"The exploration of the alternity initially designated as NE-1B would turn out, despite the first impressions, or perhaps BECAUSE of them, to be a most fortuitous discovery in the events yet to play out between the two sister-universes of UEG- and UN/Nu-Earth.
It is not known who first suggested the name 'Phlegethon' for the desolate planet, but with its ruined cities and blood-red seas, it seemed oddly appropriate to name it for the river that cascaded into the Eighth Circle of Hell....Especially in light of what would be discovered...
The entire atmosphere of Phlegethon had an undefinable but undeniable sense of WRONGNESS that began to adversely affect even the hardiest veterans of the Southern Cross teams exploring it...At least a dozen of the fifty-odd personnel assigned to the surveys had to receive psychiatric help afterwards....Reports of hearing disembodied voices, seeing spectral apparitions, and creeping paranoia were common to Phlegethon visitors. To men who had lived through the Rain of Death, Phlegethon was a wholly unsettling experience, for though it lacked the cratering and wholesale destruction so common to post Zentraedi War Earth, this Earth seemingly had all hope drained away from its air and soil.
It got so bad that by the time the GMP and REP scout teams cracked into the lower levels of an abandoned Terminal Dogma, they had to send in specially fitted GMP Golems...so badly shaken were members of the exploration party...
However, what they found in the remaining NERV computers and facilities would prove critical to UEG policy towards their dimensional neighbors....Having seen what was POSSIBLE on Nu-Earth, none who set foot on Phlegethon's shores would ever wish that to happen AGAIN...
Phlegethon would turn out to be a river of a different kind...a Rubicon for the UEG...."
----Thomas Daggen, Major(ret.), Recon Escort Patrol. In the House of Mirrors: The Southern Cross Super-Dimensional Expeditionary Forces. New Monument Press, 2048

The world known as Phlegethon, for all its open spaces and unclaimed material riches, would remain, in the minds of those who had visited it after the Event, a haunted place. In time, the emerging multi-dimensional entity that was the UEsG might claim the planet, open it up to human colonization and habitation again, but not in the foreseeable future...The files gathered on it were closed, and for the time being, not even the UN would know of the UEG discovery...Phlegethon was deemed a proscribed place, to be left with its blood-red seas and ghosts...
Of the two bodies found on that blood-washed seashore, once the coroners were done wit them, they were buried up the shore in the Hakone highlands, under a cairn of stones...A laser-cut plaque laid down, identifying the deceased, their years, and of a cause of death: "a tragedy of billions"...
Not far away, the forward REP camp was left mothballed, its modular supply bunkers and dome-shelters left powered down, but fully stocked with batteries, fuel, and food, a solar-powered automated radio beacon pulsing out a simple message and coordinates, in the event anyone remained on that desolate world...an invitation to any who might brave the elements and distances to find the outpost, its shelter and supplies, and the chance of escape from isolation through the Gate..
It would be a long time before anyone next stepped over that threshold...

Okay, sad, I know, but the puzzle pieces are falling into place to justify the UEG's radical actions.... :(

And yes...with the TC, CU, TASC, SS, and AF defending Earth from the Masters, the GMP, ATAC, and MOS working in NuEarth, the REP(Recon Escort Patrol) gets to spearhead the new SCSDEF initiative.....exploring strange new worlds, sneaking around, and having adventures....

Finding new niches for the ASC :D

:( Yes, very sad indeed. :( But at the same time brings help for the future.

A green-haired woman(not a Zentraedi) twitched and jerked to wakefulness, against the restraints of her straitjacket. The armored guards standing on watch outside her padded cell took immediate notice.
(twitch)“erk....Oh no...flash back montage....”(twitch)
There was a hasty call to the pharmacy to send the thorazine truck back up.

(FLASH)

