Long story short, I've got a 'bandage' solution for reconciling the pittifully SHORT ranges for PW ship-based weaponry in comparrison to the super O.M.G. ranges of the Zentraedi cannons (1st edition, as PBooks has NOT and has no plans on publishing their cap-ship book for Hobotech).
That, and I always found the knife fighting ranges of the guns for PW cap-ships to be absurd.

With the disruption of the summoning ritual, the local fauna (and even possibly flora), of Nabraeus Valley became blood maddened. Sleipnir quickly retrieved everyone in Team Alpha, the hover vehicle and even Lt. Moon’s Beta fighter. It was a close run thing too; the entire interior of the valley basin became a free for all feeding frenzy by every twisted form of life the resided in Nabraeus. A hurried conference was held over radio as crew & passengers of Sleipnir hastily stowed their gear, and it was decided that the least dangerous location to investigate (and possibly most profitable) was the mysterious hillside to the Western ridge. Sleipnir hovered over to said investigation site and “sterilized” a landing area close to the hill, but avoided damaging the crab shaped & humanoid mecha near it. That evening, Lt. Moon & James Cormac bonded over coffee’s and food while Tao-Shi attempted to reconcile her experiences with what she had been brought up to believe. Meanwhile the rest soon went off to their respective quarters, except for Fionna who was ordered to stay with Rika, due to the presence of “negative paranormal causality.” (Re; a luck curse) and Rika not wanting Fionna to break her neck getting out of bed. This decision had embarrassing (and amusing) consequences as Rika woke up half way through the ship-night, naked, and cuddling with her X/O.
At sunrise, all business, Rika laid out who would be going out and investigating the hillside. Fionna & Deiter would stay behind due to luck curse and no fully N.B.C. sealed armours for the two, while Shalyndra decided to remain behind as she did not feel a blades’-woman would be of any use. The rest however, would go. Entry into the hillside object wasn’t difficult; requiring only that the team scramble over the sprawled (and thankfully) inactive crab-like mecha. Inside, they saw almost organic rib-like structures composed of a metallic substance. A brief investigation showed that there were chambers close by both past one wall and also below their location. Johannes used his magical halberd to cut a way through the alien material into the next chamber (a much smaller volume); to either side he saw what looked like giant eye-lids made of the metallic substance. Lt. Moon suggested that they might be air-locks of some sort, while Rika supported the hypothesis. The psionic members of the group began to feel light headed as Johannes carved their way deeper, going downwards now. As the battle-magus descended down into one of the lower rooms, after causing a pressure shift (the later chambers having positive pressure) he encountered a humanoid machine, similar in style to the crab-mecha leaning against one of the walls and an airlock leading deeper into the structure was open: source of the higher pressure air. Felix carved a small marker into the wall and followed the rest of the team. Meanwhile, un-noticed by anyone, Rika fell unconscious and slumped to the floor in the first chamber that had been opened.
Outside, the Sleipnir reported to Fionna that a massive dimensional anomaly building up centered inside the hill. Fionna attempted to communicate a warning to her exploring team-mates. The radio was unable to penetrate.
In the alien structure, the rest of Team Alpha along with Lt. Moon noticed that Rika was no longer with them and returned to find her unconscious. To further heighten their unease, the damage to the alien metal was beginning to heal from Johannes’ “excavations” and Felix’s direction mark had been removed. In a panic, the exploring team (aside from Mr. Johannes Teufel, whose bloody-mindedness came to the fore, so he began to go further in) decided a tactical retreat was in order.
They were too late.
Hillside & Object, Sleipnir and over three cubic km of Caliban landscape were dimensionally transposed in a D-Fold event. Not wasting time, Johannes cut another opening, this time to outside; not realizing that outside was now the vacuum of space. Fortunately Sleipnir & Fionna were quick to recover from the D-Fold event and before the explorers could die from explosive decompression, they activated the teleport grid and brought the rest of Sleipnirs’ crew back on board. Sadly all was not well; Rika soon began to start screaming as whatever intelligence was controlling the now revealed alien space craft (Lt. Moon, once she could get a look at it, remarked it looked identical to a Zentraedi Salaan Scout gunship) began to speak through her. Leena Shidow quickly took the captain to the med-bay after administering a strong sedative to her. Disordered requests for information from the rest bombarded Sleipnir, which was fortunately able to determine that they were no longer near Caliban, and were in fact 300 LY distant. Teufel attempted to try and usurp command authority from Fionna faraday, demanding they return to Caliban and report to higher authority, not realizing that on a naval vessel on detached duty (even paramilitary) the captain and X/O ARE “THE” highest authority.
While the two domineering personalities began their territorial threat displays at each other, cooler heads headed up to the bridge to see about making sure nothing else would go wrong.
Things went wrong.
In order:
* Rika began screaming (while restrained) for the crew to “Kill the monster, before it finds more to wake up! Kill it before the brood begins to swarm!” Her hysterics then switched over to Motavian standard / Al-bhed language. Felix & Leena did what they could to keep her sedated (to no good effect).
* The “not-quite” Salaan-Scout had gone completely EM dark; absorbing every iota of available EM radiation in the new solar system. Then a high energy build up was detected as two multi-terawatt plasma cannons discharged at Sleipnir’s bow; one being blocked by the forward shield before blowing out the generator while the other seared through the first 3 layers of hull-plating.
*Johannes had to use his own mana-reserves to power the magitech anti-energy system due to the fact something had drained all the magicite PPE batteries.
* Retaliatory fire from Sleipnir by Shalyndra, James and eventually Fionna & Johannes had no trouble striking deep into the hull of the alien vessel. The first few volleys however began to leave auto-stigmatic sympathetic damage upon Rika. Only quick action by Leena and application of anti-psi “sleeper” drugs kept the NuMan captain from suffering further damage.
* Leena miscalculated trying to teleport a quickly cobbled together nuclear bomb. The device detonated equidistant between the two vessels.
* A final concentrated laser-cannon volley and particle-beam lance fire cored the alien ship, causing the reactor to loose containment and explode.
After the battle, the Sleipnir required dry dock to effect repairs. A world not more than 15 hours away at maximum sub-light had been detected just prior to the skirmish and it was decided to travel there. An atmosphere of Nitrogen & oxygen (though thin) had been observed on long range scans. The crew rested while they could, leaving Fionna & Shalyndar to take turns piloting.
On arrival at the detected planet, “inhabitable” was a loose term to describe the tortured globe before Team Alpha’s eyes.
A ring composed of massive rocky fragments (of a former moon it was surmised) encircled the cratered and scored planet. Some of the craters were seen to glow visibly with Cherenkov radiation even on the dayside hemisphere, showing that titanic energies had been unleashed. In fact, James Cormac had to run several sweeps to make sure he wasn’t hallucinating: the worst of the craters seemed to have been knocked out of phase with sidereal space-time, being 2 to 15 seconds out of synch.
Regardless, Shalyndra touched down on the world with no problems, well away from the worst of the radiation readings. Leena Shidow and one of the resident repair drones (Munin) began work as soon as they could, while Felix and Johannes prepared to go out and investigate something Felix had picked up just before re-entry.

