The icing on the cake is my mechanic, who after nine hours(spread over two days) of poking and trying it, still couldn't get it to fail, so he tells me "it could be one of a hundred things...You wouldn't want me to lie to you...it's going to be expensive....I need it to fail first before I can tell you what's wrong with it....so far it hasn't....you're trying put a deadline to me..."
(Well, hell yes...I need to know if I should rent a car for a week, cancel my vacation plans, figure on missing a few days of work because I'd lose less money that way if I had to rent a car to get there. I need some small certainties so I can lay definite plans with some buffer for the inevitable %^#%ups...)
(So after ten minutes of yaddayaddayadda " I want to give you certainty, we're still uncertain, don't push me bro,,,,"
"Fine, you have a week. Fix the car and I'll shovel money at you. I got things to do(like eat, sleep, plan for the next contingency aided and abetted by idiots)."
:badbad: :badbad: :badbad: :frust: :frust: :frust:

Things are so much simpler when you can just hit them with a rail gun.

Well, seeing as the pre-Rifts island of Martha's Vineyard has temporarily phazed back into place off the post-Rifts remains of Cape Cod, and the Darkwaters' recent campaign of raids and strikes against the Splugorth and Horune have cleared the coastal waters for now, I'm taking the next few days off to take a little vacation time starting Tuesday...should be back the following Sunday(hopefully to finish some of the Shemarrian stuff I started THIS weekend). 8)
Make sure the ladies don't shake things up TOO much before I get back, eh?

Yeah, they had it for a week, couldn't get it to stall, so they took an educated guess and replaced, with my permission, a relay. 230 bucks of work.
Worked fine today...for about 2 hours, Then she stalled twice. :-(
That ain't it. :badbad: :frust: :frust: :frust:
Don't know WHAT I'm going to do at this point. Keep going until it breaks down conistantly and hope I don't get maimed in the process, then run her in again. Argh.
THAT seems to be my new "normal".

Advanced Cultural Notes: (Shemarrian Star Nation) Leysan System---Wolf’s Path Enclave System
“We haven’t even begun to exploit the richness of this system! It will be the work of centuries to thoroughly explore the mysteries of this great system! Our people will be wandering its worlds for many more centuries before we even begin to feel crowded! It’s perfect for us! This pack of worlds is a perfect fit for the Wolf’s Path packs! Truly, She-Mar has smiled upon us!”

With eighteen inhabitable Mars-sized worlds, several large and mineral-rich asteroid belts, and multiple sites of high-tech ruins doting its worlds, Leysan System would be a fabulous find for a colonizing star empire; Leysan could easily serve as the central sector hub of an expanding advance into the galactic region. Why it wasn’t is the least of its mysteries, because in the last known recorded galactic survey of the region some 3,000 years ago, Leysan System didn’t exist; its coordinates show only its two suns, and a large thin nebular ring roiled by internal gravitational anomalies. However, geological dating of the planets shows that they are at least 1.3 billion years old; they could NOT have formed spontaneously in the intervening centuries between the ancient survey and the system’s rediscovery some forty years ago.
Second, the planets of the Leysan system are all apparently of a standardized and uniform size, though deformed and misshapen in defiance of physical astrogeological law. All of them show signs of having been connected by massive land bridges into one massive structure, possibly a giant ring, sphere, or helix. Some of the planet(oids) are still joined together like dumbbells, while others sport giant continent-sized blisters or atmosphere-piercing super-mountains. While evidence suggests that all of the remaining planets shared a common atmosphere and ecology, some of the planets have become nearly uninhabitable on account of their new orbits, becoming either blisteringly hot or extremely cold to the point of their atmospheres beginning to freeze.
Wayfinder scientists have speculated that the worlds of Leysan may have been part of a massive artifical construct (dubbed ‘panLeysan’) that somehow was teleported to the current star system(as part of an experiment gone bad? A giant planetary drive system? A weapon?), or else that the super-construct originated in an alternate dimension with different physical laws, and that the structure was torn apart upon transiting into the Thundercloud Galaxy as a result of incompatibility with the local physical values. They point to the fact that the many asteroid belts show evidence of having been planetoid components of the giant structure that were torn apart and pulverized. The original megastructure may have had as many as thirty or forty planet-nodes as part of itself. The fact that any of the remaining planetoids are intact in their peculiar shape, let alone remain habitable, suggest that the system may retain some of the strange physical laws that ‘bled over’ from their universe of origin.
The fact that the ruins on many of the worlds point towards a fairly advanced humanoid civilization, and that most of them show signs of warfare, suggests to examining scholars that a possible cause of the Leysan megastructure’s demise may have been some sort of apocalyptic war.
In any case, Leysan was discovered and settled by the Wolf’s Path, who use the multiple worlds and environs of the system as their sector enclave stomping grounds. Habitable worlds are being settled by largely nomadic tribal groups, while the rocky and lifeless worlds are being prospected as resource worlds(the unique composition of the planets’ cores, which exhibit certain properties similar to neutronium, intrique Shemarrian metallurgists).
The lack of any gas giants to act as ‘wardens’ for stellar debris is problematic; many of the planets of the Leysan system are subjected to regular meteor collisions. While this doesn’t pose a ‘planet-cracker’ threat for most of the affected planets, or for those worlds most densely populated by the Wolfriders, it has necessitated them keeping a large portion of their aerospace forces on constant ‘rockwatch’, monitoring debris drift and diverting or destroying the larger rocks. The Wolf’s Path have been considering entering into negotiations with either the Silvermoons or the Darkwaters to establish a presence in-system to better police the asteroid problem.
For the most part the Wolf’s Path wander the wildernesses and wastes of the various worlds of Leysan, practicing their nomadic ways and growing in their fashion, leaving the ruins alone for the most part(or using the ruins as practice in urban combat). Several fortified communities have been established on each settled world, to act as defensive posts and to provide industrial bases. A few (heavily armed) Wolfrider and Wayfinder archaeological teams have descended into the ruins to find clues as to Leysan’s unique nature, and to find salvageable artifacts and technology.

Solar System---Leysan
Number of Stars: 2
Types of Stars: Yellow Dwarf, Orange Dwarf.
Number of Planets:
18 habitable planets
12 rocky planets
17 separate and distinctive asteroid belts.