“Ah, I know I mentioned this before, but shouldn’t we...y’know...maybe go and rescue...?”
“NO, Usagi, we are not going to rescue Setsuna from the other universe!”
“Aw...why not?...She’s one of us! ‘All for one, one for a penny’, and all...”
“That’s ‘all for one, one for all’, Minako...and Usagi, no, she’s not one of us. If she were one of us, she wouldn’t have led us on a half-assed attack on a place that had never HEARD of us before, into the sights of those gun-happy lunatics! And NO, I didn’t think those guys were cute!!!”
“But, Rei...”
“No! She’s always played it ‘lone and mysterious’, and never confided in us, unless it helped out her grand agenda, whatever that is! If she really was one of us, she’d have warned us so many times before, instead of waiting for disaster to strike before dropping some cryptic gem of information on us...Well, this time, she screwed upbig-time, and she’s going to have to pay the consequences...”
“Yeah, we don’t have the element of surprise this time...”
“Sailor healing aside,I’m STILL feeling those grenade fragments in my butt!”
Rei shivered...the last time she’d done a fire-reading at the behest of Usagi about the Sailor of Time and the chances of a successful rescue mission, she’d been paralyzed with fear for several days afterwards, every time a heavy truck went past her...The images of those onrushing armored vehicles, screaming right at her, weapons blazing....Heck, she dove fro cover whenever jet airliners came in overhead headed for Tokyo International...too much like those visions of death-shapes thundering down at her, chasing her through the streets of Juuban, unleashing storms of missiles at her and her friends...
Ami and Matako had their own shivers, remembering their own respective near-death experiences, being downrange of some fairly heavy screaming-death ordnance...Youma they’d face fearlessly but Youma never used enfilading cover fire, nor did they use grenades.....
Mamoru didn’t remember much of the whole event, but that wasn’t new to him...he wasn’t terribly bright to begin with, and subsequent bouts of identity crisis hadn’t helped things...Being headbutted by a burly seven-foot Tactical Corps trooper in full body armor, just before the tuxedo-clad Prince of Earth had been buried under several tons of steel rigging, hadn’t improved his recall abilities much either. But Mongo...Mamoru...knew ‘memories bad, pain bad, not want pain, so not remember’(Usagi would later have problems with his mental issues on their wedding night).
The Moon Cats weren’t about to agitate much either for going back for Sailor Pluto....a week spent in a GMP kennel, being harassed by dogs that looked semi-feral and part-mutant(entirely possible; the GMP had scoured the Rain of Death wastelands for new breeding stock), being fed kibble by obvious non-cat-lovers, before they’d been released(heave-ho-tossed, actually, through a dimensional Gate) without so much as an apology, had them ill-disposed to want anything to do with the Sailor of Time without some major up-front explanations of benefits before-hand.
To the unseen watcher, it became readily evident that salvation wasn’t coming anytime soon from THAT direction.

(FLASH)

Spacelords weren’t meant for surface to surface bombardment...Asuka didn’t know that...All she knew was that some f******g SHORE BATTERY had stolen her kill from her. The naval fleet personnel in the ships escorting her were, on the other hand, immensely relieved that that no more of their ships had been trashed by either Gaghiel or Unit-02 playing stepping stones with them before the SSM strike had come in...Many promises were made to personally thank whoever had called in the missiles....

(FLASH)

“Looks like that one bit the dust...”
“NO, WAITAMINUTE! BEHIND YOU! BEHIND YOU! IT’S STILL ALIVE! IT’S...wow...that was some throw...”
‘15th! Tank Mode, NOW! Give them some covering fire!”
“Which one?”
“There’s two of them! No arguments!”
The 15th ATAC would have to share credit with the 7th TASC and 18th TC squadrons for killingIsrafel, though the 15th had the dubious honor of helping pull Unit-02 out of its headfirst position in the bay...Some wag back at Monument had half-jokingly tabled a petition for a ‘Godzilla Medal’ if such actions were going to become routine for Southern Cross units...The 18th was ALREADY sporting an Angel hashmark on their battloids.
Gendo threw a fit when the news footage of the ‘Battle of Sagami Bay’ hit the international news....

(FLASH)

“Hear what those crazy NERV guys did?”
“No, what?”
“Went inside a volcano afterone of those Angels. Got it, too...”
“Man, those kids are braver than they look...and those Evangelions are tough too, if they can stand that sort of heat...”
“Heck, if the Zentraedi or the Masters could survive in molten rock, you can bet we’d have developed to stuff to go after them there, too.”
“I dunno, chief...I’m just as glad we weren’t there for the ride...”

(FLASH)

“Okay, boys and girls...Power’s out all across the city except for our mechs, which is DAMN funny...So keep your eyes open for anything unusual...”
“Like giant spiders several city blocks wide?”
“Yeah, like that, Riter...very funn...Holy....”
“I don’t think we brought enough PESTEX for that thing!”
“Hmmm...you ask me, looks like all its eyes are pointing downwards, and all the legs are coming in at the back of that thorax...”
“Weak point, sir?”
“Worth a shot....either we’ll score a critical hit, or it will turn on us and kill us all.”
“Didn’t expect to grow old in this job, Captain.”
“That’s why you and your wing will be orbiting back to see what happens when me and Able-wing hit it with a full load of Tarpons.”
Matarael folded like a stomped cockroach...
Rubbing his sore muscles from helping haul all that heavy EVA gear into place, Gendo again cursed the Outsiders for their miraculous luck with their weaponry.

(FLASH)

“Computer barriers are ...were...Looked like somebody tried to hack us...but it just stopped dead.”
“Oh well...well, continue with that ‘Protoculture generator’...”
“Power generation’s off the charts for something that size! Look at those power levels!”
Aoba meanwhile attended to removing software trash from the NERV computer systems.
TRASHCAM FULL. EMPTY TRASH/DELETE FILES? Y/N?
YES
And so Iruel the Computer Virus quietly kicked the bucket...
But, due to a computer software foul-up, Shinji, Asuka, and Rei still ended up getting ejected into Lake Ashino and spending a half-hour floating around naked, until several Southern Cross hovercraft towed them back, before NERV could...

