By RUE Field Armorer and Munitions subsumes Basic Mechanics (which itself subsumes General Repair & Maintenance) and is a slightly more consistent yet substantially less effective version of Weapons Engineer to which I'd include at least some aspects of Vehicle Engineer. The Bionics Sourcebook, pp 67-8 give a character with the skill some capability at making field repairs. In a somewhat handwavy game I'd say a character with the skill could without any real dip into downtime provide maintenance on the personal arms of characters without appropriate training.

I equate it with the military version of a person who can restore tools or machinery. check out this video as an example: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6iDJNGdMFls. the guy can disassemble, clean, repair then reassemble the item to like new condition from a broke, rusty POS.

Them imagine it with guns.

This skill represents an advance version of my Marine Corps MOS when I served. Small Arms Repairer/Technician (MOS 2011) school was a 10 week training at Aberdeen Proving Grounds in Maryland. I went through in early 1992, so I can't speak to the present set up.
We were taught the ins and outs of each weapon system of the time, spent about a week on each one.
In the game setting, it's an incredibly versatile skill, covering considerably more than we were taught in the real thing.

I would argue that Field armorer is actually comparable or more limited that a full armorer MOS which it sounds like you may have had.

now I will note there are a few ways in which it is a bit more expansive, but mostly due to the armor aspects.

Armorer/Field Armorer
+Maintain, fix, modify, mount, reload/charge, and figure out most small arms.
+Can repair all types of pistols and rifles.
+Can repair minor damage to body armor (20 MDC).
+Can adjust target sights.
+Can use and repair optical enhancements.
+Can reload missiles and ammo drums.
+CAN RECHARGE E-CLlPS
+Can install/mount a rail gun or machinegun on a vehicle.
+Can fix most simple robot and bionic weapons.
+?Can make arrows and arrowheads.
+Can sharpen blades/weapons.
+?Can make horseshoes and basic metal items such as nails, spikes, chain links.
? Can deactivate, reset, and fix simple traps.

+Automatically gets the Basic Mechanic skill at 30+5%/level.

My view is that the weapon repair, maintenance, loading and charging should actually be covered under the WP skill because my understanding is that military troops are typically trained to tear their assigned weapons down to individual components, and clean and reassemble them and have them function. the "next level" competitions some branches use are to increase the difficulty, such as tear down multiple weapons, such as m16, m60, saw, pistol, etc. and dump all the parts into a container, then have the person reassemble all of them and setting aside parts that do not belong to the specific weapons. and then do it timed and or blindfolded.

the full up armorer can do more and more complex repairs.

to break it down a little more practical terms.

WP can do "field repairs"
field armorer can do expedited and or "base" level repairs
the full armorer can do Depot level repairs.

I do not think there is a full armorer skill but there is a weapon engineer. They could build and design weapons so if they can not fix it, it might not be fixable

I would say wp does weapon maintenance cleaning checking for problems and clearing jams. Replace broken parts.
The Clones are coming you shall all be replaced, but who is to say you have not been replaced already.

Master of Type-O and the obvios.

Soon my army oc clones and winged-monkies will rule the world but first, must .......

I may debate canon and RAW, but the games I run are highly house ruled. So I am not debating for how I play but about how the system works as written.
