What ten Items would you want to have if you found yourself caught up in the Rifts.

Here is my list

2 - Book of Edible plants of north America
3 - Canteen
4 - A swiss Army Knife
5 - Large Back pack or duffle bag
6 - Laptop
7 - Energy Rifle
8 - Energy pistol
9 - lot of Ammunition
10 - Silver eagle or Dune Buggy

You have two each energy pistol's and rifle's?

Do you intend to hunt/forage for food and water? What will you carry your water in?

How will you stay warm and protected from the elements?

Just some thoughts.

Oh, finally somebody got it right.

Thank you, duck-foot. I suspect that Justin Fireblade was thinking along those lines as well.

canteen.
hunting rifle +300 rounds.
survival book.
energy rifle.
survival tool.
fire starter kit.
sleeping bag.
ruck sack.
good boots.
weather resistant clothing.

Those are all great. Though I think I'd drop the e rifle and maybe grab a Epistol. Most of the big stuff I am goign to run or hide from (no cowardice discretion is the better part of valor) as one dude with 1 rifle is not always a good fight and an Epistol at least gives some chance against the smaller stuff.
A good strong practical buck knife would also be a good addition. A solingen or sykes fairborn kabar etc... The things that can be done with a good knife in a survival situation are rather diverse.

But yeah too many times peopel look at the big shiny stuff before thinking about basica equipment loadouts. I see that in my players characters a lot.

I did not see your list. I assumed I would have my clothing that I was wearing at the time. So unless you run around nude all the time I do not see that being the bigest problem. I have in my car a survival/energency kit with water and MREs for 4 people for two days. But when the alien monster comes searching for the meal I still want the shinning cool toys.

But after this weekends 40 mile hike in the costal weather I realized something I would have gladly traded the Rifle or that fancy high tech stuff for. A Good pair of hiking boots.

I like swiss knifes do to the many functions. And both of mine have lasted the many years of abuse.

Oh I like my multitool (sort of a swiss army on steroids) and am not far from it most of the time. But for a survival, hiking, hunting situation I like to have on hand a nice non-folding, full tang, real no frills knife as well. Something with a sharp blade, flat pommel that can be used for smacking things, single edged so I can push on the blade for whittling or other needs that i might have and not aware of yet. One reason I carry my dads old solingen hunter from the sixties. I've used it to clean fish, gut deer, whittle wood, also in a true survival situation lash it to the end of a long stick and you have a spear.

i have never heard of a retired knife before. so does it collact social security now.

I replaced it with another and put it in the tools kit for my minatures hobby. Its blade as been worn down with many years of use. If it was ever really needed I would use it.
However its replacement sits in my survival kit I have and currently use when I go hiking/camping. 8)

I don't think I could survive with just ten items, if we were two literal with this.

Travelling to work I typically wear
1. Underwear.
2. Under shirt.
3. Pair of socks.
4. Pants
5. Belt
6. Shirt
7. Beret
8. Pair of boots.
9. Pair of boot bands.
10. Pair of glasses.
11. Wallet.
12. Notepad.
13. Cell phone.
14. Pen.
15. Watch.
16. Keys.
17. Lighter.
18. Daybag with a. spare underwear, b. Soap, c. towel, d. pair of socks, e. Pair of gym shoes, f. Jogging pants, g. jogging shirt, h. My lunch for the day.

This doesn't count what I'd have in my car.

In the winter, add:
18. i. hoodie
19. Winter coat or parka
20. Wool hat
21. Pair of gloves
22. Chapstick

In 'civies', I would likely be wearing:
1. Glasses
2. underwear
3. Shirt or sweater
4. Pants or shorts.
5. Pair of socks
6. Pair of shoes or boots
7. Jacket depending on the weather
8. Cellphone
9. Keys
10. Wallet

Now, if I were to expand on this for the Rifts, I would want to assume that I was dressed for work in the winter. Then I would want to add the following:

1. Full Marching order IAW SOP for winter operations. :-o (including battle order with weapon and ammo as well as rucksack, armor and load bearing vest).
2. Duffel Bag loaded up IAW SOP for follow up kit (winter operations).
3. Barracks Box loaded up IAW SOP for follow up kit (winter operations).
3. HMRT (Heavy Mobile Repair Truck) kitted out IAW SOP for combat winter operations (up armored).
4. Trailor for the HMRT.
5. 30.06 Rifle with ammo.
6. Magic for dummies book with all spells in it (written in english).
7. A freshly repaired Silver Eagle with full payload in the back of the HMRT.
8. A second freshly repaired Silver Eagle with full payload in the back of the HMRT.
9. A medium or heavy weapon for the HMRT along with ammo.
10. A HMRT partner, fully kitted out.