*Inhabitable Planets: ----The inhabitable planets of the Leysan system have not yet officially been given ‘proper’ names; currently the Shemarrians refer to the inhabitable planets as ‘Wolfrons’ with individual numbers:
-Wolfron 1----Nicknamed ‘Icecream Cone’ because of the prominent ice cap covering most of its once heavily-urbanized spheroid section, while its 3,000 mile long ‘stalk’ remains largely ice-free. ( Water coverage: Moist)(Life: Sparse)(Former Habitation/Ruins: Crowded---the wreckage of dozens of cities dot its surface)(Climate: Frigid--Earth polar)

-Wolfron 2---Wolfron 2 was apparently a one-time sprawling spaceport facility serving thousands of ship berths and moving lots of cargo and people. Now, frequent snows and a few hardy plant and animal species drift through the silent gantries and wrecked termini. ( Water coverage: Badlands)(Life: Thin)(Former Habitation/Ruins: Busy)(Climate: Frigid--Earth polar)

-Wolfron 3---An abandoned world, dotted by the scars of some past conflict and past asteroid collisions. Thin forest has returned to the lands. ( Water coverage: Soaking Wet)(Life: Sparse )(Former Habitation/Ruins: Skeleton...perhaps a dozen small communities/outposts left abandoned)(Climate: Cold---roughly equivalent to northern Canada/Europe)

-Wolfron 4----Possibly a former urban center, Wolfron 4 sports a scattering of densely-settled, but now war-ruined, communities. Life has slowly returned to reclaim the deserted planetoid, assisted by the regular cycle of rain storms that irrigate the land. The remains of its two ‘stalks’ have become frost-capped polar ‘mountains’. ( Water coverage: Soaking wet)(Life: Thin)(Former Habitation/Ruins: Settled)(Climate: Cool)

-Wolfron 5 ----Wolfron 5 is really two planets joined by a cylindrical ‘earth bridge’ some 5,000 miles long and miles in 2,000 miles diameter, in a variation on the ‘Rocheworld’ companion planetoids. The planet is rich in life with thick forests covering it. It has become something of a favorite world of the Wolf’s Path. ( Water coverage: Soaking wet)(Life: Verdant)(Former Habitation/Ruins: Colony---the remains of about a dozen town-sized communities have been found)(Climate: Temperate)

-Wolfron 6--A mainly grasslands-covered planet, apparently completely unsettled by the panLeysans. Increasingly refered to as ‘Triland’, on account of the three broken connector stalks sticking out at angles, decribing a polar ‘valley’ between them. ( Water coverage: Moist)(Life: Thin)(Former Habitation/Ruins: Uninhabited)(Climate: Warm)

-Wolfron 7---Surprisingly, Wolfron 7 has a THRIVING desert ecosystem with multiple lifeforms well-adapted to its arid conditions. This has suggested to some that war indeed was responsible for the disaster that overcame panLeysan, with the majority of the destruction and subsequent ecological ruin taking place in the more densely inhabited regions of the superplanet. ( Water coverage: Desert)(Life: Cornucopia)(Former Habitation/Ruins: Colony---the remains of about a dozen town-sized communities have been found)(Climate: Hot)

-Wolfron 8----This planet is covered in thin forest and grasslands, as the wilderness slowly reclaims the scattering of ruins across its surface. It is also the site of several planting experiments by the Wolf’s Path to accelerate the ecological recovery. ( Water coverage: Balanced)(Life: Sparse )(Former Habitation/Ruins: Settled)(Climate: Warm)

-Wolfron 9---Wolfron 9 may have been once heavily settled in the panLeysan era, but possible near collision with another planet-node and subsequent asteroid bombardment have swept the planet clean of most all signs of former habitation. Life has sprung back and reclaimed the wastes with a thin covering of scrub forest and bushland habitat.( Water coverage: Badlands)(Life: Moderate )(Former Habitation/Ruins: Uninhabited)(Climate: Frigid--Earth polar)

-Wolfron 10---Once a heavily settled section of panLeysan, Wolfron 10 has since become arid and hot, with deserts starting to form and push into former urban zones, overwhelming what feral plant life has tried to establish itself.( Water coverage: Badlands)(Life: Thin)(Former Habitation/Ruins: Busy---ruins of about a dozen fair-sized cities with surrounding satellite communities can be found on the planet)(Climate: Hot)

-Wolfron 11----Thick forest has reclaimed this former heavily urbanized zone, and the ruins have been claimed by a new ecosystem of plants and animals.( Water coverage: Soaking wet)(Life: Verdant)(Former Habitation/Ruins: Crowded)(Climate: Temperate)

-Wolfron 12---Almost entirely covered by water, save for the end portion of the 3,000 mile ‘high’ stalk deforming the otherwise perfect sphere. The Wolf’s Path mainly keep to the ‘top’ of this super-plateau, occasionally sending amphibious expeditions to investigate spottings of floating ruins on the main sphere. ( Water coverage: Water World)(Life: Moderate )(Former Habitation/Ruins: Outpost)(Climate: Cool)

-Wolfron 13---Another formerly urbanized planet, wilderness has reclaimed much of Wolfron 13. The planet has been nicknamed ‘wing’ on account of the two broken stalks sticking out from almost opposite sides of the planet.( Water coverage: Balanced)(Life: Moderate )(Former Habitation/Ruins: Busy---ruins of about a dozen fair-sized cities with surrounding satellite communities can be found on the planet)(Climate: Temperate)

-Wolfron 14----This former panLesyan urban area is now covered in decaying cities sitting in swamplands, linked by waterways, under a hot atmosphere and frequent violent thunderstorms. ( Water coverage: Soaking wet)(Life: Sparse)(Former Habitation/Ruins: Busy---ruins of about a dozen fair-sized cities with surrounding satellite communities can be found on the planet)(Climate: Hot)

-Wolfron 15----Wilderness now reclaims the former cities of the panLeysan era, and the Wolf’s Path have taken to hunting the predators that now call many of the former habitations home. ( Water coverage: Moist)(Life: Moderate)(Former Habitation/Ruins: Busy---ruins of about a dozen fair-sized cities with surrounding satellite communities can be found on the planet)(Climate: Temperate)

-Wolfron 16---Wolfron 16 is frozen more or less solid, but is still inhabitable( Water coverage: Water World)(Life: Sparse)(Former Habitation/Ruins: Colony--the remains of several small cities have found frozen into glacial ice or buried under the heavy snowfall )(Climate: Frigid--Earth polar)

