Vehicles in the Burbs

Unread post by shadrak »

GrandTrav:
The company known as GrandTrav is a fairly large private company owned by a member of the Chi-Town elite. With a corporate headquarters in a town just to the west of the fortress city of Chi-Town, GrandTrav has factory locations in several cities throughout the Coalition States.
GrandTrav vehicles are not particularly advanced (roughly equivalent to vehicles built in the 1970s and 1980s), they are quality vehicles and GrandTrav produces large quantities of spare parts that are available throughout the Coalition States.
GrandTrav vehicles can be found throughout North America and the Coalition has not seemed too concerned with the resale of these vehicles (it provides a great economic opportunity for the Coalition and GrandTrav vehicles are hardly a threat to Coalition military and economic dominance).

Breckenridge Motors
Breckenridge Motors is the brain child of an independent operator with a workshop well outside of Coalition Territory. While the workshop produces vehicles and parts for sale to the general public, Breckenridge’s system that allows small mechanics shops to produce similar models using tools and parts available from his manufacturing plant or from commonly sourced components make the Breckenridge vehicles common across North America. They may not all look identical, but you can find a Breckenridge or a Breckenridge part anywhere!

Model: Huckster Heavy Truck
Make: Breckenridge Motors
Description: This a rather large (though somewhat inefficient) 2.5 ton truck. Often times, a Huckster is the first truck a farm will get that enables it to graduate from the use of animal-powered transport. The Huckster most often looks like a large cargo truck from the 1930’s.
Crew: 1 Passengers & Cargo: 2 + 7000 lbs.
Engine: Diesel Range: 240 miles (30 gallons)
Maximum Speed: 60 mph on road, 30 mph off road
Size: 34 feet long Weight: 10,000 lbs.
SDC by location: Main Body: 200 Wheels (10): 50 ea.
Cost: The total cost of a new Huckster is about 30,000 credits, but they can be picked up cheaper, often

Model: Stevedore Pickup Truck
Make: Breckenridge Motors
Description: The Stevedore is a heavy-duty pickup truck that is fairly inefficient, but it is easily built out of commonly available or easily machined parts. While the Stevedore varies dramatically in appearance, most look similar to a pickup truck from the 1930’s or ‘40’s.
Crew: 1 Passengers & Cargo: 2 + 1700 lbs.
Engine: Diesel Range: 300 miles (20 gallons)
Maximum Speed: 60 mph on road, 30 mph off road
Size: 22 feet long Weight: 3500 lbs.
SDC by location: Main Body: 140 Wheels (4): 25 ea.
Cost: The total cost of a new Stevedore is about 12,000 credits.

Model: Highwayman Sedan
Make: Breckenridge Motors
Description: This is a vehicle that can be built in just about any operator’s shop. Because of this, it is fairly common despite it being relatively inefficient and costly. Like other Breckenridge designs, each vehicle is unique, and the appearance varies greatly.
Crew: 1 Passengers & Cargo: 4 + 300 lbs.
Engine: Gasoline Range: 150 miles (15 gallons)
Maximum Speed: 70 mph on road, 25 mph off-road
Size: 13 feet Weight: 3,200 lbs.
SDC by location:
Cost: The total cost of a new Highwayman is about 9,000 credits but much of this is for parts and labor that can be massively discounted by fabricating and recycling parts and by constructing the vehicle personally.

ExploTran
ExploTran is a company that operates out of the Coalition State of Missouri. The company holds several contracts with the Coalition Military to produce small SDC vehicles and utility items for use in garrison and training environments. The company also offers a line of utility vehicles and mobile homes

Model: “Golf Cart” UTV
Make: ExploTran
Description: The Golf Cart is a small, multipurpose utility vehicle that is capable of traversing extreme terrain including grades in excess of 30 degrees. The vehicle is also capable of towing up to 1600 lbs.
The Golf Cart is a popular vehicle to armor with MDC composites as it is relatively cheap and is mobile and powerful enough to function as a military scout vehicle. ExploTran recently launched their own conversion when they launched the “LandRambler” MDC, off-road mobile home. The conversion kit consists of MDC body panels and tires as well as an MDC windshield and costs 10,000 credits. After the conversion, the ExploTran modified vehicle has 45 MDC on the main body, 25 MDC per tire, and a windshield with 20 MDC.
Crew: 1 Passengers & Cargo: 2 + 800 lbs.
Engine: Gasoline Range: 150 miles (10 gallons)
Maximum Speed: 50 mph on road, 35 mph off road
Size: 9 feet long Weight: 1400 lbs.
SDC by location: Main Body: 45 Tires (4): 30 ea. Plexiglass: 30
Cost: 6,500 credits

