One game system – every genre – countless worlds – endless adventure

The last week has been a chaotic and crazy one here in the Palladium Megaverse®. We lost power Saturday morning and the power outage fried part of our phone system, so if you have had trouble reaching the office or were unable to leave us a message after hours, that is why (in the meantime, try the sales line after hours, 734-721-2903; that voicemail is working). The refrigerator in the office kitchen/lunchroom also died and is too old to repair, and Chuck Walton’s brakes went out on his car on Sunday. Thankfully, he was moving slowly and was able to avoid getting into an accident. Kathy’s garage started to flood during a storm, so she had to go out during a downpour to unclog the gutters filled with leaves. Wayne lost power one night and realized the annoying buzzing and crackling sound he heard was a downed electrical wire he could see through the woods outside his window! It caused a small fire but the fire department was on it. Another Palladium insider had his house and car flooded by a storm. He is staying at a friend’s house. Crazy, right? All of this contributed to slowing our progress on Rifts® Secrets of the Atlanteans™, but the book is being typeset and in layout right now. It will go to the printer Friday afternoon or Monday morning. The book is truly awesome. We start final edits on Nightbane® Dark Designs™ Monday!

We’ve been spending most of our time working on book releases and a bit of Gen Con prep as it is coming up fast. We also made our decision about hosting the Palladium Open House. Read on for details.

2018 Palladium Open House – April 19-22, 2018

With feedback from the poll and personally (Scott Gibbons, myself and others), we decided to hold the Palladium Open House in 2018. It was looking like Palladium Open House (POH) votes were leaning heavily toward 2019, however, that changed in dramatic fashion over the crazy weekend with the votes overwhelmingly leaning toward 2018. As of this morning, the poll has swung back slightly to 2019. However, we have also been speaking to people via other means and much like the poll, people seemed split about 50/50. One difference, however, is that most of the people Scott and I spoke with said they would attend whether it was held in 2018 or 2019, even if their personal preference leaned toward 2019. They just wanted us to have another one.

The two common reasons most people seemed to have for preferring 2019 were to save up more money to spend at the POH (thank you, that sentiment is very appreciated), and concern that the POH would further delay product releases. The latter was also a concern of mine, but Scott Gibbons, Palladium’s new business manager, assures me that he will not let that happen, and that he and his team will do a lot of the heavy lifting for the 2018 POH. Scott has been on the ball so far, so I’m going to trust him on this.

So the decision has been made, there will be a Palladium Open House (POH) – April 19-22, 2018. Start making your plans now. We will post details about the event, how to reserve your tickets, hotels, etc., in a week or two. Now that the decision has been made, I’m feeling excited about it. I hope you are too! Our sincere thanks to all of you who participated in both POH polls, it is very appreciated.

What is the Palladium Open House? Four days of fun and non-stop Palladium games with the very people who created them. And at the place where they were created, the Palladium office and warehouse. On one hand it is sort of a mini-convention held at the Palladium Books warehouse. It is limited to 250-300 people who come from across the USA, Canada and around the world (typically the UK, Germany, Spain, South America, and sometimes as far as Australia).

The POH is more than a mere convention. Many of the non-stop Palladium gaming events are run by the very writers, artists and game designers who create them, but you also have easy and frequent access to me, the Palladium staff, and usually 20+ Palladium artists, writers and creators all on hand for the ENTIRE event – the largest gathering of Palladium creators ANYWHERE. Plus the whole thing has a fun, joyful, family reunion, big party vibe.

So won’t you join us for a 3-4 day gaming party? I hope you will. Please spread the word about the Palladium Open House. It’s only 9 months away! Details to follow very soon.

One game system – every genre – countless worlds – endless adventure

This week was filled with meetings, phone calls, and brainstorming as our business manager, Scott Gibbons, gets up to speed and starts implementing a number of plans for improvement. Otherwise, we have been working on one project or another, from Robotech RPG Tactics™ to Rifts® Secrets of the Atlanteans, and a heck of a lot of other things. Rifts® Book of Magic™ is available as a PDF book on DriveThru, and so is Robotech® Strike Force™ (1995). And don’t forget, the current Robotech® RPG titles are being made available as e-books on Amazon, iPad and other digital platforms right now. The Palladium Tumblers are selling fast, so don’t wait if you want one. We have a new fun sale for you, and other updates, so please read on for all the latest goodness.

2018 (or 2019) Palladium Open House, anyone?

Hosting a 2018 or 2019 Palladium Open House (POH) is one of the many things we have debated and explored this week. Scott has been lobbying for us to do another for some time, and has me and the Palladium crew half convinced to pull the trigger on the idea.

Scott would like us to do one as soon as April 19-22, 2018 – only 10 months from now – or April, 2019 (22 months from now). We have already made a cursory investigation of hotel availability and we would probably need to put people at two different hotels, both within a few minutes from the office, with room rates that look to be in the $55-$80 per night range (Red Roof Inn and Extended Stay, respectively), plus tax, of course.

