Zombie RPG??

You are on your own. The Army is MIA and our government is gone! There are no communications of any kind. Cities and towns have gone dark, and zombies fill the streets. The dead have risen and it would seem to be the end of the world. Help me, Mommy!

It's apparently a post apocolyptic/horror/revenge game. Kevin talked a bit about it at the radio show last night

The title of the Rifter version is DEAD REIGN. But my writing partner, Sanford, and myself are not 100% sure if Kevin is going to stay with it.

That ball is still in the bingo tank.

Can't give to much away at this moment, but I will say that it is a newer take on the zombie apocalypse genre.

There will be a shortened, but perfectly playable version, in Rifter 40.

Yeah, what's up with that, eh? After the Bomb, Rifts, Systems Failure, Chaos Earth, and now Dead Reign . . . all post-apocalyptic settings.

I think it's because it's fun tearing down the world we know and twisting it into a nightmarish and alien environment that mixes the familiar with the bizzarre. Or maybe we're all nihlists. Gosh, I hope not.

I like post apoc settings because they give you lot's of room to move around creatively.

Besides, who wants to play "Life As We Know It, The Role Playing Game" anyways?

Not I. :P

Sweet....

First PB get Robotech back and now they are doing a zombie game... its like I'v died and gone to post-apoclyptic heaven! :D

Rifter #40 huh, gotta pick it up as soon as my FLGS gets it in.

And plays into my real life as well, since I have been working 3rd shift for the up coming holiday season my wifes been running a BTS game but will be wrapping that up in a few weeks so that a friend can run a zombie stomp game using Systems Failure (minus the Bugs of course), but now with Rifter 40... she wont have to fake up the zombies. :)

it also makes it easier to write for. for a game set in 'our world', you have to consider the effects of everything. want to add giant robots to the american army? well what would the soviets do about it? the germans? ect. this even factors into minor things like a new town somewhere or a new company.

for a game not set in 'our world', like phase world, star wars, and so on, you have to make the reality whole cloth. a lot of writing involved in that. and you really don't have any anchors to grab people with. you have to put a lot of detail into thing because its not like they can go find an atlas and look up a spot.

but a post apocolyptic games has the best of both worlds. civilization collapses, but the world stays much the same. you can put what you want in, but you can get by with saying "denver is a burned out shell of a city infested with mutants" because people know where denver is, you don't have to tell them. you don't have to say "mos eisly is a spaceport city on tattoine, a desert planet in the outer rim of the star wars galaxy."

and since post apocolyptic games usually use existing places, you don't have to be too fancy to describe what players would see. you can skimp, and they'll go find pictures of the places and use their imagination to make them worn out, blasted, mutant infested shells.

Invid invasion is also very post-apocalyptic. I've always joked that if folks from that one were zapped to Rifts, it would be about a month and a half before they noticed much difference.

Oh? Was he one of the main artists on that one? I haven't picked it up yet.

Saw the concept cover for Rifter 40, looks awesome. can't wait to see it in color. Which reminds me I need to call and make sure my subscription is still valid.. I think it is but I can't remember if I've gotten 3 or 4 since I paid.

If Mumah did alot in Hades it'll definatly be an add for me to get it.

Yes Mumah and Jeffery Russell did a lot, but in all there were seven other artist, well eight if you count me for doing the maps. The artwork throughout was awesome and I still just crack it open to soak in the details of each piece.

working on it. Yeah, about that too, my computer had Novell Client on it because I purchased it through my Graduate School. Well, when I went to change the network so my roomie and I could play Starcraft together, it wouldn't let me backon to my computer. It was lame. I finally got back on the other day so i can keep working on it.

Well, when I went to change the network so my roomie and I could play Starcraft together, it wouldn't let me backon to my computer. It was lame. I finally got back on the other day so i can keep working on it.
