idea: Chi-Town soldiers sent forward in time from FoM attack

Unread post by Axelmania »

We know there was at least one Temporal Wizard amongst the early FOM (Alistair's dad Nostrous Dunscon) so he could've had the spell that sent people forward in time.

Although it's a costly spell and there could be cheaper alternatives for dealing with enemies if you had limited PPE, if you were prepping scrolls (I think it was too high level to put on a Talisman) you could use that as a means of sending enemy combatants into the future, instantly eliminating them as a threat while perhaps keeping them available as future slaves, not to mention capturing their gear, at a more convenient moment when you've had lots of time to prep and fortify the place you disappeared them.

Perhaps this could've happened during the original attack on Chi-Town. Before Joseph lead the Bloody Campaign. Before the Vanguard were peacefully paid to go start new lives. Before the Coalition States was actually formed from Chi-Town unifying with other city-states. Before Joseph was election chairman.

I don't know how far forward they might feasibly have been sent, but is it possible the CS actually welcomed such time-travelers back with open arms?

The greater the leap, the more potential problems might be associated with re-acclimating these people to modern CS society, but it should be feasible.

The CS might even hold them up as victims, like for example parents who missed their kids growing up or something like that. Spouses who return to see their widows/widowers remarried. The horrors of magic!

If that's the case though: it could also be a window to them accepting guys from even further back like Chaos Earth, the Golden Age, or even modern modern earth.

Of course the further back, the more the CS would need to analyze/process them to "help" them become accustomed to modern society (ie see if they had useful info, make sure they had correct outlooks, etc)

they're marked down as dead from the magic and anyone showing up later "pretending" to be them are executed as spies attempting to infiltrate the CS. if they're true patriots, they'll understand as far as the coalition cares.

Seems a bit extreme to me. Is the CS going to start murdering all grunts who get tossed through mystic portals too?

The CS would likely do this. Yes. Unless they could confirm that they haven't been replaced or compromised.

If they were grunts? The CS would kill them. Easy and peasy. They can easily replace grunts. Especially if those grunts are already declared KIA.

If there is a Commander or officer they might put them under 24 hour surveillance and restrict access while subjecting them to psychic probes and what not.

Agreed.

That's a risk any time they go off alone anyway (the grunt coming back from the bushes could be a changeling/dragon) so I think they'd just always be doing identity check procedures, portal or not.

In-universe where are we told the CS does that?

The bit in the conversion book about them d-bees put it in quotes like it was a out-of-universe joke.