Ouch...well, just roll with the punches. If a forty-year old boxer can win his last match and championship over a guy a decade his junior, you'll survive it.

Lost Seraph wrote:Gatchaman is a team anime. My plan would be either a Techno Wizard who inspired by old TV shows, animation, etc to make TW devices and vehicles based around them, a physical gestalt that generates from people with memories of the show, or a mystically bestowed character that yells out various Japanese sentai team quotes and changes costume each time to match said team (potentially powers as well, but that can get a into lot of bookeeping issues). It's not much different then the magic weapon guy I had who gained power to smite evil doers via a signed bass guitar from Kiss (Gene Simmon's axe bass), and would lose his powers if the band ever broke up. I like variation or unusual characters, like the Simvan Cyber Knight who never encountered any threats because he was always away when the party encountered trouble. Or the Shing Temporal Mage that followed a bear from her homeworld through a gate and ended up in England. She joined the order of the Bear, a support and agent organization set up to find the 13 lost relics of Arthur to make King Arthuu the rightful king of England. And so on. I released all of the Juicer, Crazy, Borg, high power stuff from my system when I started with Rifts back in 1990. It's about concept, and then setting up a character based around the concept that makes me and the GM happy.

Well, we have me, Calto, and Seraph may be a bit late but he's in. Any word from Monkra or Fallout?
