Well... the "Mission: Impossible" was going without hitches.
Then >_>
<_<
HE showed up... :P
So it became Impossible Mission.
Captain McScarywhitehaircan'tbehitwithnuthinandmoveslikeSpeedyGonzales decided to do a Blofeld on us. Only thing he was missing was the white cat and monocle.
Time for Plan C
seeing as how Plan B won't work on 'im either (C-4 doesn't work on unkillable named villans; especialy tactical geniuses).

All I've got to add is: nobody's unkillable. [Except for those pesky true immortals. :P] It's just a question of how hard you have to work to pull it off. ;)

Mission: Infiltration

July 13th [Very early morning]: Arriving at Fort El Dorado at around midnight, the group quickly took stock of their surroundings: the center of the base was a large vehicle hangar, a makeshift airstrip had been made and fenced in along it's side, with the barracks and other personnel-oriented facilities on the far side where they could not see. Tahlor, properly disguised, drove the hover jeep to the security booth and managed to bluff his way past, claiming to be “NTST Agent Allen” sent to sniff out a suspected attack on the base by hostile forces. Eris and her team, meanwhile, kept watch outside the base under cover of darkness and foliage.

Once inside, Tahlor parked the jeep near to their target, the heavily tarp-covered shape of the massive supersonic transport. Addressing the deck officer, he requested to see the flight-captain in charge of the jet, while 'Precia and Maria' were escorted to the flight control tower to check sensor readings and reports. With Persia and Mouse successfully put inside the air control tower, the pair got to work, Mouse getting information pertaining to schedules and any unusual activity of late while Persia planted a virus in the system to distract the CS and baffle their sensors into thinking an outside source was hacking their system.

Once the 'hacking' attempt began, Persia and Mouse were escorted back to Tahlor, who was talking with Flight-Captain Reynolds, and Eris sent Jase on a distraction-run, using his speed charm to their advantage. Tahlor used the distraction to convince Captain Reynolds there must be a 'mole' on-board the transport. Reynolds agreed and led the infiltration team into the ship with two of his soldiers as backup to investigate. Once inside, Tahlor suggested Reynolds take Mouse and Persia up to the bridge to look around and run a systems check on the jet while he and the two Dead Boys remained in the cargo hold to keep watch. Agreeing, Reynolds hurried off with the pair towards the bridge two levels above. Meanwhile, outside, Eris had begun taking out radio aerials and any satellite dishes she saw to further impair communications.

As Reynolds led Mouse and Persia to the bridge, Mouse kept an eye on him and noted he used a key card to open the doors to the bridge. Relaying this to Tahlor, he told her to secure the key-card and 'remove the witness', prompting her to introduce her hitherto concealed rune dagger to the gap between Reynold's armor and helmet. Persia, being something of a pacifist, was shocked by the quick efficiency of the kill, but Mouse had stooped to get the key-card and hadn't yet noticed. In the cargo-hold below, Tahlor used his innate Silhouette abilities to darken the area and began dealing with the two Dead Boys, while outside Anna and Eris began assisting Jase in dealing with one of the patrols of 8 Dead Boys.

Moving towards the console to activate the jet, Mouse was surprised by a white haired young man seated in the pilot's seat, who proved to be a definite cut above the CS personnel seen thus far. He knew that Mouse and Persia were D.A.R.T. members, and when Persia began to rouse from her shocked state and spoke, he concluded she was a D-bee from the purr in her voice. Escorting them downstairs to the cargo-hold, he asked Tahlor to bring their leader and other members to him so he could test the team's mettle, Tahlor deciding to be his opponent for the time being while Eris coordinated the team outside. Jase ran to Tahlor's jeep to hit the auto-pilot to send it home [with some minor confusion as to why the jeep was trying to leave ] while Eris picked up Anna and sprinted for the ship with her increased speed function on her suit.

With the rest of the team on the way and Persia and Mouse to the side, Tahlor faced the mystery man in melee combat with his sword, his opponent also wielding a blade. The fighting was quick and furious, but the white haired fellow proved quite a warrior, parrying every attack sent his way, until Persia attacked from behind. The feline doctor had despised the Coalition armor from the start, and had eschewed hers in favor of freedom of movement, and tried to inject a large overdose of pain medication to overload his system. While her timing was perfect and her aim faultless, to her surprise the needle would not penetrate the man's skin, and with a spinning kick she was sent sprawling. Angered by the blow to the object of his affections, Tahlor struck hard for the man's exposed face, but again the blade stopped upon impact, not leaving so much as a scratch. Making their entry into the cargo-hold, Eris' team beheld what was happening, and Eris promptly sprang to the offensive with a Mental Blast spell, giving their foe a whopper headache by way of greeting.

Who is this mysterious white-haired individual in Coalition armor? Is he invulnerable, or is there some manner of trick behind his apparent immunity to harm? Will the team succeed in stealing the transport before the patrolling Dead boys group up and storm them, or alert the rest of the base to what's going on? Will I ever stop coming up with questions regarding the fate of our team? Find out in our next installment! ;) [And no, I probably won't. :P]

Ouch...Reynolds gets the point and beware white-haired guys in black (unless they're geriatric cases, in which you STILL give 'em a wide berth).

An entire 8 man patrol that never fired a shot. ;) Jase did good keeping them off-balance and scared, but trust me, shooting back was an option they could've taken. :D The dice were as much your armor there as anything Jase was wearing.

Aerial Pursuit

- July 13th [cont'd]: With the snowy-haired stranger aboard and proving problematic, and knowing the only way to still succeed in their mission was to get the jet off the ground, Eris and Tahlor engaged in a fast and furious sword-fight with their uninvited guest to keep his attention while the team got to work. Hurrying up to the bridge, Mouse used the keycard she had 'acquired' from the late Captain Reynolds to unlock the door once more, and Persia quickly booted up the jet's computers to upload the assistant A.I. she had programmed to help her fly the massive transport. Anna quickly identified the weapons control seat and hopped on, testing out the ship's rear laser turret by using the massing patrols outside as target practice. Persia quickly turned the jet about and initiated take-off procedures, and the jet was soon in the air, though the A.I.'s programmed safety functions kept the transport at minimum flight speed and a slow rate of acceleration so it's calculations could be made without error.

