Pregnancy + bio-wizardry = ?

Unread post by The ineffible GM »

I posted a while back about the consequences of M.O.M. implants on someone's ability to get pregnant in Rifts, and it led to some interesting discussion about the fertility implications for Crazy's and Juicers.

I'm curious to know what people think the effects might be of undergoing bio-wizardry modification/augmentation while already pregnant. It seems to me they could do all kinds of modifications to the patient/victim to promote, alter, or heighten fertility, but what about someone that was already pregnant when they underwent procedures?

Thoughts?

Unless the bio-wizard took steps to preserve the fetus, you'd likely have a spontaneous abortion for any large physical or systemic change. If someone wanted his freaky bio-borg background to be that bio-wizard experiments on his mom caused his current powers, I'd have no problem with that, especially if he named himself Caesar.

Palladium by and large avoids things like Pregnancy like the plague. It's going to be left open to the GM's.

That said any bio-wizardy implant etc.

I'm with Mark on that one. Likely a spontaneous abortion for any large or systemic change. People are unaware of how often women get pregnant and spontaniously abort before they even 'know' it, or in the first three months. It happens alot with OUT freaky bioborg stuff.

I agree, but also would never make it a thing unless it happened via player character's wishes, and I would have to question that player's judgement on that one. any kind of sex in a roleplaying session is like a mixed group of people suddenly force4d to watch a porn together. awkwaaaaaarrrrrrrd.

I would say the Splugorth have finer control over the consequences of their manipulations. It's a horrific process not because they can't get it to work just right, but because they like it being horrific. If they don't care about the fetus, or just want to add to the psychological suffering, they'll cause, or allow, a situation where the fetus dies. Or they could incorporate the fetus into the manipulation, and then you'll have your baby's head sticking out of where your belly button used to be, screaming at your enemies when you enter battle and projectile vomiting MD acid and/or plasma.

Well symbots and parasites may not transfer over. The text on the blind warrior woman not passing on bio-wizard conversations found in rifts atantis indicates that some of the changes are likely magical genetic engineering. However once the egg is released by a mother it is no longer being generated so any genetic changes after the egg was released would not be passed on the child.(the fetus was not the target of the magic, and the process places a great deal of stress on the parent so may be fatal to a unborn child.) The child would have to have been conceived after modification, and the modification could mean that the parent is incompatible with some one who is not and the child might not have the modified gene.

The Clones are coming you shall all be replaced, but who is to say you have not been replaced already.

Master of Type-O and the obvios.

Soon my army oc clones and winged-monkies will rule the world but first, must .......

I may debate canon and RAW, but the games I run are highly house ruled. So I am not debating for how I play but about how the system works as written.

I would advise you not to ask that some things can not be unseen.

It happens alot with OUT freaky bioborg stuff.

This makes me wonder: could people who sense PPE like Ley Line Walkers or Psi-Stalkers be aware of stuff like this because of the double PPE released at death? You seem to have more PPE the younger you are so a fetus might have even more PPE than a newborn!

Aaaaand this is why babies are often used in evil sacrificial rituals (along with virgins for some reason).

I always looked at the ppe of newborns as being actually rather low, and the ppe maxing out somewhere around puberty.

the rituals that involve the sacrifice of newborns/virgins, has more to do with corruption and destruction of innocence that raw power per say.

lets use the sacrifice of a newborn. as an example. one of the rituals I remember reading about gave the mage (who had to be the mother) immortality or eternal youth or something similar, but in order to get it, she had to first get pregnant, and carry the child for 9 months, and give birth, and essentially do all the normal mother bonding to the child stuff, and then reject it totally and kill her child, essentially all to prove just how dedicated to gaining power she was, and that NOTHING was more important to her than personal power.

Well, in one of the games wasn't it explained PPE can be burned off in the process of learning skills?
