I'd rather they don't make a rifts movie. The odds of it being terrible are just too high. I'd much rather see a rifts video game and my second choice would be a comic or cartoon (most likely anime style). Feature film is just not a good medium for roleplaying games. The odds are they'll try to include way to much and the audience who aren't familiar will be confused or it'll just be super cheesy like the dungeon and dragons movies. I think you'd get a much better reception and even a better suited story telling medium in a video game then you would with a movie. I know I'm being pessimistic but I think I'm also being realistic

Voted Mercenaries. I think out of the choices given, Mercs would be able to give a better, unbiased view of the other choices. It could be written in a way that allows the viewers to form their own opinions on the other major players of Rifts Earth.

I do not recall ever saying that all CS soldiers are evil but as nation the CS is evil and would probably be portrayed like the empire in Star wars

if someone was to put RIFTS to film it would have to be one of those HBO high end miniseries that are at least 10 hours long. it would take that much time just to get people to understand the backgrounds and what is going on.

This is also my opinion. Maybe they should contact Starz as well, I think they did Spartacus pretty well (my favorite "man opera").

You didn't flat-out call them evil, but you SURE implied it. Just wanted to clarify that the CS could be the "good guys". And I don't think the producers would pit an "evil" CS against an even more evil Federation of Magic. If they were to take this approach, I believe they would portray the individual soldiers of the CS as the "good guys". Maybe not "completely good", but the guys most of the viewers would side/sympathize with. The parallels to our own military would dictate as much...

but i say no movie they will botch it the heck up.

I agree with this as the best idea for a film version of RIFTS coupled with the mercenary idea from above. Now that would be great show and long enough to provide plenty of depth on the setting and characters.
No Tolkeen I think a new original story would be best.

I don't agree. That would be like saying that I, myself, would be a reflection of George W. Bush, which couldn't be FURTHER from the truth. (I was in the military while Little Bush was POTUS.)

You have a group of CS Soldiers realizing that the side they're fighting for is just as evil as who they're fighting, at which point they're shown struggling with that until they decide that evil as their own empire is there are innocents who've been deluded like them that they have to continue on and stop what the Federation of Magic has planned before going rogue to try and free their people from the evil they've been deceived into committing.

Dont get me wrong i want to see some sweet cgi dragons ripping something up but if its just all action it misses th point and is just anouther SF movie , but the setting is the best part of rifts and I want that on display front and formost

If there was any interest in a movie at 1 time .. I am certain there is none now.. And the powers that run this site an own the company just do not want to say anything about it in hopes that its still in play .. some where .

But as far as me, I do not believe we in our life times will see this movie .. in any form ..(if ever)

Regarding what I want to see out of a Rifts movie, I alsp vote for: "Not making one"

I firmly believe as mentioned, that there will never be a movie for Rifts in our lifetimes.

If there was a movie, I would think it should most definitely be about the beginning of the apocalypse, and not kill the Rifts world by just showing NA conflict. I dont know about the rest of the posters here but I was attracted to Rifts from the original Rule book cover and the idea of the 'worlds' conflict / survival. NA is not Rifts, it is just a part of it which i think most Rifts gamers left tend to focus mostly on currently.

I would want to see a TA character which shows the side of what happened to it and how it corresponds with the apocalypse. I would like to a SA survivor that shows the tale of all the genetic manipulation and nuclear war. I would also want Nemo to be in there. These would be characters that were there in the begining and would be the focal points for the world as the survivors of this event to jump start new viewers into the world of Rifts.

This would be better shown as a HBO series as mentioned than a movie as it could bring all these stories togather to give the viewer a starting look at Rifts and leave them with a strong feeling for the peril, danger and adventure the world offers that many of us felt when picking up the Rifts rule book for the first time and devouring its info.

Which also made me sad that the novels they chose to do was again about NA and CS than introducing the setting that is the Rifts world.

I don't see why it couldn't work as a film. All it needs is a brief 5-to-10 minute intro explaining the state of the world, like the beginning of Fellowship of the Ring, and that's it. There's no way it can work as a tv show, though. It'd be way too expensive.

As for the CS being the good guys, sure, some CS soldiers are good, but they still work for the Coalition States. It'd be like making a WWII movie with the Germans as the good guys. Sure, some German soldiers may have been good, but they still work for Nazi's...

It's funny you bring that up. When I was in Iraq, the locals looked at US like we were the Nazis. Do YOU think the United States is the "Evil Empire"? Matter of perspective...

There is a difference between a nation which actively pursues genocide and one which doesn't. And you can't make agents for a genocidal regime the heroes in any way, shape, or form.

It's scary how many actively try to do so unfortunately. The only way such agents could be the heroes is if they're deluded into thinking that they're in the right, and have character development whereby they realize that the empire they support is not good as they thought but evil (often by seeing some barbaric act that so shocks their sensibilities that they suffer an heroic BSOD before choosing to uphold the ideals they'd been taught rather than the evils they're actually encouraged to do).

Ya i think a lot of people try to make the CS into the good guys as they are a cool concept, but because they are the only real military power block of NA, I imagine many like to imagine them as the USA military equivalent, and by supporting or backing up the CS as good guys, they dont realize how deluded they are.

If you want the American army equivalent, it is in Rifts, and i like them. The New Navy is your peeps. They just didnt make thier bases on old American soil, because the Nazi CS was in the process of claiming it.

As for a movie, it needs to introduce us to the world of Rifts, not just one faction of it. Otherwise you will have a very skewed view for no viewers to what Rifts is as they will only ever picture the area it was focused on.

Has anyone read the movie script that KS wanted used for the movie? I havent, but i suspect it is about the CS vs Fed of magic... which to me would be a total fail for a first movie.

Sounds like Vietnam (another illegal war fought by good people). And you have NO IDEA what happened over there!!! We think we're doing the right thing (as a nation) because the propaganda back home says we're doing the right thing. People join, GOOD PEOPLE, and then get ordered to do bad things! Then it's: "do I disobey orders and ruin my life?" or "do I just try to forget what I'm about to do and try to make up for it later?". I find it hard to believe that every single citizen of the CS is a D-bee hating, genocidal, maniac; if that were the case they wouldn't try sooooooo hard to keep the population ignorant (like you!!!) So if perspective isn't an issue, why does the CS try so hard to limit it!?