Model: Sahara Multi-purpose Hovercraft
Make: ExploTran
Description: Unlike many more expensive hovercraft, the Sahara does not use vectored thrust. Instead, it uses a plenum chamber and is similar to hovercraft used in the 20th century.
The Sahara is occasionally used on roads as though it was a normal passenger vehicle, but it is most often used in rural areas that lack improved roads. The Sahara is capable of traversing vertical obstacles up to 3 feet high and it can travel across bodies of water with waves up to 3 feet high.
Crew: 1 Passengers & Cargo: 2 & 200 lbs.
Engine: Gasoline Range: 400 miles (30 gallons)
Maximum Speed: 90 mph
Size: 15 feet long Weight: 1200 lbs.
SDC by location: Main Body: 60 Plenum Chamber: 100
Cost: 16,000 credits

Model: LandRambler Motorhome
Make: ExploTran
Description: The LandRambler is ExploTrans’ off-road, MDC motorhome that the company has designed and built from the ground up.
The LandRambler is a fully integrated exploration vehicle that is occasionally used by military forces conducting long patrols. It has a large refrigerator and freezer unit and a well-functioning kitchenette. The kitchenette can function on gas and electric power.
The system has water purification/desalination unit and a condenser to supply potable water.
The system has full functioning shower and hygiene systems including a laundry unit that will wash and dry clothing.
The LandRambler has an exceptionally large storage area beneath the main living area that can allow for the transport of a small vehicle (often a couple of motorcycles, a “Golf Cart” with the wind screens removed, or a low-slung dune buggy) as well as the storage and transport of a large quantity of cargo.
Crew: 1 Passengers & Cargo: 5 and 2000 lbs.
Engine: Diesel Range: 650 miles (100 gallons)
Maximum Speed: 55 mph on road, 30 mph off-road
Size: 34 feet long Weight: 14,000 lbs.
MDC by location: Main Body: 200 Wheels (6): 35 ea. Windows (7): 20 ea.
Cost: 55,000 credits

Model: Sojourner Motorhome
Make: ExploTran
Description: The Sojourner was originally a conversion of several different models of heavy SDC trucks and was known as the Caravan. Since the LandRambler was released, ExploTran has redeveloped the Caravan as a fully integrated, purpose-built motorhome. Featuring the same characteristics as the Caravan, the Sojourner seating for up to three additional passengers. In order to function as a camper, the vehicle must be stopped to allow the two slide-outs to be deployed.
The camper has a kitchenette with a microwave oven and an electric range as well as a refrigeration unit that are powered by a battery system that utilizes power from the engine as well as roof-mounted solar cells as an auxiliary. The system also contains a relatively robust civilian/non-encrypted radio system as well as a condenser that can produce up to five gallons of water in normal environmental conditions. The system has a 100-gallon potable water tank as well as a 100-gallon gray water tank and a 100-gallon black water tank.
A standard E-Clip is normally enough power to cook ten meals and power the refrigerator for five days and hot showers for all four members of the crew. Since the environmental controls are also powered by this battery, users can expect that the Sojourner will consume twice as much energy per day in extreme environments like arctic or desert conditions.
Though the Sojourner is a relatively small vehicle, the slide-outs enable up to four people to sleep in their own beds, and the vehicle has a 150 cubic foot storage area.
The Caravan is a “pod” that can be installed on the back of any heavy truck and, with the exception of the storage area, has the same features as the Sojourner.
Crew: 1 Passengers and Cargo: 3 and 1300 lbs.
Engine: Diesel Range: 500 miles (60 gallons)
Maximum Speed: 60 mph on road, 25 mph off road
Size: 23 feet long Weight: 7,000 lbs.
SDC by location: Main Body: 220 Windshield/Windows (5): 25 ea. Wheels (4): 25 ea.
Cost: 25,000 credits

Altrian Sportswear
Altrian Sportswear is a company operating out of Northern Gun that primarily produces adventure and sporting gear and clothing but has recently entered into vehicle production both for sport and recreation. Some of their models, however, are well suited towards covert activities or even military support. Altrian is capable of producing items and equipment at a technological level similar to the 2030’s-40’s.

