What charachter do you think should be the star and why?
I think a vagabond who became a Coalition grunt who got caught in the duality between who is the victom and who is not. The worst of humanity against the non-human. Human race must be saved but those D-bees don't seem so evil after all. Then as a underdog he rises up as a hero who fights evil against both sides and unites peoples in ways never done before even to the shame of the Cyber-knights. Now that would be perfect!

I guess it depends on the route they want to take with the movie.

Rifts has too many possible avenues to guess accurately; Pro-Human (CS friendly), Pro-Human (Anti-CS), Human vs Human (just trying to survive), and then you add in the different factions in North America alone (Federation of Magic, Tolkeen, Free Quebec, etc.) the task is daunting.

From a movie /selling tickets point of view... you know, putting @sses in the seats type of thing... one of the main char's MUST be a "Mega" Juicer !!

I agree the star should be a vagabond. But towards the end you find out the vagabond is actuallly a hatchling dragon - a true Rifts twist where anything can happen! :D

For an OCC as a main star of the movie, It would have to be a OCC that just screams "Rifts". You know the kind, You just look at that OCC picture and think, "Ya it's rifts alright." As it stands the only OCC's that screams "Rifts" would be, a Ley Line walker, Borg, Cyber-knight, and a CS grunt. I would also say juicer but I don't think the jucier would be a good main star. He'd make a better secendary character.

Yeah,

A juicer should be in the movie to be the big bad @ss, like Darth Maul was in TPM, but thats not a good canadate OCC to be the main character.

Depending on if its through the eyes of what super powered nation, I would say a LLW or even some kind of CS dude to be the main character. you have to keep it simple for the Non-Rifts fans who will go see the movie just cause it looks like a good action flick. Kinda like how Resident Evil was done. I have never played the game, but I liked the movies cause i could follow along with it and I did not have to know everything about it in order to enjoy the movie. Im sure the game goes into mountians more detail that Resident Evil fans are super critical about the movies, just like we will be when the Rifts movies come out.

I think the first rifts movie should be about....

Julian Amici

Thats right, the famed juicer assassin who puts James Bond to shame. It would be like a crazy futuristic action packed thriller where Julian can explain things about stuff as he has to try and defeat or avoid them in pursuit of his mark. Not to mention the special effects you could fit for that would be delicious.

Anybody see Cowboy Bebop? The Bloody-Eye effect but in full real time. Newer level of Matrix fun, everybody moving in slow motion cept the Juicer has full freedom.[/u]

Aw crap I didn't even think of that. THAT WOULD SUCK! I think it needs to be a CS Grunt or a Cyber-Knight. The only problem with the CS Grunt is that it would be hard to have a "Rag tag" group of a Burster, LLW, Juicer, etc. It could be an ex CS Grunt.

I am telling the rules lawyer right now that it WILL NOT FOLLOW THE RULES...Understand? IT WILL NOT FOLLOW THE RULES. It will be loosely based on the rules but not the letter. How do I know? Do I have Psi powers? Work for Palladium? Nope, I am just using comon sense.

In order for a Mass Audience to accept something It would bebetter to tell the story through a Rogue Scollar, Vagabond, or anything closest to a normal average Joe. You need for the audience to relate to something in such a crazy world. Maybee some backwoods kid almost a |Luke skywalker who has seen little goes out to explore and discover the world.

If you get too insaine with the main character then nobody will buy it.

my opionion would be the bounty hunter, headhunter type. it seems to be the most common type in comics and most action movie. i think the viewer can easily identify with hin or her.

Leave Narratives to Erin.

I'd go with a Vagabond that finds Glitterboy power armor and the ensuing trouble that he gets into because of it.

Your forgetting the Glitterboy. Cant get more Rifts than that, since one of the conept titles was "Boomers", for the sonic boom put off by the boom gun.

I like the idea of using a seemingly normal person as the main character. The audience can identify with an average person. Then imagine they have the amazing tech the character has to make them on par with robots and supernatural creatures. The companions of the character then have a norm to be compared to i.e a Juicer and his incredible strength / reflexes or a magic user with his arcane powers. The previous posts about making the char a dragon hatchling is a nice idea. Nothing is what it seems on Rifts Earth.