-Wolfron 17---Wolfron 17 shows signs of having been an agricultural region, with the cultivated species running wild when panLeysan was destroyed. The ruins of a few plantation farms and harvesting/warehousing centers remain, overrun by the local ecology.( Water coverage: Balanced)(Life: Cornucopia)(Former Habitation/Ruins: Skeletons)(Climate: Warm)

-Wolfron 18----Wolfron 18 also shows signs of having been an agricultural region, or possibly a wilderness preserve, that has since gone feral and returned to the wild.( Water coverage: Balanced)(Life: Cornucopia)(Former Habitation/Ruins: Uninhabited)(Climate: Temperate)

*Rocky Planetoids---These are former ‘nodes’ that have been rendered uninhabitable due to their distance from the binary stars, catastrophic collisions, or gravitational shear. These rocky bodies have been numbered and named as ‘Magon’ by the Wolf’s Path, who have designated these worlds as resource planetoids, with an eye towards mining them:

-Magon 1---Apparently once a massive agricultural area, this planet lost its water to flash evaporation when panLeysan broke up. Now only a few remains of plantation farms dot the surface, and frequent dense dust storms choke the atmosphere. ( Water coverage: Bone dry)(Former Habitation/Ruins: Outpost)(Climate: Hot)

-Magon 2----With no remaining water, and the atmosphere on the verge of precipitating into a solid, there’s little of interest on Magon 2.( Water coverage: Bone dry)(Former Habitation/Ruins: Skeleton)(Climate: Frigid)

-Magon 3---Another ‘dumbbell’ planet configuration, Magon 3 is showing signs of its two planetary ‘bells’ shearing apart; the central connecting stalk is wracked by increasingly violent earthquakes, and internal torsion heating is causing outbreaks of volcanic activity across the two bells. Shemarrian astrophsyicists give the planet another two thousand years at the current projected rate before the two bells separate and become independently-orbiting bodies. There is talk about launching an extensive exploration of the ruins on the planet before Magon 3 becomes too dangerous to safely investigate. ( Water coverage: Bone dry)(Former Habitation/Ruins: Busy)(Climate: Warm. increasing greenhouse effect)

-Magon 4---Apparently once a heavily settled region, Magon 4 is now a freeze-dried ruin. Adding to the dangers is the curious fact that despite its size, its gravity has reverted to something more akin to a far smaller asteroid. Combined with the unexpected collapse and splintering of its ‘stalk’, this has resulted a low-level ring or ‘overcast’ of debris slowly tumbling around the planet, and even rolling across its surface, treating visitors to the danger of being crushed by giant slowly-tumbling mountains of debris. This has the added effect of slowly grinding away the ruins on the planetoid. ( Water coverage: Badlands)(Former Habitation/Ruins: Settled)(Climate: Freezing)

-Magon 5---Another heavily settled planet, but now a planetary ghost town, sand dunes starting to bury the abandoned cities.( Water coverage: Desert)(Former Habitation/Ruins: Settled )(Climate: Hot)

-Magon 6---In its panLeysan days, this planet was a rather more temperate habitat and modestly settled. Today, only scattered ruins remain. ( Water coverage: Balanced)(Former Habitation/Ruins: Colony)(Climate: Frigid)

-Magon 7---Another ‘dumbbell’ planet configuration, Magon 7 is stable, but lifeless. Onlya few scattered ruins dot its surface, and the remains of what may have once been planetoid-wide forests suggest the misplaced node was once much more verdant. ( Water coverage: Badlands)(Former Habitation/Ruins: Outpost )(Climate: Hot)

-Magon 8----This node was evidentally very sparsely populated in the past, likely owing to its desert origins. The Shemarrians have investigated a few habitation sites, but have found no survivors, but plenty of evidence of massive battles found on the ever-shifting sands. A thinning atmosphere and dangerous levels of UV during the day cycle render the planet ill-suited for organic colonization. ( Water coverage: Desert)(Former Habitation/Ruins: Skeleton)(Climate: Warm)

-Magon 9---Magon 9 was heavily urbanized as panLeysan, but is now orbiting dangerously close to the two suns, its atmosphere virtually boiled away and its cities slowly melting under the onslaught of solar radiation ( Water coverage: Bone dry)(Former Habitation/Ruins: Busy)(Climate: Scalding)

-Magon 10---- Locked in ice and snow, this planet shows no signs of having been colonized in the past. Currently the Wolfriders have settled a few nomadic packs on its surface. ( Water coverage: Moist)(Former Habitation/Ruins: Uninhabited )(Climate: Cold)

-Magon 11--Magon II shows signs of having been a massive industrial zone, covered by factories and automated industrial complexes. However, apparently during panLeysan’s catastrophic breakup, the planet was flooded and much of the factory infrastructure damaged or destroyed. While liquid water still exists on Magon II’s surface, the rusting factories and breached refineries laying in the swamp-like water bodies have created a toxic brew that is deadly to anything that might consume the water. ( Water coverage: Moist)(Former Habitation/Ruins: Crowded )(Climate: Cool)

-Magon 12---Magon 12 is locked in a miles-thick crust of ice, its atmosphere frozen solid. ( Water coverage: Waterworld)(Former Habitation/Ruins: Uninhabited)(Climate: Freezing)

