Oops...
How does 35,000 credits for liquid fuel, 48,000 credits for electric, and 750,000 credits for nuclear sound?

Two requests, though I'm sure you've already covered them somewhere...the MI-24 HIND family and the ZSU-23-4 updated for RIFTS...

The Ontos and the Scorpion were two vehicles that appeared in a modeler magazine I practically grew up reading...great looking vehicles, and effective in their time, and original purpose, but pitched into the 'new war' of Vietnam...inadequate...Still, I have a great affection for the little oddballs...and great respect for the guys who manned them even when they knew the hardware wasn't ideal for the task...Which is why I was so enthused to see the opportunity, with megadamage materials and the reloading missile rifle, to upgrade them into truly effective little monsters...and the lasers were the icing on the cake...

As for the Hind? Kitsune's website has better versions than anything I might come up, though I might tackle them at some point...and the ZSU-23-4? The 'Gunripper' was inspired by them, as well as many of the turret options that appear on many PS vehicles...I imagine, though, that some New Sovietski engineer will resurrect the concept using 'borg heavy guns and a suitably reliable tracked chassis, but progress marches on..

A ZSU-23-4? It'd be very cool to see one of those statted up for the New Sovietski!

Or at least a similar concept vehicle...take the chassis from one of their older tanks, put a turret with four of the the best-ranged rapid fire cannons(nothing bigger than a 30mm though) and attach a good radar system...Toss on a robotic autofire system with IFF gear for that 'shoot it down before human reflexes can' nastiness...

That may open up a whole new visual type for mecha in the game...robot torsos on tracks. I prefer that visual to the commonly accepted "legged robots" so common these days. For powered armor, sure, but anything more than two tons, ground pressure is quickly going to make anything with feet useless on anything but roads...

And you could always give it a wheeled tank body for those who would want that sort of flexibility.

Wheels on armored vehicles are for pansies! They are nowhere near as robust as treads, plus they can't pivot turn, which in forest or urban environments in a lifesaver. Granted for a non-frontline heavy combat vehicle, wheels are the way to go.

That's why I provide the option on the Clysdale armored car, the ability to mount a salvaged CS, NG, CW, or PS-made robot upper torso on top of the vehicle...since seeing the idea presented in 'Gundam' and refined by the hobbymodelists, I've fallen hard for the idea...It's useful, and easy to come by...just knock the legs out from under a CS Enforcer and smoke the crew out, then salvage the rest... :D

Paladin Steel ‘Jackalope’ Infantry Robot

Unread post by taalismn »

Paladin Steel ‘Jackalope’ Infantry Robot
“We had problems adjusting to the lift jets when we were undergoing the first field unit trials....quite a difference doing a gantry-tethered jump on an open-field with chalked range markers and doing an untimed jump in wild country....most of the ‘bot-jocks were more used to LUMBERING bricks, rather than flying bricks, and the knack of positioning in mid-jump to make a landing that helped, rather than hindered, the gyro-balance recovery program hadn’t gotten picked up yet ...So for several months the landscape was littered with big humanoid-shaped craters in the ground and timber-falls in the woods, a lot with a Jackalope still laying at the bottom. Amazed that we didn’t land on a farmer or two and kill somebody just practicing!”

“Sure, the Titan can outrun the Jackalope in a straight-out, straight-line run, but when are you ever going to be in an unrealistic situation like that? No, by the time the sound of the starter gun reaches the Titan pilot’s ears, the Jackalope’s going to have already killed him at least three different ways.”

The PS version of the Titan Light Combat Robot, the Jackalope is another of Paladin Steel's adaptations of the basic Titan series design that has since developed into a wholly different(and arguably original)machine. Like the Pathfinder, the Jackalope is based on a Titan Robot chasiss, but whereas the Pathfinder is primarily a scout machine, the Jackalope is a pure combat machine. The Jackalope trades the Pathfinder's sensor suite and high running speed for armor and armament, and is slightly heavier, larger, and more angular. The head retains the Pathfinder’s vision slit, but also has an armored cover-visor and protective helmet design. The sensor mast is thicker and squat, and mounts several additional systems, including a directional communications laser link and laser illuminator.
To compensate for the reduction of speed, the Jackalope has been fitted with heavy jumpjets(another first for the nascent PS Robotics Division), giving it a limited form of airborne capability. The Jackalope also mounts, as standard, the same opto-camouflage offered as an option on the Pathfinder. The Jackalope was also the first design of PS to be able to use a shield...an inexpensive and quick method of providing combat robots with additional, disposable, protection.
The PS Jackalope is very well armed for its classification; many outsiders beleive that PS was attempting to address the problems of Titan’s ‘middle-mediocre’ Light Combat model by mounting the class of weaponry carried by the larger Titan Assault on the smaller frame. PS engineers contend that more advanced technologies and analysis of other robot designs led them to conclude that they could, and should, mount a more powerful array of armament. In any event, the Jackalope can carry a variety of heavy weapons on both body- and arm-mounts, and retains leg-missile launchers and chest lasers as integral backup weapons.
Jackalopes were intended to give Paladin Steel a heavy armor 'guerilla' capability, as well as to escort and protect the vulnerable Pathfinders and other vehicles, especially when a find has been made. Though they have since been surpassed, since their introduction, by more advanced designs, the Jackalope remains a staple design of the GNE military, serving in most Regular Army armored units as ‘grunt’ mechs.