Model: Zippy Aquasled Personal Watercraft
Make: Altrian Sportswear
Description: The Zippy is unique in that it can be modified from positive buoyancy to neutral buoyancy and can function on the surface of a body of water or below it.
When operating on the surface of a body of water, the Zippy can be ridden like a small jet ski. When operating under the water, the Zippy pulls its rider along.
The electric battery can be recharged off of an E-Clip and a single E-Clip contains enough energy to power the Zippy for two hours.
Crew: 1 Passengers and Cargo: 0 + 20 lbs.
Engine: Electric Range: 2 hours
Maximum Speed: 25 mph
Size: 4 feet long Weight: 40 lbs.
SDC by location: 25 SDC
Cost: 2,800 credits

Model: Garwind Powered Wing
Make: Altrian Sportswear
Description: The Garwind Powered Wing is not nearly as advanced as many of the jet packs that are available for installation on a set of body armor, but it is more accessible for non-military use and it uses commonly available power sources.
The Powered Wing consists of a rigid, man-sized airfoil wing that provides lift and control during a descent along with a powered propeller that provides forward thrust.
Generally, the Garwind requires the user to deploy (“launch”) from an elevated location and to descent to a lower location, though the glide ratio for the unit exceeds 7:1 and the power sources enable 1 or 2 hours of flight (electric and gasoline respectively) so the unit can travel over significant distances especially with the judicious use of thermals.
Additionally, the electric model is stealthy and almost impossible to detect visually or audibly when the unit is travelling above 2000 feet above the ground.
The electric model, like the Zippy, can be recharged by an E-Clip with a single E-Clip capable of powering it for an hour.
Crew: 1 Passengers & Cargo: 0 + 35 lbs.
Engine: Gasoline or Electric Range: 2 hours gasoline, 1-hour electric
Maximum Speed: 50 mph
Size: 3 feet long, 4 feet wide Weight: 45 lbs.
SDC by location: 30 SDC
Cost: 3,500 credits

Model: Freeborn Powered Cycle
Make: Altrian Sportswear

The advanced, lightweight frame is composed of some of the most advanced SDC materials commonly available. The inside of the frame contains all controls and power elements both for the bicycle and the electric motor and drive elements.
The battery system can hold a charge roughly equivalent to a long E-clip and the system can accept E-Clips to recharge.

Autek Industries
Autek is a civilian vehicle manufacturer operating in Chi-Town and marketing vehicles throughout the Coalition States and even in the NGR and Northern Gun. Autek produces exceptionally advanced sports and luxury vehicles with price tags that rival military vehicles. Like most civilian vehicles, Autek offerings lack nuclear capabilities, but they do feature some of the most non-nuclear power systems available on the market.
Owning an Autek in post-Rifts Earth is similar to owning a Ferrari or Lamborghini in the 20th century.

Model: Supra Sportscar
Make: Autek Industries
Description: The Supra is Autek’s priciest and most advanced offering for a vehicle. The body is composed of advanced, lightweight MDC materials and the engine is capable of putting out a tremendous amount of power. Like many vehicles that are optimized for on-road performance, the Supra can be damaged if it is taken off-road or even if it is driven in poor conditions.
The Supra’s computer has a limited AI functionality that can operate as an autopilot with a 75% skill rating in Pilot: Automobile. Alternatively, the computer provides a human or D-Bee operator with a +20% bonus to Pilot: Automobile.
A “security package” that costs 150,000 credits can be installed that raises MDC 400%, increases off-road speed to 50 mph, and includes the installation of an autonomous, hidden machinegun turret is available to select individuals in the Coalition that receive the proper licensing.
Crew: 1 Passengers & Cargo: 1 and 200 lbs.
Engine: Fuel Cell Range: 450 miles (15 gallons fuel)
Maximum Speed: 320 mph on road, 15 mph off road
Size: 14 feet long Weight: 2,800 lbs.
MDC by location: Main Body: 12 Wheels (4): 4 ea.
Cost: 550,000 credits

Model: VeryOn Sportscar
Make: Autek Industries
Description: The name “VeryOn” is a tongue in cheek response to a critic’s panning of this model as a budget conscious model for “Everyone” that was going to water down the Autek brand. The VeryOn does not have the same panache as the Supra, but it is clearly a super car in its own right…and despite being a lower cost model, it still costs more than most Coalition citizens can expect to make for most of their lifetimes.
The vehicle computer grants the operator a +15% bonus to Pilot: Automobile.
Crew: 1 Passengers & Cargo: 2 and 350 lbs.
Engine: Fuel Cell Range: 400 miles (10 gallons fuel)
Maximum Speed: 225 mph on road, 15 mph off road
Size: 12 ½ feet long Weight: 2,400 lbs.
SDC by location: Main Body: 250 Wheels (4): 20 ea.
Cost: 230,000 credits

