting. A living planet invaded by demonic beings and opposed by largely human forces armed with medieval weaponry and magic. Plentiful local magic and psionics, some dimensional rift activity.

Xy--The most powerful Alien Intelligence of the evil Old Ones, and a master of magic. Xy fell victim to his/its own magic and was transformed into the benevolent and scholarly Thoth.

I would have a subsection for different settings.

Dark Day Earth: This is where the Lords of Night have taken over the Earth with valiant heroes seeking to defend it. Or something like that.

The only PB game that has two settings is Rifts: rifts earth and the 3G settings. All others are different Games.

For anyone interested I am currently compiling something at the moment, but I am turning it into some form of cogent cosmology / set of deities too.

This statement does not make any sense Drew.
They are all settings within the Megaverse, either an alternate Earth, or dimension.

Alt. Earth: Chaos Earth, Heroes Earth, Dark Day
Dimension: Manhunter, Skraypers, Fantasy

This kind of thing.