Cost: 15 million credits and up for a fully-equipped Jackalope
Construction Features:
All standard Robot features, plus:

*Laser Communications System---The mast mounts a directional communications laser and deployable ‘sunflower’ receiver dish for point-to-point laser-comm messsaging(which has the advantage of being nearly impossible to tap/intercept).

*Laser Illuminator---The mast also mounts a ‘painting’ laser for tagging illuminating targets for laser-guided ordnance. Range: 7 miles.

*Thermo-Optic Camouflage System----Based on the Naruni Nomad Scout Robot, this system is another ‘breakthrough’ for Paladin Steel’s reverse-engineering department. The system uses new hull panels of optically-variable micro-‘cells’ and mini-cams to sample and match surrounding environmental color values and light spectra. This system changes color in 1d4 melees and gives the 'bot a limited stealth ability(-20% to Detect Ambush and Detect Concealment roles to find the thing). Also masks the Jackalope's thermal and infrared emissions through special insulation and large heatsinks, making heat sensors useless. Expensive, yes, but how much is not being seen worth to you?

Sensors:
All standard Robot sensors
Weapons Systems:
1) Twin Waist Pulse Lasers---These are similiar to the T-002 Laser Ball Turrets mounted on the Titan Light Combat Robot in both design and mounting, but have slightly better range. Both lasers have a 90 degree arc of fire.
Range: 2,500 ft
Damage: 3d6 MD single shot. 6d6 MD per double blast
Rate of Fire: EPCHH
Payload: Effectively unlimited

2)Leg Mini-Missiles---Mounted on the outside of each leg is a mini-missile launcher, similar to the original.
Range: Varies
Damage: Varies(typically loaded with fragmentation and general purpose high explosive for anti-personnel/vehicle use)
Rate of Fire: Volleys of 1,2, 5, or 10
Payload: 10 mini-missiles per leg, 20 total

3)Backpack Missile Pods(2)---These two pack launchers can be configured to hold a variety of missiles, from mini-missiles to medium range types.
Range: Varies
Damage:Varies
Rate of Fire: Volleys of 1,2, or 5
Payload: 20 mini-missiles, or 10 short range missiles, or 6 medium range missiles per pod. Can also hold 8 PS ‘Black Talon’ L-SAMs.

4)Plasma Sabers(2)---Housed in each thigh compartment/holster is a short-range plasma arc, that snaps out of its armored holster into the hand of the 'bot. Using a small start-up supply of reaction-gas, the plasma saber's heating coils superheat the gas to plasma temperatures, then push it out thru a rapidly-degenerating magnetic confinement field to form a plasma plume or "saber". Once lit, the saber uses local atmospheric gases,
drawn in through the hollow pommel, and heated by coils powered from induction coils in the bot's hand, to keep the reaction going.
Range: 12 ft melee range
Damage: 2d4x10 MD per strike
Rate of Fire: EPCHH
Payload: Unlimited

5) Arm Mount Hardpoint---Each arm has a hardpoint capable of accepting an external weapon, including any of Paladin Steel's MEWS modules). However, only ONE external weapon can be mounted(either arm).
Standard Paladin Steel Weapons Pods include:
*PSAC-1 Autocannon----This is a 35mm gatling cannon. Its reliable, sturdy, and does good damage.
Range: 4,000 ft
Damage: 4d6 MD short (5 rds) burst, 1d4x10 MD long(10 rds) burst, 2d4x10 MD (20 rd) full melee burst
Rate of Fire: EPCHH
Payload:2000 rds

*PSAC-2 Heavy Anti-Armor Cannon
This uses the same ammunition as Paladin Steel’s ‘Hellshot’ cannon Range: 3,000 ft
Damage: 3D6x10 MD per shot
Rate of Fire:3 times per melee
Payload: 10 rds external clip; can be reloaded(up to 2 additional clips can be carried on the hip mount points of the Jackalope).