Responding to the jet's unscheduled departure, a wing of 6 SAMAS pilots took off in pursuit of the transport while still able to keep pace, and a dogfight of sorts soon ensued, with Anna and Jase on the rear pulse laser turrets attempting to take out some of their pursuers while Persia had the massive transport dancing to evade mini-missiles and railgun fire to the best of her ability. Mouse, meanwhile, did her best to jam any nearby radio signals to prevent the SAMAS from calling in further air support.

Realizing that, despite her best efforts, the SAMAS wing was simply too much for the two pulse turrets at their disposal, Persia overrode the A.I.'s safety function and increases the ship's acceleration, quickly climbing to Mach One and leaving the SAMAS behind. Mouse then launched several of the ship's medium-ranged smart-missiles without a target, the ordnance's systems auto-locking to the SAMAS pilots after a few moments of free-fall. Assuring the others she had the jet well under control, Persia urged them to go help Eris and Tahlor.

Down below, Eris had a guess that the mystery attacker had something she called an “AT Field” shielding him, and attacked with a supernaturally strong punch as opposed to her sword, and was quite satisfied to hear some bones groaning and see a bruise forming on his face where she had struck. In response to her progress, the man began moving at inhuman speeds, shattering Eris' magical protection and reducing Tahlor's armor to useless fragments, scoring a hit on the Silhouette himself.

Seeing that things were looking serious, the team began thinking of ways to vent the man outside and be rid of him, and [after some lengthy confusion as to whether or not the jet had cargo bay doors on the rear end, somehow operating despite the thrusters occupying that space :nh: ] Persia had the idea to lock the external hatches of the emergency airlocks open, and, via P.A. system, told the group all they had to do was open the inner hatch manually. Springing into action, Eris gave the man another Mental Blast to daze him, and threw open the nearest airlock, using her suit's foot-clamps to anchor herself. With their foe staggering towards the airlock, the team sought to further unbalance him, and Anna dashed out to position herself behind him, firing some shots into his back to give him a bit of a push. Despite her success, she had forgotten the tremendous gust of air dragging their enemy outside would also affect her, and she was soon sliding across the floor as well. Eris threw the manual control lever back the other way, but the door shut too slowly, and it was only by Mouse diving to tackle her to the side while the door shut that Anna avoided a free-fall of her own.

With their enemy expelled at last [though Persia reported the sensors showed him moving horizontally along the ground after impact, suggesting he may very well have lived ], the group allowed themselves to relax, Mouse finding a scrap of cloth with the name 'Hector Creed' stitched into it and the group concluding that it was likely the man's name, or at least a lead to identifying him. Turning back towards Lazlo, the group set the jet down in the ruins of the Pearson International Airport, roughly 10 miles to the west of the current city limits, and let Alice [who they had arranged to meet them there ;)] drive them home for some much-desired rest, discussing some more local matters as they went. These included a surprise question from Mouse directed at Jase+Eris and Perisa+Tahlor, and was a very blunt “So...when are you getting married?”, as well as an update on the political scene from Alice. The last of Dominus Maeryth's followers had at last been uncovered and removed from the Congress of the Electorate, but it had left many positions open, so many that it was impossible to fill them all on short notice. High Councilor Thomm had been forced to fill the positions with as many people as he could find, going so far as to even ask for volunteers from Lazlo's citizens, just to keep the city running until a proper election could be organized.
Not in any state to discuss politics, the group smiled and nodded, and promptly climbed into bed to pass out upon returning to the Casa, Eris making some quick plans with Anna to gather her sisters the following day for some training to start them on their path towards the Adepta Sororitas she was hoping to found.

So, the Coalition has a soldier with the speed of a Hyperion Juicer that can't be harmed by most conventional means. Well, at least Eris worked out a few ways to cause him some aches. And we certainly have to hope Thomm knows what he's doing, Lazlo's in quite the shaky state with so many non-political volunteers manning the open positions, but then, there has to be somebody to sign the papers, right?

That's the thing about cockroaches; you burn them, you stomp them, you throw them out the airlock...and they keep moving!
Next time try using some motion-sensor-slaved anti-Juicer heavy weaponry on him. :-D

Well, Juicer Uprising had two power armors based on anti-Juicer tech...one of them had a 'crown' of independentally-tracking mini-blasters that would lock on to fast-moving objects like Juicers, so it should be possible. Like maybe a big metal bowler-hat with a mini-turreted light (energy; you don't want recoil snapping your neck) gun sticking out of the top.
But Invincibility? You're going to need Bigger Gun for that, and 30-40mm ack-ack cannons aren't exactly manportable...Maybe personal reactive armor with claymores? But then you'll be needing exoskeletal bracing and Glitterboy-like pylons so your own insta-react personal point defense doesn't send you flying every time a squirrel skitters by...

First of two updates I'm late on delivering.

Even High-Society Parties Have Crashers

July 15th [Yes, we jumped a day. ;) Eris got Anna started on her Sororitas training]: The day began eventfully for Eris, with a terrible nightmare regarding the Ruinous Powers of Chaos coming to Rifts Earth to work their designs upon it [nightmare included below for those of you who fancy a look-see. ;)] Catapulting out of bed, the good Commander took a few moments to gather herself before going in search of the Casa's black gold [coffee, not oil ] The remainder of the crew joined her at breakfast [Mouse was there already in fact, an early riser] while Jase remained in bed semi-comatose, his psionic abilities having knee-jerked a little too hard in response to the dream he and Eris shared. Mouse revealed she had in fact gotten married recently, to Raphael Diaz of Raphael's Emporium, and was congratulated by those present and wished many long years of happiness.

Once the group had some time to wake up [or calm down with some Empathic help from Persia in Eris' case :D], Tahlor mentioned he had done his best to track down the mole that leaked the information that they would be attempting to steal the transport to their new, white-haired, friend. Unfortunately, what he learned was that several of the scouts sent out to ascertain the location of the transport prior to the heist hadn't made it back, and the one suspicious one, in his eyes, had been professionally 'removed'. He concluded that it was likely the Coalition tying up loose ends and trying to get the body cremated or buried before a proper autopsy could be done, via the typical method of crossing some palms with silver. However, using the name Mouse uncovered on the scrap of cloth, he had confirmed the man to be Hector Creed, and had a copy of the man's official biography if anyone wished to peruse it.

