Missing NG products

Unread post by eliakon »

So, going through the NG1/NG2 books recently and I noticed that a lot of stuff is missing. The big example being that the Beachmaster is provided... but not AquaTech LE50.
In fact almost all of the knockoffs are missing (in the early books NG wasnt a world leader in making the best of the bleeding edge items and instead was a knock off powerhouse)

Has anyone ever made a list of all the various products that NG was listed as selling in the various books that could be used to 'fill out' the sales list?

because aqua-tech isn't an NG product?

WB7 lists manufacturers of the LEA-50 as "Triax, Iron Heart Armaments, Northern Gun (a recent addition to its line of knockoffs), Atlantis, and the black market", while the Orca-50 and orca-100 is "Triax, Atlantis, and the black market"
GMG actually lists the both suits from the aquatech brand as being made by Triax. (GMG pg 217-218)

so Aquatech stuff is Triax made, and NG only produces a knockoff of a single suit from the line. since the book does not reprint NG's knockoff line (which to be fair, would probably fill something a whole book on its own) it is not going to be present.

that said, it would have been nice if there was a section on NG's knockoffs, with some guidelines as to which other manufacturers NG tends to copy from.

The knockoffs though ARE NG lines.
Unless one is trying to pretend that if you walk into a NG showroom you wont find any of the vast array of things that NG knocks off...
...and even with out stats a simple listing of things that they have already knocked off would be helpful. Especially since it will be relevant if someone wants to try and take advantage of turning in something for reverse engineering!
And if they dont have lists of any of the knock offs... it begs the question of what else was left out...
For example, we have a huge array of 'generic' items in the books... are they NG products?
This sort of thing is of HUGE importance given that there are preferential prices and payment plans for NG gear, that some nations have limits on gear that include NG, that some of the Arena material is linked to NG gear and so on...
...as a simple example
With out doing the research a group looking for "some PA to use to hunt pirates" in a NG showroom would not know that they can buy the LEA-50 and will assume that only the inferior BeachMaster is avaliable.

the knock-off section could easily be as simple as a list that shows the normal thing's name/manufacturer, and the equivalent NG name.

with maybe a section indicating what differences there are per manufacturer (eg any wilk's knock-offs have -10% range and payload and +50% weight, -15% to range, payload, and MDC of any CS knockoffs, and so forth).
