Create your custom Alien Intelligence/God - All Alignments

Unread post by V-Origin »

What types of custom Alien Intelligences and/or Gods have you created for your own game? I am kinda sick of Alien Intelligences being the big ugly sploogy blob like Splurgoth.. Surely there are fascinating beautiful alien intelligences as well.. who are not only good/selfish or even bad but they certainly look like the most beautiful human out there...

Beside some random rollings for the sake of personal entertainment, haven't really created any Intelligence wholy my own, but have taken considerable liberties with AI versions of Modeus, Mictla and Mephisto presented in CB1, reinterpreting them as an allied trio of impostors (instead of just Mephisto, as implied in Dragons & Gods) playing some sort of big cosmic scam on Rifts Earth with the Minion War as backdrop and smokescreen.

Beside this, you can find some fun musings and discussion on the subject here.

I've made up a Elvish Goddess of Magic & Fertility. The goddess 'of fertility' having taken up the mantle of 'of magic' when the Elvish god of magic was killed during the war vs the Old Ones. Just one of a few left in that particular pantheon. Most of her pantheon mates are week and tend to be protective of what few followers they have.

I had an idea for a "Rock God" that's pretty much a muse, dimensional traveler, slayer of demons (even though he takes a lot of motifs from them). And pretty much also does Dio's bit in this video for a lot of young artist's ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hvvjiE4AdUI ) skip to 2:05, and also be careful there is a lot of language in this video if you play it strait through.

I've never created a deity for anything in Palladium. D&D I have created one.

I did once create an alien intelligence for Rifts as a player character. No, I wasn't getting munchkin with it, the GM told the group to really go for it. I pulled it out, he approved it.

The AI would assume humanoid form commonly, kept up on technological advances, and refused to be worshipped as a god. A decent sort of individual, he wasn't afraid to go to different worlds and help out against despots in subtle ways. I thought it was an excellent concept for that scale of game. Too bad the GM really wasn't prepared for it.

Ah, gods and demon lords count, sorry - i have this habit of counting supernatural & alien intelligences as different beings even though i do know it's completely arbitrary setting-wise.

- Tzarvarog, self-proclaimed "Demon Lord of Russia", a russian stone demon (Mystic Russia, pgs.34-36) that evolved some serious ambition and ego after decades of somehow consuming and torturing the magical secrets out of scores of earth warlocks. Or at least that's how the story goes among its servants and followers of how it got smarter and more powerful than its ilk. Still appreciates them as occasional sacrifices.

- Erebus and Nyx, an obscure couple of entities of unknown origin and loose ties to the olympian gods, having interacted with both the gods associated with Zeus and the titans that preceded them. Strongly connected to shadows and darkness, them and their magic seem closer to elemental intelligences than gods or demon lords, being served by a number of "shadow warlocks" across several worlds and dimensions.

- The Titans. Unlike what one might guess from greek myths, these beings were neither true gods or alien intelligences like their overlord Cronos, but creations resulting from fusing with mortals and elementals or other beings with essence fragments in whole new beings, a secret stolen from Anu of the babylonian gods in interactions long forgotten by history and myth. Alas, while made powerful through it, Cronos' version of the secret paled in comparison to the one that formed Enlil (if by error or paranoid intent, only Cronos might now know for sure) and the cabal of empowered witches, shifters and evil warlocks proved no match to Zeus and his brethen without the support of their overlord. Some of them escaped imprisonment in Tartarus and for a time they tried to "poach" worship from the olympians through fringe communities and mystery cults. Their last confrontation was with Heracles in what would later become the Principality of Monaco, where they were defeated but managed to sue for pardon and were absorbed into the olympians in a supporting role. Except for Rhea, who was the closest to Cronos (and participated with him in the making of their "children") and has not been seen for ages.

A few of my games have had......Odd Alien Intelligences.
-I had one that was a two dimensional circular rainbow....that was always face on to the observer....all of them....at once
-I had one that was large floating hunk of crystal with 555 perfectly even facets....
-I had one that looked like a huge pile of chains. Instead of tentacles it extended some of its chains. held in collars on the links were the souls of all those it had absorbed in its millions of years
-I had one that was made up of a series of sounds.....its 'body' was, more or less, its theme music
-I had one that existed in the shadows of those who were in its 'presence'
The rules are not a bludgeon with which to hammer a character into a game. They are a guide to how a group of friends can get together to weave a collective story that entertains everyone involved. We forget that at our peril.