(FLASH)

“Big ugly hypnoball floating around the perimeter...Think it could be an Angel?”
“Sure looks like it...Okay, NERV just went to alert..Wanna wait to see what they do first?”
“No...if the missiles don’t do the trick, NERV can have their turn with the Evangelions...”
“Okay...batteries Baker and Delta firing Skylords and Shovels now...”
A minute later, Leliel popped like a parade ballloon...
Gendo sat through the UN news conference praising the fast action of ‘our brother and sister humans from across time and space’, grinding his teeth.

(FLASH)

“And that’s one more Evangelion Unit safely delivered! Appreciate the escort, you guys!”
The F-Wing Flying Wing transport pilot gave a thumbs up to the futuristic-looking jet helicopter cruising along off the giant aircraft’s left side. With a waggle of wings the AJACs and Corsair IIIs peeled off to return to their base ship...It had been an uneventful flight except for that one spot of bad weather....high altitude lightning up the wazoo, then it almost seemed like the cloud had run AWAY from them....
So much for Bardiel, the Thirteenth...
Gendo felt a mysterious sense of loss...He’d just missed the opportunity to be a total SOB and torch his son in the process...he just knew it.

(FLASH)

“It’s boring out here...nothing but hills, hills, more hills, gawking people...oh, and a floating giant torso...Oh crud!”
Zuruel might have been able to escape the TC battloids, if the hovertanks hadn’t penned it in from the other side, and then the AJACS had shown up.....After that, it was a straight-out shoot’em up, with a follow-up argument over who got to claim the ‘Zilla stripe’ for the kill...
Once again, Gendo had to listen to another round of UN administrators talking about how WONDERFUL it was that these Outsiders were around to kick Angel butt...

(FLASH)

“ARRRGGGHH!!! Get out of my head you overgrown pigeon!”
Arael learned that trying to invade a Zentraedi-Terran hybrid’s mind was NOT a good idea...It would never be known exactly what caused the fatal feedback loop that obliterated the Angel; Dana Sterling’s massive sense of self-worth, or a genetic preposition to smack around anybody who gave her grief...
Of course, things were a little hairy between Dana and Zor for a while afterwards, but after a few rounds at their favorite local bar, she was back to normal again...
Gendo thought about sledgehammering Asuka Langley in the back of the head and into a coma anyways, while trying to shake the Southern Cross reps’ requests to take a ‘closer look’ at the Lance of Logenius that they had volunteered to retrieve while their spacecraft were ‘already out there anyways’.

(FLASH)

“Finally, at last...those Llium anti-histimine shots did the trick! I’m away from those accursed Flowers! Now to set this world BACK on its proper course!”
“Sorry, kid, nothing personal...just saving the world...”
(A big red right fist of STONE comes out of the darkness)
*PILEDRIVER*
(Tabris goes flying through several walls before slumping unconscious inside a crumpled-up metal fence)
“Just to show how sorry I am, I even brought flowers...”
(Big bouquet of Flowers of Life comes down on top of a stoned-out Tabris, who shudders and promptly slips back into a coma..., before he gets dragged out of sight)

(FLASH)

Mana Krishima sighed....She REALLY wanted to put the Trident Land Cruiser in trials up against those Spartas Hovertanks....Betting had been heavy among the base staff whether the ‘bear’ or the ‘wolves’ would win in simulated combat....Just maybe, maybe, with the ‘Southern Cross’ getting more involved across the globe, she’d have the chance to prove her machine’s mettle.

(FLASH)

“.....aaahhhhh....drugs....” Setsuna murmurred as she felt the effects of the sedation injections begin to take hold....She HATED these disjointed flashback episodes but at least some linear temporal catching up had been accomplished with this last seizure...and the drugs the doctors were giving her were admittedly a LOT more effective at letting her sleep than the alcohol she used to use to pound herself to sleep with against the six thousand-plus years’ burden of memories she carried....Now if only she could remember if tomorrow was brownie or pudding day for dinner dessert....?

As the circle of worlds expands, so do the opportunities, and so passing jokes lead to follow-ons...

Face it, the sick twisted fantasies of some fanboys out there aside, Setsuna is a very likely borderline psychotic who's either been twisted by untold ages of watching at the Gates of Time, or is struggling under a poorly-worded(or maliciously-structured) geis that has robbed her of her self-will and sense of right and wrong...

She needs a little downtime...

That last one Taalismn posted was extremely sad! Thank you for sharing it with us! :(
"Your Grace," she said, "I have only one question. Do you wish this man crippled or dead?"

"My Lady," the protector of Grayson told his Champion, "I do not wish him to leave this chamber alive."

"As you will it, your Grace."