After discussing the idea with Kathy and the rest of the Palladium crew, I told Scott that if enough fans are interested in us hosting a POH, we would do it. I know there is a hardcore group of fans who want one badly, but what about other fans? Scott has posted a poll in All Things Palladium on the message boards, to gauge interest and to see which year most of you favor. I know some of you need a solid year or more to plan ahead, so let us know which you would prefer, April 2018 or 2019. Please respond to the poll and reach out to us any way you would like, but let us know at your earliest convenience. If it is 2018, we need to book hotels and start planning now.

Head on over to the forums to put your vote in. Thank you for your feedback. http://palladium-megaverse.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=153738

One game system – every genre – countless worlds – endless adventure

Happy Independence Day to all of my Fellow Americans. Okay, that’s a little bit early, but the Fourth of July is just around the corner, and I imagine many of you will be heading out for a long weekend today or tomorrow. Enjoy the holiday.

Our week here at Palladium has been a full one. Julius has been kept busy in the warehouse shipping out many online orders and a large number of distributor restock orders. Awesome! Keep those orders coming. Wayne has been active getting new PDF books posted to DriveThruRPG as well as editing and other duties, and Chuck has been drawing away. My main focus this week has been getting Rifts® Secrets of the Atlanteans™ finished so we can get it off to the printer. I was able to devote most of the week to writing and editing, which meant peeling 100 manuscript pages off the printer for Wayne and Alex’s final edits. Meanwhile I’m working away on the remaining parts of the book. I’m happy to report everyone has been loving what they are reading. Awesome book. When it is at the printer next week, we dive immediately into Nightbane® Dark Designs™. Both sourcebooks should be July releases.

I think I put together a very fun and useful sale for the holiday weekend, with several titles that should come in handy for use with Rifts® Secrets of the Atlanteans™. Read on for details.

One game system – every genre – countless worlds – endless adventure

A whole lot has been brewing behind the scenes and I can finally reveal some of it. There are a great number of things happening or in development. Here are some of the highlights:

  • A new sale. Enjoy it while you can.
  • New book releases for Rifts®, Nightbane®, Palladium Fantasy®, The Rifter® and others are coming, starting in July. See book descriptions elsewhere in this Update.
  • Robotech® Ebooks. Spread the word about Robotech® ebooks now available on Amazon, iBoooks, Kindle and a dozen other platforms (more details below), as well as hundreds of PDF titles available on DriveThruRPG.com.
  • Palladium business manager. We have brought in Scott Gibbons to manage the company. Scott will handle many of the day to day business matters and marketing. This should lead to more products and timely releases, and improved communications. More details elsewhere in this Weekly Update.
  • Stronger social media presence. Scott has a large range of plans for this.
  • A return to Murmurs from the Megaverse®. Returning with at least a weekly post from me and one from Scott.
  • New Palladium website with better accessibility for mobile devices is coming in the months ahead, along with other improvements and products.
  • Palladium podcast. We hope to launch this very soon.
  • Mark Freedman at Surge Licensing, most famous for making the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles® into a mass market sensation, represents and manages all Palladium intellectual properties (I.P.s). Mark’s job is to expand Palladium’s expansive IP library into new mediums and markets.
  • Video game. Palladium is in discussion with a video game company interested in the Rifts® I.P. We also spoke with a virtual reality game company this week.
  • Television. A television production company is developing a Palladium I.P. as a television series. A writer has been hired and is working on the pilot and series outline. Our apologies, we cannot identify the company or the I.P. at this time, but it is not Rifts®.
  • Film. Palladium continues to field interest from Hollywood with three Palladium I.P.s currently under consideration. Disney retains the film rights to Rifts®.
  • Robotech® RPG Tactics™ Wave Two and the relaunch of Robotech® RPG Tactics™ is very much in progress with plans for numerous areas of promotion and fun, RRT product releases, demo kits, organized play, tournaments, and more, as well as big plans for the Robotech® RPG books.
  • Rifts® miniatures board game by Rogue Heroes Publishing. Another licensed product with a third party company. The publisher has delayed this product to reorganize, get everything finished and to make sure it is everything he wants it to be. Carmen wants to blow people away and Palladium remains incredibly excited about it.

NEWS – Scott Gibbons joins the Palladium team as business manager

Scott Gibbons is uniquely qualified and positioned to manage and help build the company. He has experience in running a toy company, management and finance, and is a life-long gamer intimately familiar with Palladium’s many games.

  • 5 years running a small toy company.
  • 10 years in finance.
  • Extensive training in management.
  • Extensive knowledge of games.
  • 25 years of playing Palladium RPG products.

The plan is for Scott to take over and handle many of the day to day business matters and marketing, freeing me to focus on what I do best and love most, the creative and licensing. We welcome Scott to the Palladium family and expect you will quickly see a number of positive changes in the weeks and months ahead. Starting with better communication and more frequent and timely product releases starting in July.
