If Palladium and the folks making this movie are trying to be so secretive, why'd they tell us about a movie anyway? They should have waited till they had more info.

But no....they had to tell us way in advance and drive us all crazy with anticipation. They've turned us into drug addicts.

Lol, they did that with Rifts book I. Admit it. Now that the drug is in your system, they are toying with us, like a drug lord who knows he can say or do nearly anything to us little crackhead addicts as long as he puts out something every once and a while.

**cries** I'm so ashamed

That would be cool, a bunch of people show up in costume, like they do to star wars lol...

Those Storm Trooper armor sets people wear are usually made from Kits. Google it and you'll find tons of different types of kits out there. It shouldn't be too difficult to retrofit something like that to yeild a suit of PVC Dead Boy Armor. Hell I might even give it a shot just for kicks :D

With this thread having started as long ago as it did and not really seeing anything about it I am starting to wonder if anything is really going to happen with the movie or if it is just one of those things that was mentioned to build up hype and then tossed onto a shelf somewhere in a long forgotten closet and sits gathering dust?

I'd have to agree with Cyberhunter, here. Why does PB and Kevin and Jerry Bruckheimer torment us so with this movie!!??

I really really really really really hope we get to see some more news on it at some point in the near future - 3 years is a looooooooong wait!

I wish they waited to tell us about it when things were on route to actual production.

I will have to agree with you. It would have been better for us fans in the long run. Though maybe, the people at Palladium did not think it would have taken this long and still no real progress, that we know of.

The newest updates on the web are from 2004, so no new info. Has Kev or Alex released anything?

If they did it would be in a press release, probably on the Palladium website.

Since the option is up very soon, likely there will be some sort of announcement in the next week or so. Probably.

Okay, so I was off by a bit in guessing when the announcement would be made...

These things happen.

i'm not worried about the movie comming out in the same way that i'm not worried about seeing Land of the Damned Book III coming out.

because we will probably in all likelyhood never see it happen like so many other PBs exciting project announcements. then like all the others, we will probably never hear from them when the project has been canceled either.

Im begining to agree with EPIC. By the time this movie does come out, I'll be too old to remember why I wanted to see it in the first place.

For someone to do that they would need to contact Palladium to get a licenses for the I.P. That would be cool.

The last that was said publicly was that the option had been extended.

I can't talk about what else I know, but I promise it's good news. :)

Well, since I posted that, the good news has dead-ended. What I knew was that Kevin had been approached to potentially write the script, but a deal could not be reached. Thus, it's back to the waiting game. :-?

Palladium is not producing it though, so they have no control over any of this.

I coulda swore that I read here that there was a first draft script in hand and details were being worked out... Is my memory going buggy or was this just a rumor?

It would be. Unfortunately Bruckheimer's stuck in a coventional mindset where marketing is concerned, so I highly doubt he'd go for it, tho it's worth a shot.

The last info I had on the subject (from an extreemly reliable source) was that the script was on draft 3 and working towards polish. That was Nov. of last year. With all the projects that Bruckheimer (and his people) work on, it's amazing anything ever gets done, and priority always goes to the "sure thing" (i.e. Pirates, CSI,etc...). Rifts is untested ground, tho they clearly see the financial potential (wouldn't have optioned it if he didn't), but because the potential is simply cognative and not concrete, he's dragging his heels on it.

TY for the info Darstone. I'll continue to wait and dream. I wonder which will happen first: Concrete info for a green lighted Rifts movie or Spore getting released? :D

who knows, maybe if another movie about giant robots kicking arse does well this summer, maybe Mr. B will get the notion that another one set in the distant future with added magic and dinosaurs and ninja's could do well as well.

fine i'll go see that dumb ass transformers movie... sigh.. only giant robots i don't like.
Makes me wonder, there wont be a whole lotta room for commercial endorsement on camera with a rifts movie (like a certain transformer morphing into a certain "fruity"mp3 player). Hope this doesn't hamper the deal, and I dont wanna see "The CS Army, Brought to you by Pepsi!" :P

Are you kidding me? Imagine coke signs, the Golden arches sticking out of the ground....hell, the remnants of a Mobile gas station could be fit in there. There really is a lot of room for some creative product placement....

