Rifts® D-Bees of North America™: The Cat is out of the bag.

Unread post by Josh Sinsapaugh »

Well, the cat is out of the bag for who is writing the D-Bee book, and now you can probably see why Jason wanted you guys to guess.

From the July 3th Press Release, bolded for emphasis.
Rifts® D-Bees of North America™
A dozen freelancers have chipped in to create a book with 30+ new D-Bees along with updated stats and information on 60+ D-Bees of North America collected from other World Books.

This will be a handy reference for players (especially those looking to play a particular D-Bee) and Game Masters.

* 100 D-Bees; thirty-some new. All native to North America. Completely statted out and updated.
* Artwork by Perez and others.
* Cover painting by David Martin.
* Written by Kevin Siembieda and others.
* 192 pages – Cat. No. 871 – $22.95 retail.
* Anticipated release date: Fall, 2006, or Early 2007.

What twelve freelancers is it though?...Wait nevermind...there is only like a dozen or so...

:D :P

hey josh, are you going to go into how many attacks per round a Lynn Syral gets in a round? Or go into more depth on the Ugakwa explorers? I'd love to know why a race with supernatural strength needs mechanical leg braces.

The Lynn Syral? Maybe, I'm not incharge of compiling that one.

The Ugakwa? No. It's D-Bees of North America. The Ugakwa are a European D-Bee.

False. By definition, if it's a D-bee, it cannot be native to North America.

Though I do have a couple of great grandmothers on both sides of my family who were Native American.

Via your definition then a "Native American" isn't a native to North America because they were originally migrants from Eurasia.

Actually, by my opinion only of course, I believe I am 100% American do the fact that I cannot possibly track down all the different countries my ancestors came from. I know of 3 for sure, but that doesn't mean I can say I'm native to one of those three...

Besides, how many beings are classified as D-Bee's just because they do not look 100% human? Could they be a race of mutated humans that have been around since the coming of the rifts?

Though I do agree that the book couldn't possibly be full of those type. Therefore, they should change the description to say: All Found in North America.

Because, if you did that then D-Bees from Europe, China, India, Australia, Russia, Africa and everywhere else would be left severely, severely lacking.

Hopefully, there will be other "D-Bees of X" books.

No, though one of the fields in the race template is "Habitat," so you should have an idea of where they can be found.

clarifications/details on what OCC's if any various races can take?

Yep. "Available O.C.C.'s" is a field, though is that ever left off? It seems that most races have that listed.

Interesting question, but I believe that there is an official answer on this already available.

Only 38 why not go the extra mile and give us 40

Don't look at me.

8-10 of those new ones (I forget the exact number) are mine.

I'd gladly create 2 (or 20) more, but I'm sure Jason would strangle me if I did so.

* 192 pages – Cat. No. 871 – $22.95 retail.
* Anticipated release date: Fall, 2006, or Early 2007.

What twelve freelancers is it though?...Wait nevermind...there is only like a dozen or so...

:D :P

~ Josh

So basically besides the new 30+ DB's this book is going to be a huge copy paste project with some new artwork. :-?

It would be a book in the same token as the Book of Magic, a handy sourcebook.

And note how the press release said "updated."

Marrowlight, Rifts is RUEized.

Unless you mean that every world book and sourcebook will have an RUE edition, and that's a no. New printings might get tweaked slightly (perception bonues and skill selection etc.), but no there won't be RUE editions of everything.

Every worldbook and sourcebook, maybe not. But this is going to cut a serious chunk of the necessary updated material just with this book alone.

What does it matter if New West hasn't been released as RUE if all the stuff in it that needed to be updated has been done in compilation books? But the pill of updating is lessened by adding "new content" along with the updating.

Don't get me wrong, I'll probably get the book - I like the concept of New D-Bees and your Rifter artcile had some fun ones....it just triggers some creepy senses in the retail/marketing side of my brain.

Dude. It's a Palladium project. I'm almost willing to swear that KS invented the time machine just so he could copy & paste into the first book he ever published.

So wait... are people complaining that we're writing a book that updates and standardizes playable character races, and that only 60-75 printed pages or are brand-spanking new?

You mean like that lil "Rifts: Ultimate Edition" that came out a while ago?

Shock and amaze! :)

Despite the grief I gave Jason earlier, nothing really. There are few things I hate as much in the world of gaming as having to bring one more book because it has a single race in it and nothing else I use.

But this will have 30+ so it is good and it updates :D

Right...let me restate.

Say I've got a player who's playing a race from Rifts Canada, and only from Rifts Canada, that got sent to phase world. I now have to bring Rifts Canada if I want to look up anything on that player's race -- even if I have no other need for it.

Have four or five players all doing that, and that's a lot of extra books just for a page of material.

Having it all in one book is cool, makes life a lot easier.