Planet(typical Leysan planetoid)
Type: Rocky Planet
Diameter: 4,250 miles
The ‘stalks’ emerging from/connecting the panLeysan spheroids were roughly 2,000 miles in diameter and 5,000 miles long/apart
Gravity: Earth normal
Temperature: Varies
Unusual/Special Features:
-Apparently artificial, or part of some massive structure evolved naturally under different laws of physics. Gravity behaves strangely around the planetoids, possibly due to a postulated neutronium-like ‘superfluid’ magma core running through the planets and their ‘stalks’.
Atmosphere: Apparently formerly terrestrial oxygen-nitrogen mix
Terrain: Varies, but roughly terrestrial
Hydrosphere: Varies, but terrestrial salt/brackish/fresh water.
Biosphere: Varies, but most of the life appears carbon-based and terrestrial-compatible.
Civilization: Apparently panLeysan played host to a highly advanced humanoid culture. Whether they were the original builders of the megastructure, or later settlers, and what role they played in its destruction, remains unknown.
Population: PanLeysan was apparently quite densely populated, with estimates ranging as high as 30 billion, but evidence in the asteroid belt composition suggests that many of the more densely populated planetary ‘nodes’ were obliterated outright, whether in the initial breakup of the panLeysan mega-structure or after its transition into the Three Galaxies.
Currently some 3 billion Wolf’s Path tribesmembers(about 20% of them Ne-Shemar) call the Leysan system home.
Technology: PanLeysan was apparently quite advanced, with evidence of interstellar travel.
Economy: PanLeysan’s economy seemed to be based on either trade or conquest.
The current Wolf’s Path economy is modest, as the Tribe settles in to colonize and exploit its find.
Wealth: PanLeysan society was apparently quite wealthy at its height, judging from the vast developments and what few opulent structures remain in the urban zones.
The Wolf’s Path are less materialistic, and would rate as modest in their wealth, their resources going to maintain their military power.
Government: Little is know of the panLeysan civilization’s government. Evidence suggests a possible military government.
The current post-panLeysan government is the Wolf’s Path tribal structure, with multiple tribal bands sending delegates to a heirarchy of councils ultimately reporting to an elected Alpha Female Elder/Wargoddess.

Seriously though, saved this off in my archives and will read through it when I have time. :ok:
Well done sir. You at least weren't sitting idle like m'self these past few weeks. :frust:

Thanks. Couldn't take TOO long a break from this thread or I might lose momentum.

That is a very awesome system. I hope we get more of these. I'm enjoying them.

And here I was about to suggest, after reading of a Random Encounter with vampire-Hunting Shemarrians in the latest edition of Vampire Kingdoms, that we look into Shemarrian/EShemarrian specialist anti-vampire gear. :D

Read it! Read it! Read it! The more we can get to contribute, the merrier! Whether you worship the Toaster, or root for big robot women, contributions are welcome!

Has anyone done any gravity based rail guns for the phase world based Shemarrians?

i seem to vaguely recall the main advantage to the gravity-based railguns was lesser recoil. frankly, the shemarrians are not the sort of people to worry about recoil :P

(i suppose it could be for neshemar/etc, but when you have something like 50% or more people using heavy weaponry, that's already pretty high...

I think another advantage of gravity based railguns is you can launch more specialized munitions without having a magnetic/ferrous sabot, or worry about the EM field of the rails causing havoc with any electronic based munitions. Also the gravity based ones could in theory launch far larger munitions. Most mass accelerator weapons of planetary bombardment in most sci-fi sources, such as the centari primus from babylon 5, uses a gravity based railgun type weapon to launch asteroids and other large masses to bombard planets to devastating effect.

Like anti-vampire wood rounds. Yeah, Phase World vampire hunters have the potential for being a bit more efficient with their high tech weapons.

The Shem-Rahn Lightning-lance uses gravitic accelerators.
Otherwise their specialized TW rounds would have the crystal matrix shatter well before striking the target. :D

I guess I'll try and work up some Shemarrian Gravity rail weapons for here.

the other advantage is true, this one not especially. you could easily build a gigantic regular railgun too.

and in any case, once you're talking about lobbing rocks down a planetary gravity well as big as Earth's, pretty much *anything* is a gravity-powered weapon.

Last session she sorta was kept in the background, but this coming Thursday she will be set free to do as she was born to do.
Re; Act as diplomatic envoy of both the DART and the EShemarr...and to bring down the rain of fire on any nasty things the group may encounter. :nuke:

My congrats also! That is always a great thing to hear! I'm formulating the weapons.

I'm going to try. I will try to keep them balanced. And I'll be happy to edit them if needed.

Hrrmmm... what to add?
I have a few idea's but, nothing concrete yet. Don't want the Hawky-mooners to come across as uberfraulins, sorta like the S.o.T. CS empire at the end of the seige :P

can REALLY do without that kinda thang.

Close. It's a pre-Rifts Airstream with a SAM launcher on top, towed by the Damnation Alley APC.

Or. if you'd rather, it's a McMansion that comes with reinforced concrete walls. pungee sticks, land mine landscaping and barbed wire, for those times you home really DOES need to be your castle.

Advanced Cultural Notes: (Shemarrian Star-nation) Hawkmoon Tribe of the 3-Galaxies
“It is said that the flapping of a moth’s wings can cause a hurricane to occur on the other side of a planet. What storm then is born by the movement of the Hawkmoon tribe on the wing?”
~ Tallesha Cogwerker; master-magitechnician, Wayfinder tribe.

The colony vessel drifted erratically as atmosphere continued to pour out of the semi-molten holes punched through its hull. The sight pleased Yboos Maloor, Jelias of the Republik Argosy battlecruiser Perfection in Battle. It was only 2 deci-cycles ago the impertinent tee-hugging cat-ape Kiirn scum had the audacity of claiming “freedom of travel” near to the Republik’s interests in the Thundercloud Galaxy.

“Hmmmph, a likely story.” The frog-faced bug-eyed Golgan burbled in its mother tongue. More likely, spies or worse, military advisors to the thrice damned Shing prides. Both species were felinoid after all.

The Jelias was interrupted from its delighted thoughts of a victory over the up-start primitives and the capture of the spies (those who had survived the initial disruptor bombardment that is) aboard the drifting wreck, by the agitated waving of one of it subordinate low-echelon plebes.

“Yes Frias…uuurrrrp… Ollooop? What is it?”

The Sensor Intercept Officer stopped its jig-like movements and bowed 5 times, as expected to a superior and pointed to the forward display.
“Mighty Jelias, greatest of Republik Argosy gene-stock, Lord of this vessel; this lowly insignificance of a Golgan but more evolved than other species has detected multiple energy signatures on an intercept course with our mighty undefeatable warship.”

Maloor waited until all proper protocols (after all, Golgans were civilized people and knew that protocols were more important than brevity) had been observed, and them motioned for the sensor images to be displayed. It nearly had its eyes pop out and lower jaw turn inside out when the approaching vessels were revealed on visual; its multiple stomach chambers clenched as the technical readouts of armour-mass, power output and acceleration curves were overlaid on the octet of warships.

