Characters and Legendary Last Words

Unread post by Astral Pantheon »

These are a few of the better ones my group with different characters have said just before their characters' doom. Feel free to add your own.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Glitterboy: "My Suit is at 100%, I'll wade through the lava and...."

Shifter: "I'll just stop off at Hades to grab a Demon Horn..."

Mind Melter: "I try to Dominate the Vampire Intelligence..."

CS Grunt: "I'll skin that Adult Dragon with my Vibro-Knive..."

Ley Line Walker with Giant (Spell): "My arm got blow off; No problem, it will regenerate!! Wait, when did I cast this spell??..."

Mega-Juicer: "Your just a Crazy, theres No way you could beat me...."

Hatchling Dragon in human disguise: "I'll scare the CS Soldiers and transform into my true form..."

Priest of Light to a Demon Lord: "I bet you my Soul, my powers of Light will defeat your powers of darkness..." **Side Note: The other members of the party retreated as soon as she said that**

Temporal Wizard: "Lets raid the Center again, will get more the second time through..."

and one of my favorites:

Merc- staring at a nuclear bomb (suitcase version) with on 2 seconds frozen on the screen after deactiving the device: "Ok, I'll reactivate the bomb and then try to add time to it, So we can use it later..."

I can think of a couple I've heard in my games;

Thief in a group fighting a Witch: "It's a freakin' cat... what harm could it possibly do?"

Mutant in HU: "APS Plasma? What's so dangerous about a guy made of blood?"

Same mutant... different scenario: "I can Control Radiation too..." *turns on a microwave oven* "... see..."

Elf Longbowman on a battlefield between the Eastern Terrotory and the Wolfen Empire: "Anybody can speak Wolfen... watch... " *turns toward the charging Wolfen troops and starts randomly howling, barking and whining*

HU Mystic with a bomb with about 1 minute left on the timer: "Screw it... I pull the green wire."

*EDIT* Just thought of one more that happened a couple weeks back;

Hyperion Juicer after rolling a 1 to dodge a volley of Md Range missiles on his Tarantula Jump Bike: "Aw crap....."

A great horned dragon hatchling fellow PC going up against a maxi-man ogre: "what...? I'm a Great Horn! These guys can't beat me..." she was deemed comatose within fifteen seconds and had to taken from the fight before things got worse... Would've died otherwise.

Wampyr character of mine: "I'm dead already... What was tha-*thunk*..." *guy takes a Nat 20 .50 caliber anti-undead sniper round to the chest and would've been toasted if not for timely medical attention from another PC involved in removing the bullet...

A Wizard talking to a Minotaur: "Do you know how much Your horns are worth?..."

A thief: "We can sneak past the Royal Guards..."

The Giant helping everyone climb a mountain with a rope (but hates Trolls)
GM: From your viewpoint you see a band of trolls heading up the...
Giant with rope still attached: "I'll jump off the cliff for a suprise attack..."
{Note he did cleave one in two before hitting the ground...really hard.}

and another favorite (Had help GM this one):

The Group was playing a band of powerful (8th lvl +) warlocks on the side of tolkeen. The "ambushed" a elite Kill Company of CS. The warlocks beat the CS with freezing cold and 30 feet plus of snow. The Leader of the Warlocks said to the CS, "What are you Going to do now versus the Kings of Cold."
** {Other GM NPCing as Officer}CS Officer, "OK, boys Plasma Rifles on Max..."

Just recalled this one. Old AD&D a Anti-paladin and captured all but one of the Group (a female cleric).

Anti-Paladin: "All I want is your Resurrection Rod and I'll let them all go. But if don't I'll throw this switch and watch them drop into that pool of acid below. The rod or your friends."

Fighter of the group yells from the cage, " Just give him the dang rod, ( I kid you not, this is what he said with the party, noding their heads in agreement) ,YOU still own us for putting up with your stupid quest to help the mountain villagers and made us give Our gold to build that ransack of a healing temple. So, get us out of here Already!!!"

Cleric: "Throw the Switch...."

Instant karma and the Anti-Paladin even let her leave his lair without a fight. --I thought she deserved at least that--

While the rest of the group was planing an attack my friend walks up to the Dragon, draws his sword, and says "Flee now and I shall spare your life!" :nh: one breath of fire later and a bad saving throw, friend is standing there in his skivys "... umm on second thought..."

The Assassin who is afraid of the dark(I know its sort of an oxymoron) says as he's romoving the Golden statue from the Protective Circle "What's the worst that could happen?!"