*PSRW-1 Heavy Rail Cannon---Sometimes called the "Anti-Matter Gun" because it uses depleted-uranium(no, they don't count as U-rounds) hypersonic penetrators to rip into armor.
Range: 5,000 ft
Damage: 2d4x10 +10 MD per rd
Rate of Fire: EPCHH
Payload: 50 rds

*PSEW-144L Rapid-fire Rotary Laser Cannon---A cutdown form of the IH-44L Vulcan Laser ( produced as the PS-44L with IHA expatriate permission after IHA’s annexation by the Coalition)
Range: 4,000 ft
Damage:3d4x10 MD six-shot blast(1 attack)
Rate of Fire: EPCHH
Payload:Effectively unlimited

*PSEW-2 Particle Beam Cannon---An extremely powerful weapon that suffers from a slow recharge rate.
Range: 6,000 ft
Damage: 4d6x10 MD per blast
Rate of Fire: Once per Melee
Payload: Effecttively unlimited

*PSFFRLP-10 Folding Fin Rocket Launch Pod---Before Paladin Steel managed to duplicate the Coalition’s CTT-M20 Missile Rifle, Paladin Steel had adapted helicopter and aircraft missile pods for use on their robots.
MDC: 40
Range: Varies by Missile Type(Mini-Missile)
Damage:Varies by Missile Type(Mini-Missile)
Rate of Fire: Volley of 1-5
Payload: 10 mini-missiles

*PSFFRLP-10 Folding Fin Rocket Launcher---A larger, two-handed box-style launcher holding 20 mini-missiles, instead of 10.
MDC: 45

*PSLML-9-Light Missile Launcher ---A two-handed box-style launcher holding nine short-range missiles. Because the larger missiles have more advanced guidance, the launcher has a fire-control linkage rather than manual trigger and fire rate selector.

*PSHML-8-Heavy Missile Launcher---A two-handed box-style launching rack for eight medium-range missiles. Sometimes called a ‘mini-Katyusha’ after a pre-Rifts Soviet weapon.

6) Smoke Mortars(2)
Range: 500 ft
Damage: None. Obscuring smoke in 20 ft radius.
Rate of Fire: Volleys of 1,2, 3, or 6
Payload: 6 per launcher, 12 rds total

7) Hand to Hand Combat: Equiv to Titan Assault Robot Training from Rifts Main Book
Punch 2d6 MD
Kick 1d6 MD
Body Block/Tackle 2d6 MD
Body Flip/Thow 1d4 MD
Stomp 1d4 MD

Options:
*Applique Armor---This negates the effectiveness of the Poly-Camou, but adds additional protection in the form of extra armor plates mounted on the main body and lower torso.
Light: +100 MDC main body, +80 MDC arms and legs. Cost: 200,000 credits
Medium:+200 MDC main body, +90 MDC arms and legs. Reduce speed by 25% Cost: 300,000 credits
Heavy: +300 MDC main body, +100 MDC arms and legs. Reduce speed by HALF. Cost: 500,000 credits

*Shield----A piece of shaped megadamage armor plate with handgrips bolted on. A cheap, fast, way of enhancing protection that can be thown away when it gets chewed up. Most P.S. shields incorporate ‘kickstands’ or ground-mounting spikes to allow the shield to be stood up and left in place. Typical shield size is about 8 ft tall/wide for the light ‘bucklers’ and 15 ft tall, 10 ft wide, and 2-3 ft deep(many have a slight curve to provide better side-coverage) for the larger ‘infantry’ shields.
a)Light Shield---100 MDC, 200 lbs
b) Medium Shield---200 MDC, 400lbs
c) Heavy Shield---400 MDC, 700 lbs

*Shoulder Gun Mount---Rather than mount the two missile launchers, the Jackalope can mount heavy guns instead. ONE of the following weapons can be mounted in place of a missile launcher:
a)80mm SB Massdriver Cannon(PS-MD80S)
Weight: 3,500 lbs (1.75 tons)
Range: (Direct Fire) 19,000 ft (3.8 miles)
(Indirect Fire) 47,500 ft (9.3 miles)
Damage: High Explosive(HE)----1d4x10 MD to 15 ft radius
High Explosive Anti-Tank(HEAT)---- 3d4x10 MD to 5 ft radius
Fragmentation--- 5d6 MD to 30 ft radius
Plasma----- 1d6x10 MD to 20 ft radius
(APFSDSDU)(Armor Piercing Fin Stabilized Discarding Sabot Depleted Uranium) 3d6x10 MD out to 6,600 ft, 2d4x10 MD out to maximum range
Rate of Fire: 5 shots per melee
Payload: 30 rds

b) 40mm Cannon--A good, reliable, autocannon with excellent range.
Range: 13,000 ft
Damage:(Proximity Fuzed Fragmentation) 3d6 MD to 15 ft blast radius
(Armor Piercing Tracer) 5d6 MD single shot
(High Explosive Tracer) 4d6 MD to 10 ft blast radius
Rate of Fire: EPCHH
Payload: 200 rounds
Cost: 300,000 credits(ammunition costs extra)

c)Plasma Cannon---Adapted from PS’s PPR-3 Serap Heavy Plasma Projector. The weapon also has the option of firing ‘hot shots’ of deuterium-enriched plasma feeding from a pressure cylinder. The Jackalope-mounted Plasma Cannon’s ‘bolt’ mode has slightly better damage characteristics than the regular infantry model.
Range:(Plasma Stream) 2000 ft
(Plasma Bolt) 1500 ft
Damage:(Plasma Stream) 1d6x10 MD per blast*
*Can be increased by 50% with a ‘hot shot’ injection of deuterium gas
(Plasma Bolt) 1d4x10 MD to 10 ft blast radius
Rate of Fire: Single shot, ECHH
Payload: Effectively Unlimited
Deuterium Gas Reservoir has enough gas under pressure for 45 shots.
Cost: 100,000 credits, plus 1,200 credits per deuterium ‘hotshot’ cartridge.