“Ohhhh Forge-slag…I mean –buuurrmmmphooom- All hands, prepare to, uuuffffoom…Engage in evasive tactical maneuvering to gain advantage, that’s it; tactical advantage evasion. Execute!”
The rest of the Golgan and lower echelon non-Golgan crew hurried to their duty stations to initiate the Argosy’s most successful maneuver when faced with armed opponents with greater numbers; retreat at full flank speed.
~**~

Aboard the Stromdragon Solar-Glory, Fleet Matriarch Murneva Farsight leaned forwards in her command seat; antennae stroking the air and the currents of electronic information flowing from all her warriors aboard the warship. It was by fluke that her command had been only a half parsec away and able to receive the distress beacon call. Though technically the raiding group of Hawkwind destroyers & Rhinocron transports were en-route back to the Eyre-system after a successful strike against the hated Sploogorthians, they were still at 80% battle effective status. Farsight glanced at her Chieftenesses to either side and both nodded their raptor-faced shaped headdresses in silent agreement. Allies of a sister tribe were in danger; the Kiirn, soul-kin to both Horrorwood & Wolfpath.
Though the feline-human Kiirn were an ‘enlightened’ race and were not slouches in either technology or the mystic arts, they were still quite naive when it came to galactic politics and what the more unscrupulous power blocks considered “just actions”. Such as attacking one of their lightly armed exploration & colonization vessel when still outside of sovereign space. Outside of what the Golgan called theirs.

The Shemarrian Matriarch raised her hand and all aboard the Solar-Glory and the rest of the naval groups vessels went still in anticipation.
“Send a Hypercom message to the Republik listening post at Sigma 973. Message as follows; To all who would enslave, attack or otherwise endanger those who are allies of the Shemarrian people, know this. We see you. The Hawks of the moon see far and our wings carry us swiftly. You have sown the wind, now you shall reap the whirlwind. End message.”
~**~

As the tachyon pulse was sent outwards to the borders of Golgan space, the lone Argosy battle cruiser raised its shields and lit-off its sublight drives in a vain attempt to escape the coming retribution. Others in the Republikan Argosy had encountered the maniacal gynoids in recent Decca-cycles, and usually in the same circumstances. The Golgan & “allied” crew on the Perfection in Battle recognized the symbol painted on the hulls of the ships on attack vector.
A crescent moon of blue-silver, points down, crowned by golden wings. The spiritual leaders of the whole lot of crazed warrior women ‘borgs.
Hawkmoon.
The last thing the Golgan vessel’s crew heard before their universe was transformed into a storm of kinetic shot and plasma fire was just six words intercepted on a broadband signal from the dragon-shaped battleship.

“Bring down the rain of fire!”

After the Shemarrian Civil War, when both ARCHIE-3 and Hagen Leonovitch were ousted from the Cyberworks facility and assumed either slain in battle or escaped via random rift, the free tribes of the Shemarrian people were at a loss. What would become of them? The Sploogorthians still threatened the Eastern seaboard, the Coalition states were recovering from their near disastrous siege against Tolkeen and were again (insanely) contemplating expanding further into North-America and rumours of daemonic incursions far beyond the usual snatch and burn raid. Also, the tribes and un-affiliated Shemarrians yet to be activated / awakened were still separate entities, having their own agendas beyond freeing themselves from being playthings of the twisted Maker & Shaper. Before the fires and dust had even settled, Shemarsahd Firemane of the Hawkmoon gathered together all the High Matriarchs of the 10 tribes along with their wargoddesses.
She proposed an alliance of the Ten-Tribes beyond mutual non-aggression; a TRUE nation of the Shemarrian people, with each tribe having equal voice in a parliament. Further, since the Hawkmoon (and as they found out near the end of the civil war, untainted Skullcrusher) had managed to cross the dimensional barrier into the Tri-Galactic ‘verse, that each tribe select a portion of their peoples to travel through the veil and establish their own territories in the newly opened frontiers. Finally it was proposed by the Hawkmoon Matriarch that those remaining behind on Terra, do as they had already declared many months previously; maintain a protectorate on their re-birth world and combat the hated Sploogorthians and their minions, while also allowing those with peaceful intent to live within the borders of the Shemarrian nation under Tribal aegis.
Hours turned into days as the Tribal leaders and their advisors conferred and debated. Eventually it was agreed and the Unification Accord was signed on a tablet molychrome alloy. A full 30% of each tribe, with newly grown progen-chambers and nano-forges, boarded captured & repurposed Kittani / Kydian slave barges and activated the one-time dimensional drives built into each vessel by the Shem-rahn templar technicians.

Fate (or the forge), it would turn out, had a sense of the absurd.

The tribes did arrive in the Tri-Galactic dimension, and did establish their colonies. However, the dimensional drives encountered a chrono-temporal anomaly. The Diaspora were propelled nearly 2 decades backwards in time. Over the next 20 years subjective, the 10 tribes reconnected and sent back representatives to 1 year after their departure date from Terra. Needless to say their spark broken sisters were overjoyed to hear that they had NOT sent their kin to oblivion, but instead had founded a young but very powerful inter-galactic nation. The Shemarrian Star Nation and the Unified Shemarrian Tribes of Terra, under the guidance of Shemarsahd & Goodbones (by unanimous vote of BOTH tribal conclaves) began to prosper and consolidate.

As written earlier, the Hawkmoon tribe are the keepers of the chimerical ‘Lore of the Shemarrian Peoples’ and the foundation of the Nations of the Ten Tribes. Under their guidance, the different natures & personality quirks of the various tribes work together to strengthen the borders of their scattered systems, conduct trade and legal procedure, and further the cultural unity and diversity of the Nation as a whole. In times of war, it is the Hawkmoon who act as over-all strategic command; allocating resources and tribal warriors as the situation demands. Every Terran year, the leaders send a representative to the Hall-of-light inside a massive space station floating in neutral space between all 3 galaxies. Even the Terran Union sends 10, one from each tribe, to sit in on policy decisions and to exchange cultural ideas. Though the most prolific and well established of ‘awakened’ tribes, the Hawkmoon do not dictate unilaterally; feeling that each of the 10 must find their own way in the megaverse and not be chained to one-mind ever again. That being said, most times it is to the bird-totem that the others look for guidance, even the Wayfinder & bellicose Bloodrider.