These would be my choice:

1. NG-S2 Basic Survival Pack
2. NG-EX10 Gladius Light Exoskeleton Battle Armor
3. Cauldron of Endless Water
4. Cauldron of Plenty
5. MP-10 Caseless Pistol(SDC) with ammo
6. NG-45LP "Long Pistol" with ammo
7. WI Assault Hover Bike
8. Behemoth Explorer
9. Full set of clothes
10. Triax DV-12 Dynabot
"I love my dad because he is awesome."-My son.
Caution these rules are unclear and may be open to gross interpretation and out right misinterpretation. GM discression is strongly advised.

Windwalker the only thing i would change is the field jacket fitting over any real armor beyond a vest.

Otherwise I would like the shot gun for my self. NIce work, I think I will put these items into my next Chaos Earth/Rifts campaign.

I like the idea of doing a double barrel side by side sawed off with a pistol style grip like Max in Mad Max. I did like the magical glyphs. If they were a cool design I would purchase it over the standard.

Id take:

A boomstick,
Chainsaw hand,
a D20,
my PS3,
a raft (in case I need to jump out of a crashing air plane),
a circa 1950's lead lined fridge (for nuclear blasts),
10 coupons to Wendy's for number 6 combos,
10 wooden stakes and a mallet (for lawyers),
lots of beer,
lots of women.

Yup, that would pretty much set me up.

Kagashi your last item makes the rest worthless. It is rare to find a single woman that will let you enjoy those items. But once you have a cluster you are not likely going to get the opportunity to even play with your broomstick.

I'd take my copy of Rifts : Lone Star .. and about 2 million in stolen Gems an Jewels to pay a merc team to be my protectors while I also hired an excavating team to get to the door. Then have them all shot an killed by the Merc Team. Then enter the military instilation .. and kill each merc as they then entered single file like threw the door with my noiseless laser pistol, claiming it was something from inside of the complex that was killin us off slowly ..

After the last merc is killed off ..

I would then look for the old Pre-Rifts tech .. such as samas learn to pilot it an then go out an sell a couple dozen of them to finance my own little army at the begining.

Then I would recruite poeple I could trust and are good leaders (hard I know) to jump start the whole army I was creating.

Then slowly build said military until the CS came knocking on my door to be a Ally with them. And let the history role out ..

heh.

Yeah, like highly trained professional soldiers (that is after what mercenaries are) would be so stupid as to enter single fire with you behind them.

All those canteens better have some kind of water filtration/purification system, unless you LIKE dysentery...
IF you got enough sunlight, putting your water in clear plastic bottles on a silvered reflective surface(like maybe a good space blanket?) and letting solar UV cook the stuff, can work.

IF you got enough sunlight, putting your water in clear plastic bottles on a silvered reflective surface(like maybe a good space blanket?) and letting solar UV cook the stuff, can work.

I am sure NEMA would dig up and use a few of these.

They'd likely have improved models with more efficient nanotech-material osmosis mesh, and powered by more efficient power systems, all ready for quick transport to crisis areas(which, on Rifts/Chaos Earth, is EVERYWHERE).

People keep saying solar chargers. How long does the winter last, and how soon would those be useful? I've seen 80 years tossed around, but I wanted to be sure.

I'm glad to see some of you referencing the globalsecurity website now. I wish more people would.

However, I doubt NEMA would be using the Reverse Osmosis Water Purification Unit in the cold and volcanic ash cloudy world of Chaos Earth. I still remember my FMF days with the Marines. They looked something like this:

The amount of nuclear reactors present in the book materials would lead me to believe that NEMA might distill some of the snow during the years of winter for a freshwater supply instead.

You think the a reverse osmoses unit would not be able to purify water contaminated with volcanic ash?

I was thinking the more modern version would be used: http://www.aqua-chem.com/uploads/images/TWPS_w.jpg

Good call on NEMA using nuclear reactors.
