Admittedly, in Appleseed, they were referring to the sheer number of connections one could plug into the cyborgs' spines(as one terrorist cyborg puts it to Briareos: "Yeah, you Hekatonkheires system cyborgs can run an aircraft carrier all by yourselves!". In Rifts you MIGHT see that level of sophistication out of the Central Alliance.

the ex machina movie had a variation on that exchange..
Aeacus - "the Hecatonchires were giants with a hundred arms, right?"
Brialeos - "that's mythology. now it's a system that can connect to multiple external networks"

it was after the awesome riff on the robocop gun range scene.. some eSWAT cops firing pistols, then we see Aeacus ripping off bursts with a huge pistol as the cops look on in awe... followed by Brialeos busting out dual wielded light machineguns in gun-fu and accurately devestating the targets on the range in short controlled multi-targeting bursts..

Didn't particularly care for Ex Machina's endgame set up(it felt too video game big boss final battle), though the first half helped further develop the characters and the world( for example, Poseidon, mentioned briefly in both Appleseed and Gits*, which comes off as a more economically machiaveillian Japan, in contrast to the Balkanized America described in Ghost in the Shell). Still, the CGI did bring a number of the designs seen in the original manga to life(the Hermes transports, for instance)
In general, of late, Shirow's drifting off to do really attenuated skinny girl porn hasn't sat well with me.

*One of the panels in the original Ghost in the Shell, you can see a little Bri and Duenan on a set of steps. And Poseidon is mentioned in the decidedly storyline-murky 'sequel' to the the Ghost in the Shell manga. This, despite the fact that Shirow's stated that the two series are unrelated. The animated GITs seems to try to reconcile the two with regards to at least one point; in the anime the world seems to have at one limited nuclear exchange, though Appleseed is supposed to take place many decades later after much more widespread warfare.

Scary thought for the day:
A Shemarrian Domimatrix learning this: http://palladium-megaverse.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=138087

"YOU WEREN'T SUPPOSED TO DO THAT!!! SHE WASN'T A PRISONER, SHE WAS IN -PROTECTIVE CUSTODY-!!!"
"I was instructed to 'Keep her entertained'."'
"HOW DOES THAT TRANSLATE INTO THREE DAYS WITHOUT SLEEP BEING TICKLED?!"
"She was entertained."
"You broke her mind. This changes all our plans now that she can't hold an intelligent conversation without laughing out of context, constantly giggling, or stand without wobbling in circles."
"I took GOOD care of her."
"I'm going to find whoever put a Domimatrix in charge of handling a protective custody detainee and do some forceful re-programming."
"Can I help?"
"NO!"

Hoyt finds out about the Hekkies release:

Oh they're out? Well let's see the stats.
Good designs all across, now for the options...
?
I'm going on a lunch break..

Skullcrusher/Hawkmoon outpost Gan'poswa:

Two hours of false hells, body swapping into mecha, and general tantruming in a closed off area...

YOu promised Neyrs, you said they would stick to my designs. But nooo, they make no sense, most of the documents are coated in frozen cake batter, you VatFathers are a collective groin stomp on the field of mad science. Get off me, Sally you know my usual forced removal protocols, tell these birdbrains to add more juice to the tazers. You all turned my modular messiahs into apes of the week. Neyrs, I miss us take me back.... If any of this gets on Allitube, I just might let loose a ummm, hoard of foot massage teddy bears to keep you all relaxed. Wait that cam out wrong.
Cries dissipate in the distance and restraints.

Overall, thanks and great work considering the original ideas.

Skullcrusher Vatfather: "A 'collective groin stomp to mad scientists'? But...but...but I just baked you COOKIES!"
Cookies? What kind?
"Chocolate Chip!"
Sounds...kinda DOMESTIC...
"With anti-matter dots...you know, the kind that comes with the bright containment shells?"
I thought those were M&Ms.
"M-AMs actually."
What yield?
"I figure about thirty-forty kilotons per cookie."
So....you're saying that essentially if anybody eats the Tollhouse cookies, odds are, they'll be paying passage on the Styx?
"In as many words."
I think I'm on a diet starting now...

That's why, under the stats for the Vatfathers, I listed some quick and dirty guidelines for scaled-down 'prototype' cyberanimals and Warmounts. You can use them to reverse-engineer existing/posted Warmounts to get 'mini' or 'chibi' versions to have running around.

Pretty much... as in the canon description of the original (ARCHIE 03) Berserker caste; the fact they're only wearing bangles and a bit of fur over the naughty bits and STILL running screaming towards an enemy, waving 4ft. of humming vibro-blade, should tell a potential enemy one of two things.

BTW; judgement call here; what would be the best 'small' scout and infiltration vessel for 2 berserkers, a Valkar and their "chosen fallen" to sneak in & out of a hot L/Z?