In the age of the Star Nation, the Hawkmoon have mostly settled into dual space and planet dwelling peoples. This particular tribe enjoys rocky mountainous worlds, preferably with atmospheres so they can feel the wind and hear it through the wings of their mounts or they wings upon their backs. Space based enclaves tend towards medium sized space stations that are like works of modern art; looping ribbons and hollowed spires off a central disc, reminiscent of the province / state sized world-ships some Elf variant races create. Inside, open air-high ceilinged domes and passageways radiate from the core-hub which contains power generators and the support systems all space stations require.
When visitors are allowed into the Hawkmoon enclaves they have equal chance of encountering NeShemarr in various degrees of biological completeness, as they are of any of the “true” Shemarrian peoples. Though not as nature oriented as the Horrorwood, Wolf-path or Cobra tribes, the Hawkmoon have an appreciation for the living, and so do try to keep viable bio & ecco-spheres in the places they live, if for no other reason than to comfort their NeShemarr and organic allies.

The average Hawkmoon member is a combination scholar, spiritually-aware neo-pagan and consummate professional warrior. Almost like the fabled Shao-lin monks of ancient China and/or how the Knights Templar were rumored to be (before their persecution; which draws ironic parallels). These Shemarrians have fallen quite far from the original personality template given to them by Maker & Shaper, rarely giving in to battle-lust or barbaric tests of strength. That is not to say they do not fight, and fight well. Unlike their Skullcrusher cousins, who charge into combat with grim and brutal will, or the Silvermoon who declare intent and act in chivalric arrogance, the Hawkmoon are consummate professionals.
Battle doctrine is based on 3 principles:
1) Tactical & Strategic Intelligence gained through various assets. If not in combined actions with other tribes, the Hawkmoon rely on their aerial warmounted squads for eye-in-the-sky recon, and their males for ground based scouting and electronic warfare (which also masks the actions of the already noted aerial corps).
2) Allocation of aerospace & terrestrial assets. Flight-capable warmounts and winged / flight-pack equipped infantry conduct airstrikes and harassment of the enemy air units, while Monstrex & heavy-weapon ground forces move in. In extreme cases, orbital artillery assets may be called in if no other alternative is found.
3) Precision. This can be summed up in a common saying among Hawkmoon warriors; “We are not Bloodrider or Skullcrusher; firing madly into the enemy lines, heedless of the ruin that our lance and gun and missile create. Like the Shrike and Hawk, we bide our time until the prey is positioned just so. THEN, and only then do we strike. One hit, one kill. Only when needed should we bring down the rain of fire.”

While still excellent ground fighters, the Hawkmoon warriors have grown to excel in both aerial combat with both warmount & aero-space fighter, and space-naval warfare, with only the Bloodriders coming close in daring and skill in fighter combat and the Darkwaters in naval tactics. These gynoids have embraced the sky so much, that they have nearly 80% of their warmounts megaverse-wide as aerial units. Even the Monstrex have limited zero-g maneuvering capabilities and atmospheric long-jumping (and even in some cases, gliding) systems.
Finally, the Hawkmoon have embraced technomancy whole-sparked; first when newly ‘Awakened’ when they found they could utilize the strange devices and war gear off their fallen enemies from Atlantis, then when they made diplomatic relations with first the Shem-rahn and then later Lazlo. Only the Wayfinder tribe utilize technomancy more, and then only because of that tribes founding. A full 40% of all Hawkmoon gynoids, vehicles and war gear have at least minor TW enhancement, if not being fully magi-tech from day 1.

Relations:
The Hawkmoon tribe is the most open to outsiders of all the ten tribes. They count among their outside allies the Shem-ma-nah-ren Shem-rahn templars and matriarchy, the city of Lazlo on Terra, the Warphunters & Hunter-Guardian guilds of Motavia in the Algol system, Kiirn and the Catyr. Among the tribes, they share close ties to Wayfinder, Silvermoon and Darkwaters.
*The Darkwaters are valued trading partners and staunch allies in space-based operations, though the Matriarchs of the Hawkmoon wish their sisters of the void would not be so…distant.
*Silvermoon artisans and “paladins” are always welcome at the Eyries and council halls, though most Hawkmoon twist their antennae in unconscious amusement at the righteous (some even feel “self-righteous”) stiffness and bombast of their gleaming kindred. A friendly rivalry exists between both ‘moon’ tribes, with the Hawks allowing their silver sisters to think they “…are the most pure and noble to the ideals of Shemarr and the 10”; a harmless delusion that the Lore-keepers of the Eyries indulgently let the Silvermoon keep on believing.
*Wayfinders, though nosey and curious to a fault, are also the moral compass and balance that the Hawkmoon listen too. Though not born of Shemarr & the Lightbringer, and awakened outside of the soul-sparks of the Ecotroz, matriarchs of the Hawkmoon Eyries always take council from the seers and sages from the “Finders of the way”, knowing that true wisdom can come from without as well as from within. That and the magi-tech born tribe have the most wonderful toys.
*Over the many years, relations with the Wolfs-path have become very cordial, though there is still a feeling of intense rivalry between Wolf & Hawk; occasionally sparking isolated brawls between young warriors & NeShemarr from both tribes. However, when the war drums sound, Wolf and hawk hunt as one, and woe betide the poor fools who have attracted their wrath. With Hawkmoon warriors taking dominating the skies, and the Wolfs-path hunting their prey through the brush and fields, forest and underground flushing out the enemy into the open for their aerial kin, very few opponents to the tribes last long when the two fight as one.
*The Horrorwoods are a valued trade partner for biological resources and refined warmounts and cyber-beasts. When the gynoid druids require aerial surveying of a potential new preserve, they are quick to call on the Hawkmoon aerial corp. to assist.
*Bloodriders. They are… well, they are sister Shemarrians, and are excellent shock troops when the Nation needs to go to war. Most Hawkmoon tribe members tend to respectfully give the Bloodriders a decent amount of personal space. Otherwise, in all likelihood, said Hawkmoon may be goaded or cajoled into a test of daring and “passion” that could be very bad for their physical wellbeing at the end…and just as likely end with a stern and verbose scolding from the Hawkmoon little-sister Spinsters as they are repaired in a nano-forge.
*Ghost riders have always been an enigma to the other tribes; the Hawkmoon being no exception. While extremely useful in intelligence gathering and covert stealth operations, the non-Ecotroz Shemarrians are usually treated like somewhat unbalanced but talented family members, who are welcome to visit the Eyries, but only for short stays. The Ghostriders have no problems with this arrangement; they know they’re bent and eccentric and take no offense…after all, what can you expect from a bunch of religious types with spare energy-state-lifeforms inside of THEIR heads?
*Also on the list of “charming yet odd relations”, the Sapphire Cobra tribe are like relations that found religion in some obscure cult and indulge a little bit too much in hedonistic pursuits. That being said, the Cobras are greeted as loyal friends despite their ‘kink’, and are highly prized as an alternate view-point into the mythos of the Shemarrian people. For their part, the Sapphire Cobra strive to help their conservative bird-loving sisters to lighten up and expand their frame of reference in the megaverse.
*Lastly there is the Skullcrusher tribe. Even so many years after (subjective) the Civil War, relations are strained between the two tribes. Most if not all the Hawkmoon are willing to forgive, though not forget, the persecution they faced from the Skullcrushers. They know that the death-bringers were acting under the influence of malign powers. The past is the past and the future should be embraced. From Reconciliation to present day, the Hawkmoon still pray daily for the torment of their grim kindred to be eased, and for peace-of-spark to find them.