Alice then pointed out an article in the paper stating that Xarl and Plato were going to be holding a social event for the higher ups of the Lazlo Security Forces, as well as other events across the city. The stated goal: to keep morale up in the city in light of all the troubles of late and the political upheaval. Eris, approving wholeheartedly of the idea [until she read the part that read 'dresses must be worn' :demon:] promptly began organizing the group, and with some help from Alice [who, it turns out, was actually a model when not doing Eris' paperwork ;)] the group got themselves fully dressed up in that very same day, just in time for the party that evening.
Arriving at the party, things went well, with many familiar faces present: General Xarl and Plato of course, the group's often-acquaintance and Lazlo's Black Market kingpin Borris Reeve [accompanied by his 'girls' as always, though Alice was his date for the evening], and a face only Mouse seemed to recognize, a towering, barrel-chested Grackle Tooth of jovial demeanor going by the name of 'Squeedgie'. [Yeah, you read that right. ;)] Getting down to it, the group split off to enjoy themselves, Persia and Tahlor having deep-felt conversation as they slow-danced through the crowd while Eris shanghaied a flustered Alice [much to the crowd's approval :D] and Mouse paired up with Reeve.

As the night proceeded, after Plato made a toast to Lazlo's continued thriving but just before Persia and Tahlor could slip off to be alone, the event was rudely interrupted: Devilkin, disguised as party-goers, had begun filling the room with clouds of smoke while Deevils hustled Xarl from the room! Plato and Reeve wasted no time in dispersing the smoke-screen, but were powerless as long as Xarl was held hostage. For some odd reason, the Dyvalian hostage-takers' terms did not include the D.A.R.T. members present, and Eris wasted no time in organizing her crew, very nearly taking a Devilkin's head off with an uppercut [after shucking her dress in favor of her underwear to allow herself flexibility.] while the others made short work of the other Devilkin, giving chase to the Deevils who had muscled Xarl out of the room.

Arriving just in time to find a blond female Dyvalian [Devilkin...but without tail or horns? Hmm.] opening a portal and the Deevils forcing Xarl through. Reacting quickly, the group managed to halt the Deevil's passage, by way of a Carpet of Adhesion and Magic Net, with bare inches to spare. Moving to free Xarl from the net, the group were interrupted by a Beast passing through the portal, plucking the helpless Wolfen general from the ground, and striding back through the open portal with only a brief exchange between himself and the D.A.R.T.
“Not that this hasn't been fun, but I must go. My master demands a hasty delivery of his prize. If you want him back, you'll have to play by my master's rules. So consider this a formal challenge from the Supreme Lord Dyval, Sahtalus." And with one last contemptuous glance at the lesser infernals trapped beneath the net, he added a final comment. "Do me a favor and make them suffer for failing to execute a simple plan."
General Xarl has been kidnapped by Dyvalians, Plato has given the group 10 hours to rest and gather their personal things before reporting in at Security HQ for the official launch of the rescue mission, with Reeve promising to assist them in acquiring whatever the group thinks they might need for their mission, while Mouse 'interrogates' the captured Dyvalians for information on Dyval itself. This one's going to be a doozy. :D

Spoiler:
A Nightmare of Chaos
Eris and Jase find themselves walking down a long hallway hung with countless beautiful paintings, the sound of quiet jazz permeating the air as they walk hand-in-hand. Masterfully carved sculptures pose between the paintings, and even the glass roof above shows a starlit sky akin to jewels set amongst sable velvet. A second band begins to play, but it is a different type of music altogether, and they frown as the contesting noises begin to compete for dominance, soon joined by another band, and then an orchestra, the noise quickly reaching an unbearable level. They begin to run as a thousand instruments play in competition with one another, each conducted to a different piece in a discordant cacophony, making their ears weep and their heads ache. A foul reek taints the air and they see blood and excrement dripping from the canvas of the paintings, and the sculptures become leering, obscene creations towering over them with the very stars forming lewd constellations in a ghastly pink.

Reaching the doors, breathless and gagging, the pair stagger outside and slam the doors, collapsing on the ground to find their breath, and see a putrescent green begin oozing over the moon, the moonlit terrace becoming awash with sickly light. Ropes of milky, viscous pus drip from the moon like an open wound, the virulent slime striking the ground near them and disgorging rotted shapes with their skin broken and innards spilling out, walking carrion riven with maggots and haloed by clouds of flies.

Forced to their feet, the pair run on further, reaching a cliff. In the distance below them, they see a black winged man striding through the wreckage of a burning city, but the image freezes and unravels as though it were a thread, leaving only the briefest image of a figure dressed in wolf pelts and feathers with hawk-like wings rising from their shoulders. The pair suddenly fall as the cliff becomes transparent, and they see an armored figure bearing the same mark Jase's sword had reach out to catch the thread that unwound from the burning village in an armored fist, spinning it in his hands and weaving it cat's cradle around the world.

Tumbling further through the void, the pair land in an ocean of blood, and upon reaching land realize with horror they have climbed onto the base of a mountain of skulls. The sky begins to rain blood in a torrential downpour, and they are forced to climb the mountain in search of shelter. Reaching the top, they see a brass throne at the summit, and as they seek shelter from the rain against it, they see the Coalition Death's Head emblem lodged among the most recent skulls beneath the throne, trails of blood stemming from it's empty eye sockets.

Thrown from the summit, the pair fall, down and down, through the skulls at the base of the mountain as four voices laugh, landing at last back in their own bed and waking with a jolt, soaked in a cold sweat and shaking uncontrollably, a feeling of palpable menace still lingering in the air.

Aaaand part two. :D It's a little short, I know, but it was predominantly a prep-session, and introducing them to the dangers of the territory they're invading.

On the Hover Platform to Hell

July 16th: Getting what sleep they could, the group wakes and gathers their personal equipment and weapons, meeting over coffee to hear the information Mouse managed to get out of the captured infernals.
- There are 7 levels of Dyval: Dyval Prime, Dyzonia, The Great Desert, Tundra, Inferno, The Mines, and Grim Mortis.
- The Supreme Lord Dyval, Sahtalus, makes his home in Grim Mortis.
- To get between levels there are gateways at specific locations on each level, though the gateways to ascend and descend are separate and typically distant from one another.
- Each level is overseen and ruled by one of the Lords or Ladies of Dyval: Hel, Diabolus, Leviathan, Rhada, Mephisto, Nickodeamis and Sahtalus himself, who has the most authority as Supreme Lord Dyval.
- There are 'shortcuts' to get around, but this requires entering a Lord or Lady of Dyval's Citadel, which is tantamount to suicide if you're uninvited.
- Deevils are broken into several categories: Host, War Steeds, Lesser Dyvalian, and Greater Dyvalian.
- The Dyvalian's greatest weakness, as with demons, is their True Name. With a Dyvalian's true name, you can force them to do things against their will, but most would sooner die than give up such a secret.