...Deep in a new-growth forest in the Kentucky scablands, a Tirolian Bioroid Terminator commando team raids a Southern Cross laboratory facility on the rumors that something important is being held there...or at the very least, Protoculture they can scavenge to bolster their faltering supplies...
Resistance is fierce; the humans put up a fight, further convincing the Tirolians they're protecting something important. The firefight rages into the facility proper...

Moments later something goes terribly wrong as the better part of the commando team, several sections of wall, the Tirolian landing craft, two Bioroids, a Battloid, and two Southern Cross security guards vanish in a flash of light...

Reinforcements on the scene find only a garnet-topped staff lying on the floor of the breached laboratory room, and a chronograph that belonged to one of the missing guards.....which, for some reason, randomly changes its time-setting, from mere seconds late/fast, to thousands of years forward and back(depsite the fact that the particular model of wrist-chrono isn't supposed to be able to show such things...)..

Side bar time! I will put these up at randam every now and them with a different Sci-Fi show and ask who do you think would win in the conflict! First up: Battletech! We will asume that their weapons and armor are similar. So who would win between these two? My call is hands down on Robotech mecha, one, they are way more agile, two, greater rang with weapons, and there ships are better also. So what do you think?

We already had that decided...The forces of Interdimensional Monitoring would step in and put a stop to the fight, then erase the memories of the participants, before returning them to their respective universes... :D

:::Gendo appearing on a game show hosted by Eric Idle:::

Eric Idle::: "Who is out player today Ted?"
Ted the announcer::: "Gendo who's son pilot unit 1."
Eric Idle::: "Today Gendo we are going to test your survival skills. If you make it thru this contest you'll win 1,000,000,000 yen tax free! Our first contest is a simple one. You must pull one of these levers."
:::The curtains pull back to reveal four levers.:::
Eric Idle::: "One of these levers will unlease a suitcase containing money! It contains 1,000,000 yen. The others will cause you a world of pain. And if you make thru this one you will get a chance to go on for more money until the very last contest where you will win 1,000,000,000 yen! Go ahead and pull one of those levers Gendo!"
:::Gendo walks over and pulls the very first lever. A giant 16 ton weight drops from the ceiling squashing Gendo. Many cheers occur after his death.:::

"One of these suitcases contains the embyronic Adam! The others? Well, a Fijian spring-loaded poison dart trap, a lethally radioactive isotope...cat not included...a claymore directional mine, an IED, TWENTY THOUSAND VOLTS OF RAW NAKED POWER, a naked psychotic mad green-haired woman with a grudge against you and a staff that makes things go boom, a zombie bobcat, a drunk-mad Klingon midget with a batt'leh, a hundred rabid flesh-eating gerbils, a plate of Akane Tendo's 'Tuna Noodle Surprise', a pissed-off muppet with a machinegun, a spayed facehugger, and a Harkonen family Hunter-Seeker assassination remote...
Choose wisely!"

(A much bandaged Gendo steps up to the podium)
MC: "Well...the Judge has decided he's going to let you plea-bargain...You can continue playing and try for Adam, or you can take life imprisonment...which will it be?"

(Gendo growls....something barely audible as "&%^!! the %&*& Judge!"...and points at another suitcase..)

MC: "And your choice -IS-!......The Harkonen Hunter-Seeker!"

(The indicated suitcase opens up and a suspensor-propelled sliver of metal darts out, hovers for a moment, then flies straight at Gendo, who tries to dodge out of its way, but fails due to his tight bandages...It runs him through the stomach, and he drops out of sight, screaming.)

MC: "Well, at least that's out of the way! Will he take the plea, or will he look for Adam in all the wrong places!?"

Eric Idle looks over at him and smiles.::: "Ah Colonel Edwardas I see you managed to escape those rabid flesh eating gerbils. Would you like to continue to gather more cash in our game?

Edwards looks over and shakes his head.

Eric Idle smiles and says::: "Chose another lever."

Edwards reaches over to another lever. Then he hesitates and grabs a different one. He suddenly screams as his back is covered in these darts normally found on a dart board. His screaming stops abruptly and he falls backward onto the layer of darts on his back.

Eric Idle::: "Oppps! Looks like the poison darts got him!"
"Your Grace," she said, "I have only one question. Do you wish this man crippled or dead?"

"My Lady," the protector of Grayson told his Champion, "I do not wish him to leave this chamber alive."

"As you will it, your Grace."