Composition Notes:
*Spinster Tinkers- All “Little sisters” in the Hawkmoon Eyries are trained in the management and use of the Progen-chamber and nano-forges. Also a full 25% are trained starship techs (+15% to applicable skills).

*Valkari- About 1 in 10 Psi-shamnesses become Valkari in the Hawkmoon tribe.

*Males- The male Shemarrians have higher place within the society of the Eyries. They are invaluable for guarding and maintaining the record halls, and as forward observers for planetary combat operations; providing fire control for airstrikes and as E.W. assets.

*NeShemarr- The Hawkmoon tribe was the first to begin the practice of adopting and converting foundlings and the recently dead into their ranks. The practice still is maintained in the SSN, but now volunteer / adopted individuals are among the ranks of the NeShemarr alongside the ‘reclaimed’

*Acolytes- The Pariah variant is in charge of teaching the NeShemarr and recently progen born members of the Eyries. Acolytes are also highly regarded as medics for the Shemarrian’s biological allies, and as record-keepers in the archives of the SSN. Given time and inclination, an acolytes can petition to undergo the trial of the warrior to be ‘upgraded’ into one of the warrior caste, though most remain content to be the hands and minds that keep the Eyries running while their sisters engage in battle.

*Celestials- A new variant that was originally thought to be a one of a kind aberration, now appearing in small but consistent numbers. The first Celestial was ‘born’ to a human male and the first EctrozShemarrian to be progen-born. The couple engaged in the ritual of progen together as the consummated their relationship physically as well. The result was surprising to say the least. The Shemarrian that exited the progen chamber was of the Berserker type with the hair and “attributes” (albeit smaller than average to the Shemarr) of a female, but had bio-mechanical angel-wings (with micro AG coils in the spine, feet and shoulders), and the tattoos of a male-pattern Shemarr. On later inspection it was revealed that the angel-type was very much like how angels manifest… it was hermaphroditic.
Though uncommon, these “two-sparked” EctrozShemarrians do spontaneously appear, and for some reason only within the Hawkmoon tribe. Exhibiting “natural born” magitech enhancements, and an instinctual knack for daemon fighting, the Celestials are one of the elite, unique members of the Eyries.

Notable Technologies:
Most of the rites of upgrade, as has been discussed in earlier entries, focus on flight systems and raptor motifs. Flight capable wings, enhanced vision and telescopic cyber-eyes, micro-radar built into the forehead and antennae, and antigravity coils are all common upgrades / Progen “gifts”.

Technowizardry focus on flight, space maneuvering and daemon fighting.

Still a few blanks to fill in, but that should cover the gist of it.

*EcoS-K-28 Draxos Heavy Aerial Warmount
http://i408.photobucket.com/albums/pp164/taalismn/img294copy.jpg

“You ever seen heavy armor plate run like sand? That’s what I saw meters-thick marcuge metal that was meant for shrugging off proximity nuclear blasts do...the ‘crushers just parked their dragon-sleds over the shielding and rained hell on it. The stuff held for a minute or so, and then ...well, the Warleader made good on her oath to drown the necroloving man-demons in their own blood after that.”

The Draxos is a new War Mount that has appeared in the ranks of the Skullcrusher Tribe. Its introduction, so soon after the emergence of the young WarGoddess Nerys Night-Sunder to prominence in the Skullcrusher leadership, suggests that the new War Mount, like the recently-debuted Tartog Battleship, is part of Night-Sunder’s efforts to revitalize the pride of the Skullcrushers and secure the favor of her Tribeskin.
The Draxos bears a superficial resemblance in configuration to the Hawkmoon Axyridis(or ‘Shemarrian Griffin’) in that it is a winged quadraped, but the Draxos is MUCH more massive with its weight of shielding and ordnance. The Draxos is pure unadulterated firepower; it’s essentially a flying gunship meant to terrorize and pulverize the Shemarrians’ enemies. Relatively slow in normal flight, it is heavily armored and armed, meant to loiter over a battlefield, soaking up damage, while raining hell on enemies below.
The Draxos sports a heavily armored chest or thorax section concealing a battery of heavy energy cannons, while a pair of Shatter cannons are mounted in the wingroots. Towards the back of the Draxos are two large capacity short-range missile launchers. In addition to its ranged attacks, the Draxos can claw and bite like any other Warmount. The broad back holds enough space for the rider and a half-dozen armored Shemarrian warriors, although they are exposed to the elements and not fully enclosed. The massively-armored ‘wings’ serve to shield both the riders and the additional weaponry on the main body. The Draxos mounts very heavy armor and is able to survive considerable damage, being hardened against even close-proximity nuclear strikes.
The Draxos first debuted on Night-Sunder’s birthworld of Carnaphade, where the first of the new Warmounts were used to crack open the fortified strongholds of the cyber-extremists who held sway there. It has since been seen on other Skullcrusher fronts in support of their troops. The Draxos has yet to appear in any great numbers, given the expense in terms of materials and energy needed to make each individual one. It is currently deployed with senior or elite combat formations on the front lines of the Skullcrushers’ campaigns against the Splugorth.
The Draxos remains exclusive to the Skullcrushers.