Spoiler:
Upon removing the statue the Assassin went blind and was left by his party whimpering in a corner so the could finish the mission

Legendary because the player was dumb enough to look though a door with recently (i.e. the previous melee) made bullet holes and the bad guys were still alive.
Player: Hoff takes advantage of the situation to take a quick peek through the many holes in the cockpit door.

GM: The first thing Hoff notices as he peeks though the holes in the door is the barrel of a pistol pointed his way, then a flash!!!!!!

Player: "HEY!"

GM: HEY! is thing last thing Corporal Kirk Hoff says as he begins to jump back away from the door as the FLASH he sees becomes darkness...... Susie watches in horror as the upper right side of Hoff’s head is blown off, she (and everything else in the rear of the compartment) is covered in brain tissue, blood, and bits of bone.

Hoff’s body then flips end over end in the zero gravity and slams into the rear bulkhead with a thud, still clutching his pistol.

No 'last words' in this one but still a pretty cool death.
Player Typed (knowing the missile was going to kill them cause it was a nat 20): Byron was pleased as he shot out a missile causing sympathetic detonations amongst some of the other incoming missiles. His attention distracted by the Zent he was shooting at, he only caught a glimpse of the missile that killed him as it rose up from the ground directly in front of his Spartan. He only had just enough time to close his eyes before accepting his fate, finally finding peace after living for so long with nothing but war.

GM narrative: It happens to be a proton torpedo, which works on the principle of matter/antimatter annihilation (i.e. proton/antiproton annihilation) simply put the Spartan mecha (and it’s pilot) is reduced to basic protons. All that is left is a 300 ft spherical depression in the deck, and unlike the plasma missiles there isn’t even a fire.

During a Robotech Campaign a while back the players were flying their VF-1As in the Zentraedi control zone in South America and were ambushed by a squad of 6 full loaded Female Power Armors.

One of the players, after dodging, evading or shooting down most of the missiles from a pair of FPAs that had locked onto him, transforms to battloid, proceeds to grab the 1st FPA in mid air to use it as a mecha shield against the other right above the treeline. The 2nd FPA fires a volley of 12 missiles and rolls a natural 20.

His Response.. "I simo!" and launched the last of his missiles toward the 2nd FPA also rolling a natural 20.

The resulting fireball, destroyed both FPAs, his veritech, leveled a 1 square mile area of the amazon rain forest as all the remaining missiles (there were 36 left in the 1st FPA's launchers) detonated upon their destruction and left a crater 100ft wide & 20 ft deep!

Spoiler:
After having him successfully roll for half damage, it was still too great and destroyed his Veritech. I let the player think he was destroyed until the other players finished the fight and they noticed a very faint beacon signal coming from underground. As he was in battloid mode.. his auto eject sequence had in fact worked but had staked him in the middle of the crater and had buried him 10 feet underground. While he didn't technically die, he had been knocked out, suffered multiple broken bones (both legs, right arm, 5 ribs and a skull fracture, a severe concussion and earned him the call sign "Nova" from then on.

These aren't last words of a PC but of an NPC Villain.
Preface: The PC's are about 4th level or so. This was back in the days of having only Rifts Main Book. They have a LLW, Glitter Boy Pilot (and GB), a Juicer, and an Operator operating a CS UAR-1 walker modified to be used by himself. The player of the Juicer has not quite mastered playing in character and some might call him a...Chicken S&*^They come across a CS patrol. 3 Grunts (PVT) and a Military Specialist LT. A battle ensues and the grunts are killed. The armour of the LT is nearly destroyed. They've been in the area for quite a while and have yet to see the CS in the area.

LT: Stop! Everyone Stop!
Operator: Cease Fire Men, we can take him alive and get some use out of him yet.
LT: Lay down your arms, remove your armour and surrender. I have an entire ARMORED DIVISION coming to back me up.
Juicer: *speaking to GM* I put my weapons down, take off my helmet and put my hands up
Party: *facepalm*
Glitter Boy: I finish this Dead Boy off. "You have an ENTIRELY BAD POKER FACE" *Fires: Natural 20
GM: You blow him to tiny bits
Glitter Boy: I point my gun at the Juicer "Stop being a *****"
There should be a specific sub-forum of the Rifts forum dedicated to the only hope for salvation of the human race, the Coalition States.

15th Level Wizard, 10th level diabolist, who's facing the party, and not knowing what's being himd: "Dragon? What dragon?!"... as the ANCIENT great horned opens wide...

10th level summoner who didn't bother with a lore check when using a name he found in a book "This dude looks like Santa, how tough could he be?"

1st edition- Experienced player with a group who've never played before "Don't worry, I've been through Gersidi TONS of times.. this place is a cinch"... the party never made it in. They died outside. TPK.