As informed as they were going to be on short notice, the group was picked up by one of Reeve's cyborg 'girls' and driven to Security HQ, where they were given two hover platforms loaded with supplies and equipment for their journey, and each person's equipment and weaponry was checked over and upgraded where possible. Jase was gifted with [loaned, actually :D] a spirit bow from his patron Great Spirit, and was also given a device that would use his ability to make Communication Rifts, direct it specifically to Lazlo, and allow a waiting staff of magi to open the portal into a proper gateway for hasty egress, though Plato also informed them of a few more things: Dyval's dimensional fabric is nearly impenetrable. This means it takes a full team of magi to open a portal to the uppermost 'layer' of Dyval, and it is virtually impossible to leave once you get into the deeper levels. The group will need to return to Dyval Prime in order to leave. The good Councillor also gave the group seven envelopes, one for each level of Dyval, and strict instructions to only open one per level, as it would provide them with a rudimentary map.

Armed, armoured and learned, the D.A.R.T. boarded their transportation, Anna and Mouse at the wheel, and passed through the gateway, entering Dyval Prime. The ride through the portal was rough, a far cry from the instant transportation Rifts typically provide, no doubt due to the realm's tough dimensional fabric, but more surprising was what the group found on the other side. An idyllic paradise, a virtual garden of Eden in the heart of summer, a blue sky above, green grass below, and a sun-dappled forest all around, with a lake just to the west. Pausing to take stock of their surroundings, test their envelope's map-making capabilities, and raise an eyebrow at the apparent beauty of the place, some songbirds flew over to the transports, and with no warning whatsoever promptly transformed into 10 foot long slavering infernal hounds!

Snapping out of their surprise as quickly as they could, the group repelled the eight hounds with no casualties, discovering that this particular monster [hypothesized to be of the War Steed classification by Mouse] bore an extreme weakness to silver. When combined with the blessing ritual Eris bestowed on each group member's primary weapon, this made short work of the attackers. But what's for sure is this: Dyval Prime may look beautiful, but it absolutely deserves its' place among the levels of this dimension of Hell. :demon:

Dyval Prime: Day One.

...If you can count days in a place with no night.

July 16th [contd]: Pressing on, the group used the open air above the lake to their west to press on, as their hover platforms would be severely slowed if they had to cut their way through the forest via laser fire, in addition to attracting virtually every Deevil for miles around. Speeding across the water, the group saw some Deevils mounted on large, infernal hummingbirds with hawk-like beaks, and were forced to lay low by the water's edge under the branches of the forest to avoid detection. Seeing more airborne patrols ahead, the group decided to search for a way back into the trees, and located one just wide enough for their transportation. They also began to wonder about the apparent lack of sun in the sky, though there was an abundance of light. It was hypothesized that Dyval Prime was literally a never-ending summer day, perfect in every way. Needless to say, they did not look forward to spending the night in a noon-like level of brightness.

Squeezing through the forest, the group came across a wild orchard of peculiar fruit. Not trusting it, the group nevertheless took the opportunity to take a short break for lunch, supplied by Mouse's stash of subs. As they watched, a monkey-like being came into view and began investigating the fruit. Persia, using her knowledge of life-forms, concluded the creature was likely not native to Dyval, and the group also noticed it was injured. Much to their astonishment, the wound on the little mammal healed as it ate a particular variety of the fruits present in the orchard. Moving to another tree, it ate another type of fruit, and once done swung off into the forest. Before the team could investigate the potentially safe fruit, however, a pack of Bonelings came into view, watching the group curiously before starting to approach. Deeming it time to go, the hover platforms were kicked back into gear and the group attempted to high-tail it out of there, though the Bonelings were in hot pursuit, swinging through the trees above.

Despite Mouse and Anna putting their feet to the floor, the Bonelings could not be shaken, using the trees slowing the party's egress to their advantage. With the laser turrets beneath the platforms unable to aim high enough to strike their pursuers, the group got to test their ranged combat abilities. After a fusillade of laser fire, ion shots, and magic energy arrows, all but three of the Bonelings were laid low. Dropping back, the Bonelings huddled together, drawing up the bones of their fallen and combining with them into a Bonehulk, a towering version of their original ape-like form, very much like an undead, infernal gorilla. Giving chase once more, the Bonehulk quickly gained ground, and very nearly managed to reach the platforms, being repelled at the last moment by Anna testing out her newest weapon, a boltgun. With a storm of armour-piercing, exploding shells, the Bonehulk was shattered, though the thunderous noise produced by the bolter forced the group to proceed at top speed and with Eris casting invisibility so as to avoid the attention of the patrols alerted to their whereabouts.

Managing to avoid the swarming patrols, the group pressed on, and in the end the disturbance caused by the battle with the Bonehulk proved advantageous, as it kept the patrols in that area while they proceeded towards Sanctum Lake. [Mouse also took advantage of the peace, and decided to let Persia try her hand at piloting while she grabbed a short nap. ;)] Growing tired, the group began searching for a place to rest, despite the eternal daylight. Finding a clearing large enough for the platforms, they covered their transportation in branches and pitched their tents between them, though were perplexed to find there was a large, Victorian-esque mansion just through the trees from their chosen campsite, though it seemed abandoned. Deciding they were too tired to worry about it just now, the group settled in to get some shut-eye, Eris taking first watch.

Fortunately none of them could hear the voice from deep within the mansion: “Ahhh... visitors...” Hmm...wonder what that's about?

On Dyval Prime?
It's either the worst of old cliches. waiting for somebody incredibly dumb to wander in, or else, considering it's an abandoned house on DYVAL PRIME, it's being given a wide berth by the (devilish) locals for a reason, possibly something so painfully GOOD that it can drive them away.

Wel'p, despite my game being canceled this week, here's your double-update as promised. :D

Dream-jacking, Hel-raising, Price-Gouging, Oh My!

July 17th: Having settled down for their rest, the group were soon fast asleep, save for Eris who had volunteered to take first watch. During her meditation, she felt a psychic presence on her consciousness, which she rebuffed before going to wake Jase for his turn on watch. Settling down for her nap, she cautioned her paramour to keep himself wary of psychic disturbances. Drifting off to sleep, all seemed well. On Jase's end, anyway.

