Which Element is Your Favorite?

Unread post by Hotrod »

If/when playing a warlock, which is your favorite element, and why?

Also, since I'm a nerd, please post your favorite real element, and why you like it so much.

Although some of the other elements have some nifty tricks, I have to say that my favorite is Air, since it has a great range of crowd control options from level 1 with Cloud of Slumber and Cloud of Steam, very useful pets (Phantom also comes with 100 PPE and all 1-4 air spells, a nice way of covering your bases and getting 100 PPE worth of low spells with a 30 PPE summoning), the single best spell for sailing the seas (Atmospheric manipulation), and a guaranteed-hit damage spell that's very difficult to trace (call lightning). Oh, they also get a low-PPE resurrection at level 5.

My favorite real life element: Ag all the way! Silver's such a great element. It's the world's best conductor, it's a great antimicrobial, and it looks pretty. It's even awesome in fantasy.

But in real life, Fire is a chemical reaction, not an element... ah, nevermind. Like I said, I'm a nerd.

I assumed you were referring to mystical or sacred elements in either instance.

Favorite real world element?

Water. I like beaches, and if I had a spell to surf around everywhere like Ride the Waves? Totally awesome dude.

Need some ice for that drink? No problem. Need some rain for your town/farm, got that covered too. Plus if you fog to summon when ever you need to sneak around, or get your skin some moisture. Not to mention you can like, put out fires and heal burns. Man, the Water warlock is what you want, adventuring or having a beach party in summer. 8) Oooooooooh!

No one expects the Spanish Inquisition!

Air- At least in my game, for, as Hotrod said, nothing beats Air while on the Seas, and my group uses a boat to get most places.
Fire is a close second....

I tend towards Earth Warlocks, but I'll say my least favorite is probably water.

I have always liked Air and Fire. Especially since there are so many spells out there that deal with air and fire (yah they aren't warlock spells, some GMs are more flexible than others). And the spells that they have are quite nice.
The rules are not a bludgeon with which to hammer a character into a game. They are a guide to how a group of friends can get together to weave a collective story that entertains everyone involved. We forget that at our peril.

I like Air for combat.

I like Earth for everything else.

In real life, probably Aluminum or Oxygen.

I don't care about canon answers. I'm interested in good, well-reasoned answers and, perhaps, a short discussion of how that answer is supported or contradicted by canon.

If I don't provide a book and page number, then don't assume that I'm describing canon. I'll tell you if I'm describing canon.

If we're going down the path of scariest elements, Plutonium fits the bill for me. Lithium is good for batteries.

Air and Earth!

Earth isn't that great in the lower levels but it comes into its full power later on. Air is great at all levels and has many uses.

Most fun combo in the game, plus it is fun running around with hundreds of animated / breath of life creatures that can stomp a mud hole in most NPCs.

Favorite Spells (Air):
Cloud of Slumber - (Just an all around great take a large number of enemies down spell)
Cloud of Steam (Can make a escape easy or terrorize an enemy with major negatives)
Silence - (Good for keeping stealth as well as taking away spell casting abilities from wizards)
Northwind (Freeze an enemy)
Darkness - (Can I say stealth again, really good with silence combo)
Wind Rush - (Completely disable an enemy and makes a good distraction)
Ball Lightning - (Both an offensive and defensive weapon that lasts a long time on the field of battle)
Phantom Footman / Phantom (Good for both muscle and spells)
Breath of Life (Save a party members life and bring to life all sorts of animated creatures)
Electro-Magnetism (Completely takes down an enemies weapons and armor / Combo with River of Lava for a Massacre)
Snow Storm - (Stop an attacking for killer wiht Northwind)
Atmosheric Manupulation - (All around great spells. Using northwind/snow storm/AM combo tempatures can get into death range.)
Tornado - (When you have to destroy everything)
Wind Blast - Why not?
Creature of the Wind - (Can you say superhero)

Favorite Spells (Earth):
Chameleon (Stealth is your friend. Works against creatures that can see the invisible, even better with Silence and Darkness combo)
Identify Minerals (Just really good to have for a treasure hunter)
Create Dirt or Clay (Supply of materials for building army)
Wall of Clay - (Stop your enemies or crush them either way)
Dig - (Great of making a temporary home or breaking through dungeons or other fortifications.
Locate Minerals - (at this spell to the Dig and Identifiy Minerals combo and go mining.)
Mend Stone - (Need to heal your army and eventually yourself of damage)
Wall of Thorns - (Stops and enemy and is a monster if you combine it with Wind Rush)
Clay to Stone - (Got to make that material harder for stone warriors in your army)
Travel Through Earth - (Great for getting around all kinds of obstacles)
Clay or Stone to Iron - (Metal Army now has some serious weapons and SDC with this one)
Mend Metal - (Again heal minions and self)
River of Lava - (When you need to completely destory an attacking force. Combine with Wind Rush or Electro-Mag and you have a killer spell)
Sculpt & Animate Clay - (Best earth spell around! Can you say personal army!)
Earthquake - (Why not you are a unstoppable force of nature)
Transference of Essence & Intellect - (Lastly get rid of that all frail body and transfer into a living robot. Now Mend Stone and Metal heal you!)
