Any interest in a Supplement to the Original Mechanoids?

Hey Kids!

Waaaay back when Alex M's house burnt down, there was a Rifter 0.2 fan project that produced a huge amount of submissions, including 40+ pages of my supplement for the Original Mechanoids Book 3. I love the setting and simplicity of the original system.

Is there any fan interest in seeing the original Mechanoids developed further? If so, speak up!

I would love to see the ORIGINAL mechanoids fleshed out more.
Fights with better prepared planets, races they allowed to live. That fight with Poseidon.
Adding sdc classes like supers, mages, better psionics.
Maybe gear about a loss?? A race of metal eating aliens immune to psionics and energy perhaps.

I voted no. The original game is too hard too play and too out of date. Add to that PB being so far behind in books for current lines, that would make this too much of an indulgence.

Now, if people were to do some Rifter articles for this I would be all over that.

Instead of Rifter articles, I was considering the idea of pitching a PDF/POD only product to promote sales of Mechanoids.

PDF on Drivethru would be a great way to go for this. It would also help gage interest in a new Mechanoids line.

I play sdc. Mechanoids trilogy fits right in actually. Since most of their weapons are laser or plasma. Makes impervious to fire and heat a heavy hitter ability.
Still mach one body blocks from a wasp will take you down quick.

Absolutely. I've pulled goodies from Heroes Unlimited, Nightbane, and Palladium Fantasy into Mechanoids.

Agreed. I'd like to see PB offer POD/PDF for their OOP titles.

From what I've seen Nightbane are kinda the bigboys on the sdc block.
I've never played nightbane but might pick up the books anyway.

They are kind of tough, that is why I reduce their strength and limit the number of talents when I add them to my Heroes Unlimited games. For mechanoids though, you can just throw more numbers at them and Nightbane are really close in browlers, very few have powers with significant damage beyond 500 feet so mechanoids still have major range advantage.

Just our of curiosity, what kind of stuff is in that 40 pages? Did you update the mechanoids and existing aliens or just add new races and tech?

The 40+ pages for the Rifter 0.2 was focused on helping GMs launch a Book III: Homeworld campaign.

If you're not familiar with Book III of Mechanoids - here's the scoop. Something happened to the Mechanoids and now looters have come to their Homeworld. You are contract scavengers trying to unearth and understand Mechanoid tech on a world with tremendous, and perhaps unknown, danger.

My article was twofold - a sample Basecamp for PCs to make introducing the game easy for the GM and a dozen or so fleshed out adventure seeds so GMs could jump right in and easily customize the adventures to their own campaigns. I also introduced some new equipment and a new and very alien NPC race.

Sounds cool. I like adventure ideas and a base camp with layout and some NPCs would be cool to see.

I like this alien NPC race you mentioned too. I am hoping they are mechanoid allies.

Hope we see this in one form or another in the near future.

They easily could be Mechanoid allies because they are so inhuman, but what their main role is in Homeworld is they hunt the Bug allies of the Mechanoids. While Homeworld has rare Mechanoids, usually deep within heavily defended complexes, the place is crawling with nasty sentient techno-bugs. The new race are sentient adrenalin junkie plants who live to hunt bugs and thus they've been imported by the humans as allies.

If I expand the article for a PDF/POD, then I will be adding in a very strange Mechanoid ally I've used before. They are all sorts of trouble. Of course, in Homeworld, you have lots of problems beyond the Mechanoids due to interstellar political issues being played out in proxy wars on the planet.

Dragons and Gods is SDC :) Sure there's conversion notes, but Nightbane has those too.

Also chi powers in N&SS can eventually wreck nightbane.

Yes, I like this idea.

I'm just gonna say, to the person who's about to lock the thread, that you might as well lock every thread in this section now since they'll all fall under that stupid rule.

Oh, and to the OP, I originally voted no pretty much for the same reasons that Warshield73 did.
