N&S Organizations

No, I'm not talking about the ones in N&S. What other types of organizations do you use for your games? Do you use real world espionage agenices, military special operations units, mercenary companies or do you use made up agencies in the style if the classics (U.N.C.L.E., SPECTER, TAROT, THRUSH, IMF, etc)? What about homebrewed organizations? And then of course, what about martial art organizations, do your games even have any?

I came up with a group more for my HUII game, but using many concepts enhanced by N&SS.
The group is called the Tao of the Fist: They are a martial arts school, of sorts, who only accept advanced students with at least one mystic martial art ability, or with a super ability with a martial arts orientation (Power Channeling, for example).
They seek out ancient texts and tomes, and seek to purify the arts by eliminating pretenders, fakers, and glorified strongmen like the Physical Training character.
They will work with Oni and other supernatural creatures, as well as Chi mages and seekers of Immortality (especially if they can become immortal themselves).

I typically base things on real-world orgs. One of my old-time favs has been the "Manpower International" Merc group, based loosely on "Executive Operations", the merc company that single-handedly ended the genocide in Siera Leone (before the frelling UN got involved and re-FUBARed the place).

I've "created" rules for CIA, KGB, GRU, FBI, Mosad, MI-6, etc., as well as totally invented groups like the Space Intelligence Agency (SIA) for the BTiLC campaign.

For my upcomming Organized Crime article (in work; the one that will feature the revised Triad Assassin rules) I made Org rules for the "typical" organized crime syndicate and street gang.

How do you work the Yakuza in? A friend started a game based in Japan, and we were thinking (due to my character's background) of working that in.

IRA and The Troubles question.

Unread post by Puroresu »

Has anyone ever tried a campaign based on the real-life Troubles in Northern Ireland involving the IRA? I'm not talking about Catholics versus Protestants but rather the Unionists versus the Republicans.

I suppose you could create some very interesting superheroes and supervillains for a Heroes Unlimited campaign. Someone could try to break Brittania out of Gramercy Island, for example, and bring her to Northern Ireland for a Unionist scheme.

Generally, I only use fictional organizations. It requires a lot of effort to accurately depict a real organization, and in many cases accurate information simply isn't available for how that organization operates. I do try to use certain elements from various real-world organizations though, since there are a lot of interesting real-world techniques and tactics that can be incorporated into a fictional group to make it seem more realistic and believable.

I use real life organizations in my game.
"Your Grace," she said, "I have only one question. Do you wish this man crippled or dead?"

"My Lady," the protector of Grayson told his Champion, "I do not wish him to leave this chamber alive."

"As you will it, your Grace."

Nice long list Kuseru Satsujin!

But you forgot DSS (Diplomatic Security Service) whose agents are responsible for overseeing the Security of U.S. Embassies, under the title of Regional Security Officer (RSO) and have operational command of a U.S. Embassies MSG (Marine Security Guard) Detachment.

Also while you did list US Marine Corps MSPF Maritime Special Purpose Force you didn't list the MEU (SOC) the unit would be part of.
Some people spend an entire lifetime wondering if they made a difference in the world. But, the Marines don't have that problem".

That's becayse I've worked with MEU (SOC) before and I didn't find them all that "special." Though it does bring up a funny anecdote about a joint operation involving Navy SEALs who, it seems, couldn't find their target due to some navigation errors.
