Who want Vampire kingdoms2?

Unread post by gaby »

It can be on the War Between Ixzotz and Muluc!(See Aftermath page 146)
It can also give a Update on Reid,sRangers and other things.

What do you want to see in it?

If there were to be a Vampire Kingdoms 2, I would like to see;

The status of the area post-Siege on Tolkeen, any increase in CS presence and the fate of refugees fleeing to the areas.

Updates on Reid's Riders, and what would the impact be if their dirty little secrets got out.

The conflict between the Vampire Intelligencia & Camazotz "the Upstart" (as the VI's would call him) and the introduction of the Strigoi into Rifts.

More Anti-Vampire OCC's, magic and the like, especially if there would a a "CS Anti-Vampire Specialist" type....

OK, ok, no new OCC's. But new/updated info would be welcome.

I want Vampire Kingdoms 2 like I want colon cancer...

To be honest, I must be one of the 12 people on Planet Earth who doesn't mind the way Kevin designed his vampires. It beats the Anne Rice concept, as I'm tired of seeing metrosexuals running around as the most feared monsters out there.

A metrosexual is a what Jennifer Lopez turned Ben Affleck into when they were together. It was some term the media came up with to describe straight men who "were truly in touch with their feminine side". All the guys who advertised for things like Estee Lauder and the like, such as 98% of all male models, Ryan Seacrest, the Backdoor Boys and the like. Those are metrosexuals.....

Zoderator wrote:I like these vampires. They're cool, they're frightening and threatening, they're fun. And they're monsters.

I read about the Rifts vampires and thought "Awesome! A little stereotyped what with the water pistols hurting them and all, but given most things are based off the myths and legends, it makes sense for Rifts."

A few months later, I started playing "Vampire: the Lameness" (a World of Angst game by White Wolf). A human with a gun can quite happily waste a vampire. A werewolf can do it by accident... and they're so very "Oh woe is me! I am a monster! I am cursed by a god I don't even believe in... let's pretend to be mortals!" I quickly left the game after it turned into a game of backstabbing each other.

When a White Wolf player came up against a vampire in a Rifts game I am running, he was most shocked.
"I'll burst into flames and grapple him."
"If you really want. You fail to injure him, he hits you for... well, you're only half dead."
"But it's a vampire!"
"And?"
At which point another player pointed out that water is the way. And running.

So Kevin's vampires are great. A new book on them would be good if it dealt with more information on the area, and how it has changed since the SoT, but not if it made up new CS vamp-killers, or changed the vampires completely.

What are peoples' opinions on the Psi-Stalker Vampires from Rifter 25, incidentally? I like the idea insofar as they can easily be player characters. Psi-stalkers who are a bit different, and more likely to be chosen without an OCC. But what do others think?

I actually like both Kevin's and WW's vampires. Kevins is good because they tenf to be mor emonsterours, powerful, and make great villinas. (encep that the creatures that cause them are uldiating blobs of flesh with tentacles, I HATE that steriotype)

on the onther hand, I like WW system. and I do so like angst. (DEAL WITH IT PUNKS :P ) and while it's true WW's games can turn into backstabbing sessions, there's nothing wrong with that, it's just a diffrent style of gameplay, but if you don't like it, don't play it. and WW like any other game is dependent on the people playing it.
(though this is all I can really say in it's defence though)

I'm another one of the twelve. I was really impressed by the research that went into this book. The accuracy compared to the legends in remarkable to say the least.

Plus, their wicked fun to fight, and unlike many things that can be fought in Rifts, there can be no compunctions about killing them.

Its confusing to me at least how they can regen all their flesh, muscles, bones in 15 seconds if a stake is removed but it takes hours to get back arms and limbs if not previously staked.

Good point. That's something i'd like to see clarified as well.

I'd also like new breeds of Vampires that are immune to water or sunlight.. at least magical sunlight.

Maybe some info on what the other vampires are doing around the world instead of focusing just on the ones in Mexico.

Give them the ability to walk on walls (ala Van Helsing and Interview with a Vampire.. that crazy vampire walking upside down in the tunnel)

That's not a bad idea. Mexico has been ignored for better than 12 years now! It's about time they did something with it.

Oh, and FYI, the updates in the back of Aftermath are not actually canon material. They're just possible adventure ideas for GMs.