Eris found herself, Mouse, and Persia waking up in what appeared to be a dingy basement with dirt floor and rotted wood ceiling, utterly dark save for what light crept in under the door at the top of the stairs. Getting to their feet, the girls tried to get their bearings, but were interrupted by a cold, oozing sensation pooling around their feet and beginning to climb up their legs. Deciding unanimously that their bearings were secondary to escaping, they bolted for the stairs, nearly recoiling from the rotted planks as the steps became riddled with screaming faces. Gritting their teeth and averting their eyes, the trio managed to pile out into the upstairs hall and slam the door, though they were not out yet, and a towering figure garbed in a long trench-coat, wide-brimmed hat, and steel boots was approaching them, heralded by the rattle of chains. Making a break down the hallway, the ladies soon realized they were getting nowhere, for the walls seemed like endless mirrors, and the shambling figure behind them seemed to be the only one capable of making any headway. Eris, forcing her magic to work through the sluggish-feeling atmosphere of the place, used a Shatter spell to break the mirrors, revealing a second hallway through one wall, through which they found, at last, the exit.

Waking up back in their tents, they found their wakeful companions in a similar state. Jase and Anna were having trouble with what seemed to be some manner of poltergeist, drawing rude gestures at them in the dirt and knocking things over. When Jase stomped on the stick the invisible force was using, the ghostly force set the wood ablaze, scorching the paint of his armor. Jumping into action, and glad her magic worked as it should, Eris cast her magic to reveal the responsible party: a Deevil Wraith. A battle ensued, and the group quickly realized that it was only because of Eris having blessed their weapons before departure that they could even harm the ghostly fiend. As the struggle wore on, the Wraith began to tantrum, caused a diversion with two ectoplasmic decoys, and made its' escape, threatening to "Tell Lady Hel" on the group.

Pressing on, the group decided they had to get out of Dyval Prime as soon as possible. Much to their confusion, they came upon Sanctum Lake not long thereafter, though their map indicated it should have been hours yet to their destination. Puzzling over this, they pressed on to the island, where several Host Stalkers were waiting in ambush for them. As the dust of this most recent battle cleared, the group looked to the north towards a gathering thunderstorm, and stood slack-jawed as they saw an aerial army of Deevils, headed by Lady Hel herself and her pet dragon Nidhogg, headed straight for them, clearly not pleased to have guests. Using the scroll within the envelope Plato provided, the group opened the Sanctum Lake portal and managed to escape to Dyzonia, Lord Diabolus' realm, and were most grateful that Lady Hel did not pursue them further.

Their entry point to Dyzonia appeared to be a thick, damp, rain-soaked jungle, and they pressed on through the only path available to them, and soon came to a small water-side cabin with a dock, the cabin bearing "Finn's Canoes" in cheery yellow paint on the side. Not at all sure what to make of the peculiar sight, the group approached warily. Much to their surprise, a man came to the door and invited them in, claiming he could help them on their way. Eris decided to go inside, though she kept the group apprised of the situation via radio. Finn's terms were straightforward: He would guarantee them complete safety for the next 500 miles of their journey. For a fair price, of course. Eris suggested two million credits for both transports, more if he could extend the distance. Finn counter-proposed by taking the price she suggested for increased distance, 4 million, and applied it to his original offer, now 4 million for 500 miles. Seeing Eris was annoyed by this, Finn mentioned he had an alternative deal to offer, though Eris was required to agree to it before he would tell her what it was. No fool, Eris refused, and Finn responded by increasing the price of the 500 miles to 5 million. Not willing to let him raise the price any higher or risk his alternative arrangement, Eris agreed.

Once paid, Finn did his work, affixing some manner of rune-like symbol to the belly of each transport and a flag to the fore, seeming to fix Persia with a peculiar look as he worked before heading back inside, giving the group a final, mocking bow of farewell. Persia, suspecting the man was of those who knew her race, the Fyrnians, were particularly valuable as pleasure slaves, asked Eris to put as much distance between them and Finn's Canoes as possible as quickly as possible, and the group got under way immediately.

Finn's Agreement: Good To The Last Mile. And Not A Step Further.

July 19th: Nearly two days, and very nearly 500 miles, after departing from Finn's Canoes, the group are well into the river-valley at the heart of Dyzonia when they begin spotting shapes encircling their transports under the water. Using Persia's computer and the platform's loudspeakers, they broadcasted a recording of Goji's roar, which seemed to work in driving their pursuers away. Unfortunately, it also got the attention of the Harpies that lived on the mountains on either side of the river, and a dark cloud of the flying hags began to form, with raiding parties flying in to heckle the group. With Eris' blessing having worn off en-route, the group had to go all out, and nearly a dozen Harpies were slain, as well as a half-dozen of their larger Dire counterparts before the group realized that the clouds consisted of hundreds more. During the fighting, a Dire Harpy regurgitated a glob of lava onto Anna's platform, robbing them of half their supplies, though as the weight lessened the platform had a sudden burst of speed. Remembering this, Persia proposed they transfer half the cargo from Mouse's platform to Anna's and so outrun the Harpies. Having enough time to do this amidst the constant attacks, however, is another story altogether.

Creator of the Chi grenade. Used in game by Kevarin [GM] and self as Mai - Civilian Martial artist that got amped via experiment. Ghost weapons and shirts rule.

Nano Missiles - used once and GM banned further use. They weren't THAT bad. and did stop a demon scout ship from returning with valuable info.

July 19th [cont'd]: With the massive flocks of Harpies, and their Dire counterparts, growing ever more agitated and sending increasingly large groups to harry them, the group decided it was time to throw caution to the wind. Jase and Persia put their weapons aside for a moment to begin pushing equipment from Mouse's barge to Anna's. A Dire Harpy tried to hit them with another spit of lava, but Anna's driving avoided any damage while the group hung on for dear life. Having taken to the sky, Eris sent waves of magic energy from her zweihander at the oncoming hordes to buy the group some time, though the Dire Harpies proved able to weave and dodge very well in-flight.

