We now have art for all but the GMP's backpacks

Unread post by Rabid Southern Cross Fan »

Thanks again to Yui Yuasa for finding the art for the Arming Doublet Packs for all but the GMP!

So, breaking this down, there is no reason (really) to think many of these packs aren't Mission Specific instead of being Environment Specific. We have 5 packs that are for cargo (Tactical Corps, Arctic, Alpine, Cities Defense and ATAC). We see 2 of them are Environment Specific (Arctic & Desert). Five of them are some kind of Jet/Thrusterpack (Recon, Tactical Air Force, TSC, TASC and Naval Corps) and out of those, 2 of them are also air/oxygen units (TSC, Naval Corps) and the Marsh Unit's pack looks like it may be something altogether different because it doesn't have hose attachments to the facemask like the Naval Corps or Tactical Space Corps packs.

(Link for art)
Robotech: The Masters War

So:

Cargo
24-hr Assault Pack (ATAC)
72-hr Pack (Forest)
Medic's Pack (CDU)
Radioman's Pack w/short range Hypercomm: Earth to Moon (Alpine)
Survival Pack (Tactical Corps)

Thruster Packs
Jump Pack (Recon)
Jet Pack, new model (Tactical Air Force)
Jet Pack, old model (CDFC)
Space Pack (TASC)

Thruster/Air Combo Packs
Space Pack (TSC)
Hydro Pack (Naval Corps)

Environmental Packs
Hot Climate Unit (Desert)
Cold Climate Unit (Arctic)

Potluck/Shmoo
Marsh Unit

Its unfortunate the GMP Pack either never was created or is lost art since it would be interesting to see what was designed for them. Presumably the cargo packs would have stuff like velcro to hold in items as well as for attachment (or something else, maybe a magnetic system ala Jason Marker's MIECS)

Easiest to just show all of them. And the art shows how they look attached to the back of an Arming Doublet. And we never got the Forest, Desert, Marsh Division or CDU's pack before now.

So again, courtesy of Yui Yuasa, we now know why there was no GMP pack designed: the lineart for the armor shows no cargo connector points on the back of the armor. Now that this mystery is solved (which again, I place the blame ENTIRELY at the feet of Tommy Yune and Harmony Gold), there is the fact we now also (thanks to Yui) have a complete lineart view of the backs of all the Battloids. Curious how this was apparently artwork given to Palladium that SOMEHOW wasn't included in the Udon Complete Visual Archive. Meaning that HG/Tommy Yune is once again NOT doing his job and disseminating the art for Super Dimension Cavalry: Southern Cross for Robotech fandom to appreciate. Instead, like a lot of things, he hands it out willy-nilly without a thought in his head of how this impacts the fandom.

Basilisk Battloid
Unicorn Battloid
Satyr Battloid
Triton Battloid
Cyclops Battloid
Dryad Battloid
Fenris Powered Suit
Kraken Dive Powered Armor

The Southern Cross Book for Strange Machine Games is about done too, so looks like this generation of the RPG will miss out.

Yep. Also likely won't be in the Savage Robotech version either.

Please pardon my ignorance but what is the Udon Complete Visual Archive? Also, why is i HG/Tommy Yune's job to disseminate art? And if Palladium had this art, wouldn't it be their job to get things right in the RPG?

Its a series of 3 books that is supposed to be the collected artwork for the 3 Robotech chapters.

Also, why is it HG/Tommy Yune's job to disseminate art?

Its Tommy's job because he is the "creative director" at HG and nothing gets done without his approval.

And if Palladium had this art, wouldn't it be their job to get things right in the RPG?

Sadly they flubbed that too. They SHOULD have simply stuck with using the lineart directly from the series in question and leaving the original artwork to being "scenes" that they recreated. There are small, but noticeable details the new art got wrong, the absolute worst offender being the Kraken Dive Power-Amplified Body Armor which looks VERY different from its lineart.

Oh. Thank you. Sounds cool.

Okay but nothing says he has to disseminate art. It's nice he did and would be nicer if it were more complete but it's not something that has to be done.

Using art directly from the series, could be a problem if they have to pay royalties. There are differences but I don't know if they're bad. I'm more bothered by the things that weren't included.