I would like to see VK2 if they make the Werecats there a more serious threat to the vamps, seems like they spend time actually protecting the humans around them. Anti-vamp magic/psionics would me nice.

A clarification on what races can dmg & possibly kill vamps in HtH combat, and the same for weapons.

Has to be more than one way to skin a cat, my GM use to run VK alot but we really got no where, seemed like more trouble than what it was worth. Sunlight kills, water kills, pierced heart + decap and burn kills... come on throw us a bone here.

I don't think the issue is level of power. It's just some of the...more ludicros aspects need to go.

Like a laser being less effective then a bloody water pistol. Now, I'm all for actual running water being effective, but...a water pistol? Please. Streams, creeks, rivers, those are good. Water pistol...less so.

I shudder and cringe at the thought of Vampire Kingdoms 2.
The original book is one of the best Rifts books in existence, and is certainly the best of the World Books. If Palladium tried to Revamp it today, here is what I would expect:

-More mainstream breeds of vampires to appease the Anne Rice fans
-"Hey, this is MEXICO, right? Let's toss in some TW Jumping Beans, MDC Pinatas, Mega-Jalapenos, MDC Poncho Armor, MDC Sombreros, and some notes on surviving the PA version of Montezuma's Revenge!"
-Power Creep. Probably including Wood or silver firing railguns that do more outright MD vs. non-vampire targets.
-New OCCs that rehash precious OCCs.

I am presently thankful that they have left things in the vampire territories alone for this long.

On the other hand, I'm probably being a wee bit pessimistic.
A few things I would cross my fingers and hope for are:

-Updated Vampire stats that allow for some of the new rules introduced since the original book was written; like "the 2 attacks for living" and the Supernatural Strength tables.
-How the vamps react to or interact with the various other factions on Rifts Earth (unless they just stick to themselves and don't care about much outside their own territories).
-Well thought out gear and tactics for vampires and vampire hunters.

They could cover a dimension where vamps have already taken over (maybe a few pockets of resistence)...

I would like to state that I like Palladium Vampires as villians, but I also like White Wolf's Vampires as they designed them to be playable characters with an effective culture and society. With that being said, at least White Wolf's aren't like Stephanie Meyers version of vampires. I just have to say this, "VAMPIRES DO NOT SPARKLE!!!" There, I got it out of my system.

Nope, don't want VK2 till after KS gets done rewriting the last Land of the Damned book. Or if you can't wait that long, not till the RT starships book is published.

I'd prefer Kevin had made vampires more like the description in Bram Stoker's work, with no mounds of tentacled flesh, blades and guns can hurt them, fire is deadly and running water like a river doesn't let them cross...
The squirt gun thing and invulnerability to fire just strike me as being ridiculous.
Maybe if they designed some other vampires not linked to intelligences that fit in better with the old legends, like Carmilla and Dracula do, I'd have less trouble including the weird ones into my games as "another type".

You might like the vampires in Rifter #49. While it's technically for Nightbane, I see no reason it can't be used for Rifts as well. (The author basically says your last sentence there.)

Probably because they didnt want to get sued, and its a new and differant take suitible for rifts.

Bram Stokers Dracula is Public Domain. Has been for many many years. No Law Suit will happen.

I would rather see Classic Vampires like found in Dracula myself. Vampires who travel in the daylight, though weakened.

Virtually any mortal race can potentially become a Vampire, unless their description explicitly says that they can't (e.g., I think that there are some Fennodi over in one of the Arzno Books that are kept as Mind Slaves because they can't be turned). I think that the A'rac (Rifts: Dinosaur Swamp) are another such creature who can't be turned, mainly because their blood cannot be consumed by the Vampires.

The in-game explanation is that Palladium Vampires like to snack on humans almost exclusively over all other sentient races, and almost exclusively like to turn Humans, too.

I only want a second Vamp book if it expands the race with mage & super psionic characters retaining some of their past abilities using the Rise from the grave necromancer spell as a guide-line. I'd like to see a summoner circle or magic ritual to free a secondary vampire from the control of a master vampire, free-willed vampires is what my group wants to play. Bring over the Nightbane half-vampire version and why not slip in the Guardians since they were not included in Dark Conversions.