I think any OCC would make a good Main Character if it is done right, my personal votes are Glitter Boy, SAMAS Pilot, Juicer (Any), Ley Line Walker, Mystic, Mind Melter, Burster and Wilderness Scout.

I agre with what some have said here, the audience needs to be able to relate on some level with the main character(s). That being the case I don't see he/she/them being a spell caster such as a ley-line walker. Granted we have a slew of harry potter movies with three wizards as the main characters but american audiences are more willing to except kids as spell casters then adults for some reason.

Look at the recent constantine movie, John is a mage in the comic books but in that movie he was portrayed as nothaving any spell casting ability. He wielded a shotgun like hand cannon instead.

A "normal" joe finding a Glitterboy might work well. I also see possibilities for a CS grunt or even military specalist. A cyber-knight should also work since they are the Rifts version of Jedi, the public should have no trouble accepting them.

They could always "monsters and mazes" (gawd does that show my age or what) it up and drop a kid who plays rifts through a rift and make him the main character...

Dear god I hope they don't do that

not sure what OCC it should be but i always thought it would be cool if they had the main character be some regular guy/girl who gets rifted from modern times to rifts earth and has to deal with the world from there introduce OCC as they go along

I think the Glitter Boys are predominatnly what audiences would be able to identify with. Juicers? You got the problem with drug use for combat purposes.

Truth is, you'd have to find some way to intro the "party system" add a cyborg & pilots or such.

I think that a cool main character would be a pis-slinger. Human enough for people to relate to, but still a little different. Or possible a Cosmo Knight or any juicer, that why NPC's watching the movie would just think of them as "super heroes" A GB would be neat but most people don't like "robots", for those of you old enough (like me) reminds people too much of the old movies of guys in suits waling around cardboard buildings. Plus some people just plain don't like them. I know people who play Rifts and still hate Cyborgs and Robots. The other problem is you can't make the character too "normal", once you combine that with the old "post apocalyptic setting", it might come off as a Mad Max ripoff, with better effects. Once again, in my opinion if your movie is going to look like a Ripoff at least it would look like it's ripping off a good movie.

I think Erin Tarn, played by Dame Judi Dench and her awesome British accent, would be an excellent main character for the movie.

I agree that a Glitter Boy should also be involved in the main plot. A burser would be a cool character. And just think, what kind of cool effects they could come up with an Antlantean Tattoo Warrior?

I wonder if Peter Jackson is available after Kong....

The story should be around Larsen's Brigade: the story behind and why he is in prisoned and the loyal Dog pack free him from the prison and Emporor declares him a hero of the Coalition and he is not allowed back in CS Territory. You will get everything with the Brigade from Psi-characters to Glitter-boys and also little magic at that.

Main it takes old school to show you the thing about Rifts.

While Judi Dench would be an awesome Erin Tarn, I really hope that they only have her in a voice over capacity, if at all.

I know that they are going to have to have a character that is normal for the audience to relate to, but I wish they wouldn't. I know that people who aren't Rifts fans need to be able to relate to the movie and kind of eased in, but I think it would be cool if they did that kind of thing with voice overs and let the characters be as out there as they want.

I really would like to see a Line Walker as the main character, and I don't feel that you can do a Rifts movie without a juicer. I hope that they just throw the audience into it and let them figure it out as they go along.

A Wilderness Scout as the main character, as a wanderer he would be perfect. His travels would make it easy to show many aspects of the RIFTS world.

Obviously he would have some companions, or pick them up along the way. A Cyber Knight, A Ley-Line Walker, A Borg.

A Necromancer or Elementalist as a bad guy with a main henchmen Juicer.

Throw in a Xiticx encounter, and a couple Coalition encounters, maybe even have a specific Coalition task force hunting them down (A second group o fmain characters) , then as a twist at the end, have the CS Task Force, and our "Heroes" join forces against their common enemy.

I could come up with a million ideas that would work.

Wow. I'd see this movie. I really like the run down and it really gives a good flavor of Rifts Earth.

