Does anyone that play make use of familiar for their wizard? If so what rules do you use for those familiars?

I like familiars; I use the Through the Glass Darkly rules for improving familiars, and included those (and some other options) in the MoM manuscript, but don't recall if it got included in the first book.

Just the Familiar spell.