Ya we've gone over this in my group. I think most people fail to grasp the scope of destruction here. There would be NOTHING left. Whatever wasn't washed into the ocean or otherwise destroyed would have been reused, recycled, broken down 100 times over... I have an example.
On the south west coast of florida there is a sub development that never went. Imagine a neighborhood for 400 single family homes. all the streets are paved, all signs in place everything. Then the construction company goes bankrupt and no one buys lots there (like 1 out of 30 sell). After 20 years of nothing but Florida weather and disuse: Half f the roads have disappeared under a thin layer of grass, honest to god trees are starting to grow in the middle of intersections, its nuts. It looks like a post apocalyptic scene, then you turn the corner and there is someone lifing in a nice house on a well kept yard.
My point, for those still reading, is that the cataclysm is so total, virtually nothing of the world we know today exists in the world of rifts.
Heh, this is Rifts, not a "Postman" RPG :)

I think what you may be failing to grasp is that the technology (some of it MD) was much higher during the cataclysm, thus certain buildings and things would be more survivable. Even without it (not like everyday objects would have been MD), take a look at the stuff that gets dug up all the time, especially from old battlefields and trash pits. In short, it is quite conceivable that artifacts would survive the cataclysm (hence their worth and existence being talked about in the main book's black market and in the Legacy Scout's description in Dinosaur Swamp). :)

All I can say is "Brisco America".

IMHO, if the cataclysm's destruction was total, humanity would have been wipped clean off the planet, not to mention Lazol and New Lazlo's re-printing of pre-Rifts books and remastering and distrebution of pre-Rifts films/DVDs, all archeological finds, etc... would be moot, as nothing would be left for such industries to exist. Hell, we still find artifacts with writing on them, and there's a good chance that things like soda cans would survive, signage, especially if buried, would survive, albeit faded and worn.

I think this may just be a point on which we wont agree, but I do agree that "The Postman" is definately NOT a good example of Rifts Earth. However, from a filmaker's stand point, the quickest way to draw in an audience unfamiliar with the world of Rifts is to give the audience a point of refrence and some semblance of familiarity within the environment, especially when dealing with an Earth bound locale in the not-really-too-distant future. Films that generally are exempt from this rule are A) Space and Alien Planet stories(Star Wars, Alien, etc) and B) Fantasy, Middle age type stories (Lord of the Rings, Dragonslayer, etc.). But these films always have to compensate for the unfamiliar environment for the audience to relate. I think "Reign of Fire" did a pretty good job at a Dark Ages type post apocalyptic environment, tho I would've liked to have seen a more epic film out of the premise.

In the end, tho, it's the audience that isn't familiar with Rifts that the filmmakers need to draw. Tho Rifts has a good sized demographic, it's not going to keep the box office at $30 million+ for a few weeks if the film is geared solely towards the fans (in the way that Serenity was, which cost $40 million to make and has a US Box Office gross of $25, 335, 935, world wide total was somewhere around $50 million, which, in the film industry, isn't breaking even (to break even on a film, the film must gross 3x it's budget). By all accounts, the film was pretty much a failure at the B.O.). Personally, I want to see the Rifts film hit the $100 million+ mark on it's first weekend.

Not total destruction, but all those materials strewn about would certainly have been reused/recycled in 200+ years. And somehow I find it difficult to see MD billboards :D Buildings yes, but very few other large things. Doesn't chaos earth say that MD concrete (for buildings) was relatively new before the cataclysm? I suppose MD metals for vehicles, armor, robots and such is a more developed technology.

Don't have Dinosaur Swamp yet, but living in Florida im dying to pick it up!

I realize he movie won't be canon, and I resign myself to the fact that there probobly will be commercial tie-ins (like everything else), but i dont hafta like it. :-(
