In another part of the hive, secluded to any other of the evolved Invid we find the one in question that set the course of the story.*
The chamber had little light. It would have been completely dark if it wasn’t for the computer monitors. Clustered together they illuminated the figure right before them. Blankets have enwrapped the tiny figure as if she was in a cocoon. All around the mass of soft fabric discarded boxes and cans were strewn around in the immediate glow. Petite-Cola shined in the light, and snack food was everywhere. Computers cobbled together from old and new parts gave a soft hum from the cooling fans. Wires trailed everywhere in connection to other self-built machines, most notably some leading straight into the cocoon.
There was a slit in the bundle, as if a crack in the fortress of comfort. Duel round glass reflected the light of information. Pass the reflection emerald eyes just stare at the monitors. She was not paying attention to the screens, she stopped some time ago. Her mind was in a different place. Lost in thought of the pass three weeks. Regret being the most prevalent.
She was too deep to notice that someone entered the chamber. The clicking of armored feet still didn’t stir her. Nor did its overshadowing presence cause any disturbance. Its read eye looked her over trying to assess its next move. He then came to conclusion that he must get her attention through physical means. He reached out with his hand and lightly patted the top of the bundle.
As if pulled through the ocean back to land she began to become aware of everything. She felt the familiar mind of the one behind her. The cocoon twisted as she looked at her friend.
Otaku Princess: *smile* “Hello Ray.”
The Invid before her was a soldier. Tall and overshadowing like all the others, but unlike them he was less intimidating. There were no weapons on him, they were torn out a long time. Claws had been dumbed down. Different colors splotched over the old gray armor. A name was carved into his right arm. “Ray”. He did it himself. In his left he held a package wrapped in brown and strung with twine.
Ray: “Another package was dropped for you.”
The princess struggled to get her arms out but managed to get one arm out through a slit. The soldier carefully handed to her. She knew it was about that time. Every week a package would arrive for her. All having a crudely written out Onii-san on it.
The smile grew bigger. All the other siblings looked down on her, but one has been nice to her. He or she hadn’t revealed themselves as the one who sends her these gifts, but she can feel the love from each one she gets.
Ray: “I also have a message.”
Princess: “Oh?”
Ray: “The Regess would like to have an audience with you.”
The princess retracted her arm in the bundle. It sank lower as she tries to make herself small.
Ray: “She will talk to you even if you do that.”
A muffled voice can be heard “I don’t want to.”
Ray: “Why do you not want to talk to mother?”
Princess: “… Because she’ll want to talk about “that”.”
Ray pondered for a minute. “Would you be more comfortable if I speak for her?”
Princess: “I don’t think it matters. It’s going to be the same thing.”
Ray was starting to feel that emotion again. Sadness they called it. Thinking for a moment to try to understand. Was he sad for himself, no? Was he sad for her, yes that was it.
Ray: “Would you like to talk to her now? Or should I tell her to give you more time?”
Princess: “….Yes.”
Ray: *confused* “Yes to which inquiry?”
Princess: “The first one Ray.”
Ray: *bows* “I shall summon her then.”
The Soldier made his way out through the chamber opening. Once it had closed behind his stoic appetence soon loosened and slumped. Sadness had always been a physically draining emotion on him. Ray thought he couldn’t keep his appearance or his mind up in front of his friend.
Friend.
An odd concept for him. She is a higher form of Invid. The majority of the Evolved looked down at their lower brothers and sisters. Viewed as no more than drones in an insect hive. Wrong analogy Ray thought but still the same.
Making his way to the Regess’s chamber he passed all manner of different Invid. As always he notices the lower ones avoiding him. The others of higher rank always had their eye on him wherever he went in the hive. He can feel in his mind their indifference, but deep down there was something else.
Ray thought as he walked. Fear? Anger? Hostility? Or do they not want to feel the way I feel?
As his mind pondered his body kept its pace to the chamber. With both body and mind separate nether one was aware of the figure before it, they too both as oblivious as the other.
*Whomp*
Ray’s heavy body fell backwards and made a resounding thud. This snapped him back to the outside world. There was that other feeling. “Pain.”
The other hadn’t budged. She still stood taller now to him, now aware of her surroundings and the one before her.
Regess: “Ray, I did not expect you walking back to my quarters.”
There was another emotion that always struck when he is close to her, fear. But he recomposed himself and stuffed it down in his mind away from her.
Ray: “I came to report about her.”
Regess: “And is she willing to talk to me now?”
Ray: “Reluctantly.”
The Regess gave a confused look.
**** Ray thought.
Regess: “Never the less I shall talk to her. As for you I have another assignment.”
Ray perked up a bit. Assignments from the Regess always had him go away from the hive and by himself. He needed to get out, the others were staring him down more than usual.
Regess: “I need you to go to the nearest human establishment and obtain this thing called “coffee”.”
Ray: “…. To a human establishment?”
Regess: “Yes.”
Ray can feel a synapse blow out. “Why?”
Regess: “I need someone to do it and as of right now all the evolved have not been answering my calls. You are the only one in this hive that can accomplish this.”
Ray can feel another blowing out.
Regess: *sigh* “You will have a better chance than the others because of the fact that you can communicate better with the humans than the others. That and it will give you experience for future missions. Now go my child.”
Ray only gave a nod and trotted off.
Regess: *thinking* “It pains me now that Ray is my new experiment. But studying him will help me better grasp at the unforeseen changes with in both him and the rest of my children. But for now I must deal with the next pressing matter.”

Chronicler wrote:In another part of the hive, secluded to any other of the evolved Invid we find the one in question that set the course of the story.*

Ambassador L'Ron:(watching a human with a narrow container in place of his head running down the hall, barely ahead of another swinging a baseball bat, as a human female brings up the rear, yelling at both of them to stop)
"Remind me again why we're allied to these 'humans'?"
Ambassador Bela has no answer.

No, she sent in her lawyer-brains.
No wonder the Regent was in such a foul mood.