Finally tipping the scales even, the platforms were able to accelerate and the flock began dropping back, though they did not give up. Seeking to throw them off, Eris once again cast invisibility onto the platforms, though the Dire Harpy's status as Lesser Deevils meant they were still able to see the fleeing group, if with more trouble than before. Fortunately the platforms were fast enough to escape the Harpies' territory, and the group was able to breathe a sigh of relief, at least for a while. Exhausted from her spell, Eris passed out for a time, leaving the others to decide on a course of action, and Jase and Persia agreed they needed to stop to see what they had left of their equipment. Checking the map, they saw a spot near the end of the river valley that looked suitable, and would provide them a good vantage point to scout the cliff face for a way down to the southern half of Dyzonia.

As they proceeded, Jase and Anna spotted what appeared to be a blue-rimmed hole in the sky in the distance, growing rapidly larger. Jase, quite perplexed yet in awe, commented that a Rift shouldn't be possible within Dyval, the dimensional fabric of the place was incredibly strong and it would have had to take a mammoth effort and a not insignificant amount of PPE. Eyes glued to the sky, the group saw a polished, near-golden hull of metal sweeping back to short fins and wings begin pushing through the hole, the orange glow of an engine just visible behind it. A spaceship of roughly the same size as the D.A.R.T.'s Void-Wolf had just arrived in Dyval. The ship circled in a wide arc before landing in the southern reaches of Dyval, out of the group's sight. [http://games.chruker.dk/eve_online/graphics/ids/1024/2044.jpg] Discussing the ship's origins amongst themselves, the group agreed it was possible the vessel was here by accident, as Persia mentioned having seen ships crash into other dimensions by accident in an emergency.

Redirecting their attention to the shore they were making for, the group received a nasty surprise when they spotted a Deevil outpost on the very stretch of land they were making for, and a dozen or more of the infernals eagerly awaiting the group making landfall. Adjusting their course they made it back into open water and set the platforms in neutral while they took stock. The only way down the cliff that they could see was beyond the outpost, and it would be a real hassle to get to it. The only other way would be to jump down the waterfall, using the hover platforms' engines to slow and steady their fall, as the map's representation made the waterfall out to be of manageable height. Jase, put on the spot as temporary leader [and very uncomfortable with it :demon:], decided the waterfall was the best option rather than risk fighting their way to the cliff-descent.

As the platforms gunned over the edge, there was a cartoon-like moment of the group hanging in mid-air as the simple fact that their map was wrong sank in. The waterfall was not of manageable height. It was a 700 foot drop and their engines had already begun to whine as they had nothing to form a cushion of air against. With the moment of hang-time over, the platforms plummeted like stones, though to Mouse and Anna's credit they kept them stable as they fell. Persia, using her knowledge of mathematics and engineering, quickly devised a plan to maximize their odds, though she admitted that it would NOT prevent a crash, just increase their odds of survival. The plan was straightforward: angle the platforms to push off the falling water while it was still thick enough to provide a sufficiently solid surface, causing the platforms to fall while angling away from the waterfall so as to try to avoid being pulled underwater and crushed by the falls themselves. Next, once they neared the maximum height the hover engines could work at, they had to adjust their angle so the platforms could begin forming the air cushion and lessen the speed of their impact. Third, they had to, just before impact, completely even out the platforms and try to skim across the surface of the water like a skipping stone, or risk going in tip-first and flipping end over end.

It was a good plan. However, just as the platforms were adjusting to begin creating their cushions of air, Jase, in an honest attempt to help, used his Telekinesis to create further drag on the platforms to slow them. Unfortunately, the pilots were not expecting this, and Mouse overcompensated, wrenching the front of her platform too high up. Luckily, Jase was able to assist her in evening things out, but valuable time had been lost, and it seemed to come back to bite them when it came time for the final adjustment, as Mouse's nose did not come up fast enough. It was only because of Persia, relinquishing her grip on the platform to leap to the pilot's seat to yank back on the stick, that the platform avoided becoming scrap metal.

As Persia had said, though, there was simply no way to avoid a crash, and the platforms hit water, the rushing waves shoving the exhausted group overboard with ease, where they were dragged helplessly along in the speeding metal's wake. Fortunately, the water served as the perfect buffer, and the platforms came to a halt undamaged. Not so lucky were the group as the wake of the vehicles forced them directly up against the hull and into unconsciousness. The powerful river carried them downstream, and they and their battered transports were washed up in the shadow of an old, ivy-covered castle sinking into the surrounding swamp. The Citadel of Diabolus.

The scene changes: a dank, dungeon-like and poorly lit chamber with pools of reeking sludge surrounded by pens of deformed creatures, while two figures work around some manner of tank in the centre of the room while the unconscious forms of Diabolus' latest victims are deposited nearby for the Dyval Lord's later enjoyment. Even through the veils of unconsciousness, the group hear a voice brushing against their minds...

Aha, a post that's actually within the acceptable time allotment! Victory! :D And so, without further ado... *Drum-roll.*

July 20th: Mission - Unfavourable

Rousing from her P.P.E.-deprived state, Eris was rather perplexed to find herself underwater. Her power armour's life support systems were functioning, however, and aside from some unaccounted-for bruises she felt forming, she seemed fine. Climbing out of the water, she found herself in a small pool of water off of the main river sheltered by a sand bar. Seeing no sign of her crew, she got her bearings and, looking upstream, guessed [correctly ] that the team had attempted to jump the 'falls.

Proceeding downriver in search of her D.A.R.T.s, she came across what could only be the Citadel of Diabolus, the resident Dyval Lord, though this conclusion was reached due to the bucket-line of Deevils passing her team into the building more than its' appearance. For, had she not been given other proof, Eris may not have guessed that the old, crooked, ivy-and-moss-covered tower slowly sinking into the surrounding swamp could EVER be the home of a Dyval Lord.

With the crew passed inside, Eris had little choice but to go in after them, and set about scouting the surroundings, noting the golden-hulled ship the crew spotted earlier parked just beyond the swamp. Despite Dyzonia's overcast conditions, Eris made use of the 500 foot Citadel's shadow to Shadow Meld her way up to the building, making use of a gangway of sorts from the ship's side of the swamp to the tower, and slip inside.

Once inside, and despite the castle's helter-skelter construction, Eris quickly set about trying to find her team and their equipment. Before she could get too far from the back door, however, she heard voices approaching and hid in an alcove as a procession from the ship parked outside entered, headed by a warped, hunchbacked troll-like creature radiating a sinister magic aura [presumably Diabolus himself] and a familiar wrinkly, slightly yellow-skinned old man, the Gene-Splicer Gaphion. While not thrilled to see an old enemy, it was what came behind the two that set Eris on edge most of all, a bio-tank covered in a cloth of some kind preventing her from seeing what was inside, though an old sense that she had gone a long time without using began to grate in the back of her skull: there were living, active JENOVA cells present in that tank.

