If I was a human (which I would rather be a troll lol) I think Timiro would be a good choice..... unless they being invaded by ogres ofc
Failing that I would choose the Western empire, especially if I was rich

Wisdom or Caer Itomas I'd think.
Getting a mage to tell you where the hydra is...10,000 gold
Hiring a summoner... 40,000 gold
Hiring one hundred 10th level mercenaries... 98,567 gold
Giving a hydra skull to your necromancer... priceless

If I was rich then Cear Itom. If I'm poor the Eastern Territory, probably Wisdom.

I think I would want my own little kingdom in the Eastern Territories. As an immortal golem wizard I could rule forever.
As a man's shadow follows his footsteps wherever he goes, so will destruction pursue those who commit evil deeds.

I'd pick either one of these three:
Free Troker, Baalgor Wastelands
New Crest, Eastern Territory
Ophid's Grasslands Colony, Western Empire
You?
The city of Wisdom from Eastern Territory.
Ankh, udja, seneb.

The Elf got it. Kaash is in the Eastern Territory. Not a nice place to live, but that just means it's ripe for Adventure!

Wherever I would live, it would have to be sufficiently far away from other populated areas as to be quiet. And it would have to be in a fortified castle with sufficient guards that it could repel invaders. I suppose that would pretty much make it either in the Baalgor Wastelands or in a desert area.

Hordes of Undead and werecreatures technically make it as good as populated. Its the only "safe" place in the LoD that i can think of.
Low population and good folks you could go with the only (i think only) millinium tree up north in the woods too.

Somewhere secluded enough I could have a privately owned castle without having to worry about it being constantly under attack. I shall have to look at the Eastern Territory book to figure out where exactly it would be situated, but Glade sounds nice enough.zyanitevp wrote:You could go with Glade if you are looking for secluded. I don't think the Millennium Tree, nor its inhabitants, would welcome a castle....

If you build a castle, things will come to assault it. It's the law of castles. Besides, if you're not planning for war, what's the use of a castle. Just enjoy a nice villa instead.

The Three Little Piggies would disagree.
If you build a castle right, and run it right, most foes won't bother you. Displays of unguarded wealth like villas are open invitations to every wannabe burglar, brigand, and greedy supernatural critter.
Any foe that will come at you in a castle will come at you in a villa a lot sooner. They'll steal your money, food, and women-folk to supply and 'entertain' their army while they lay siege to the third little piggy who built a stone castle.
Piggy wisdom FTW.

The castle as a setting is already being written. It is going to be a castle regardless of where I put it in the game. The elf wizard has a lot of wealth to protect, so he's not going to leave it open and vulnerable. I was simply looking for a setting for it within the larger Palladium world. In stories I have written in the past, the castle has been typically in the center of a desert or remote area, which is why I am looking to situate it as such. The castle is also supposed to be situated over a fire dragon den, though, which might make it better situated on the side of a volcano or mountain.

Get on good terms with the giants of Nimro. Will never be fully accepted, but with donations and magic teaching, they will probably let you set up house.

The wolf lost because he got careless and over aggressive. Sieges are rarely about breaking walls, and more about plague and starvation. Now that I think of it, a place full of dangerous animals and monsters is the ideal place for a siege, uncontrolled wilderness will only force an enemy in a protracted attack to fear for their flanks, and have their own supply lines disrupted. In light of that, I suggest the Shattered Lands, Gargoyle. You can also make a sweet castle resembling the spiring rock shards and have it be all black and gothic.

Re: Where would you choose to live?
Here's my idealized home for Palladium Fantasy. Deep in the Northern Hinterlands, a bunch of Rifts: England-style druids (except for that hippy bum OCC, the Millennium Druid) form the mother of all Hearth and Homes.
Herbalists culture, grow, and shape stonewood trees into an impregnable outer wall, and arch/shape several close-growing Fernwoods together to make a central keep/great hall out of these enormous trees (also makes for a great lookout tower). Within the living Stonewood walls, they raise crops and grow huge varieties of flora in their gardens and shape other large trees into homes.
Scathachs work as the craftsmen of the community. Their Cauldrons of Plenty keep the community fed through the long winters, their Boiling Cauldrons provide heat without needing fire, their Endless Water cauldrons allow the community to be their own water source, and their weapons give this community a crucial edge.
Filidhs provide entertainment and wander the area, scouting and trading with other settlements.
Dryads work with the Herbalists to grow and craft great works of herbal magic and healing. Disease and ailments would be rare indeed.
These subtle magic users pool their PPE in the winter months to turn their living compound into a Shangri-La style wonder of the North. Woe betide the evildoer who tries to attack them. Herbalists animate stonetrees against them, Filidh's and Scathaches will fight like warrior-poets, and Dryads will work their subtle, yet potent magic against all aggressors. A siege would be pointless; they are totally self-sufficient and comfortable in one of the harshest environments on the planet.

Where are the Shattered Lands located, specifically? Lord Darkbird would like the gothic feel, I think.Cinos wrote:Hotrod wrote:Any foe that will come at you in a castle will come at you in a villa a lot sooner. Piggy wisdom FTW.

It's south of Glade and the world tree, in the middle of the eastern kingdoms along the shattered mountains that run through the center northward.
Getting a mage to tell you where the hydra is...10,000 gold
Hiring a summoner... 40,000 gold
Hiring one hundred 10th level mercenaries... 98,567 gold
Giving a hydra skull to your necromancer... priceless
Board? Read bad fan fiction!

Very nice.

Re: Where would you choose to live?
I'd be aiding the Wolfen.
Eyes without life, maggot-ridden corpses, mountains of skulls... these are a few of my favourite things.
I am the first angel, loved once above all others...
Light a man a fire, and he's warm for a day; light a man on fire, and he's warm for the rest of his life.
Turning the other cheek just gets you slapped harder.
The Smiling Bandit (Strikes Again!! Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha!)