Modified *ESheMar-AuxCv04 “Goshawk” Corvette, or a gimmicked PS Sunchaser(or, if you have Rifter #34, using one of the quick-build Bounty Hunter ships in the Galactic Tracer Starship Creation Rules article).
Sadly, the 'Hirunda' listed in the Shemarrian Codex is not yet ready to fly.

Just proceed backwards along this thread for the Goshawk...and I presume you used a copy of the Sunchaser(available in both the Paladin Steel and New Spacecraft threads) as a template already? You might still have it on your harddrive?

Yah. The Goshawk is a versatile little ship, similar in storyline fodder to Star Trek's 'runabouts'...just big enough for star travel and carrying fairly large adventurer parties in cozy style, without requiring carrying around several hundred NPC crew-mooks just to properly run things.
On my 'To Do' list is pictures of the 'baseline' forms of the general-purpose EShemar starships. Gotta have summer projects, after all.

Well, aside from the super-secret invisible Shemarrian army, its major NPCs with full stats, and all its equipment*...no, nothing, new was posted of late.

(* so stealthy it can only be seen/read by those with 'Need to Know, Then Shoot Yourself Immediately Afterwards and Have Your Remains Cremated' security clearance)

“Arms of darkness, eyes of fire! Yet another Demon of the Deep comes forth to hunt us, this time at the behest of the damned Shemarrians! Makes no difference if it be a thing of flesh and blood or a machine of metal! T’is possessed of a hatred of our kind and a lust for the blood of Splynncryth’s own! The Abyss is no place to venture alone, lest the darkness hunt yeh!”
---Kydian sailor, to a class of new gobs.

The success of the Darkwaters’ ‘Ghlastin’ SSN in actions against the Splugorth and other meritime enemies led to increased Darkwater Tribe naval operations against the Spugorth, and a greater emphasis on naval engineering. The ‘Humboldt’ is one of several new vessels designed to extend the Darkwaters’ operations into the deep seas and carry the fight to the enemy’s own waters.
The Humboldt(a Lazlo assigned reporting name; as with many Shemarrian vessels and designs, it is not known what they themselves call these craft) resembles a giant cuttlefish, complete with long articulated robotic tentacles. The ‘eyes’ are really high-powered laser turrets, able to slice open ships from underwater and able to shoot aircraft down over the water . The ship is even propelled by hydrojets and ‘skinned’ in a dark camouflaging anechoic covering.
The Humboldt typically engages targets at long range with its torpedoes, offering fire support to other vessels or flotillas of aquatic Warmounts, closing only after an opponent is subdued, in order to rip and tear with its tentacles, completing the dismantling of an enemy.
So complete is the Humboldt‘s resemblance to a giant squid or cuttlefish, that the submarine is often mistaken for one at a distance. The Darkwaters have taken advantage of this to disguise their movements as just random monsters.
Though the Humboldt very much resembles a giant cuttlefish in both appearance and capabilities, the Humboldt is NOT a Warmount and is NOT inhabited by an Ecotroz essence, nor can its computer systems be infected by one. It is a vehicle/vessel, and must be commanded and operated by a crew, in this case a complement of Shemarrians.
If the Humboldt has any shortcomings, it is the vessel’s lack of extra capacity; the vessel cannot carry Warmounts, and has room for only a token contingent of troops. Accompanying marine units must travel aboard other vessels or escorting aquatic Warmounts. When moving salvage, Humboldts must often serve as a tugs for large bouyed nets of material, pulling them along to where the Shemarrians can better hide and sort their battlefield loot, as the submarines have little cargo space to spare.
The Darkwaters Tribe of Rifts Earth operates several squadrons of Humboldts from secret underwater ‘stables’ along the American eastern coast. The design has also been seen in operation offworld with the Shemarrian Star Nation wing of the Darkwaters and their Deep Watch, although several similar vessels are known to be in service with the Horrorwoods.

Type: Es-SSN03 Humboldt
Class: Medium Combat Submarine
Crew: 21+1-10 passengers/troops
MDC/Armor by Location:
Main Body 2,800
Reinforced Pressure Hull/Crew Compartment 400
Tentacles(10) 350 each
Laser Turrets(2) 300 each
Heavy Torpedo Tubes(10) 60 each
Height: 20 ft
Width: 24 ft
Length: 167 ft
Weight: 1,125 tons surfaced, 1,400 tons submerged
Cargo: Provision for up to 90 tons of equipment/ordnance carried aboard.
Powerplant: Nuclear Fusion, w/ a 20 year energy life.
Speed: (Surface) 30 MPH
(Underwater) 54 MPH, maximum depth of 2 miles.
Market Cost: Exclusive to the Darkwater Shemarrian Tribe
Systems of Note:
Standard Submarine Systems, plus:

*Long Range Sonar----(Passive) 100 miles, (Active) 10 miles

*Magnetic Anomaly Detector----Mounted in the ‘head’ is a passive magnetic anomaly detector(MAD) for locating other submarines and ships. ----60 mile range

