Well, to be fair, 3/4 of the threads on the first page are a year old

I'm sure the new Mechanoids book that Kevin and Carl are working on won't have then screaming 'Exterminate'!

Here is a funny one, and someone may have already mentioned it, does anyone realize that one of the Doctor's old enemies is a race called The Mechanoids?

They (the Mechanoids) are NOT a new or original concept...but KS did a decent spin job to make HIS idea sorta unique.

this is as good as the orginal disconnected line of the stories of the orginal daleks...

i don think it matters much if the Mechanoids arent an original concept. Daleks werent very original either

Actually the Daleks WERE original in design, but yeah, the concept of pyschotic mutants bent on "exterminating" anything NOT them, is pretty common theme since well...since the Greek & Roman epic poems

It has been said that there are anywhere from 1 to 36 kinds of plots available for a story, depending on who you ask. Even taking the largest number, 36, how many millions, or perhaps billions, of storytellers have there been in history?

Simple math and probability tells us that the stories of the Daleks and Mechanoids have been told many, many, many times before.

And even taking the "three classic" kinds (Man vs Man, Man vs Nature and Man vs Self), the Mechanoids and Daleks are different kinds of stories. Daleks are best equated to Man vs Man and the Mechanoids are best equated to Man vs Nature.

u dont have to get into fancy meta talk about quintesential storylines to know that the daleks were unoriginal. genocidal aliens trying to kill everything else in the universe are a stock standard kinda baddy in scifi

never got into Dr. Who but after reading this thread I guess I might enjoy it. Any other rifts/mechanoids series that are decent?