Model: Streetking Motorcycle
Make: Autek Industries
Description: The Streetking Motorcycle is unusual for the Autek brand in that it is not technically a “super motorcycle”. Instead, while it is a highly advanced urban motorcycle that exceeds the capabilities of most other racing motorcycles, it is capable of movement over very rugged urban terrain. The frame and body are composed of lightweight MDC materials as well.
The Streetking has become very popular with messenger services that move through dangerous environments as well as street racers and wealthy motorcycle gangs.
The gyro-stabilizers and computer grant an operator a +15% bonus to Pilot: Motorcycle.
Crew: 1 Passengers/Cargo: 0 + 30 lbs.
Engine: Fuel Cell Range: 400 miles (4 gallons of fuel)
Maximum Speed: 165 mph on road, 50 mph off-road
Size: 7 feet long Weight: 350 lb
MDC by location: Main Body: 10 Wheels (2): 4 ea.
Cost: 180,000 credits

Model: Kanuni High Performance Personal Helicopter
Make: Autek Industries
Description: The Kanuni is a very lightweight VTOL that is capable of transporting a single passenger to many inaccessible locations at fairly high speeds. It consists of an open cockpit suspended under two contra-rotating rotors. It has a general shape of a light, winged aircraft that provides for excellent control. It sometimes serves as the platform for the development of an armored military aerial support unit.
Crew: 1 Passengers & Cargo: 1 and 150 lbs.
Engine: Fuel Cell Range: 250 miles (20 gallons)
Maximum Speed: 275 mph
Size: 19 feet long Weight: 1200 lbs.
MDC by location: Main Body: 35 Rotors (2): 15 ea.
Cost: 205,000 credits

Model: Arxa
Make: Autek Industries
Description: The Arxa is a small SUV-type vehicle produced by Autek industries. The Arxa is capable of high off-road speed and the frame and body are composed of MDC materials. Still, the Arxa is NOT a military vehicle. The drive and front-seat passenger sit in what can only be described as a luxurious military-style cockpit complete with a fully integrated heads up display and 360-degree view screen. The cockpit is reinforced to ensure the survival of the driver.
Crew: 1 Passengers & Cargo: 3 and 450 lbs.
Engine: Fuel Cell Range: 450 miles (20 gallons)
Maximum Speed: 195 mph on road; 55 mph off-road
Size: 17 feet long Weight: 4000 lbs.
MDC by location: Main Body: 70 Wheels (4): 45 ea. Cockpit: 35
Cost: 800,000 credits

Windcatcher
Windcatcher is one of the few companies in North America that produce aircraft for commercial and private use. Of course, most of their customers tend to be mid-to-large sized city-states, mercenary companies, and moderately important Coalition States executives. Windcatcher also secretly builds custom unarmed SDC aircraft that can be modified for an MDC ground attack role.

Model: Sirroco Business Jet
Make: Windcatcher
Description: The Sirroco is a very small, twin-engined monoplane with low, swept wings. Its twin engines are mounted on rear pylons rather than on the wings, and the cabin comfortably fits eight passengers. A ninth passenger can fit in the co-pilot’s seat if the aircraft is flown with a single pilot. Thrust from the engines can be directed through nozzles located across the plane allowing for very short takeoff and landing from only moderately improved runways.
The Sirroco is often modified for use as an insertion/extraction aircraft for special operations teams.
Crew: 2 Passengers and Cargo: 8 & 400 lbs.
Engine: Gas turbine Range: 2,000 miles (450 gallons)
Maximum Speed: 525 mph
Size: 50 feet long Weight: 10,000 lbs.
SDC by location: Main Body: 110 Wings (2): 50 Landing Gear: 45
Cost: 700,000 credits

Model: Calima Business Helicopter
Make: Windcatcher
Description: The Calima fills a similar role to the Sirroco. Because it is more versatile it is also more common than Sirroco. The Calima is very effective and has often been repurposed to provide support to military organization like local militias and mercenary companies.
Crew: 1 Passengers and Cargo: 3 & 350 lbs.
Engine: Gasoline Range: 350 miles
Maximum Speed: 250 mph
Size: 35 feet long Weight: 6000 lbs.
SDC by location: Main Body: 130 Rotors (4): 20 ea.
Cost: 500,000 credits

Model: Longwind Commercial Aircraft
Make: Windcatcher
Description: The Longwind is a commercial, twin-engine aircraft capable of using unprepared runways. It is
Crew: 3; Pilot, Co-Pilot, Loadmaster Passengers & Cargo: 36 and 20,000 lbs.