Automated weapons systems lock onto Minmei's heat signature. The weapon fires leaving a fine red spray and a pudlle of blood. :D

---Meanwhile...
A clash of voices, a peal of shouting upon the stage...Above it all, heads nod, and a few glances made at a bearded profile with a troubled brow...Is that perhaps a smile on the care-worn face?
Unseen behind the great head, a curtain moves, as if by a breeze...
A flash of light, a shot! A thud and ring of a ricochett as the shot hits SOMETHING!
GMP Corporal Rebekka Kalos didn't know what the HELL just happened..One moment she's fighting room to room with a bunch of aliens in body armor through the corridors of Depot #487, when the wall starts glowing next to her, and the next she's standing here in another room and somebody just fired a slug at her! She was about to tell the jack-ass, whoever they were, in no uncertain terms to shoot at the enemy and not here when she looked up and saw said-jack-ass running at her, weapon in hand...
Unarmored civie or not, training was clear. Defend yourself...Corporal Kalos' form was perfect...rifle sling-swung out the way, reach, slap, grab(snap of bone) pull ( was that a shoulder popping, I hear?), drop, lift(incidentally slamming shoulder pad flange into a diaphragm and floating ribs gone jelly-like), and throw...
With a scream, John Wilkes Booth flew over his target and out of the Presidental Box of Ford's Theatre, and landed on the stage below with a bone-shattering crunch, interrupting the night's showing of "Our American Cousin".

Immediate threat over, Corporal Kalos straightened back up, repositioning her rifle and re-surveying her surroundings...Getting a good look at the small group of people at the balcony she'd just tossed her assailant over, she felt a moment of deja-vu...
Where have I seen that guy before?
Moments later there was a crashing sound behind her as a score of blue-clad men surged into the room and stopped at the sight of the black-and-white armored form standing between them and the President of the United States(once again united).
"Oh great..." Corporal Kalos muttered to herself inside her face mask...she had a feeling this was going to be one of those days....

(Back at the Game of Pain)
MC(Who has now been replaced by an older and wiser...i.e., had the airheadedness beaten out of her by the harsh years, until she now looks like a scarred-up Angelica Huston...Minmei) : "While our last contestant is making up his twisted mind whether he wants to take a nother round, we welcome our next contestant to the Podium of Decision: Kouzou Fuyutsuki!!!"

Gendo's second-in-command appears on the stage...
Fuyutsuki: "Er...why am I here?"

Minmei: "Because you knew all about Gendo...knew enough to destroy him, in fact, but you let him push you around, and you did nothing! So the Judge decided you rated a turn in the Game of Pain...But unlike the others who've shared the stage so far, the Judge is willing to offer you a pleas-bargain right off the bat! Most of your remaining life in prison repenting, or a spin at the Game of Pain; a chance at some serious cash, the Embryo of Adam, or PPPAAAIIINNN...."

Fuyutsuki: "Well, I can't believe this is really happening to me, or that such a barbaric miscarriage of justice would be allowed to happen to a person like me, so I'm going to take my chances."

Minmei: "He's going to take his chances..Because he thinks bad things can't happen to him! Man, does THAT sound familiar or what? Okay. take your pick...which suitcase do you think will make you richer or more powerful?"

Fuyutsuki: "That one! She doesn't look as nervous or stiff!"

Minmei: "Okkkaaay....But just so you know...the girls don't know which fate they're holding! Let's see what the old guy's picked!"

(The selected suitcase is openned, and out comes...
A naked and wild-haired Setsuna Meioh(ex-Sailor Pluto)[to the disappointment of the fanboys out there, the censor has blurred her naughty bits] brandishing her KeyStaff)

Setsuna: (Spying Fuyutsuki) "YOU!"

Fuyutsuki: (astonished at the anger radiating off the woman and obviously directed at him) "Me?"

Setsuna: "YES YOU!!! I REMEMBER YOU!!! YOU CUT ME ON THE HAKONE TURNPIKE BACK IN 1986!!! I WAS LATE FOR A HOT DATE AND HE THOUGHT I DUMPED HIM! HE LEFT ME AND NEVER SPOKE TO ME AGAIN!!! MY LAST CHANCE FOR A NORMAL RELATIONSHIP BEFORE I WAS SAILOR PLUTO, GUARDIAN OF THE GATES OF TIME AGAIN AND IT ALL WENT TO HELL!!!! AND WHY DID YOU CUT ME OFF?! SO YOU COULD MAKE GOOGLE_EYES AT YOUR FEMALE STUDENTS YOU OLD FART!!! ARRRRRGGGHHHH!!! HAVE AT YOU!!!!"
(she leaps down and out at the startled older man and proceeds to thrash him with the KeyStaff)

CRUNCH!ooww!WHAM!gahh!MAIM!ewch!MURTALIZEgahk!HAMMERHAMMMERHAMMER

(After a prolonged period of kicking and beating Fuyutsuki into a bloody pulp, Setsuna, breathing heavily, stands up over the barely breathing red jello that was the Vice Director of NERV.)

Setsuna: "Can I go back to the hospital now? I'm late for my medication and it's pasta night in the ward."
(Two interns come up, take the KeyStaff away from her, wrap her in a sheet, and take her out of the studio...Behind her, Fuyutsuki's remains flop out of sight through a trap door in the floor)

Minmei: "Well...I guess he learned HIS lesson...NEVER cut off a woman on the turnpike!"