Taking a moment to steady her nerves, Eris quickly pressed on, locating the team's transports via careful exploration, and rescuing their confiscated equipment from a band of bickering imps, with a little creativity in terms of dialogue [using the Imp's paranoia of Diabolus' majordomo O'tho'leron to her advantage], and keeping unseen. Gathering up the crew's gear, Eris began searching for the route to the dungeon to spring her fellow D.A.R.T.s...

July 20th: Magnum Opus Complete?

Beginning to rouse from their unconsciousness, the group taken into the dungeon are roused by the echoing voice in their minds, [{Will you play with me?}] and see a hunch-backed and twisted shape conversing with a tall, thin figure [Diabolus and Gaphion, though they don't realize this yet] in the centre of the dungeon, though it is too far for them to hear their whispered words. As they speak, they appear to be setting a bio-tank of sorts into a mounting in the centre of the room, and connecting tentacle-like tubes to it, linking the tank to the sludge-pools set in the floor around the dungeon. The pair finish their work around the green-lit bio-tank and make their way back upstairs, and those of the team who have regained consciousness begin picking themselves up. Persia and Mouse rouse first, seeing that they are chained by their ankles but otherwise unbound. Persia quickly became more concerned with the contents of the bio-tank's contents, seeing the shape within it was small enough to be a child. Slipping out of her ankle-cuff with some slight contortion of her ankle joints, she quickly moved to get a better look at the tank while Mouse slipped out of her bonds using her own special expertise and Jase began to rouse as well. Anna, however, had an ugly bruise on her head and it seemed unlikely that she would wake any time soon.

As the others picked themselves up off the ground, Persia had moved nearer to the tank and could see that the shape inside the tank was indeed a child, and she realized, after a moment, that the little boy looked nearly identical to Law! Mentioning this to the others and puzzling over how this could be, the group's speculations were interrupted by the child's appearance abruptly shifting from a tanned, jet-black haired child with striking features to a softer-faced, paler child with silver hair. Deciding that the mystery of the little boy could wait, Persia began trying to find a way to drain and open the tank. The tentacle-like attachments Diabolus and Gaphion attached to the tank chose that moment to begin their appointed task, however, pumping the sludge-like fluid from the various pools around the room into the tank. To Persia's horror, the child inside begins to change at the introduction of the sludge, his skin becoming a dull red like that of a demon's, tufts of fur-like red hair sprouting at his wrists, ankles and around his collarbone, while purple markings spread across his chest and up onto his face, which was now that of a horned skull. The child's hair, previously unable to decide between black and silver, lengthened and became a mix of the two states, primarily silver with black mixed in.
[http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll64/ThiefKeyKing/Bleach/5c7e6cec316009c9d03b54de005114a7.jpg if you ignore the sword and tattered robe ;)]

Near-tears, Persia collapsed beside the tank and began to apologize to the child, though it was unclear if he could hear her. Meanwhile, Mouse had picked the lock on Anna's ankle cuff and passed her to Jase while she moved to investigate the door, and heard Eris coming down the stairs to get them. Letting Eris in, the commander entered the room just in time to see the now-horned child look at Persia, who seemed to hear some unspoken request, as she moved away from the tank as the child shattered it from within. Dropping the team's equipment in horror, Eris was momentarily speechless as she beheld the child-turned-monster. Recovering quickly, a heated debate took place between Eris and Persia: [and yes, our feline doctor purrs a bit when she talks ;)]
(Cloud): "DOC... MOVE... now please."
(Persia): *Shakes her head* "A child and a victim. No need to worrrry." *Moving towards him.*
(Cloud): "DOC! Bad idea Doc! That's no child!"
(GM_Cy): *The horned child looks at Persia for a moment as if to see if she means him harm, then turns his attention to Eris.* {I... know you.}
(Persia): "I saw with my own eyes, Ms. Errris. The child looked exactly like Law. Just about 8 orrr 9 years old. This happened when the black sludge pumped in. Therrre was an odd switch momentarrrily beforrre wherrre his tanned skin went verrry pale and his hairrr frrrom black to white...but he is a victim...can't you see that? If he meant me harrrm he would cerrrtainly have done it alrrready."
(Cloud): "Gaphion was here! That's one of HIS... and... It has some of the General in him. Back when he had... OUT OF MY SKULL! You are NOT Sephiroth!"

Needless to say, Eris felt very strongly that the child was something they should have nothing to do with, but Persia managed to win the commander over enough to give the little boy a chance. Curious, Mouse asked the boy if he had a name, and he showed them a plaque at the base of the tank reading “Test Subject 'Albtraum' - Magnum Opus Project.” Still suspicious, Eris stipulated that the boy was to tell them the moment his 'mommy' began scratching at his mind, and the boy responded by explaining that his mommy was kind, and gave a short description of her that sounded remarkably like Justice! Even more perplexed than before, Eris decided the boy could come along with them, but if the 'other mother' in the back of his head [the 'J-word' as Eris referred to her :P] began to pipe up he was to inform them immediately. Albtraum, acting very much like a cheerful child, thanked the reluctant commander with an impromptu hug that nearly made her jump a foot in the air, but she composed herself enough to pat the kid on the back and shoo him along after Persia.

Deciding it was WELL past the time to be gone, the group, now re-equipped, headed upstairs and followed Eris' computer-stored path to their platforms, though Gaphion and Diabolus noticed their pet project's disappearance before they could make good their escape. Reaching the room, a group of Fiends on guard duty emerged to confront them [just a hair too fast for the group to take Mouse's suggestion and hide against the wall to let them pass by], and a desperate struggle ensued, the group tired and battered but determined to escape before the deity-level Dyval Lord could arrive on-scene against the half-dozen Lesser Deevils. Eris, particularly tired after using a great deal of her magic to infiltrate the castle, began absorbing the Deevil's P.P.E. into her Zweihander to make use of, but miscalculated the second time, drawing in too much and receiving some of the infernal's P.P.E. into herself, spurring her into a short-term rampage, during which Albtraum, determined to 'help', called upon some dormant instinct to fight. Joining them on the front line was Mouse, using her rune dagger and short sword combination to devastating effect while Jase lent support and Persia got Albtraum to calm down, and the way was soon open. Persia and Mouse quickly got the platforms ready for flight, though they had no way out and were forced to begin blasting their way free with the platform's laser turrets, while Eris tried to block the door herself.

