"Men at Arms"?
A question with important implications has come up in our local Fantasy game: do Mariners, Sailors, and Pirates count as being "Men at Arms" OCC's?

If that doesn't prompt you to buy it, I don't know what else I can say.

Re: "Men at Arms"?
Nope. That is why you have marines on a ship.

Petrified wood just because we could.

I'd be inclined to say Yes for Pirates, no for Mariners or Sailors... but that's a kneejerk without looking at the book.

The Sailor and Pirate both say they are men-at-arms in their respective descriptions (the pirate even specifically says it is a men-at-arms O.C.C.). Mariner I'm not so sure. The description leans more towards an 'Optional' O.C.C. I think. But I wouldn't argue if most people wanted to lump them in the same category as the sailor. Hope that helps!

Yes all three are Men at Arms. Just looking at them, they are soldier types, not entertainers, occupational, or
clergy/mage/scholar types. They all can wear various types of armor and use almost any type of weapon.

Yeah, I was thinking they were under the Scholars and Adventurers classes.

Re: "Men at Arms"?
So... not only does this resolve how much SDC these character classes get to begin with (which is an important issue)... it also confirms my suspicions that most of the giant races are capable of constructing and sailing sea-worthy vessels (which is what I really wanted to know).

Re: "Men at Arms"?
They definitely make waterborne craft
Where a few Olrigan soldiers used to wade through the muck along the river, keeping watch, now 8-10 man groups patrol the river on big, low rowboats or flatbed barges.
+10% to Carpentry and Boat Building is a rahu man bonus

Tossing in my 2% of a dollar... Maybe.
Seriously, though, both the Sailor and Pirate OCC's both state they are MoA in the first sentence of the first paragraph.
Given that the Mariner OCC states they are Ship's Officers (whether "stallions" or academy grads), I'd say they would also be so.
So, feel free to use the extra 2 dice when rolling for SDC!

and chasing down that demon blackship is one of the most feared ships in the palladium world, its a gnome heavy battleship, at 37 ft long, with 100 sets of oars (gnomish size) and 4 catapults (gnomish size) and 6 ballista (gnomish) this ship can certainly dish out the punishment. 200 hardcore Gnomish marines standby to defend their ship while 30 gnomish warlocks destroy the enemy.
Re: "Men at Arms"?
Deploy the Gnomish Marines VIA the catapults.
