Jetpacks to go on sale to public in 2010

Unread post by Jeffrey W. »

Neat stuff reported by FOXNews.com today.

It would seem that Martin Aircraft Company in New Zealand is preparing "...to sell its jetpack: two rockets driven by a 2-liter, 200-horsepower engine that can theoretically take you as high as 8,000 feet.

The company is currently taking commercial orders, but Martin expects it will be selling the devices to individuals late this year.

With a range of 31 miles and a maximum speed of 63 miles per hour, you'll be able to jaunt to the store at will, or to the gas station for a fill-up. That's right, Martin's jetpack uses ordinary gasoline, not jet or rocket fuel.

The future is now, though it'll cost you around $100,000."

tech wise i can see it. you had the Williams X-jet wayback when, which failed to get backers but was a viable system.

It might do much better than the skycar, in that the FAA would not regulate a jet pack, unless new legislation is enacted.

The FAA will only allow the Moller Skycar to take off and land from airports and heliports. Add to that flight plans, clearance to take off and land, air traffic controllers, etc. No thank you.

It would be the jet pack, for me, if I could ever afford one.
