Rider O.C.C.s

Unread post by Crimson Dynamo »

I have a player who's interested in being a "bad ass motorcycle rider," and she asked me for some suggestions for classes to look at. I could only think of one off the top of my head, the Phaeton Juicer, but I know there had to be more. Plus she's not interested in playing a drugged-up superhero and was looking for something more mundane, but with notable benefits/bonuses when riding motorcycles, hovercycles, horses, and vehicles of that nature.

I was wondering if any of you guys had some suggestions that I could pass on?

If you are up to importing from another PB game....
Maybe using the hardware power cat. in the HU2 core book. Using the mechanic/auto mod'er specilization the player can build both char and her ride. WOC I think they get a bonus to drive what they fab-up.
May you be blessed with the ability to change course when you are off the mark.

Rifts Russia Reaver Armored Cavalry's got some nice bonuses for vehicle combat.

True Atlanteans have cool heavy metal biker tattoos. So I'd say a True Atlanean O.C.C. or take the race with either Techno-Wizard or one of the TW Variants.

Be a cool biker guy with tats & a flying magic harley

Mount based riders would look at:
-Simvan (SB1o, SB3, WB13, WB30)
-Blood Rider (WB9, NOTE this class is built around a specific "partner" mount)
-CyberKnight (they get Horsemanship:CK) or other Knight-style OCC
-Cowboy (WB14, horsemanship, might checkout a few of the other classes here)
-Tundra Ranger Calvalry (WB20)
-Battle Magus Controller (WB16)

Mechanized Riders:
-CS RPA "Fly Boy" Ace (WB11, CS Skycycle specialist)
-Psi-Tech (WB12, soup up vehicle and psychic link)
-Gizmoteer (WB9) and Technowizard (main) can enchant a vehicle beyond what a Psi-Tech can do
-Pacos Raider (WB13, maybe I don't have the book handy)
-Wingrider RPA Pilot (WB17, more of a "Green Goblin" style of getting around again I don't have the book handy)

General:
-anyone who picks the proper piloting skills and support skills
-there are cyber-implants that can confer bonuses to operation
-Robot RCC using a Motorcycle Chassis (maybe a dual body gestalt setup with a humandoid chassis rider?) and decked out

Seconding Taalsimn's suggestion, Russia's mechanized calvary is probably your best bet. Of note, the character starts skilled with motorcycles, hovercycles and snowmobiles, takes only half penalties for attempting difficult manuevers and can fire aimed shots from a moving vehicle (they can also fire two handed weapons one handed), and get some decent bonuses to fight when on a motorcycle. They also get 2 extra pilot skils at +15%. They can use one of these to get " Horsemanship: Knight" from the same book, and, if you're feeling generous, you could let them take "Offensive Driving" (ninjas and superspies) for the other skill, which gives a hefty bonus to attempt difficult maneuvers, and then they could taken "Offensive Driving" (RUE) as an "other" skill.

Alternatively (or in addition) you could add on the "Super Pilot" power from "Heroes of the Multiverse."

World Book: Australia has a class which is probably exactly what she's looking for. It's called the Road Sentinel O.C.C., aka the Mad Max class.

It gives sharpshooting bonuses while riding/driving, damage resistance to crashing (which always does S.D.C. damage even in M.D. collisions), an extra attack/action while driving, and a few other perks. It has a pretty nice skill selection to boot, including all the mechanical skills she'd need/want for her ride. The only issue there is that they're not able to take Computer skills for some bizarre reason (though they're available through Secondary Skills using the RUE rules). It also comes with a special budget that she can use to soup up her bike.

The Outback Combat Driving skill it comes with also does what some of the aforementioned classes grant, such as reducing the penalties for difficult maneuvers by half.

Thanks for all of the replies. It's much appreciated. I think of the options given thus far, the Road Sentinel or Reaver Armored Cavalry are the closest to what she's after.

On a related note, are there any compiled rules for modifying vehicles somewhere? I know I've seen an assortment of stuff scattered here and there (improving M.D.C., adding a force field, etc.), but I don't know if it was ever all brought together under a single set of at least self-consistent rules.

Also, how do you guys handle characters who begin the game with skills like Vehicle Armorer which lists all kinds of mods you can make to a vehicle, but... no real rules other than what mods do. Are you just left to wing it on your own?

You can borrow rules from Operator if you want. There is also a Rifter two parter of vehicle rules but it's not very comprehensive

If she doesn't mind using OCCs from another game there's the Reaper From Dead Reign RPG, Raider Professional driver turned Raider: DR 1, Wheelman (various options) DR 3, Road Reaper options DR 4,. There might be other biker orientated OCCs in the Rifter.

As for building things this isn't a complete list but here's what comes to mind. There's probably a bit of duplication in the rules. I haven't directly compared but they're very similar.

Robots - Heroes Unlimited, Rifts SB 1

Super vehicles - Heroes Unlimited, TMNT Guide to the Universe, AtB: Road Hogs, Ninjas & Superspies, Dead Reign 3 Endless Dead

Spaceships - Galaxy Guide and Mutants in Orbit, Rifts DB13 Fleets of the Three Galaxies
Space Stations - Rifts DB: 6 Three Galaxies

Airships - AtB: Mutants Down Under

Time Machines and Cross Dimensional Devices - TMNT: Transdimensional Turtles

Drones - DR6 Hell Followed

I hope this helps and you all have a good game.

following the 'other game' Character class...

There is the Hell Rider Character Class in the NB: Nightlands gamebook that can be used as a template for a CC.

A Phaeton Juicer combat biker would be a fairly bad mo fool of a biker. While there may be other obscure ones they would be the go to bad mo fool for a biker gang. Not to mention the mot common in NA.
The Clones are coming you shall all be replaced, but who is to say you have not been replaced already.

Master of Type-O and the obvios.

Soon my army oc clones and winged-monkies will rule the world but first, must .......

I may debate canon and RAW, but the games I run are highly house ruled. So I am not debating for how I play but about how the system works as written.
