That and the acid reflux people get from it makes Xenomorph blood look like tepid water.

Given that all the Ice Guards see(for the most part) is an endless sea of white, bright colors might attract the dumb bunnies of the Ice Guards while the more intelligent(long term survivors)know that bright colors equals DANGER!

Starts the moment they get off the transport. Betting pool starts with whether they make it to the airfield reception area(or any other structure around the airfield). .

It's worse if you're a "special" transfer from another unit or if you were stupid enough to volunteer.

Anyone volunteering for duty in the Ice Guard is one for four types: stupid, naïve, suicidal or a masochist.

Well if that's the case then his Ex must have been a cast iron ***** for him to willingly volunteer for duty in the Ice Guard which would improve his odds of surviving in the Ice Guard.

Or the guy's a prime bastard who knows in advance the fatality figures for a unit like Ice Guard and means to lure his ex after him, or bring his soon-to-be-ex out with him, figuring he'll outlive her(or him)...
Irony typically strikes such plots, if the ex survives and becomes the plotter's superior, and/or otherwise outlives the would-be plotter of murder-by-environment.

...Given we've established that the Ice Guard are mutating, it wouldn't surprise me if more and more members acquire resistance, if not outright immunity, to ingested toxins in their diet...if only to thumb their noses at the Franklin Expedition, which may have been suffering lead poisoning from the solder in their canned pemmican rations.

Twitch: "Yeah! Now, if I could just finish wiring the remote into the Arecibo antenna, I won't have to wait for the timer to go off..."

Jones: " Don't you thinking you are *blowing* this out of proportion? "

"No."
"Okay. Then if you're okay with it, nothing more be said of it. "

Random Characters:
*Tukata 'Snow Blossom' Pramoj Miles----"Shotgun Harry' Miles' 'mail order bride' who was literally shipped to him. Has prior history with Shotgun in that she was the callgirl that MIles got in a fight over with a local Thai mobster in the incident that got MIles sent to Ice Guard. However, not satisfied with his brother's (a UEDF regional commander) vow that the obnoxious(and facebreaking) Miles had been 'disappeared' for the affront of breaking a good number of the twerp's bones and shooting up his business establishment, the crimelord tracked down Miles's forwarding address(a minor breach of UEDF security in itself) and got his brother to send the guy a 'token of his esteem' after taking the object of their little tiff on a quick and fatal tour of the flash-freezer of a Ranong factory fishing ship(one of the criminal's other enterprises). A few bribes to look the other way and a box of 'frozen fish' addressed to Harry MIles was put in one of the supply drops to Ice Guard.
Fortunately, the race-horse-in-the-bed cruelty of the 'gift' was negated by the fact that the body was sent to a place that excelled in reviving and repairing cryogenically-preserved bodies, and it was a simple matter for Ice Guard's deep-frostbite response team to revive the girl, albeit with some swisscheesed memories. With no means at the time of sending her back, and no hard evidence of who did it(but some good ideas as to), the IG had to keep her on base., Harry, feeling responsible, proposed to the young lady after she had acculturated into the IG base society after a year or so(and could be proven to be reasonably sane after such experience), and the two were soon happily married. Still are, and are sane together, though Mrs. Miles sometimes has episodes of wondering if she's Thai, Eskimo, or Denisovan.
(Though IG couldn't interest anybody on the outside in following up on the criminal aspects of the case, the Thai mobster responsible several years later came to a curious end, found packed in a consignment of frozen fish fillets, having apparently fallen into the processing equipment. Though ruled an accident, both Harry MIles and Lt. Darklith were in a curiously festive mood around the same time. When asked about their good spirits, all they would say was that 'revenge is a dish best served cold' and 'justice is cold, but fair.")

I'm suddenly envisioning a "WIVING THE ICEGUARD campaign. Starting with the girls of the E.B.S.I.S. Penal battalion...

Lt. Darklith: "I sware to god sir, they're all defectors!"

Actually, the girls of IceGuard prefer the DIRECT approach.

"Some of us prefer to use tranquilizer darts."

"Dean, you've got something like a dozen darts sticking out of your backside..."
"I know. I'm REALLY glad I've wearing layers, and a suit of anti-mosquito mesh* as well."

*Similar to Neptunic, the anti-shark chainmail worn by some scubadivers. IceGuard had to manufacture the stuff after the Great Mosquito Horde of '21.

And thus Derek Zoolander was prevented from contaminating the Ice Guard gene pool....