Main party:
- Dog boy and Coalition Psi-Stalker gone rogue
- Aging juicer (obviously dying - at the end of his life expectancy)
- Glitter Boy
- Mind Melter or Burster
- TW
- Baby dragon
- Crazy

Who's the main character? That I haven't figured out yet...

I would personally like to see Colonel Larsen be the main character, ideally played by Bruce Willis.

as a main story focus, id like to see some kind of high action person, preferrably like a battle mage. Or something like Nexus Knight... possibly a Cyberknight. A Juicer would be Ideal becasue of the gruff actiony nature. But id like to see some heavy magic combat.

I don't know about Larsen, Erin, Prosek and them, I mean the movies should be about nobodies who are sought after by both sides of the real problem coming. The oncoming invasion of the Xiticx that is going to be coming soon.

Possibly make the movie set in the the Chaos Earth setting.... The founding of the Silver Eagle and Chromium Guardsman. The battle of NEMA vs. The World Slayers.

Of course I would personally like a Gunslinger from the New West... who gets arrested by the CS and proceeds to give them hell. :D

There are just to many possibilities. I just look forward to it as long is it isn't another D&D movie failure.... :frust:

I'd tweek this jst a tad and use a CS Ranger instead of a Wilderness Scout. They're virtually the same but you could play that out with reports to the Coalition that build character development of this main character through his views of/dealings with the people he encounters and has to work with to accomplish his reconaissance mission vs. his sentiment toward the CS anti-DBee policy and his duty to make reports to higher about the area he or his team is scouting. That's just a small taste..Just like the game there truly are endless possibilities.

I'd really like to see the focus be on a more "regular joe" type of character though. Definitely something that someone could identify with. Nothing too outrageous for the lead but definitely LOTS of out of this world things happening to that character.

A Chaos Earth setting would end up a lot like War of the Worlds IMO. Lot's of random catastrophic damage with little storyline to go with it.(Only this time the invaders don't die at the end ;)

This really has great cinimatic possibilities and I really hope that it's done right and it appeals to more than just us hardcore fans of the actual game at the box office. No matter what I'm gonna be seein it :D

Ya, that would be cool. Or like some others have said, and the person finds a Glitter Boy. Now that would be cool too! But also a must, there has to be one big battle, with magic, and tech. going all over the place. In that senting, I would want the main charactor in a Glitter Boy with the Boom Gun BOOMING :D .

I like the former CS grunt/spec ops soldier idea. Picture it.

Bruce Willis is the CS grunt/spec ops guy, and in the beginning of the movie, he's looking all cool in his dead boy armor, and he's doing his thing, right? Except it turns out old Bruce is a latent psychic who's powers just activated. Naturally, the CS wants to take him in, re-educate him, and turn him loose on an unsuspecting public. However, he thinks better of it because he doesn't want to be some sort of mentalist slave to the CS. As a regular soldier he believes he's respected (actually feared) and he has the ability to lead a somewhat normal life. As a psychic, he knows things are going to take a turn for the wierd, and the CS is going to monitor and control his every move in ways he can't even imagine. So he escapes.

Malcolm McDowell, head of CS special projects, sends out a team after Bruce, two of whom would be Jet Li and Goldberg (Michael Ironside would also be good on this team). They go running after him, and the action ensues.

End the whole thing with Bruce melting Malcolm's brain, and you've got a kick-a$$ movie with potential for sequels.

I'd like to see a whole wing of SAMAS come screaming over a company of CS mechanized troops on the move across open country.

As much as I loathe the CS, the scene would be cool.

As for actors...I think that Patrick Stewart or perhaps Seah Connery would make an excellent Emperor Prosek. Both are cultured and urbane enough to make people think the best of them at all times, and would make the character of the Emperor absolutely terrifying when you see just how evil and manipulative he really is.

For a main hero, again, I hate to say it, but not a Cyber-Knight. I think people got their fill of the fine, upstanding pillars of all that is virtuious and ture with the Jedi. I'd like the hero(s?) to be just the 'regulars'. You know, the Infantryman, CS Grunts, and Winderness Scouts out there. People who get by by training, wit and just pure heart.

There needs to be spellcaters. Seeing a Ley Line Walker go to town would be amazing, and of course, the Glitter Boy standing it's gorund is a must-have.