(NERV, 2015...Vice Director's Apartment)
"YYYAAAGGGHHH!!!!"
Fuyutsuki: "Awwwmannnn.....what a nightmare! What a nightmare..Thank god it it was a dream....But right now selling Gendo out to the authorities is looking like a really good idea!"

It is not going to be a part of the story, just a little talk about how they would do if they ever fought against each other. They will NOT have any baring on our little story, and hurting Gendo time. I will also be asking about other Sci-Fi shows too. And remember, this is a topic about crossovers in general. So any thoughts on this? I am not asking a lot here. Just a couple of responses.

Thanks..I figured Minmei was overdue for some good fortune...I mean, she's pretty well brutalized by Edwards, so she's paid her dues, IMO...

Edwards and Gendo are behind the scens of the game show recover in their body cast. Even their jaws are wired closed to let them heal. In the distance an inhuman armored figure appears. It glides up to Gendo and Edwards. Their eyes bug out and they make funny noises in their panic. The armored figure looks at them both. (It's Kosh from Babylon 5) It's eye dialates open wider then narrows down to a very tiny opening. "It is too late for the peebles to vote! The avalanch has begun!" Gendo and Edwards are surprised to hear the very cool musical notes as the alien speaks. But as soon as the alien is finished about 20 tons of small pea sized river gravel rains down on the pair. The alien looks around as people gather to look at the towering pile of small stones.

Minmei, Mistress of Pain...er...Ceremonies...appears back on stage.
Minmei: "While our regular contestants are gathering themselves back together again backstage, here...fresh from being resurrected from the depths of Unit Zero...is our next new contestant..Let's hear it for NAOKO AKAGI!"

(Ristuko Akagi's mother appears on the podium, dressed in her old lab coat)

Crowd: BBBOOO!!!!Hisssssss!!! (spit!) Boooo!!!

Naoko: "What? I did nothing wrong! I'm a victim too! Why are you dissing me? I'm without fault!"
(camera pan over to crowd; as far as can be seen, it's all made up of identical blue-haired, red-eyed girls all glaring daggers at the elder Akagi...There's one younger version up front wearing a neck brace)

Rei I:"OLD HAG!!!Death's too good for you!"

Minmei: "Now that's what I call audience support! Now, Naoko, as if being Gendo's first mistress..."

Naoko: "I WAS HIS PERFECT MATCH!"

Minmei:"Yep, and he tossed you aside as soon as you were burnt out...Anyways, it's time to make a choice; eternal damnation in script limbo or would you like to take a chance on Adam, Yen, or Pain?"

Naoko: "Well, the way I see it, the previous contestants have already knocked out five of the lethal choices...so the chances of picking one of the two prizes out of the remaining suitcases are much better...pretty good, in fact...So I'd be an idiot not to take a chance!"

Minmei: "You certain?"

Naoko: "Of course I'm certain! I'm a PH.D, not some washed up idol singer!"

Minmei: "All right...Show your genuis! Which one do you pick?"

Naoko: "Let's see....that....no...THAT one...DEFINITELY that one!"

(The selected case is held up, then oppened....)

RRRUUUTTTENNNRUTTTTENNNNRRRNNNGGGGGNNNGGGGG

(Verne Troyer in a metal hockey-mask and carrying a giant chainsaw comes lunging out and dashes at the podium and proceeds to cut Naoko off at the knees.)

NNNNAAAAYYYYGGGHHHHHHHHHHHZZZZZZZZZZZZZ
"AAAIIIEEEEEEE!!!!
BBBZZZZAAAAAANNNNNGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHH

Minmei politely looks the other way, while the audience all takes out camcorders...

Minmei: "Well...that was a surprise..I didn't even know Verne Troyer was going to be on today's show! Okay, he's our surprise guest? That makes sense...Naoko Akagi certainly was surprised!"

Of course we can kill and torture those two as often as we want. All thanks to Vorlon technology! We can get exact clones of those two forever. And the shadows have a technology to allow us to keep their memories intact and transferred to the new cloned bodies! :D Therefore we can make these people dance to whatever music we want too. Edwards:(Looking at Gendo)"Times like this I really HATE this Invid-induced advanced healing..."
Gendo: "Yeah...You wonder why I kill Angels? Because of this whole divine retribution thing...I can't die until I've either redeemed myself or until some 'divinity' arbitrarily decides I've suffered enough...You know, we're both in the same boat...Why didn't we ever team up? "
Edwards: "Because for all that I'm a backstabbing, betraying, tyrannical, raping, traitor to humanity, I'd have NEVER neglected my kid! I'd have made sure he followed my example and became JUST like me!"
Gendo: "Well ain't you the sanctimonious little prig!"
Edwards: "Yeah, well you remember that your own kid hates you when you get dropped into the giant food processor!"
Gendo: "I hope you get the acid bath next!"

