Works for me. Ghost Hunters seem pretty protective by nature. This one just takes keeping the Boogeyman away a little more seriously than most.

A cynical flim-flam man who knows it's all bunk - but has debunked enough "real" ones to know how to play the game and pretend to be one.

Another Ghostbusters reference...remember at the beginning of the second movie, when Peter had the talk show about psychics & the paranormal? He knew most of 'em were frauds, and had seen it all. You could also make this character a Phil Plait-esque debunker, tearing apart "junk science". Of course, since he'll be wrong some of the time but never admit it, it'll be more fun. :D

This character filters through the BS artists out there to find the ones with real psychic talent and recruit them, all the while maintaining his cover as a debunker.

BeetleNightbanePanzer wrote:got one last one... Sensitive/hitman... cause a hitman with empathy is gonna have some serious issues... "oh my god, I can FEEL them dying!"

this one's not nearly so counter-intuitive, but what with all the talk of hitmen, I feel it deserves mention... Medium/hitman with one of his victims as his Spirit Guide!

Actually, I can see in this case the sensitive gets a thrill of feelign the death and is probably a psychopath.

Here are several that come to mind...

1. Street mime / Healer ("I think he wants you to put the leaf in your brew, either that or something about being lost in New Haven...")
2. Mechanic / Parapsychologist (the "ghost in the machine")
3. Diner Slop Cook / Negapsychic (there's just no "magic" in the food)

Most likely working in a fire tower somewhere. Or doing controlled burns. That one actually works. I could see a Fire Walker being the outdoorsy type.

A Psychic Sensitive who works for the IRS...

As with the Senstitive hitman, probably some kind of psychopath who enjoys feeling other people's pain. :D That, or the old "I don't know how I ended up with this gift!"

A "Natural/Genius" who works a register....

Because they're lazy, arrogant, and/or overconfident, and end up not using their ability to the fullest, and so working a register is the only job they can get. Or they're a misunderstood genius (remember, Einstein once worked as a patent clerk), or waiting to be discovered (Langston Hughes worked as a busboy, and was discovered when he slipped some poems onto a critic's plate).

Y'know, this thread hasn't really so much come up with *bad* combinations, as just some completely unique character concepts (in trying to rationalize/explain "bad" concepts). Random-rolling this kind of stuff could be fun. :D
