Historical evidence of Nightbane not being human

Unread post by Tor »

Or "why Dark Conversions is silly"

The online ad for example: https://palladium-store.com/1001/produc ... -Game.html

"the Nightbane who have elected to fight their own kind to save the human race."

"their own kind" clearly meaning supernatural creatures from the Nightlands

The Nightbane™ R.C.C. enables gamers to play supernatural shape-changers. Beings who can appear completely human, but are really superhuman creatures from the twilight dimension known as Nightlands™.

'nuff said. Not "we were humans from Earth all along and we're just getting cool powers to fight off the Nightlords". The Nightlords are from earth, they were once humans. The Nightbane are not, they were never human and are from the Nightlands. That's how it's always been.

This text is also on the back cover of the book, so you don't even have to open it to know this.

Sorry Tor... but your logic is a little flawed. The information you are using is to attract people to play the game... not unlike a movie trailer entices people to see a movie. It is hardly the irrefutable proof you need to prove that Nightbane are not and never were human... which the setting itself has a hard time proving one way or the other. Besides... it's not like your 'Bane can hold up a copy of the Corebok and say "Here's proof that we are not human!"

Stick to the information within the actual setting that characters would have access to... not proof that only people playing the game can actually know.

The setting doesn't have a hard time, it just doesn't bother since the cover tell us blankly that they aren't humans. The sense of mystery the inner pages paint reflects that the majority of beings lack our outside knowledge of the truth of the matter.

Sure, the Bane can't hold it up, and I wouldn't expect it to. Ours is 'word of god' type knowledge :)

Characters in the setting do not have access to all info, I'm talking about evidence in terms of our history, not theirs.

Outside knowledge does not equal truth.

Yes, the cover of the Corebook may paint the Nightbane as supernatural shapechangers from the Nightlands... but that doesn't mean that they are not and never were human. Humans have been living in the Nightlands for a very long time (possibly predating the arrival of the Nightlords). Therefore it is conceivable that the Nightbane could be descended from these humans and still be human (at least in part) while coming from the Nightlands. If I remember correctly, this is one of the theories presented in the Survival Guide.

I'm not saying that you inherently wrong... but rather that the proof you are using is faulty. You are basically using a game mechanic to prove something within the setting.

The proof I'm using isn't faulty, however I did not imagine such an explanation as you came up with... and you are right in that coming from the Nightlands doesn't mean you aren't human, nor does being superhuman.

Although that seems more along the lines of 'our ancestors were human' which Ogres could also say.
