Which fortified cities have been detailed besides Chi-Town?

Unread post by Shorty Lickens »

I was just browsing Rifts Ultimate Edition and I noticed early on that Kevin S. states all over rifts earth theres a bunch of nations living in giant fortified cities, but I realized I cant recall any fortified cities being described, besides Chi-Town, and thats described in bits and pieces over a few books.

Did I miss one? Or did I simply forgot about an obvious one?

I don't remember any offhand, but I could also see an argument that chitown and similar aren't exactly fortified cities but are actually fortress cities.

at first glance I just restated what you said but not really.

I would argue a fortified city is going to be more similar to the medieval cities that have a wall around them, and many of the buildings (especially the ones that are exposed to the "outside" are also built and reinforced.

whereas the "fortress cities" like chitown are built as a fortress first and a city second

Chi-Town
Dwemer
Psyscape
Fort ElDorado
Lazlo
City of Brass
Most capitals & important cities are huge fortified cities
If you look at the art in RUE you can see pics of many of the big cities

Going to guardiandashi idea of fortified cities good examples are in WB 10 Juicer Uprising. Kingsdale, Los Alamo and Newtown are the best described cities in North America.

Arzno, Merctown and Cuidad Juarez are all described in detail. I don't know if they count as fortified or not but, at least in the case of Merctown, you would have to have a lot of nerve to attack a city full of Mercs.

Edit: Autocorrect orginally changed Arzno to Arnold. Corrected it.

Was chi town ever detailed bedsides just calling it a fortified city?

In general though most cities in rifts have fortifications so could be called fortified.
The Clones are coming you shall all be replaced, but who is to say you have not been replaced already.

I may debate canon and RAW, but the games I run are highly house ruled. So I am not debating for how I play but about how the system works as written.

I know there was some description in a book I read it was something like there are "layers" of city that are typically 10, or 20 floors worth of structure with elevators and stairs/ramps? and blast and security stations between the layers

there are industrial /manufacturing layers, industrial / maintenance/ support layers, residential layers etc

that's about all we have. very general information about social stratification through physical stratification, not even a proper description of what exactly a "fortress city" looks like inside.

Quebec City....A different country at this point, and I believe a "Fortress City" of its own?

Quebec as I remember doesn't have a ton of detail, but I do think it talks about it being a Fortress City. Lemuria talks about many of the features of their underwater cities as well.