*Stealth--- (-30% to enemy detection roles)

*Magnetic Impeller ”Caterpillar” Drive--The sub can be propelled by a special hydro-magnetic impellor jet. Speed is 20% slower than a regular hydrojet, but the system has the advantage of being far quieter.
Bonuses: -15% to Detection rolls using sonar/accoustic scanners

Weapons Systems:
1) Eye Lasers(2)---The big protruding eyes are really high-powered laser turrets.
Range: 2 miles in air and underwater
Damage: 2d4x10 MD per single blast
Rate of Fire: ECHH
Payload: Effectively unlimited

2) Heavy Torpedo Tubes(10)----The Humboldt is fitted to fire dual-mode rocket-propelled torpedoes, originally based on a North American adaptation of Kittani weaponry, but the tubes also have the capability to accommodate and fire stocks of salvaged original Kittani weapons:
a) ‘SeaFire’ Missile-Torpedoes
Range:(Underwater) 20 miles
(Air) 75 miles
Speed:(Underwater) 400 MPH
(Air) Mach 3
Damage: 4d6x10 MD
Rate of Fire: Volleys of 1-10
Payload: 64
Bonuses: (Torpedo)Because of the torpedoes’ higher speed and advanced targeting systems, the Sea Fire doesn’t suffer the same range and accuracy penalties as conventional torpedoes. The Sea Fire has a +1 to strike, and a +3 to strike within 3,000 ft of the target.
(Missile)---Not quite as accurate as a Harpoon III, but more powerful. +3 to strike

b) Kittani Long Range Rocket Torpedoes
Range:(Underwater) 500 miles
(Air) 1,800 miles
Speed:(Underwater) 200 MPH
(Air) Mach 3
Damage: 4d6x10 MD
Rate of Fire: Volleys of 1-10
Payload: 32 can be carried

3) Tentacles(10)----These are extra-large robotic tentacles, capable of grabbing targets, lifting them, and crushing them, or for stripping wrecks of salvage and loot. They are lined with molecular adhesion pads for enhanced grip(it is possible to break free of them, if one can match the Humboldt’s robotic strength, but tearing out of the adhesion pads’ grip will do 1d4 damage per pad from material still stuck to them).
Two of the tentacles are designed longer than the others, with telescoping sections that allow the two to retract and extend, as well as to punch with extra force, especially into and through the hides of undersea monsters and the hulls of ships.
Typically 2-3 crewmembers are assigned to manage the tentacles when engaging in close contact combat, cyberlinking to direct the robotic limbs as if they were extensions of their own bodies.
Range: Melee. The six short tentacles have a reach of 40 ft, while the two ‘striker’ tentacles can extend up to 90 ft.
Damage: (Robotic P.S. of 50)
(Lash/Punch) 3d6 MD
(Crush/Squeeze) 2d4x10 MD per full melee of pressure
(Striker Stab)(2 attacks)1d6x10 MD
Rate of Fire: EGCHH

That is cool vessel. That would be a vessel that could be built locally within the sphere of the Shemarrin influence.
"Your Grace," she said, "I have only one question. Do you wish this man crippled or dead?"

"My Lady," the protector of Grayson told his Champion, "I do not wish him to leave this chamber alive."

"As you will it, your Grace."

Yep...there's damn few big robots with tentacles(Palladium seems to regard tentacles as weaker than rigid robotic limbs), so there's a niche there.

AND...as if I don't have enough to do already, in another time-waster, I'm compiling a list of the names, caste-classes, and Tribal affiliations(maybe even current status) of all NAMED Shemarrians, EShemarrians, and NeShemarrians who have appeared in this thread...in part to avoid, on my part, re-using the same last names like 'Bonebreaker' or 'Swiftsword' for one-shot NPCs in the fluff.

Yep, well, if you can comb your own files and memories and post what you got here, I'll slip them into the compilation. THAT would be a time saver, since I can think of a few of yours, but not all of them. :bandit:

He's more a yo-yo consultant/incident, rather than a defacto permanent member of the Tribes.
Actually, he's in a class by himself. Just above 'Vash, the Human Stampede' and just below the Dirty Pair Lovely Angels in terms of catastrophe ranking. .

And the Turning of a Page"

Actually, Vash is referred to as the Humanoid Typhoon. His name is Vash the Stampede. Although I don't remember where the Stampede part comes from, and don't ask me to give his full name without having to refer to the dvds again :P

Yes.. that's the one.. Ok, not really his full name.. just the really long one. Been awhile since I've seen it. Time to dig out the tin case limited editions again!

Random Bystander; "DAMN that's a long name..."
Other bystander; "Nah...that's just his FIRST name. Wait until we go into geneology, titles, ranks..." *continues on* :P :D

Updated the Name Registry, and added a copy of it to the beginning of this thread for beginning readers. ;)