Imperial Company
The Imperial Company produces ultra-luxury vehicles for use throughout the Coalition States and it holds a contract with the CS for state vehicles for mid-level officials and bureaucrats. In addition to its government contracts, Imperial produces luxury vehicles for the open market, some of which are also purchased by the various Coalition States governments.
Model: Statesman Towncar
Make: Imperial
Description: The Statesman is the most common of the Imperial models with many city governments and companies purchasing these vehicles for their officials and executives. The vehicle has environmental controls and comfort enhancements that exceed the levels of other, more common, commercial automotive models and there is a computer-aided driving system that provides up to a +10% bonus to a driver’s Pilot: Automobile skill.
The advanced, reactive suspension does not enable the vehicle to travel quickly in an off-road environment, but it does prevent the luxury experience from being diminished by uneven terrain.
Crew: 1 Passengers and Cargo: 4 & 400 lbs.
Engine: Gasoline Range: 450 miles (15 gallons)
Maximum Speed: 110 mph on road; 25 mph off-road
Size: 16 feet long Weight: 3100 lbs.
SDC by location: Main Body: 165 Wheels (4): 30 ea.
Cost: 75,000 credits

Model: Sovereign Luxury Sedan
Make: Imperial
Description: The Sovereign is the premier luxury sedan across North America. The Sovereign includes a separate “cockpit” for the driver, though a driver is not necessary for normal city navigation due to the robust navigation system included with the vehicle (not a true AI, but the computer can navigate through most urban areas with a pilot: automobile skill of 80% and can enhance the pilot: automobile skill of a driver by up to 15%).
The passenger area features lie-flat recliners and a central table. An entertainment system is included, as is a food and beverage system.
Crew: 1 Passengers and Cargo: 4 & 800 lbs.
Engine: Gasoline Range: 400 miles (20 gallons)
Maximum Speed: 135 mph on road; 25 mph off-road
Size: 18 feet long Weight: 3700 lbs.
SDC by location: Main Body: 190 Wheels (4): 30 ea.
Cost: 135,000 credits

Model: Eminence Luxury Sedan and Limousine (hover vehicle)
Make: Imperial
Description: The Eminence is a vectored-thrust luxury vehicle with a price that shows that it is true luxury. From the hand stitched leather seats and fully integrated audio system, to the micro-bar with wine chiller, the Eminence is intended to be the height of luxury (and conspicuous consumption) among rich city-dwellers on post-Rifts Earth.
The “cockpit” seats a single driver, but a primary robotic interface enables the vehicle to be operated without a driver. Behind the driver up to four passengers sit facing each other surrounding an interior tabletop/entertainment center. The seats and table can be retracted into the vehicle leaving an open area in the vehicle.
The Eminence is often selected to undergo a factory MDC upgrade. In order to accomplish this, the Imperial Company normally contracts out with military operators to integrate survivability features in the vehicles intended for diplomatic and VIP-protection duties.
Crew: 1 Passengers and Cargo: 4 & 400 lbs.
Engine: Gasoline Range: 450 miles (15 gallons)
Maximum Speed: 195 mph on road; 80 mph off-road
Size: 16 feet long Weight: 3100 lbs.
SDC by location: Main Body: 235 Lower Thrusters (4): 45 ea. Rear Thrusters (2): 80 ea.
Cost: 295,000 credits

Model: Exarch
Make: Imperial
Description: The Exarch is a luxury sport utility vehicle with all of the requirements that make it a robust off-road vehicle as well. Advanced stabilization technology and a supplemental computer assisted driving program enable the driver to transition between on road and off road easily (+15% to Pilot: Automobile)
Crew: 1 Passengers & Cargo: 6 and 1500 lbs.
Engine: Gasoline Range: 300 miles (20 gallons)
Maximum Speed: 135 mph on road; 45 mph off-road
Size: 17 feet long Weight: 5500 lbs.
SDC by location: Main Body: 300 Wheels (4): 75 ea.
Cost: 200,000 credits

I seriously like...though I imagine the CS has the prerogative to seize these companies' facilities and resources if they ever got desperate enough for the materials and labor. :bandit:

one thing to consider: i'm pretty sure e-clips are horrendously expensive to recharge, and using them as a default battery is probably not a selling feature at all. consider, for example, you can buy a brand new (presumably charged) wilk's laser wand energy clip for a mere 200 credits, and that said battery has enough power to output 50 MD (albeit rather slowly). now, having that available as an emergency power supply for when you're stuck and you need to use it, that could be a selling feature, but costing 2,000+ credits for 1-4 hours of low-intensity operation is not a good primary fuel source ;)

(by which i mean, you should probably include some kind of more reasonable battery as the default source of power for the altrian sportswear stuff)

Thank you...

I guess I was no5 clear in those write ups...the battery is internal and may be charged off of an eclip