Also has motion and heat detection, built-in radar( 60 mile range) and other standard power armor-equivalent systems. Additional/special sensors may be built in by the creating Spinsters or at the behest of individual riders/owners.

*Bionic Cybernanite Repair Systems---ALL Draxos have the same bionic nanotech repair system that the Ecotroz Shemar have refitted themselves with, and which is the standard among NeShemar as well. These systems repair 4d6 MD per hour, and can repair 400 MDC before needing material stocks to convert to MD repair material.

Weapons Systems:
1) ’SkullShatter’ Cannon(2)---This is a heavy weapon based on the Wolf’s Path ‘Goddess Hammer’ cannon, which was essentially several Shemarrian carbine rail guns bundled into a gatling gun arrangement for rapid fire. The Skullcrushers, after much effort, managed to acquire the schematics for the weapon so they could make their own, but also went about producing an even heavier long-barreled version using standard 6000-series rail guns instead of the shorter 4000-series carbines. The resulting half-ton weapon is too heavy for individual foot soldiers to carry, but it can be hefted by Skullcrusher Necriants, or vehicle/War Steed-mounted. The Draxos mounts TWO of the weapons in its wingroots, giving it the ability to lay down hellacious damage that can reduce tanks , robots, and fortifications to waste in seconds.
During the reduction of fortifications on Carnaphade, observers described the effect of the paired heavy autocannon on meters-thick heavy armor as ‘liquification’.
Range: 6,000 ft
Damage: 2d6x10 MD per round, 6d6x10 MD for a three shot burst, 1d6MDx100 for a six shot burst(!)
Rate of Fire: ECHH
Payload: 820 shot drum per cannon.

2) Chest Plasma Cannons---Mounted behind sliding plates in the chest is an array of plasma cannons that fairly bristle from the thorax of the Draxos when deployed. The cannon array has a 45-degree arc of fire, allowing the cannon to be ‘fanned’ over an area. A favorite tactic of Skullcrushers is to hover over a target and barrage-fire directly under them in the so-called ‘hell rain’ attack; few opponents can stand up for long under the fiery deluge.
Range: 4,000 ft
Damage: 2d4x10 MD per single blast, 8d4x10 MD for all four cannons firing simultaneously.
Rate of Fire: ECHH
Payload: Effectively Unlimited

3) Short Range Missile Launchers(2)---Mounted at the rear of the Draxos, behind the passengers and to either side, shielded by the wings, are two short range missile launchers.
Range: Varies by Missile Type(Short Range)
Damage: Varies by Missile Type(Short Range)
Rate of Fire: Volleys of 1-8
Payload: 32 SRMs each launcher, total of 64

4) (Optional) Underwing Hardpoints(4-6)---The Draxos can mount underwing ordnance if so desired.
a) Mini-Missiles---9(3x3 shot tubes) per hardpoint

b) Short Range Missiles----Three per hardpoint

c) Medium Range Missiles---Two per hardpoint

d) Rotary Laser Cannon---Identical to those available to the Monst-Rex
Range: 2,000 ft
Damage: 1d6x10+4 MD per rapid-fire burst
Rate of Fire: ECHH
Payload: Effectively Unlimited

e) Plasma Ejector---Identical to those available to the Monst-Rex.
Range: 1,600 ft
Damage: 4d6 MD per shot
Rate of Fire: ECHH
Payload: Effectively Unlimited

f)Bombs---Up to 750 lbs of ordnance can be mounted per hardpoint
*250-lb Bomb----2d4x10 MD to 50 ft blast radius
*500-lb Bomb----4d4x10 MD to 60 ft blast radius
*750-lb Bomb----4d6x10 MD to 65 ft blast radius
Payload: One bomb(up to 750 lbs)
Note: The Draxos can engage in divebombing maneuvers; doing so means that the Warsteed approaches the target in a dive(45-degrees or better), releases its bomb(at 5,000 ft or less distance from the target), and then pulls out. A successful dive-bombing attack requires a Piloting roll at -10%, but the dropped ordnance is +2 to strike, and gets a +2d4 MD for the extra speed assist in penetration.

Programming:
The Ecotroz have installed robotic AIs, then infected the matrix with a low-level Ecotroz sentience. The Draxos has a personality that has been described as ‘vulture-like’ by outsiders; it is quiet and patient, and willing to wait/loiter for long periods of time between combats/kills. Once it senses imminent battle, the creature is all too willing to pounce and kill mercilessly. The Draxos are often rewarded for good combat by being allowed for feed on battlefield wreckage, so part of their eagerness in battle is hunger. Its metallic screeching during battle has been described as nerve-wracking to anybody except a Skullcrusher; a squadron-wing of them chorusing their impatience to feed is a death-dirge to the enemies of the Shemar.
Typically has the same basic programming as for the Monstrex.
The Ecotroz entity can also pick up one Secondary skill at levels 2, 6, and 12 of experience, though the nature of the Draxos’ intelligence and design is such that it is limited to skill selections from Technical: Language(understanding) and Lore, Espionage(Detect Ambush, Detect Concealment), Wilderness(Track Humanoids, Track Animals, Hunting, Identify Plants and Fruits)
Actions/Attacks Per Melee: 5
Initiative +2 (+1 from the Ecotroz entity for a total of +3)
Dodge +1 on land, +4 in flight
Strike +1 (+2 w/ ranged weaponry)
Roll +2
Bite 3d6 MD
Blunt Claw Strike 2d6 MD
Claw Strike 5d6 MD
Power Claw Strike(2 attacks) 1d6x10 MD
Pounce/Drop-Stomp 2d4x10 MD

Note: The Ecotroz intelligence fragment inhabiting the ‘bot gives the Draxos an aura and behavior more befitting a sentient being than a robot.

The Ecotroz fragment does occasionally need sleep/rest...though they only need 2 hours of rest/meditation per 24 hours...they can push this, going without for as many days as they have I.Q. points, but will have to go dormant for 4d6 hours after such exertion.

Note also that the Ecotroz-possessed ‘bot can infect other bots with the Ecotroz viral-entity, by bite or sustained touch(takes 3 attacks).

Variants:
*EcoS-K-28B---This variant does away with the ability to carry passengers on its back, instead adding a large hump immediately aft of the rider’s saddle, holding a forcefield generator that provides 400 MDC of protection.