In a party FULL of characters that all had around 30 levels of experience "It's ONE priest. Seriously, how tough can he be?"... not realizing that he was a 15th level priest (of an OO), 15th level witch of the old ones, 15th level palladin, and a level 15 Wizard... we had caught up to him MUCH earlier than the GM expected....

That was the same player that in a RIFTs game didn't know one of the other PCs was a shapechanged dragon. And started talking about how the next dragon they found, he was going to experiment with turning various parts of it into magical items to boost his power...

While the party slept that night, he went to go make water... and somehow stumbled off a cliff 4 miles away from the campsite...

Me: "I really liked this character I rolled up tonight. I can't wait until he levels up, he's gonna be awesome..." *BOOM* GM had an infatuation with Magic: the Gathering and my PC's 40 MDC armor did not survive the first round of combat in his tragically short life against a "goblin grenade".

Great Horned Dragon hatchling (his name is Ryan) standing next to his Maxi-Killer buddy (Player named Tony). A group of cyborgs come around the corner firing plasma blasts at the Dragon.

The following line has become immortalized at our table...

"I parry with Tony"

Tony was laughing so hard he didn't care that his character just ate plasma.

"Trust me, I know what I'm doing" - several players in many situtations

"doesn't our spell caster have a cold, should we really let him be casting spells?"

"it's just a bunny!"

"I'm an ogre!" kick fairy hole. gm rolls, "okay 400 fairies come out" ogre "their only fairies, what one point of damage...I'm an ogre!" Gm picks up D20... puts D20 down, picks up percentiles "I'll roll to see how many hit" (40%) 400*40%= 160 Gm "you are now an ogre who resembles a cactus... a dead cactus"

Here are a few from our group.

The GM to my wife: The enemy tosses a limpet mine at you (she's wearing power Armor, it's a Robotech campaign).
My wife: Ohh theysa wants to plays kick the can!
So she kicks the mine, and guess what it sticks! So her character is now hopping around trying to get it off.
And my character the hero that I am, jumps through a door way and shuts the blast door!

In a Palladium Fantasy game,

The gm: You can see the cave entrance, outside of it are some very realistic statues. As you enter you see many more statues, in varying poses. Up ahead you see two glowing eyes staring in your direction, what are you doing?
Players: We stare back, and trying to figure out what it is.
GM: Are you sure?
Players: Yes we are.
GM: Roll to save vs. magic.
Needless to say my friend Rob did not make It, luckily I did.

In my PF game.
Me: The witch of the Old Ones starts to cast a spell.
My wife: I cast the biggest F#$%^ing wall of ice possible!

Out of five player characters, only my wife and the other warlock survived.

I ran a Rifts game once where I had a full conversion 'borg, dragon, crazy, a cyberknight, and a regular merc. They were doing a dead drop for something (I can't remember now) and wanted to give them live explosives set to blow on opening the case.

The Problem? They had 10 pounds of Type 4 Fusion Blocks and no one (and I mean NO ONE) had the Demolitions skill. The guy trying to set up the explosives asked if he could still try to arm the explosives without the skill. I told him that to use a skill untrained was a strait ability roll under his appropriate ability (Intelligence in this case and his was a 10).

Player: I am going to roll for it anyway.
Everyone else: :O
Player: I rolled a 99 :O

All 10 pounds blew and the only survivor was the one smart enough not to be there in the first place.

Not really last words, but...

My gnome thief was scouting ahead of the party. He opened up a door and startled some orcs, then closed it, and walked back (whistling) to the rest of the party. They were not amused.

lol, I had nearly forgotten the "Limpet mine incident," but the Gorgon in the cave? That is one of my classics.

BTW, since this is my first post in a long time, I wanted to say I'll start checking back on the forums now and then, war permitting... :bandit:

My Veritech pilot with his finger on the trigger to launch 5 RMS-1 Reflex Warheads at near point blank ranger, staring some guy outside his cockpit down. Last words, "Make my day." 5 Reflex Warheads later the whole campaign was nuked. Everyone dead, I kind of feel bad about it looking back, nuking the GM's campaign to ashes, but seriously, who calls a guys bluff when he's got 5 RMS-1s aimed at you? They should have backed off.

In a D&D campaign I ran.

"Don't worry, they're just Kobolds."

Later, same campaign.

"Don't worry, they're just Goblins."

Still later, same campaign.

"OH MY GOD! The Kobolds and Goblins are working together!"

A different game...

"I sneak into the Chimera's lair and try to get behind it."

"The first path we took was trapped but they probably didn't trap the back way in..."

In a Rifts game...

"I see Zeus through the portal? Cool, I shoot him!"

