Ever since Palladium Books published Mutants in Orbit back in 1992, which on page 57 revealed that the eruption of the rifts (Great Cataclysm) occurred on December 22 in the year 2098 A.D., we Palladium Books gamers have known that on the Gregorian-Lunar Calendar for 2098 A.D., the following is true:

Sunday, December 21st is the Winter Solstice.

Monday, December 22nd is the start of the 12th Lunar Month.

Therefore, the Great Cataclysm triggered the "Perfect Storm", taking advantage of a moment in time when both the solar and lunar event modifiers amplified the released P.P.E. in ways that even Victor Lazlo had never considered!

I am very opinionated. Yes I rub people the wrong way but at the end of the day I just enjoy good hard discussion and will gladly walk away agreeing to not agree :D
