just sloppy science.

change what you will.

personally, i figure there should be a time limit, as water sucked into the vents would tend to screw up the systems over time. and all air near bodies of water is really humid, and then you also have spray to worry about. (the SC hovercyc's being directed jet hover, not the airskirt we have.)

They do the same thing in Macross II with the Monster's hover capabilities. That is like saying that a helecopter looses altitued when it travels over water (btw helicopters to exert force on the ground under them. Yes I know that the blades of a helo are more like a wing than a fan creating lift on themselves by spinning through the air, but they still exert force on the ground. A better anology would be a harrier though since it uses ducted thrust, it doesn't loose altitude when moving over water.

well it's not like it works from the reation with the ground so I go with sloppy science. they should work fine on water with no limit.

and if they can work in the rain they can work with spray.

the problem in back to the future is you needed a motivating force. marty only had his foot as a padle, he probably could have hovered there all week.

Robotech Hover Devices should be based off Recovred Anti-grav devices recovred from Zent Technology. they should opperate Fine over water.

I dont really remmeber any of the Hover cycles showing Large air intakes or fan devices. but i could eb mistaken

Please refresh my memory... is it really shown in the anime that those hover stuff don't work over water?

(I'll check if there are rules restriction on that in the books when I feel like, but don't think I'll need pointers to find the relevant sections)

Sloppy science.

If it's thruster driven it should woork (there are three aparent thrusters, but no intakes).

If it's AG driven it should work.

If it's magnetic levetation, it probably won't.

Thruster is most likely, because it's workable now. AG is next most likely, because of the technology usd to build SDF-1's artificial gravity field is similar.