You all know about the Enlightened Immortal eh? That bad-ass martial arts chi powerhouse who sorta received his powers from the Jade Emperor and/or cultivate the powers on his own.

I am just wondering what kind of stats would anyone give to an "humanoid" alien intelligence who is an enlightened immortal as well. As a matter of fact, how would you stat the Jade Emperor?

Well, i would say the oddest the better, considering they are supposed to be Alien Intelligences and considering gods and demon lords can certainly take a variety of forms, a non-humanoid body plan on itself doesn't quite cut it as justification, so great takes i think.

Anything that achieves Enlightenment I would simply say "add the EI template to it."
As for the stats of the Jade Emperor....with in his purview his stats would be along the lines of 'yes' Since he can, explicitly among other things, turn mortals into gods (as per his offer to the EI) and promote/demote Yama Kings, remotely, (who are equal to major gods in their own right). The various powers assigned to him seem to be beyond the normal gods and more in line with the various elder/greater powers (He appears to be to normal gods, what an Old One is to an Alien Intelligence)

I don't even know if the Enlightened Immortal package offers any benefits or even makes sense for an alien intelligence for starters, so can't really say.

Never really thought of it, next time i take a look at Rifts China or Mystic China, maybe.

A friend of mine actually made more of a divine goddess from another dimension, who's lazy, mischievous, often drunk, and sometimes dances instead of fighting, and I've been looking to find a "good" or "selfish" supernatural creature, but other than that, no.

:). Specieist flatworlder human chauvinist pig :fool: (Just kidding) Why do you think there has to be. The AI are kinda like a species. To think they'd break away from their physical design is like thinking their should be a human that is a mass of tentacles eyes and brain like tissue. Now the gods which are pretty much eminations of the followers faith usually end up looking like their followers.

That being said. I made another Dragon God. An Ancient dragon went into Palladium with full knowledge of Dragonwright legends and joined in the battle that lifted the Dragon Gods to their present status. My story is that she was the one that transported xy to the circle that turned him into Thoth.

Actually, going by a bunch of examples in the books their being one and only species if quite debatable - check out the Splugorth, Zlyphan (England) and Soul Worms (South America 1), not to mention individual descriptions here and there in Mercenaries, Psyscape and other books of the mold being either twisted or broken wholesale.

There are SOME races of alien intelligences (q.v. Splugorth), but others seem to be unique beings... one might even argue the "Old Ones" are necessarily a species, but simply incredibly powerful beings who decided not to work at cross purposes all the time.

My dividing line between deity and alien intelligence, incidentally, is native power. A deity is as powerful as an alien intelligence due to the power provided by their worshipers... kill their worshipers or somehow remove the deity from their power, and you have an exceptionally powerful mortal. An alien intelligence, however, is as powerful as a deity natively... they may gain power from worshipers, and use that power for themselves, or to empower priests and witches, but you take that away, and you've still got a being of god-like power.

Maybe the one and only species requirement for AI is that they are U.G.L.Y. they ain't got no alibi, they ugly, yeah, yeah, they ugly.

Well, the Zlyphan kind of put a twist on this, as based on Zazshan's description in England they mostly look like ball lightning.

But as others have said, there are both AI as species and AI as unique pseudo-lovecraftian god-like beings, the first kind being more frequent in older worldbooks (Vampire Kingdoms, Atlantis, England & South America).

Well, public domain or not, while it does not directly references lovecraftian cosmology and such, it cannot be truly connected and considered as a lovecraftian work - technically speaking, inspired or not, Palladiums Old Ones and the Megaverse's Alien Intelligences are their own beast and ergo, the pseudo- definition still stands.

Anyways, there's considerable room for variety in AIs depending on what one is looking for - or if looking for nothing in particular and let the madness of dice define what kind of critter you get. That said, those tables in the Convertion Book could get some tweaking - sunlight is the ultimate weakness, while the chances of far more typical weaknesses in other books, like magic, silver, iron and wood get MUCh lower chances, not to mention things like a 60-90% chance of a healing touch, 70% of mass turn dead.

And yet only 30% for dimensional teleport at will, wth? Weird arrangements - and one of the reasons i sugest sometimes mix and match with random race-monster creation tables in RMB or other books.
