Probably only got enough money available to get the core book and one sourcebook. Which book would you recommend i start with?

They're all good - really depends on what you want to do..

Century Station and Gramercy Island are great sourcebooks for settings, and have a buttload of new characters to use. Aliens Unlimited is great if you plan on venturing "out-there". Mutant Underground is.. meh. Villains Unlimited provides alot of new baddies, as well as some interesting organizations.. Armageddon Unlimited is fantastic, but you might want to leave that one for a while, unless you wish to start your characters off fast and furious fighting the Minion War..

Then there are all of the Powers Unlimited Books. #1 and #3 are essentially a collection of new powers only, but #2 also has new character concepts (OCC's essentially), expanding on the Super Soldier, Eugenics, Immortals, Imbued Heroes, Gestalts etc. with a few new powers thrown in for good measure. You really couldn't go wrong with any of them IMHO..

A the very least, if you are going to be a player, I'd recommend getting HU, PU1, PU2, and PU3. That will give you the most bang for creating characters. If you are going to be a GM, that's a different story. I'd still recommend the above 4 books, but as for what other ones you get....well, that depends on the campaign you're running.

I would say you want NPC's so VU (NPC's and organizations) or Grammercy Island (NPCs and a setting)

I would buy PU 1 & 3 next.

Then any.

If you want a powers book to suplement the main book, then PU1(powers) or PU2(new Power cats).

If you want a setting resorce, then Century Station or the HUGMG.

sidenote:
There is a new novel that came out this month that is based in a world that has has meta-humans since WWII.

More than any other Palladium setting, I've found that HU2 doesn't need anything more than the main book. However, if you don't want to do the work of developing a setting then Century Station will be your best bet (though be warned that some of the NPCs are a bit... much). If you don't need setting info, go with PU 1, 2, & 3 for increased superpower options.

I'd also recommend things like the Compendium of (not so) Contemporary Weapons and maybe even Beyond the Supernatural, Ninjas & Superspies, & After the Bomb for additional utility.

It really depends on the setting you are trying to play in.

I definitely recommend the AU Galaxy Guide if you are going to play tech characters, as it greatly expands on both Robotics and Bionics categories.

If you are GM'ing I'd say GM's guide

If you want setting I'd say Century Station

If you want additional Player options I'd say any of the Powers Unlimited books

If you want Weapons then I'd say Compendium of Modern Weapons

Beyond that anything and everything can be useful.

Sidenote - They need a Compendium of Modern Weapons Volume 2.
I am very opinionated. Yes I rub people the wrong way but at the end of the day I just enjoy good hard discussion and will gladly walk away agreeing to not agree :D

I guess it depends on your budget. But I have managed to collect practically every book Palladium has that is compatible with SDC short of some of the Palladium Fantasy books and the Nightbane stuff and I have almost no money to speak of most of the time.

Contemporary Weapons are still valid, what we need is a Compedium of Advanced Weapons.

Actually they need a Volume 2 so that they can have updated and additional Armoured Vehicles and Tanks along with up to date infantry weapons etc. :D

Villains Unlimited would be good to get if you're going to need some villains. Both Gramercy Island and Century Station are wonderful. Mutant Underground is another favorite of mine. For space opera ideas, Aliens Unlimited, the Aliens Unlimited Galaxy Guide, and Skraypers would be good to get. Other essentials: the three Powers Unlimited books and the HU GM's Guide.