d) Particle Beam Cannon---Effectively a copy of a Triax weapon reverse-engineered from examples traded to PS by Dantegard.
Range: 3,000 ft
Damage: 2d4x10 MD per blast
Rate of Fire: ECHH
Payload: Effectively Unlimited
Cost: 300,000 credits

e)Pulse Laser(PS-RFL-25), the so-called “Prosek’s Gift’ thanks to its being derived from a reverse-engineered Coalition weapon!
Range: 6,000 ft
Damage:2d4x10 MD per blast
Rate of Fire: EGCHH
Payload: Effectively Unlimited
Cost: 400,000 credits

When you mount two honkin' big cannon or raise the missile launchers over the shoulders...yeah, you could say it looks like it's got horns...

There was a bar back in the area I'm from that had one of those stuffed little creatures. And it did have horns. :D And I think those cannons could be mistaken for horns too.
"Your Grace," she said, "I have only one question. Do you wish this man crippled or dead?"

"My Lady," the protector of Grayson told his Champion, "I do not wish him to leave this chamber alive."

"As you will it, your Grace."

If you do not believe the cannons or missile pods are horns. Just stand there, while the pilot unloads a number of rounds provides some reasons why they are called horns.
I hate it when my mind wonders,
Because I have no idea what it will bring back with it.

Good enough reason to accept them as horns! They are very strong little horns!

Paladin Steel Jeep Warrior ATV-40V

Unread post by taalismn »

Paladin Steel Jeep Warrior ATV-40V

“It’s an SUV that can actually DO something...”
“Hey! Don’t knock those pre-Rifts sports utility vehicles....some of those later models were virtually unrecognizable from modern day armored land rovers....Word has it, there are some late model Hollywood Hummers in old California that are STILL running, and still have the original leather and wet bars in ‘em....”

“For chump change, you can outfit your own motorized infantry battalion and know that you’re not going to be Chipwelled with faulty hardware. Of course, you’re not going to be able to take out any Coalition armored battalions or Shemarrian raider parties unless your militia’s very good or very lucky, but at least you won’t have to worry about death by mechanical failure....”
-----Captain Armoc Galagoog, mercenary, ‘Death Dervishes’ Company

The PS ‘Jeep Warrior’ is another one of Paladin Steel’s dirt-cheap multi-purpose vehicles that everyone seems to use, but nobody really notices. Like a hundred or so other designs churned out by Earth’s high tech kingdoms(it seems one of the first priorities and qualifications of any high-tech domain is to produce a Jeep-style vehicle), the Jeep Warrior is boxy, angular, low-cost, low-maintenance, and multi-purpose, if not exactly glamorous. The Jeep Warrior most likely has its origins in pre-Rifts vehicles produced by the early Paladin Steel, or in early vehicles hastily modified and reconstructed by locals during the Dark Ages immediately following the Rifts; nobody knows for certain. But PS can manufacture them, and has been, in quantity, for as long as anyone can remember. With the advance of the company’s fortunes, and the progression of their manufacturing technologies, the design has only become easier, and cheaper, to produce and distribute, and the range of available options has increased.
Despite the added cost(compared to conventional SDC materials), PS has decided to construct the Jeep Warrior with relatively cheap(as such materials go) megadamage composite and ceramic sandwich plate, for a lightweight, more durable, and corrosion resistant vehicle frame. To speed construction, the body and frame are made with a single-piece ejection molding and curing process(in the case of the body shell, the basic form is a single piece plastic-composite with reinforcing ceramic plates later slid and epoxied into special pockets in the form) similar to that used by PS to ‘insta-build’ small water craft. The only real problem is that the vehicle is an open-topped craft; subjecting the riders to the elements and enemies...A folding polyflex armor top can be added, affording scant protection, or a reinforced cabin can be built on, at added cost. If so desired, at some small extra cost, the entire outer body shell can be replaced, exchanging the original angular body for a more rounded, or boat-shaped, or custom-shaped design.
PS has gone to similar lengths to accommodate options under the hood(actually, many of the options are actually more expensive than the base cost of the car itself). The JW can be powered by a variety of drop-in powerplants, typically liquid fuel internal combustion(the Omnivore HP2000 Hybrid-Fuel ICE is a favorite, for its ability to eat anything from moonshine to jet fuel), hydrogen-electric fuel cells, or high-charge battery-electric engines. There are even JWs modified to run on vegetable oil(commercial kitchen waste) and methane(and other fermentation gases) distilled from animal manure or wood chips. The Warrior CAN be fitted with power armor-scale micro-fusion nuclear power packs, but few people feel the added cost is worth installing the more expensive nukes on what is supposed to be an economy ride. The suspension and automatic transmission are reliable, hard-tested systems that have been perfected over decades of hard driving experience over the less than improved roads of Rifts North America.
The Jeep Warrior is extremely common in and around Greater New England, and is used by both civilian and military concerns. Outside of the urban ‘commuters’, the Jeep Warrior(or vehicles like it) are the transportation of choice in the outlying rural portions of the GNE, where reliability and rugged construction are favored over flash and luxury options. As ‘military-grade’ civilian transport, the Jeep Warrior is even more popular and common than PS’s Super-VW and Volkswalkers. Between the various alterations to powerplant, seating features, possible armaments, and ‘snap-on’ body shells, it doesn’t take long for the stock/showroom-model Jeep Warrior to be quickly modified once it hits the street. Many new visitors to Greater New England are surprised to learn that most of the many personal utility vehicles they see on the roads are actually all various forms of the same vehicle.
With Naruni Enterprise’s recent release of its own NDE-66 ‘Rover’ SUV, a price war is expected to break out as Paladin Steel attempts to move the Jeep Warrior, so expect prices to fluxuate downwards as much as 30%, and special offers to be made on option packages!

