Normal and cyber-docs in the CS military

Unread post by ryokoryu »

In the CWB it breaks down roles and ranks and there are CD's and Doctors, no the combat medic MOS doesn't count. The only reason they have medical doctor was to save space explaining why they can field surgery. Thing is I can't find the military specific versions of these and was wondering if they are in another book or just not in the game as of yet. Which of these is the case?

CWC, p. 53-54: you're talking about "Service Specialists" (which is the only mention of Body-Docs & Cyber-Docs, as the CS Technical Officers are mentioned on p. 53 in the discussion of ranks & how they equate to "line" soldiers & officers).

Basically, what it comes down to is this:

CS military personnel (i.e. holding an actual rank, be it enlisted or commissioned) would be a CS Technical Officer with the appropriate MOS (in this case Medical MOS). Their rank would be appropriate to their actual job function (i.e. medics attached to front-line units would mostly be enlisted, with low-level officers possibly acting as a liaison at the battalion-level or higher; MASH-type doctors & nurses would be higher-level enlisted and/or low- to mid-level officers; etc.). While generally only issuing orders to those in their own chain of command (i.e. within their medical/MASH support units), in an emergency a CS Technical Officer that is the highest-ranking available officer could assume command of & issue orders to the personnel in a combat unit.

Body-Docs & Cyber-Docs would be hired as "Service Specialists" (aka "S-Specs") on an as-needed basis for a specific contract (i.e. 6-12 month contract, "in the support of operations near Fort Such-and-Such during the winter campaign season", etc.). They will have some sort of security clearance, but their access to briefings is at the election of the ranking military officer, & they have zero authority to even give orders to a lowly Private.
Basically, they're like mercs: they're hired for a specific job/job function, but they're never actually part of the military.

I've wondered that for a while and I think that the CS Technical Officers would be the doctors in the MASH units. Unless they've got rank then a base hospital. Body Fixers and Cyber Docs would be mostly working in those base hospitals. They'd be able to give some orders, concerning their patients or the area they're assigned but that's it.

On the flip side, p52 says a Cyber-Doc can be up to a Major, and a Medical Doctor up to a Colonel.

So I'd say there's both medical S-specs and traditional uniformed personnel.

this reminds me that I do not know what Desmond Bradford's rank is, nor what the experience requirements are to become a 20th level cyberdoc
