crunch, crunch-
"Ladies and Gentlemen, and those who we're still trying to figure out WHAT you are....amongst the many things that can get you killed out here are the abrupt drops in temperature. Even ignoring transposition into the Cryogenian era or transplutonian space, temperatures can drop incredibly fast and low around here."
crunch, crunch-
"Such changes in temperature can catch you offguard, unprepared, and easily kill you. Be aware at all times and be ready to respond accordingly."

"Yes, a question?"
crunch, crunch-
"'How fast and how cold?' Glad you asked that, because here comes the perfect demonstration into sight right now."
crunch, crunch-CRUNCH, CRUNCH
"That, people, used to be a small, but deep pond near the base. It was paved over by thin ice this morning when that MAC II fell through the crust and all the way the bottom. Then we got hit with a sudden cold snap around ten AM while we were still trying to recover the destroid. As you can see the pond is completely frozen solid now, and we found it simply easier to walk the destroid...and the pond...back to base, over ground frozen solid enough to hold all that weight. THAT's how fast and how cold."
"    "
(POV pulls back to show a flat-topped iceberg looking over IG Base, with two MAC legs sticking out of the bottom of it.)

I'm not sure Nova even KNOWS Ice Guard exists. Ice Guard was an old RDF/UEDF set-up...The ASC might have inherited it along with other secrets, but hard-core timeline? By the time Nova became a junior officer in the GMP, I doubt her security clearance would have cleared her for knowledge of the 'pariah division', although she certainly could have heard various rumors of people 'exiled to Siberia', but that could mean any of a number of cold and miserable weather stations and arctic outposts(or just generally boring/low-promotion opportunity assignments) spread across Canada, Greenland, and northern Europe. The Time Skip occurs/starts several years before the 2nd Robotech War, further decreasing any chance she'd have to deal with any serious mention of anything like Ice Guard.
Blooper Nova knows of ANTARCTIC gulags, or at least one facility for the criminally psychotic(from personal experience), but likely not Ice Guard.
Though just-past-jailbait and academy-foolish Nova Satori might still have had some cheesecake photos taken, and copies of those youthful indiscretions might have wound up with some of the last few pre-Skip exilees to Ice Guard.

or the ASC just reclassified the iceguard as an Arctic Gulag, and when she was filing paperwork on the stalker-dude she made a typo..

Newbie: "What you mean?"
IGT: "You likely got a nice ceremony, pre-fab gravestone, and a form letter sent to your family with a hint that it couldn't be open casket. Oh, and the GMP's probably got orders to shoot anybody claiming to be you. So no worries; the feeling goes away after awhile....we replace it with the sharp wide-awake alert that something's about to pounce on you anyways...well, those of us who SURVIVE develop that feeling."

A group of IceGuard ground vehicles moved through the snowy valley. Suddenly, a squad of Stasi TSFs rush out in ambush and blast the convoy to wreakage. Sticking out of one of the burning vehicles, a hand still clutching the bikini photo of Nova.

They also engage filters on their helmet optics against possible embedded hypnotic/subliminal patterning worked into the photo(okay...that's bordering on PARANOID Marines).

(given that 40K space marines are functionally Eunuchs, not sure they'd feel anything to be honest. if they were any other chapter i'd expect Zentraedi like comments about how that armor doesn't cover nearly enough of the vital spots. well, except maybe from the scouts, who'd be more able to remember what life was like before the chapter took them in and changed them physically and mentally.)

And one of the running gags in Turn Signals On a Land Raider features the scouts being left on the gaming store table and being discovered by the dominatrix models.
When the scouts link back up with the Pointy Sticks for competition play, they subsequently try to get killed off as quickly as possible so they can spend the rest of the session sleeping.

I believe it's been established that at one point Minmei was actually SENT to Ice Guard as part of celebrity rehab, and she knows Major Jones(Blooper thread, when she was hunting T.R. Edwards and Kyle 'to the ends of the Earth' and stumbled across Tolliver and she asked how Jones was doing).
She's possibly the only person of any real mention who's actually RETURNED from Ice Guard, and possibly one of the few people who actually, pre-timeskip, LIKED her stay up there, since it was quiet, away from the media(who didn't know where the hell IG was), was short on temptations, her fans weren't grabby(the worst was sedated most of the time) and even her critics were not impolite about it. So a stay at Ice Guard's a welcome chance to 'chill out' and relax(which is saying a lot about Minmei's hectic normal lifestyle if being trapped by sub-zero temperatures, mutant animals, and the company of penal legion rejects is actually considered to be a VACATION).

Ice Guard Trooper: "Well, another fantasy ruined."

OKay, maybe because sometimes harshing on Minmei feels like a hollow pleasure, like picking on somebody with a progressive brain disease, or criticizing the homecoming queen for getting attacked.
I tend to consider her not as 'somebody who got what was coming to her', but more of a social victim. Would she have been famous without the Zentraedi invasion? Maybe, maybe not. She might have been happier without the pressure of celebrity and the attention people desperate for 'normalcy' heaped on her. Or at least that's one take on it. The thing is, she's self-centered, but not a blatant bimbo or screaming attention-hog that some celebrities become/are. She's the waitress-girl next door who rose too fast under bad circumstances, and then burned out hard.

Would she appreciate Ice Guard? Given her circumstances, after watching a group of paparazzi stalking her get eaten because they ignored the warnings and tried to get an optimal camera stakeout position(OUTSIDE the security perimeter), she might...well, warm to the dubious security the IG offers her.
It might become her version of the Fortress of Solitude.

Superman: :-? "Wait...who are you people again?"
Tolliver:  "Possibly suffering from snow madness."

Lex, you poor stupid bastard...once the initial camouflage and resistance convince you that you've hit the jackpot, the avalanche of psychotic that will land on you will make you realize you just made a SERIOUS and potentially fatal mistake.

Because Lex just might have enough Genre-Savvy to realize what being 'invited to dinner' might ALSO mean....

Ghomeshi: "I need to escape the press, it's a good thing I won that teleport watch off Lex."

He suddenly appears in the Hive.