*Spare set of jumper cables and tool kit
Weapons Systems: None standard

Options:
You didn’t think we’d shirk the options, did you?
Of course, depending on what options you select, your accessorization may cost you more than the baseline vehicle.

*Applique Armor---Adds additional protection(and weight) to the main body. Up to 100 additional MDC can be added, at 7 lbs, and 150 credits, per 1 MDC point. Lighter armor can be substituted, at 1 lb per MDC point, but the stronger polycarbonate armor costs 400 credits per MDC point.

*Armored Wheels----These are solid strung-mesh ‘run flat’ tires that don’t need inflatable inner tubes for shock absorption. 45 MDC each, at 1,300 credits per wheel/tire.

*Armored Cabin----Adds a 60 MDC hardshell sheath around the passengers, including armored doors and windshield. Costs about 10,000 credits. Can be made air conditioned and airsealed with its own independent life support, similar to EBA(2 hour air supply, and 12 hour filtration/recycling) for an additional 30,000 credits.

*Amphibious Operation---Can be fitted for flotation for 4,000 credits. A small outboard motor or hydrojet can be added for an additional 800 credits and can propel the jeep at a leisurely 5 MPH

*Mini-Radar----8 mile range
Cost: 2,000 credits

*Radar Detector----A dashboard ‘fuzzbuster’ for detecting other folk’s radar sensors.
Cost: 200 credits

*Motion Detector----In addition to alerting the driver of approaching objects, it can also tell them from what direction a projectile attack came from. 50 ft range
Cost: 500 credits

*Stabilization Jacks---Tired of being knocked over by concussion blasts, or being rolled over by mobs of zombies before your flamethrowers can get to work? This interesting little system uses Glitterboy-style pylon technology to las and hydraulically drive four stabilizer jacks up to 5 ft into the ground, even through concrete and metal gratings, within 5 seconds, affixing you like a barnacle, and able to stay upright in even hurricane-force winds. System can disengage in 2 seconds, for that speedy getaway.
Cost: 9,000 credits

*Dozer Blade---This is a mini-bulldozer/payloader blade that can be attached to the front, and raised up to 7 ft high by hydraulics, turning the Jeep into a mini-land clearance vehicle. Very popular in winter for snow removal.
MDC of Blade: 80
Cost: 3,000 credits

*Engine Upgrade----A more powerful engine and more efficient power train can be added, improving overall speed, but at greater expense;
Speed: Can improve top speed by up to 50%
Cost: 5,000 credits per 10% of improvement over base.

*Multi-Displacement Engine Mod(available only to liquid-fuel models)---This is a ‘smart’ engine design that allows the engine to run on only a few cylinders in its 16-cylinder engine, rather than all of them all of the time. The engine can run on 4, 8, 12, or all 16, at the flip of a switch. While running on fewer cylinders reduces power and speed, in some circumstances it is prefered, especially when speed isn’t an issue, and fuel economy is.
Speed: Reduce speed by 32 MPH for every 4 cylinders not being used; so the bare minimum of running on four cylinders will result in a maximum possible speed of about 32 MPH. However, for every 4 cylinders taken out of usage, extend range/fuel economy by 10%, so running wholly on 4 cylinders can extend range by 40%(120 miles!).
Cost: 5,000 credits

*Second Engine---A second engine can be dropped into the load bed and connected to the transmission...The increase in speed is not so great, but the second engine increases the power available for towing and hauling. Reduce cargo capacity for the rear bedto 1/4(must be carried on rack above engine housing). Two passengers can hang onto the rack, but not with any sort of comfort.
Speed: Can improve top speed by up to 10%, Can haul up to 5 tons without problem, 12 tons at 1/4 speed
Cost: 7,000 credits for liquid fuel. 8,000 credits for fuel cell, 9,000 credits for electric battery (nuclear NOT available).