Stagehand: "NEXTTTT!!!"

(Both Edwards and Gendo go pale as they realize it's time again...)

Fixed it...Gendo should be wishing EDWARDS gets the acid-bath next...

And yeah, I think Edwards would probably be better father material...He'd warp and twist the kid's mind, and use him or her in a few plots, sure, but he'd take care of his kid, and the kid would end up a twisted psychopath in Edwards' image, but Edwards would at least be spending time with the brat...

Yeah...divorce and custody would be rather difficult with Edwards...

You'd need your lawyer to have at least a division of UEEF Marines and a dozen MP EVAs with augmentation armor to have a half-way civil meeting with him('half-way civil' in this case meaning 'casualties not expected to exceed 50%')

"So these men were saboteurs from NuEarth, planning on setting off N2 warheads inside Monument City?"
"Yes sir!"
"And you managed to find all of the weapons?"
"Yes to that, as well sir!"
"Have you checked all the N2 ordnance they've sent us?"
"Yes sir...only what was in the possession of these terrorists is suspect...Everything else checks out on what was given to our armed forces."
"And Major Fredericks uncovered this plot?"
"Well...sort of.."
"He died a hero uncovering this plot, did he?"
"Well, he actually was about to sign the saboteurs in thinking they were delivering some luxury goods that had been ordered from NuEarth when the customs team found the weapons and all hell broke loose...He tripped and broke his neck diving for cover...."
"But he was the senior officer there?"
"Yes sir!"
"Then he died a hero...That's what the official record will say and that's what we'll announce! Major Fredericks died a hero, saving Monument City! A GMP officer to the end!"
"Yes sir. So noted."
"Now get those rats who thought to BOMB MY CITY!"
"We're on it, sir."

*WARNING: CONTAINS WARM AND FUZZY CONTENT    : DIABETICS AND CRYOGENIC HEARTS TAKE CAUTION*

Another day of recovery....physical therapy, rest, hot meals, and then time to herself, spent more often than not gazing out her room window at the almost hypnotizing sight of the giant planet dominating the Tirolian sky. She’d never been much of student of anything beyond what was required of her in school, had never followed, except in the most desultory way, any talk of space exploration, speculative fiction,or science fiction movies....and now she was on an alien world, beneath an alien sky, surrounded, arguably, by aliens.....

She couldn’t help thinking that her classmate Kensuke Aida would have cheerfully allowed himself to be maimed by the Sixteenth Angel for an opportunity like this, even if it meant losing a place as an EVA Pilot...Careful what you wish for, Mister Aida, Rei thought, remembering the recent frequency with which EVA pilots were ending up on other worlds in the hospitals of far-flung alien nations, If you become Fifth Child, that may very well be what happens.

The sound of a wheelchair interrupted her revere, and she turned her head to look into the smiling green eyes of Admiral Lisa Hunter. Surely she is in as much discomfort as I, Rei thought, seeing the woman’s still red scars and leg braces, but she refuses to show it. She’d learned of the injuries the woman now next to her had taken in a not so long ago battle with enemies in this place, and her own hard recovery...injuries that would have crushed a person of less will and determination. Instead, the woman had taken time between her own therapy treatments to visit the newcomer in her hospital room, offering a quiet smile and words of encouragement from the sidelines, as the nurses changed Rei’s bandages or worked her sutured-back-together muscles through yet another exercise meant to restore flexibility and motion.
Rei had never identified much with the physicians and nurses that treated her back at NERV, and she pretty much repeated the same with these people as well, but she began, to her increasing surprise, to take strength from the presence of Lisa Hunter by her side. She found herself looking forward to the woman’s daily visits, her quiet unhurried questioning, her gentle explanation of things in this unfamiliar world...Ayanami Rei was familiar with command presences; she had been raised to acknowledge them and obey them without question...Ikari Gendo’s absoluteness, Doctor Akagi’s detached and brisque professionalism, Captain Katsuragi’s snap decisiveness...but this woman....She was commanding, without being demanding...Rei didn’t know what to make of it...
And with that ease came an appreciation of the doctors and nurses...They weren’t NERV personnel, scared in their way of the presence of the Commander looming nearby, and treating her with a clinical detachment...like a part that needed fixing....She tried smiling, when they came, even when it meant another painful session of therapy...She even came to know them by their names...The dark-skinned Doctor Jean Grant, who joked at the convenience of having her ‘two favorite patients’ frequently in the same room, the pink-haired nurses Alaphi and Doriphi, who she at first had trouble telling apart until she learned they were native ‘Tirolians’, Ruth, the physical therapist who helped work feeling and functionality back into an arm that had seemed like so much dead meat at first...She found herself focusing on their words, their faces...They weren’t afraid of her, didn’t look through her...
Lisa Hunter settled her wheelchair next to Rei’s bed as they faced out the room window, looking out over the cityscape of Tiresia to the low mountains surrounding the city...
They made an unusual couple...the crippled Admiral and the wounded Child-pilot...sitting there in front of the window watching the sun rise from behind Fantoma, bringing a new day to Tirol.
“Dear?”
“...uh?”
“Remember to blink.”
“Oh. Thank you.”