"They're firing missiles at me? I dodge into the building beside me."

And not a final words quote but cool regardless.

"I parry."

"With what?"

"My chainsaw!"

I had a character in my group that had grown rather fond of an NPC I had with the group for a time.
The player group was protecting a small town from an invading force due to the main enemy wishing ultimate power from a Djinn, this was at the time my GMing was beyond the point of ridiculousness and into the realm of stupid.

Anyway the player was a home brewed occ that was very overpowered. He had on armor that had 250 MDC and a 200 MDC force field. It was down to around 200 MDC on the Armor when the NPC's armor was torn to shreds by an attacker.

They survived that skrimish and the player said "I give my armor to (insert NPC name here)."
He could do this because the OCC had genetically grafted cyber armor with 150 MDC under his skin, unfortunately it had an AR of 18 because it didn't cover the whole body...or something. Like I said it was a terrible OCC and has since been scrapped completely.

That was the last that character was ever heard of, and the NPC still died due to the massive amounts of enemies that stormed the front gate they were holding.
Shoot or Die, it's the name of the game.

Actually, I just thought of an even better one, my bad.

The player group had just run away from a Secondary Vamp they had pissed off and was hiding out in their safe house when they heard a knock at the door. The veteran player was telling the new guy not to open the door. They argued for a second and the new guy says "I ready my gun and open the door" he fails initiative and gets dragged out by the neck, all the while the vet screaming at him for basically killing off their characters. Luckily the newbie was playing a burster, and with a slight nudge from God (read GM) realised he should throw on his fire eruption and get the vamp off and away, which worked. Not really last words, but an honorable mention

During an interstellar chase:
GM 'They're gaining on you!"
Player 'I cast Full Throttle'
GM 'Who in the party is strapped in?'

During a murder mystery just before the victim is murdered by gas.
GM 'Do you have to breathe?'
Player gulp, 'yes'
GM 'The rest of the party hears a loud THUNK' :?

Same murder mystery, different group
GM 'Roll perception"
Player '2, why'
GM 'Never mind, Misty walks over to the window and opens it'
Player 'I fire a warning shot'
(The room was filled with natural gas and the gun was PLASMA)
I do believe in Narnia.

My combat cyborg with an irational fear of being alone waiting for the signal to raid a CS supply base.
"I pull out Max, my turtle, from in my thigh storage compartment and talk to him to help me pass the time while you two go "Scouting". I will be listening to the radio and keeping an eye out for the explosions just in case." (Please note that I am mounted on tank treads for better combat stability) Roughly 45 min later GM has me roll a random PP check. . .
Me: 2, why?
GM: you drop Max. He is flat on his back and you can't reach him past you treads.
Me: Um. . . I try to use a rock to flip max over so he can walk away a bit and then I can reach him with my arms or some extenders or something
GM: Use a rock? How, you can't reach him?
Me: I CAREFULLY use my tank treads to prop him up next to a rock so he will slide over.
GM: Roll another PP check
Me:. (Roll) . . . . I am trying another dice, (Roll). . . I don't wanna tell you.
GM: What did you do?
Me: a 1.
GM: You carefully mush Max with a rock and your treads.
Me: Oh NO!! MAX!!! Your going to be ok buddy! It will be ok, we just need to get somebody to help put you back together, John can you. . . John? Max? Oh GOD! ANYBODY!!!!
As the juicer was just preparing to assassinate the commander of the base, I come rolling into the base at 40 mph screaming "Thank goodness I found you guys!" The Juicer was captured and forced to undergo Detox. He died in process, The Elf Ley Line Walker was executed resisting arrest, and my cyborg was unplugged and reverse engineered into a new CS Cyborg design. I still never forgave my GM for killing Max.
*McRipper said so*
Me: So, what all happened last time we played?
Friend: We went back to my place and got ROFL stomped by zombies.

During a Palladium Fantasy game our group came across a large black cauldron at the end of a heavily guarded dungeon. The cauldron was full of dark liquid and radiated great magic and vast evil. One of the players (who kept referring to himself as the chosen one) dipped a spoon into the liquid without touching it. The spoon comes away with a magical aura. Before the group could figure out what had happened to the spoon, said player dips his hand in the cauldron and becomes possessed. He turns on the group and quickly gets slaughtered. After going to great lengths to resurrect this player, the first words out of his mouth after coming back to life were "See, I told you I was the chosen one!" He was slaughtered by the group immediately after uttering those words and resurrected some time later when we had the PPE available to bring him back again. Before he could say anything he was warned by the group to keep his trap shut for the foreseeable future or we wouldn't bring him back a third time.
