Seen an Rune Shields in a book?

Unread post by Mlp7029 »

I found one set of Rune Armor in the Dragons and Gods book but not Rune Shields. Anyone know of any in the books?

Nope.

But you could make one using the rules for rune weapons.
The existence of Weapon Proficiency Shield indicates that shields are weapons.
For standard alchemist enchantments, I personally allow shields to be enchanted as either weapons OR as armor, but officially it seems that they're weapons.

I think it is kind of funny that the Alchemist section focuses on rune weapons, but there are rune items of all kinds scattered through the books. I'm not sure if it made it into the 2E book, but in the 1E High Seas book, the Ruins of the Titans mini adventure contains a Glass Crystal (first mention of crystal armor, I think, but not a psion item), the Scepter of Apis (grants some psionics and earth warlock spells), and the Mantle of the Gods which gives a huge amount (number and size) of bonuses and abilities. The Crystal can make a sword, so I guess it can be classified as a weapon, but it will only create the weapon when you are in direct combat leaving the armor as the only "on demand" ability.

Rune items can be anything. If you want a rune shield in your game, go ahead and make one. Just be sure to not ruin your game with it.

There are armor Artifacts (NB setting Rune-like items) in one of the NightBane books.
May you be blessed with the ability to change course when you are off the mark.

Yes there is a Rune Shield in Mount Nimiro
The rules are not a bludgeon with which to hammer a character into a game. They are a guide to how a group of friends can get together to weave a collective story that entertains everyone involved. We forget that at our peril.

And IIRC The Shredder has a WP for his armor.
So yeah, there's an argument that could be made that armor sometimes counts as a weapon.

It's Nightbane Book 2: Nightlands.