“Lisa...you’ve really taken to the girl, haven’t you?”
“She’s a lot like the Zentraedi...born to a purpose, and knowing nothing but the purpose...And maybe a little like myself in those early days...”
“..I remember you saying that once...Military family, born to duty, hardly anything but the mission...”
“Exactly. And now she’s without purpose...adrift...Her mecha’s destroyed, and if the reports the Southern Cross has passed on to us are true, her own commander tried to have her killed...She has nothing, and nobody, to go back to...And she needs something for her to hang onto, when she finally realizes that...”
“...Lisa...”
”...It may as well be us...”
“Lisa, what do you have in mind?”
“I’d like to adopt her, Rick.”

Lisa and Rick Hunter had been there when she learned, once the doctors had judged her well enough to hear it; of her change in status and of the destruction of Unit-00. They’d been there when the UEEF andASC intelligence people had laid out the evidence gathered by the GMP of the Commander’s betrayl....his deliberate abandonment of her, and the unfolding of the vast conspiracy back on her Earth.....
Some part of her had been apalled at what these people had learned about the Commander, and about NERV and the PIlots, had wanted to be angry at the scrutiny she and her comrades had been placed under , had wanted to lash out at them for their gross portrayl of a man she trusted all her life, as she had lashed out at Ikari Shinji not so long ago, when he’d spoken ill of the Commander...
But even with her initial suspicions of the ‘Outsiders’, the news was too real...too complete to be fabrications...too much resonated with a part of herself she’d seldom listened to before, until now...They were truth, and the truth was devastating....The Hunters were straightforward and honest with her; and what they told her was crushing to her; the loss of her Pilot status, the final revelation of what the Commander really had planned for her...and how little -she- mattered in his mind...
The shackles weren’t broken...they were pulled out of her flesh and bone...
“What will I do? What is to be my purpose?” The words came low and uncharascteristically harsh from her lips.
An arm around her shoulders, a hand placed upon her own, and a soft voice answered her.
“Dear, the rest of your life...the rest of your life.”

"Your Grace," she said, "I have only one question. Do you wish this man crippled or dead?"

"My Lady," the protector of Grayson told his Champion, "I do not wish him to leave this chamber alive."

"As you will it, your Grace."

"I know that we're openning up trade with this other Earth, and that things besides military hardware and hard technology are going to be traded..>I mean, their Europe never got wiped out, so champagne's high on the list of requested goods...and we've got to reciprocate with things characteristics and representative of the best of our world and society, but..."

"But what?"

"It is readily clear from the evidence gathered that while adversity has advanced military and aerospace technology on the Other Earth, their culture has taken a nose-dive...Their feudal-military social structure produces little in the way of what we would consider 'art' films or even higher-class entertainment, but instead low-budget bread-and-circuses style moron fodder that could only find an audience in a sealed bomb shelter...
That having been said, I believe I can safely say that this presents an opportunity for us..we can start by dumping last year's direct-to-video remainder stock into their market...It ought to do quite well, while we line up a proper package=deal of our blockbusters.."

Edwards watched as the "Games for Pain" marched Gendo out to the center of the stage. He'd watched as they made him soak himself in tuna oil, fish blood and other fish entrails. They made Genda wear a big three piece suit to soak up as much of the mixture as possible. His to the center of the stage is marked by large puddles from the soaking tank. Then they lowered the rope witha large bar attached. Gendo hesitates when he reaches up to take the bar in his hands. Once he has ahold of the bar and rope he is lifted up a few inches off of the floor.
Once off the floor a section of the back of the stage is opened up along with the curtains. Once this is opened it reveals an area of the pacific ocean and the stage is located on a moving vehicle. But before they let gendo down a couple of men hook up a water ski to each of his feet. Then they slowly lower Gendo to the surface of the water. He surprisingly stays on the skies as the vessel continues to pick up speed.
Something moves in the water behind the vessel.

Announcer::: "Well Gendo, you have forty five more seconds and you get off the hook scott-free. Twenty-five more seconds!"

As the announcer begins to start the final countdown an extremely large male killer whale breaks the surface behind Gendo his eyes go wide as he looks behind him. He tries to dodge but fails as the killer whale chews him up and then spits him out. It slapps it's tail multiple times on the semi floating body of Gendo.

Announcer::: Ewww! That's gotta hurt. Looks like Gendo is so hated even mother nature is taking pot shots at him!"
"Your Grace," she said, "I have only one question. Do you wish this man crippled or dead?"