*Mag Traction System-----The ‘economy’ version of Pandora’s Virtual Tread Traction System, that allows a vehicle superior handling on wet ground and sloping surfaces. The downside of it is that in anything less than a nuclear-powered vehicle, the energy expenditure can quickly drain the car’s batteries.
Bonuses:+15% to control rolls
Penalties: If driving with a liquid fuel or electric engine, reduce baseline gas mileage/range by 10% per hour of activation that the MagTrac system is engaged.
Cost: 8,000 credits.

*TracCat Treads---This replaces the original wheels, each with a triangular tread unit with three bogie wheels. Top road speed is reduced by 25%, but the vehicle has superior traction and performance on soft surfaces like sand, bog, or snow(no reduction in speed to travel over these surfaces)
Cost:6,000 credits

*Ski-Half Track---This replaces the rear wheels with a four-bogie track unit, and the forward wheels with unpowered ski units(available power is rerouted to the rear treads), for a ski-mobile configuration. Reduce top road speed on regular surfaces by 50%(plus the forward skis make a scraping racket dragging across the ground), but increase top speed on snow and ice by 20%.
Cost:3,000 credits

*High-Mobility Axel Modification(HMAM Hurricane)----This modifies the suspension system so that all four wheels can be steered independently and turned in opposite directions to each other...This allows the vehicle to spin on its own axis for truly amazing turns, and gives a +10% to trick driving maneuvers. Needless to say, this option is VERY popular with Juicers and Crazies.
Cost: 4,000 credits

*Smoke/Grenade Launcher Clusters---Adapted from the Bison hovercycle, these mini-multi-tube grenade/smoke launcher clusters can be added outboard of the wheel wells. Up to 4 can be added...two forward and two aft.
Range: (light) 1,200 ft (heavy) 2,000 ft.
Damage: Varies by Grenade Type (heavy)
Rate of Fire: Volleys of 1-3
Payload: Each launcher has 12 light or 6 heavy grenades each, for a total of 36 light grenades or 18 heavy grenades
Cost: 2,000 credits for both light and heavy varieties(grenades cost extra)

*Light Pintle----The JW can be fitted with a light manually-operated weapon on a roller-bar pintle, typically a light machine gun(up to .50 caliber), rail gun, grenade launcher, or energy weapon.
Cost: 500 credits for basic pintle, weapon is extra

*Heavy Pintle---The JW can accommodate a large weapons pintle on the rear deck(this removes any rear seat passenger or cargo capacity) that can be fitted with a heavy weapon, and remotely controlled from the passenger seat in front. This feature is most commonly seen on military variants. The Heavy Pintle can accommodate ONE of the following:
a) Twin 20mm Automatic Cannon
Range: 3,000 ft

Cost: 9,000 credits, tanker trailer costs an additional 9,000 credits

*Hood Mount Weapons Rack----Again, for extra cost, a reinforced weapons rack can be added to the hood of the Jeep Warrior. It protrudes up somewhat, interfering slightly with forward vision, but adds foreward-firing fire power. Among some of the favorites mounted on the rack, and controlled by a dashboard firing control are:
a) Light 20mm Autocannon
Range: 3,000 ft
Damage:(20 mm) 1d4 MD per shell
4d6 MD per 5 rd burst
1d4x10+4 MD per 10 rd burst
Airburst does 1d4 MD to 2 ft blast radius(single shot)
(20mm TX-1)4d4 MD per shell
1d6x10 MD per 5 rd burst

Cost: 16,000 credits

c) Flamethrower------400 ft range, does 3d6 MD per burst, plus does an Additional 2d6 MD per melee for 1d6 melees, 10 shots, 30,000 credits

d)Grenade Launcher---Modified rifle-grenade launcher firing larger(and more destructive) projectiles than those associated with underbarrel ‘shotgun’ or pump-action launchers...This is basically a four-shot ‘spigot mortar’ assembly allowing up to four rifle-grenades to be mounted on the forward hood and fired by an electronic switch attached to the dashboard. The launchers can be angled upto a 45-degree angle. Can sometimes be mistaken for a mini-missile launcher.
Range: Typically 1,800 ft
Damage:
(Riot)---Combination flash-bang and rubber pellet charge---Victims are -10 to strike, parry, and dodge, -1 to initiative, and lose 1 APM for 1d4 melees. Rubber pellets do 1d4 SDC damage, but have a 60% chance of knockdown for any human-sized, or smaller, beings, caught in a 10 ft blast radius.....lose initiative and 1 APM for that melee(cost: 80 credits)
(Fragmentation-SDC) 2d4x10 SDC to 20 ft blast radius(cost: 100 credits)
(Fragmentation-MD) 3d6 MD to 25 ft blast radius(cost: 280 credits)

(Plasma/Micro-Fusion) 1d6x10 MD to 8 ft blast radius (cost: 800 credits)
(Incendiary) 2d6 MD flash damage to 12 ft blast radius, plus does 1d4 MD per melee for 2d4 melees(cost: 350 credits)
(Acid)---4d6 MD to a 5 ft radius, then diminishes in strength by 1d6 each melee(lasts about 4 melees)(cost: credits)
(Chemical) Effects vary, but contains enough chemical agent to cover a 15 ft radius
(Illumination) Can loft to an altitude of 600 ft, and illuminate a 500 ft radius for 4d4 melees. (cost: 15 credits)
Note: Additional grenade types, including TW munitions, are constantly in development.