As the laser fire from the guns began making a hole, the castle began to rearrange itself at Diabolus' whim, and Albtraum, displaying strength disproportionate to his size, jumped from the platform to Eris' side, picked her up around the waist, and leaped back onto the platform, depositing the exhausted commander safely on-deck while Persia and Mouse gunned for the exit, barely seconds ahead of Diabolus. On their way out, the group realized with Gaphion's spaceship nearby there was no way they could outrun the Gene-Splicer and Dyval Lord, and, resolving to do something about this, they did a quick fly-by. Persia, thinking fast, used her handheld computer to hack the ship's computer and command it to open every locked door within, meaning every single genetic creation Gaphion had made would be running loose, buying the team valuable time to escape. :D

The group's gotten out of another tight spot, but this one was certainly a close call, and now they have a true wild card along with them; Albtraum, a child made to look monstrous with a sinister voice in the back of his head constantly scraping at his consciousness. Was Eris' initial opinion of the boy correct, or could it really be true that he has the potential to be good? Time will tell, and it will probably be up to the group to help him find his way. Why them? Well, they are the PC's after all. :demon:

Said wife of entrenpeneur will most likely be having her boss ask for a buiness meeting with the man for her latest project.

"Upon reflection, as we traverse the middle levels of Dyvall, I have come to a conclusion; Russian-warlord technology SUCKS as far as practicality goes in their vehicle designs!
These platforms, while great for dealing with un-augmented, lightly armoured peasents by their Tzarist overlords... they are next to worthless for environmental protection, or protecion of any stripe.
-ahem-
I am loath to keep asking for use of specialist Tahlor's hovercraft. That's the reason why we've been puked on, dive-bombed and otherwise been subjected to all that these hells can provide for our 'entertainment'.
Therefore I'll be asking Mouse to speak to her husband on my behalf for raw materials and machinery / electronics, so if this type of mission ever crops up again, we'll be better prepared for it.

I have a cunning plan..."

But Its' a Dry Heat!

July 21st: Waking from a night in the dismal, rain-drenched jungle that is Dyzonia, the group were sore, cramped, but at the very least sufficiently rested to continue on their way. Anna, waking at last from her unconsciousness, was introduced to Albtraum, albeit in a startling manner, having woken up to see his skeletal face looming over her. After her initial panic, fumbling for her weapons and eventually firing a shot literally between the devil-child's horns, Eris and the others informed her that he was no threat, or at least not for the time being. Seeking to make up for scaring the young Sororitas-in-training, Albtraum used his psionic power of Deaden Pain to alleviate her headache, earning him a slightly awkward hug of gratitude from Anna, and earning her a disturbing moment as, in his exuberance, the child-sized Albtraum picked her easily off the ground.

Getting under way, Jase got his first shot at driving the hover-platforms and proved he's come a long way from his days of being afraid of technology. Making their way along the river at top speed, they soon reach their destination, the island upon which the South Gate portal rests. Taking a moment before making landfall, Eris gathered the group together to cast Sustain upon them to compensate for their much-diminished supplies. Giving the all-clear, Jase then proceeded to open the portal for them to pass through into the 3rd level of Dyval, which they would shortly learn to be the Great Dyval Desert. They would also discover that the level boasted a sizzling temperature of 30 degrees Celsius... in the shade!

Getting a look at their surroundings, they discovered they had emerged in a hollowed-out ruin in the middle of a valley with sheer cliffs to the north, south and west, with [oh not MORE ] Harpies circling the peaks high above. The only way out of the valley was to the east, which seemed to be a slowly-declining descent. Proceeding along the northern cliff-face in the hopes of avoiding any trouble with the tens of thousands of Harpies above, the group were forced to pull up short as they very nearly went careening over a cliff. Peering over the edge, they saw they were in fact upon a plateau, and the descent to the east appeared to be a series of plateaus, each with a few hundred feet difference between their heights. Eris, remembering the results of her team's attempt to jump the 'falls back in Dyzonia, asked Anna to wait a moment while she considered how to proceed, and even raised the question of whether or not Xarl was worth the tremendous effort and risks they had taken and would take to reach him, if he was even still alive. Mouse, exhibiting her daredevil streak once again, ended the discussion by steering her platform straight over the cliff, grinding her way down the steep incline at breakneck speed, and somehow managing to get all the way down safe and sound, much to the relief of her passengers, Jase and Albtraum. Back on Anna's platform, Eris put her Techno-Wizard know-how to use, hot-wiring the platform with a quick-and-dirty jury-rig using her Fly as the Eagle spell, impressing those below with a most entertaining display of a flying platform. :D

Making their way down the remaining cliffs, the team entered the desert proper, the heat quickly skyrocketing to over 45 degrees, and Eris changed out of her armour into a white kimono while the others did what they could, with even Anna's environmental suit struggling against the overwhelming heat. But as they say, necessity is the mother of invention, and Eris devised another jury-rigged TW device that provided both platforms with portable shade and a reduction in temperature, much to the crew's relief.

Their moment of optimism was spoiled, however, when Albtraum abruptly collapsed into a deep slumber. With a series of unpleasant noises, the devil-child had a rapid growth-spurt, advancing from the size of an eight-year old to a young adolescent of about thirteen. Eris asked Persia to keep an eye on the boy, explaining to the others that a common method used in genetics is to rapidly age a 'unit' to maturation for them to be useful quickly, but sometimes it goes wrong and they age too far, even unto death. Persia, knowing of this, readily agreed to do all she could to keep Albtraum healthy.

Circling around the mountains to the north, the platforms headed into the open desert, though they were interrupted by a lone Shock Beast dropping into their midst by way of its' lightning-teleport. After a short but fierce battle, the team emerged victorious, though their reward seemed to come in the form of the wind rapidly picking up, and carrying the sand along with it. A sandstorm's brewing, and this desert is tens of thousands of miles across. :demon:

Are to him but the Playthings of the Moment,
To be turned over with the Flick of a Finger,
And the Turning of a Page"

Creator of the Chi grenade. Used in game by Kevarin [GM] and self as Mai - Civilian Martial artist that got amped via experiment. Ghost weapons and shirts rule.

Nano Missiles - used once and GM banned further use. They weren't THAT bad. and did stop a demon scout ship from returning with valuable info.