Rate of Fire: Volley of 1-4
Payload: 4. Must be externally hand-reloaded. Typically takes 2 APMs to reload a single round
Cost: The firing assembly costs 8,000 credits. Rifle grenades cost extra.

e) Mini-Missile Launcher----Holds up to 4 mini-missiles(fires volleys of 1-4). Cost: The firing assembly costs 9,500 credits. Mini-missiles cost extra.

f) Micro-Missile Launcher---The advent of PS micro-missiles has led to a variety of different new mountings being tried. The JW has been tested with a large, wide, multi-tube ‘xylophone’ box launcher that fires the earlier Pattern-1A and -1B missiles. Though damage per individual missile is low, their range is quite good, and their small size means that many missiles can be carried, and fired, to devastating effect, in a volley. The actual launcher consists of four launcher boxes arrayed across the front of the vehicle. Bringing to mind the ‘Metalstorm’ guns of the past, each box-cassette has 25 micro-mssiles(5 rows of 5) for a total of 100 projectiles, and can fire them in volleys of 5 to all 100 at once. The entire set-up weighs in at 80 lbs,
Range:
Pattern-1A 5,700 ft
Pattern-1B 6,000 ft
Damage/Bonuses:
Pattern-1A---1d4 MD to 2 ft blast radius
Pattern-1B---1d6 MD to 5 ft blast radius
Bonuses:
Pattern-1A (None) Spin-Stabilized
Pattern-1B (None) Gyro-Compass Chip
Rate of Fire: Volleys of 5-100
Payload: 25 missiles per box, 100 total
Cost: 40,000 credits for the launcher
Pattern-1A 25 credits per McM
Pattern-1B 32 credits per McM

80mm would be a very scary thing to look at from the target's prespective.

This was lingering on my harddrive for a while, despairing of completion, but I have a habit of picking up cheap books from the local chain-store's bargain table...Barnes and Noble puts out a serious of in-house print books that are collections of pictures and description on various topics, like Prototype Aircraft, Artillery, Worst Aircraft/Weapons/Cars, Classic Motorcyles, that give me some reference material...the latest I picked up was 'Dream Cars'...Now, I know SQUAT about automobiles(I drive an old 1991 Honda Civic with rust stains on the sides and more scratches and dings than an artillery range target-vehicle...I love that car, but it's been better to me than I've been to it...), but the concept cars' book gave me enough ideas for features that were considered cutting edge in the here-and-now....
The pages on the Jeep Hurricane(google it and see...you will be amazed) just put the old Jeep Warrior over the top, and gave me what I needed to finish this and give it some dynamic drive...

So more cars are probably in the future...

Now if only I can finish up my Splugorth garage-refurbished TW-enhanced Tucker Torpedo....

You can always add it in the next incarnation of it. Version 2.0! :D
"Your Grace," she said, "I have only one question. Do you wish this man crippled or dead?"

"My Lady," the protector of Grayson told his Champion, "I do not wish him to leave this chamber alive."

"As you will it, your Grace."

for those too lazy to look it up themselves: Jeep Hurricane

of course, in the PS application, it's really more along the lines of the Internally Transportable Vehicle the Marines are contracting for. Jeep is one of the companies competeing, with a vehicle that is a sort of modernized Willys jeep

This site has better pictures and shows how it works as well - Jeep Hurricane. Withe the flexable steering you could almost equip them like ww2 fighter or attack helicopter. Fast Attack Vehicle or lighter weight Dune Buggy anyone.
I hate it when my mind wonders,
Because I have no idea what it will bring back with it.

When I saw the Hurricane turning inside its own length..yeah, I IMMEDIATELY realized the Warrior HAD to have that capability, if only so some Crazy would use his Trick Driving capability to do a full speed 180 turn and suddenly be screaming head-on at any pursuers...

In a second mode, the rear wheels turn in the same direction as the front wheels, meaning the Hurricane can "crab-steer" -- move to the side without changing the direction that it faces.

A third mode, utilizing the "T-Box Zero Steer" mechanism, allows all four wheels to "toe-in" and changes the drive direction to each wheel so that they alternate. The result? The Jeep Hurricane has a turning radius of zero. The Hurricane can actually rotate in place.

High-Mobility Axel Modification does allow Crab-Steering right.

Was just thinking that you drive circles around heavier combat vehicles, like fighter or helicopter just on the ground. Unless the Jeep Warrior can also jump like your VW Bug can as an option or stock feature.

Grasshopper suspension....yeah...gotta consider that as an option...That would make this thing, short of having a robot-walker and/or hovermode, a major monster in the mobility department... :D

Zounds...That's what I need to salvage my old wheeled Lynx tank...Gotta fit this system to it...

Well, considering it's just a matter of slipping on a new body (and the body's mainly a ceramic-composite shell made in a mold like small craft are made in Maine these days....
If the molding jig's not already set up(and I'm thinking maybe the next development will be a flexible contour mold-press that allows for quick alterations to the blank being molded)....8,000-11,000 credits? More if additional MDC is molded into the body.... Drop that price to 2,000 credits or ultimately to baseline if the design is mass-produced at the same MDC values(since it's the styling, and not anything else, that's been altered)...

Sounds like some very interesting additions coming soon to our locale PS dealerships. I can't wait to see the Lynx tank updated and added to the forum.

Think wheeled tank with 100mm massdriver cannon, a mouthful of missiles, and the ability to turn on you like a wild cat with a prehensile tail...

Paladin Steel Portable Scrambler Shelter

Unread post by taalismn »

Portable Scrambler Shelter

“Ah, it is best to attack under cover of night! Most beings are terrified and confused by darkness, relying as they do on sight to go about their business. But at night, only those of us properly equipped to sense in the darkness can move with confidence, while those other prey-species...their confidence turns to confusion, and fear, and rout! In all my years serving the Empire of Splynncryth, my most successful attacks have been at night, and this is no different! See, sub-altern, how the village’s defenders fall before us! See how they fall before us, unable to see but a fraction of our strength, while we can see them in all their helplessness!.Tonight we ride all the way to...(BAM!)(BAM!)WHAT!? Where did THOSE come from!? Where did they ALL....GAH!!!!!(FWHOOOSH!!!)
---Kydian Combat Master Thus-Algan, Georgia, 110 PA.

This is a portable folding shelter that can be erected in minutes, providing protection from the elements, limited megadamage protection, as well as concealment from electronic and infra-red/thermographic detection.
The ‘Shelter’ consists of a yard-long ‘pod’ that looks like a spitoon. When activated, about a dozen articulated ‘spider leg’ structural members of carbon composite branch out, anchor themselves in the ground, and form the skeleton of a dome-shaped igloo roughly 6 ft tall by 12 ft in diameter. The pod then deploys a cover sheet of special plastics, with a camouflage print, and integral sensor-baffling elements.
The Camouflage pattern sheet can be chemo-switched to any one of seven different configurations. The support elements create a degaussing ‘bubble’ that scrambles radar signals(incoming and outgoing), as well as disrupting magnetic resonances(fouling Magnetic Anomaly Detectors), while the fabric itself insulates and disipates the infra-red and thermal emissions and signatures of the occupants, rendering those means of detection less effective.
To compensate for the lack of visibility suffered by those inside the shelter, the central pod(now suspended from the center of the igloo’s ‘ceiling’) has an extendable fiber-optic periscope that allows the occupants to scan the surrounding terrain without blowing their cover.
Care must be taken in setting up the Shelter---The igloo is not invisible to naked eyeball optical searches, so ‘blending’ the shelter into the natural landscape contours is essential for best results. For maximum comfort, a ground sheet or surfacing can be put down first.
The entire shelter can deploy/retract for stowage in 1 melee
The Scrambler Shelter has proven of less value in Xiticix territory---though it fools the insectoids’ visual searches(with careful attention to camouflaging it in the landscape), it has proven less successful at fooling their sense of smell...and cannot hide the PPE-scent of any magic user taking refuge within.
Date of Introduction: 109 PA
Weight: 25 lbs
MDC: The tent provides about 60 MDC of protection, however, against explosions, it is less effective(being non-rigid, shockwaves pass through its fabric), so explosives will do HALF damage to the occupants, regardless of how much MDC is left in the tent.
Bonuses:
Special Features:
*Water-proofing
*Fire Proofing---Can handle temperatures up to 300 degrees centigrade. Normal fires do NO damage
*Minimal Radiation Shielding(not advised for long-term usage in 'hot zones')
*Chameleon-cloth Fabric---Can assume one of seven pre-set color configurations.
*Thermal Insulation-Infrared and Thermographic sensors are -20% to detect the shelter.
*Electronic Insulation- Radar, MAD, and EM sensors are -15% to detect the shelter
*Extendable Fiber-optic Periscope
Cost: 50,000 credits; currently unavailable outside the GNE

Nice.

Does this come in a ponch or Ghillie suit for snipers, maybe Ghillie "Popp-em" shooter tent with “Gnat” RPVs look outs/target finders? Armored car covers? Does the Camouflage work on parachutes? So you can freak out Crazies by jumping out of a plane without a chute in sight and land safely.

That ends the short list.

ChemicalToliet would do the job. The Shelter is designed to hide, have you been with in 50 feet of an outhouse on a normal day. If it's hot half a mile, up wind.

But is there an Outhouse in the catalog?
